Cadillac is making strides in their redesign efforts. The ATS is an optimistic view of the new passion Cadillac will be placing in their new cars. Thanks for the videos Motoman
I own a 2014 ATS 2.0 AWD and it is a better performer than my 92 Porsche Turbo. These are seriously great cars and I look forward to acquiring the Coupe. Thank you for the review...
***** Well, funny you say that, John . . . We are kick off our MotoMan #montereycarweek 2014 with just that - an in depth look at that #AlfaRomeo shop in this episode - but MUCH more and different footage. Check it out here: Classic Italian Cars with Cadillac Director of Exterior Design, Bob Boniface Check back for a new episode every day this week to celebrate #pebblebeachconcours
that ATS Coupe is as crisp and sleek looking as can be, and in terms of its driving dynamics, it can easily lock horns with what once used to be the inventor and owner of that segment (3 series sedan/coupe... the latter now ideotically named 4 series). so not bad for Cadillac's first attempt at gaining a foothold in that very competitive and crowded segment! now, to the question asked, "should Cadillac do a convertible", well, i will say, that Cadillac absolutely has to do a sports wagon , much like the previous gen. CTS, whether that will be an ATS-based sportswagon, or the larger CTS, can be up for debate. and of course i cannot wait for the V versions of the ATS. also Cadillac absolutely needs to bring something to celebrate its heritage and legacy, meaning something large and flamboyant, something like that '67 ElDorado, a large ultra luxo coupe/convertible ! something that is the very definition of automotive exuberance. now, with the upcoming flagship sedan (speculatively dubbed LTS) it does have the perfect platform for it, and with regard to the mindblowing concepts Cadillac has delighted us with in recent years (Sixteen,Ciel,El Miraj), the brand certainly has the right vision for it as well!
Liking your use of the English "Blagging It" about your mobile phone !!! Do they still do the two seater convertible to rival an SL ?, that was a good looking car !!! Nice Interludes with you and Bob looking at Classic Cars, Perhaps you and him should do a show un-earthing Barn Finds etc like on America Pickers, the new Mike & Frank for Auto-mobiles !!!
I would love to see GM build a CTS or an ATS Cadillac convertible. I've seen pictures of what I believe is a CTS convertible and it's very cool. If I hit the Lotto, I'd consider having mine made into one. Go for it!!
Who would have thought GM would make some of the best 2.0T engines out there, on par with BMW and VWAG. Cadillac could make a fine a Northstar 5.7TT with 145/liter of torque. 827 lb/ft would be smooth as silk!
Got caught out in the summer rain there with the Eldorado! Great video as always. I really enjoy your discourses with the manufacturer reps. I really gives insight into what they were thinking when building a car. ALSO, wireless charging should be in ALL highend cars, and should trickle down to entry level in the next few years.
Sadly, yes . . . Had planned on filming that car the following day but the owner needed to take it that night - great guy - we have some footage of him that we will put on facebook. Thanks for the kind words . . .
It seems that the wireless charging apparatus requires the phone to be hidden behind the dash while charging. I love the idea, but don't want the phone out of reach/sight. Wired charging allows for use while charging. I am very impressed by the 4 cylinder performance!
If done right, Cadillac should built the convertible as long the body rigidity and fun to drive factor is the same or better than the coupe. I say go for it!
Would be great if they offered a choice of hardtop for the younger buyer and a soft top for the older buyer. I'm 32 and after personally driving a 08 Saturn Sky for 4 years, I loved the noise the rain makes when it hits the soft top. But, I know that the younger buyer would prefer the hardtop. At least this is my observation
I kind of wish I was able to keep the sky, I remember a few years ago maybe 2005 or 06 at an auto show in Miami saw it. I thought to myself how cool is that? It turns out that was my first new car. After seeing the little thing which that car shared with a corvette I was hooked with GM. After those four great years with the sky, I bought a 2012 cruze, 2012 CTS and just the other month I got a 2014 CTS. It's safe to say I'm going to keep buying GM. I really enjoy the history lesson and the new Cadillac products you showed us. Keep it coming.
Eddy Lopez Same deal here . . . bought the car with 1,500 miles on it and kept her for about 2 years and only put about 4,000 miles on her. Sadly, had no place to put her when the show started up. I KNOW both you and I will be kicking ourselves when we see our respective cars at RM or Gooding Auctions in 20 years for big money . . .
I know!!! but this was my main transportation. Like I said before it was new with 25 miles on it and I ended up putting 84k in those 4 years. It still ran and looked like new. All of my friends were in shock when I sold it. Wish I could locate it and maybe buy it back if it's in good condition.
Gorgeous doesn't even describe how beautiful that 67 Eldorado is ! And Privately owned? Wow ! I was under the impression that Cadillac brought it from their own museum. The Alfa Romeo & the Classic car trips were a nice touch M! Glad to know the that the wireless-charging pad support both PMA & Qi standards ... Cadillac did the right thing here. Say M, What do you think of the new grille now you saw it in person ? I'm not a huge fan of the inserts & the whole 3d effect. now to Bob's question, sure why not? Here's but that depends ... - a 2+2 Convertible ? Then it should be a Cloth roof a tonneau cover ... nothing is uglier than an exposed folded roof *Cough*Mustang*Cough* & Metal Folding Roof looks really weird on 2+2 cars ... think BMW 4-Series Convertible or a Peugeot 307\308 CC or even worse Lexus SC430 ... Bad idea written all over it. - a 2 Seater ? a Metal Folding Roof Would be fine ... maybe even make the folding-process as cool as the XLR's. - T-Top? I doubt it, just stick a giant sun roof & call it a day. - Targa ? I know what you are thinking, but I doubt the 991 style would work here (Bean Counters won't allow it either)... beautiful car, saw a white one last week, but I digress ... unless they are gonna pull a Bentley & go Continental T on it ... it won't fit the design. As always M, Great Video.
Totally agree - *if* I had a vote, it would be for a folding cloth top or some sort of new fangled Targa - can you tell I have 991 Targa on the brain . . .
All the two door models need a convertible. And please make a full size coupé and convertible to knock the the mb SL out. Also the ats and the xts need v8 v models.
Sure they should. Before that though, I think they should remove the black plastic in the front bumper and grill and replace it with like a black or gray wire mesh.
Cadillac really need to bring back the traditional buttons & knobs as in other GM cars. This ATS would also be much more appealing if it has ventilated seats and modern-looking gauges. Until then, I'm not buying a Caddy.
Omg yes a t top ATS and convertible. Why didnt you the ats screams for it. You can take my car and do a concept for it i will let youi have the 2015 and would kill for t_tops
Man all of these kool vehicles including the ATS Coupe and not one 360 view of any of the cars!? We need a little less talking and better views and information regarding the cars.
Is there a BMW 3-series convertible? or a A4 convertible? or C-class convertible? Yes. So there should be an ATS convertible. If not now, for the next generation.
I'm morally opposed to making convertibles out of vehicles designed originally as coupes or sedan's. Part of this comes from the fact that I do not understand why someone would pay more money for a vehicle that is heavier, slower, and doesn't as well as its coupe or sedan counterpart. Instead, convertible lovers should stick to cars that were built from the ground up as a convertible like an MX5 or Z4.
unless you're taking a sawzall to a coupe pretty much every convertible you'd buy has the engineering for the convertible already baked into the design. A convertible is nice for every day. Dropping the top on a nice day makes otherwise boring drives a lot more pleasurable when you can't, or don't feel like taking advantage of the car's capabilities. The V-coupe is obviously for you, but I'm sure a lot of people would like to have a nice American 4 seat convertible with a bit more luxury than a mustang or camaro.
Actually, the *concept* is great - after all, it is kind of ripped off from tablets - and the latest version is indeed improved. That said, I have ALWAYS maintained since its release that it absolutely NEEDS a MUCH faster processor and redundant knobs to control common functions. If they made these changes, it would be a winner.
Try driving and using a tablet at the same time. Agree, in theory it's cool but so is Communism...but I digress. Replace CUE with Audi switches and knobs and you've got me, Cadillac.
MotoManTV My everyday driver car is a new CTS with the CUE system. With that said when I drive I use the steering wheel controls, which works awesome to control the radio and phone functions. I might leave the big screen on the a/c control just in case I need to make a climate adjustment. My point is most people that complain about the CUE system are the ones who don't have one. Yes it might be a little slow and it has restarted on me twice but it's not a deal breaker. If they were to put the similar system as the AUDI everyone would be writing how its a rip off.
Let's see...I'm a 35 year old board certified trauma surgeon that thoroughly test drove an ATS for a week prior to deciding on a competitor. Yeah, Reuben and Eddy really had me pegged as an ignorant, rigid has-been that still listens to AM radio and would never step foot in an ATS. Ha!

Absolutely yes! Make the convertible!!!!!

Cts coupe was gorgeous. Damn the 100 percent rearward visibility. They kinda went to passive from the c pillar back with this one.
Liking your use of the English "Blagging It" about your mobile phone !!!

This car is orgasmic.....:p
And yes, a convertible or removable roof panel like in the new corvette would be absolutely marvellous
Ats Convertible? HELL YESSS! This car screams for this treatment!
I would love to see GM build a CTS or an ATS Cadillac convertible. I've seen pictures of what I believe is a CTS convertible and it's very cool. If I hit the Lotto, I'd consider having mine made into one. Go for it!!
Hell yes we want an ATS convertible!

Folding soft top ATS Convertible?
Where do I place my pre-order?
yes
It seems that the wireless charging apparatus requires the phone to be hidden behind the dash while charging. I love the idea, but don't want the phone out of reach/sight. Wired charging allows for use while charging. I am very impressed by the 4 cylinder performance!
Like other wireless charging systems, it needs to be on the pad. The pad just happens to be behind the dash panel.
YES please-build the Cadillac ATS Coupe Convertible! Heck, I just wish the ATS Coupe would show up soon. Thanks,
very nice
Yes please build the ATS convertible! !!!!!!!!!!!!!.
If done right, Cadillac should built the convertible as long the body rigidity and fun to drive factor is the same or better than the coupe. I say go for it!
YES BUILD THE ATS CONVERTIBLE!!!!!!!!
Would be great if they offered a choice of hardtop for the younger buyer and a soft top for the older buyer. You have good taste . . . I had a Saturn Sky Redline - of course, with a manual, for a short period of time.
I kind of wish I was able to keep the sky, I remember a few years ago maybe 2005 or 06 at an auto show in Miami saw it. I thought to myself how cool is that? It turns out that was my first new car. Yes make a hardtop
I'm not much into convertibles but a hard top convertible might look nice.

Hard top ATS vert would be nice... :-)
Yes they should make an ats convertible so it can beast the 4 series convertible
All the two door models need a convertible. And please make a full size coupé and convertible to knock the the mb SL out. Also the ats and the xts need v8 v models.
hard top convertible please!!!!
Sure they should. Before that though, I think they should remove the black plastic in the front bumper and grill and replace it with like a black or gray wire mesh.
I have a ATS and it's good... BUT! Where is the ATS V?
Cadillac really need to bring back the traditional buttons & knobs as in other GM cars. This ATS would also be much more appealing if it has ventilated seats and modern-looking gauges.
Until then, I'm not buying a Caddy.
ATS needs ventilated seats, maybe a better sound for the ATS V
Cool car
Convertible would be sweet
But big price???
CTS-V Convertible.... then you'd have something ;)
yeah but not a softtop a hardtop convertable
Omg yes a t top ATS and convertible. Why didnt you the ats screams for it. You can take my car and do a concept for it i will let youi have the 2015 and would kill for t_tops
No keep it as a coupe love the coupe
A convertible Caddy eh? makes sense.
Well, I certainly agree but Bob said I can't vote . . . :(
Really good looking car...unlike the hideous CTS coupe.
You're crazy! the CTS coupe looks amazing!
Man all of these kool vehicles including the ATS Coupe and not one 360 view of any of the cars!? We need a little less talking and better views and information regarding the cars.

Convertible if it's a very light hardtop and the term "vinyl" is deemed inappropriate language at work.
no
Convertible needs to be hardtop... It's nicer and competes with Bmw ... No cloth that's ugly
Agreed. Hopefully the accountants let them actually compete instead of building rental cars.
No to the convertible, terrible idea!
But CUE is terrible...
Actually, the *concept* is great - after all, it is kind of ripped off from tablets - and the latest version is indeed improved. No convertibles, period.
