  • So sorry for the autofocus on this video. My camera has been acting up. Thank you for understanding
    I get asked this question all the time and it was time to dedicate a video to answering it. No, there are no long term effects to the quality of your vision if you wear computer glasses. Digital Eye Strain is a real problem and computer glasses can help. In this video I'll give you an opticians perspective to how computer glasses work and how you may become dependent on them.

    Hey great videos! Helped me to understand some things I didn't have idea they exist haha. The thing is I have a question, as you said in some videos talking about Gunnar glasses and it's little magnification to help focus at close range (20-24") so that makes them great for computer use (bc that's their purpose), but is there any problem if you want to use them to drive at night? Will they affect my vision if using them this way or is it safe to do it?

    I'm a student and I have many of the symptoms you mentioned (including difficulty sleeping) due to long studying sessions both with a laptop an without and I know I do not need a prescription. I'm thinking of buying the Spektrum which were the winner of your under $40 which also offer magnification now. The thing I wanted to ask you is that is a 0.50 magnification (the lowest they offer besides no magnification) a lot? Will it cause problems? Because as you mentioned many times the Gunnars for example have a 0.25 magnification and that is largely what helps eyes being focused but 0.50 is double of that

    So I have been wearing Gunnars for over 5 years. At first it was just for gaming but then I started to feel the need to wear them out to movies/concerts and then eventually all the time(I had 20/20 vision). My frames are currently broken and I am looking at my phone right now and everything is just seems off. I'm just a little afraid that I have permanently damaged my vision. I had no idea the lenses had a .25x magnification until I watched your video. I am definitely dependant on them and I don't want to try any other brands because I'm so used to the Gunnar lenses. I'm currently trying to get replacement frames but I feel like I'll have to wear them for the rest of my life and I'm a little unnerved right now.

    How can I tell if a pair of blue light filtering glasses has magnification or not? I am looking for blue light filtering glasses on amazon and noticing sporadic reviews on certain brands saying the pairs have magnification while other people say there is none. I was looking at Duco glasses and J + S glasses. I had lasik and my eyes have been a mess since. I’m on the computer for work 9 hours a day and need some relief but I’m not sure which inexpensive glasses for blue light filtering I should try. So many options!

      To the trained eye, power in the lens is immediately noticeable by simply looking through the lens. For everyone else, you'll need a machine to verify if the lens has power or not. The instrument is called a Lensometer.
      As a quick guide, if you paid less than $50 USD then there is a 90% chance you have lenses without power. J+S Vision frames are pretty good but they have a very limited frame selection.
      Pixel is good and so are Felix Gray. Kooper Eyewear is on the up and up so check them out too.
      Hope this helps! I loved you in Back to the Future btw haha

      A lot of eye doctors are overlooking digital eye strain. Since the cause isn’t found in the health or external appearance of the eye they tend to downplay it.
      Computer glasses can help but I would actually start by incorporating breaks every 15-20 minutes. Rest your eyes by blinking and looking away from the screen. Combine that with computer glasses and you should see a big improvement.

    • @EyeInfluence

      Gunnar and Felix Gray offer blue light protection. I just wanted to make sure I made the difference clear. Computer glasses don't prioritize blue light protection but that doesn't mean they don't offer that. Felix Gray lenses block 50% and Gunnar has 65, 30 and 10% BPF lenses.
      If you wear prescription lenses then you can have custom computer glasses made with coatings such as Shamir Blue Zero. That will give you blue light protection.
      I hope that helps.

    • @EyeInfluence

      Most likely you can just leave your prescription as is, since it's already correcting for near vision, and just speak to your optician about making the lenses using your near PD.

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  5 лет назад

      @@anshulrajawat Your doctor is correct. You're naturally Far Sighted which means your +.75 is already correcting to sharpen your near vision. You wouldn't want to add any more power to that. That's why my suggestion is to leave your prescription as is and, if you can, make a separate set of computer glasses that will have the optical center decentered to help with extended computer use.
      At 30 years old, you don't need much else. Just use that +.75 Rx that your doctor gave you and combine it with an Anti-Reflective coating, a blue light blocker of your choice (AR or built into the lens) and you'll be good to go.

    Actually Gunnar is stating that their glasses over a magnification in their FAQ page (gunnar.com/faqs/) "The slight magnification helps the eyes muscles to not struggle and corrects blurry vision". I also somehow knew that the magnification is 0.25 before I watch your other video, but I don't know if I had found this info on their site or somewhere else.

    • @EyeInfluence
      @EyeInfluence  5 лет назад +2

      Funny thing is, when a question is obviously so common, isn't that an indication that Gunnar is doing a bad job of informing people about it? I mean, that's such an important element to their lenses and people have to ask in order to get a clear answer. That's why I made the Gunnar video; to make it clear that Gunnar has that power in the lens. :)
      Maybe one day it won't have to be in the FAQ because they will tell people in a clear and easy to understand manner. And hopefully they give people the chance to go without the power for the same price. Currently you'd have to pay extra to have no power in the lens.

    No no no. Thats NOT how sleep works. Sleeping longer is not the solution to need less coffee. Sleeping better is the solution to that. Sleeping even amount of hours and with a better bed, mattress and pillow. Not longer. Otherwise good vid.

    If I were to make this video it would have been at least 10 minutes shorter. You got to stop repeating stuff so much. Stay to the point what you made this video for!

      I appreciate the feedback. Really do. Being a good RUclipsr means constantly learning from past videos and making adjustments on new ones. I'm doing that.
      Hopefully you subscribe. Our community needs people with honest opinions.

      @@EyeInfluence your information is very well presented but only thing is that they are lengthy. Try to stay within 7 minutes to maintain the focus of viewers.
      I have bought computer glasses after watching your videos (gunnar intercept). They just got delivered yesterday!
