I recently purchased this in White and this video is Hands down the BEST proffesional video on the functionalities of this Gimble on RUclips. Than God there are still SENSIBLE and INTELLIGENT people left on RUclips because there are alot of unproffesional waste of time videos out there. This video is AMAZING full of infornation and basically EVERYTHING there is to KNOW. Thank you so much for your precise informative lessons its so greatly aporeciated!

Second item. When connecting to bluetooth the first time - it will ask you to SCAN QR code. The code is on the box itself. If it does NOT connect to Bluetooth - click the 3 bars in the upper left and make sure you choose the correct gimbal you are trying to use. It appears to DEFAULT to Smooth 2

The vertigo tutorial is not clear. The same setting walking out or in? Apply stabilization where FCPX?
is there a way to get it to reset horizon and tilt? it goes off axis from time to time. on the osmo you can double click and it resets.
I have a Hua Wei mate10 and a SJ7 star action camera. I just can't use my Shiyun Smooth4 control on these two camera. Is it that Shiyun smooth4 can only operate with iphone and Go Pro camera?
Hey how can I pan or tilt the phone if I am shooting a program on stage when the gymbal is fixed on a tripode
Mine doesn't move fast as yours on the 3x3 PANO mode for example. Is it because of the phone or something I change in the settings?

Just got mine yesterday. Charged it up overnight. I've watched several instructional videos about it, but i'm having two main problems. When I press RECORD, i get a "video" that is just the first "photo" that it took but it lasts the duration of the video. So, 37 seconds of the dining room table, no movement, but i can hear the sound so it was 'recording', but just what looks like a still picture. Secondly, i can't see to get the flash to stay on for video. Flash works fine for taking photos. Using a Samsung S7 Edge which I love and have no other issues with. Any ideas?

Great review. I have iPhone 11 Pro max, and after balancing the iPhone is in the horizontal flat position, not like yours vertical-horizontal. Is my Gimble Smooth 4 not compatible with iPhone 11 Pro Max?
Can someone please explain why I need to allow this app to access EVERYTHING on my phone? Encrypted or not! It spent an hour transferring data from my phone to WHERE? The transfer icons are going wild. So can someone explain why they need to copy my phone information to connect?
Does it have a selfie (backwards) mode, like the Smooth Q? This is helpful for superfish eye shots so that the gimbal doesnt get in the frame.
is it normal for a gimbal in some positions to tremble or maybe I have a faulty copy

And one more thing... which model is the tripod that you are using and where did you buy it from? I love its easy locking mechanism for cameras on top. Crazy I came to Naples, Florida to visit my parents when I received this in the mail. Watched this video and saw Naples Florida in your shots!
The Horizon is always off by 1,25 degrees, with all the Zhiyun Gimbals I own, smooth 3, smooth2, crane 2, and also Smooth 4 does this as well. I asked previously here what your take was on that problem, and the fact that the built-in 6 step calibration will not be executable in step 2, for that very motor axis in question cannot turn as is being required in the software. Resulting in that the Horizon will remain crooked in the film footage instead of straight. Why were my comment and question deleted here?
Finally a video that explains everything. Great video and I'm looking forward to getting one myself but one thing that I'm concerned about is that some people on youtube found the footage not quite as smooth as the footage with smooth q is. But the guy who said that was using the pre production one. Do you find any difference on the smoothness compared to other gimbals?
Darren, truly awesome tutorial. Do you know of a WHITE camera monopod selfie stick that is compatible with this 1/4” screw attachment and the Zhiyun Smooth 4 in particular?? Thank you!
It should be mentioned that all advertised photo features only record in 4K. Even worse in Panomodus, here are the photos only a resolution of 4000x500 in the 3x3 Panos 3000x1000.
Does the ZY Play app on Android lack any of the features that were presented in the iOS app in this video? Most companies that make these phone gimbals (Smooth 4 is my favorite by far) tend to have more (or better polished) features on iOS than on Android. As I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and don't plan on switching to an iPhone, I would be very happy if anyone could provide me with this information before purchasing the product. Thanks!

Super Tutorial but , can you tell me what combination of lighting to usb cable has to be used to charge the iPhone from the gimbal while using it
I have MORE THAN A DOZEN LIGHTING TO USB CABLE COMBINATION CABLES that i have tried and none are able to charge the iPhone when connected to the usb port in the arm of the tilt motor. Why can Zhiyun supply this cable.

Hey Mercel, unfortunately, I do not know. I've only used the Smooth 4 with my iPhone 10. At some point I'll upgrade and I'll let you know, you may want to check with Zhiyun directly.
Thanks man, just got mine and try to figure out how to get it right. One question, is it really ok to tilt and adjust the upper part by hand while it is connected? In motion timeless you did that , and in the end to close off phone go motion, you moved it by hand again. Isn’t it harm to the gimbal?

Can you please tell me what functions can the Smooth 4 do without the use of the Zhiyun Play app?
I'm considering researching and purchasing the DJI Osmo 2 but still not sure. I prefer a Gimbal with less functions but have the ability to use all of.

Darren, I noticed from your video that ZY Play had a maximum video resolution of 4K@30fps in the app v1.72 [beta], which corresponds to the max of the iPhone 7+ you were using. Has the app been updated since you shot this video and does it [now] support iPhone 8+ recording 4K@60FPS?
When I asked the same of Zhiyun on Amazon, they replied:
"Yes, Smooth 4 & APP & iPhone 8+ supports high def 4K60fps recording. However, you should store the video from your cellphone to computer via the data cable. Please do not save the video in the APP directly, otherwise it will be compressed, NOT 4K anymore."
Did or does the app have this same limitation [danger of accidental and irreversible compression] when recording with iPhone 7+ in 4K30fps?

You say obvious stuff like save the charging cable, duh but skipped the basic setup steps! The gimble out of the box comes folded. How did you get it in the position you started with? How do you position the phone horizontally? Not a good tutorial imo :(

With the 180 pano. How can I set the default view, where is the center of the panorama? I don't know, maybe the difference (or bug) because I'm using Android phone, but I can't set the default view for the 180pano.

MIght be a bug, I haven't used it with an Android, it's definitely working with the iPhone.
I tried with iphone, the gimbal start the 180 pano with the 90* angle with the direction of the phone when press the shutter button. But with Android, the gimbal start with a direction that I don't know where it start. I have to cancel the shot, or move the direction and get a result I didn't want.
Can you pass this bug to Zhiyun, so they can fix it with the Android app in the near update?
Because maybe you send them the problem, they'll fix it sooner than the normal users like us.

Great detailed review. I have reached out to a few youtubers who have the Smooth 4 and recieved a response to test with a Samsung Note 8. Hoping the smooth 4 has fixed the smooth Q's short comings. I use the smooth with a Samsung S8 plus without the app, it works better a d will shoot 4K. The app will not. Thank you for responding.
I asked Micro Four Nerds and she mentioned the Android app will be ready at launch so she hasn't tested it yet. Apparently, it's completely different from the other Smooth apps so we shall see.
