I know what you mean. His stuff comes off as creepy to me, but I respect the musicality of it through his career, even Palace Brothers even tho it isn’t my cup of tea. I try him out every once in awhile, it generally seems/feels pretentious to me as a lot of modern folk seems self important, but whatever floats your boat; it's music so there's plenty out there to find that resonates; especially now of all times. It’s good songwriting, well orchestrated/arranged, performed and recorded anyways, and that’s no small task.
@@YOGOMAN There is a separation between Billy and his art in my mind, I don't listen to these songs and read "Pretentious" as it's far too easy to write off any attempted reach for betterment as just that. Pretentious is a poison word which carries with it a stifling, polluted meaning. I'd see what is right in front of me, Knowing nothing of the man who produces it, I see a reaching soul trying to encapsulate their experience. Even if it's for only 6 minutes, This is what Billy choose to show the World. Not to bask in his own light, But to give a guiding light to us. Or at the very least comfort as he appears aware of the current conditions many of us find ourselves in.
You where right about the song being "Creepy" but it's not because of the artist and rather the subject. There is a vein of deep sadness running through Glasgow born from the torment we've inflicted upon each other.
I love Will Oldham, but this one is a snoozer.....zzzzzz..........
