I've just bought a 67 plate and literally searched your title! Had a bad day today, i bought the car last night, so first drives, drove out today after a stressful work day and oh my! I felt so much happier
I was skeptical about fitting in one of these at 6’4” initially but was surprised I did fit okay. I lowered the driver side seat another 1’ 1/2” and it’s perfect. Best fun I’ve had in years. Got away from German cars after 20yrs and won’t look back. 😄🤘🏼
You are spot on about this car being a stress relief every time you drive it. Plus you learn earlier on about that blind spot. First time I experience it I almost got destroyed by a big truck. Never make that mistake again.
I agree 100%. My MX-5 is my stress relief. I now own a 2021 Soul Red soft top that i am madly in love with, but to be honest, i miss my 92 smurf blue NA some times. Wish i could have kept both.
The NC is a great car. I’ve been daily driving mine for four years and love it. It’s so good I can’t bring myself to trade for a new one. Every time I test drive a new one I realize how good the NC is. If you can find a low mileage clean NC buy it. I wanted a manual but found a beautiful automatic withe the power hard top. It’s just amazing fun and so affordable compared to other convertible sports cars.
I moved from my NC1 to my ND1 last year and I have to say, I agree with you. the feeling of hydraulic power steering is what i miss the most, the electric power steering in the ND is a but floppy. and the main gripe i have about the ND is that it doesnt have the lap heater that the NC had :(
Nice review. Thanks for sharing. Actually, I rally liked your "stress relief" reminder. I was a happy young man and MGA´59 coupe owner back in 1970. I moved and was forced to sell it. I still have the love for MGA in my heart.A dream would be a well maintained MGA. But, second best would be a used Miata :-)
thanks for video 'infinite shifts' by the way the manual says always have the car on when roof goes up and down because it takes higher amps from battery and they caution you so battery doesn't go dead (disregard if car was on and i just couldn't hear it in video)
I love my MX-5 so much, always a pleasure taking her for a drive... I used to drive a second hand 2008 NC 2.0 for 6 years, switched a few months ago for a 2017 ND RF 1.5. The fun is definitely there, even with 30 bhp less. The ND drives much better than the NC overall, the only downside for me is the lack of space (not even a glovebox !), but the fun level is so high. Good thing if you live in Belgium (as I do): taxes are much lower on the 1.5 and the fuel consumption too 😁
You are so wrong about the automatic. In this car, with the option to drive the AT in manual mode, plus the paddle shifters, PLUS the "Sport Mode", it is in some ways better than the manual. Yes, old automatics were pretty lame, with just "D" as the only choice, but this car in the AT is great. I know, I have one. Have you even tried one, or are you just regurgitating old, outdated thinking?
I know I am the "odd man out" because I see just about zero appeal to driving with "the top down". So I would have the hard top and seldom if ever push the button to drive it as a convertible. So, my question--which I don't think you covered is, "how good is the sound deadening on the highway and around town"?
Each generation it gets better? Oh yes the 2027 will be electric, automatic heavy slug. With a 100 mile range. Maybe a back seats. Oh yes welcome to the modern age. Just like the Integral 4 seater. The 3500 pound Miata. It will truly be Americanized. Nice and sporty just Like a four door Civic!
The RF looks nice but for me there are too many moving parts. Also the owners manual has a section telling you what to do if the top sticks open. So the top sticking must not be an isolated occurrence. I can also operate my soft top at up to 35 mph.
I am on my fourth MX-5 and now drive a 2010 GT PRHT auto. After owning 2 manuals and now my second auto, I prefer the auto now after driving manual trucks for 45 years. With the paddle shifters, it is just as much fun as a manual. The RF to me is a coupe with a big sunroof. Not a true convertible. And noisy.
Ive owned two., a 1990 and a 1993. I loved them both. Driving one in Montana, where men drive trucks and sheep are nervous, I was accosted almost every day because "only women and gay men drive Miatas". I was run off the road twice where the hot headed guy tried to provoke a fistfight. Just sayin', be prepared. The newer models look really cool and maybe things have changed.
As the European I dont see anything unmanly in this car. On the flip side I would never want to have a pickup truck. I would rather driver fiat 500 abarth.
The Miata is a great car no doubt but it is definitely NOT the most connected car on the road. If you believe it is drive a 4c or better yet an Elise or Emira. The Miata feels soft by comparison. To say nothing of real track rats like an Atom or BAC.
Beautiful car. But. Weak engine. No power, abysmal torque output. Plus my seat was all the way back. Could not recline. And no grip. A turbo engine and wider tires and just a bit bigger. Would be needed to make it a real sports car. Sold my BBR Club
Grip can be detrimental to fun, MIatas are less grippy on purpose. Sounds like you never pushed the car to it's limits and danced with it. It has lower limits on purpose, that's what makes it fun on roads other than racetracks. A real sports car? It's the most raced car in the world. It's built with motorsports in mind, like the way it can keep the oil pressure constant through high G turns. Sounds like you never pushed the car to it's limit and danced with it. It has lower limits on purpose, that's what makes it fun on roads other than racetracks.

This is true I can be having a bad day but if I take this car out on a quiet summer night with no cars around me it’s huge a big stress reliever

I've been driving my 2021 RF and still looking forward to driving it every time!
Nice review. I live in New Jersey. My 2023 RF will be here in August. I cannot wait. I'm 6 foot tall. But I test drove on. I fit fine.
Almost same situation and I’m considering the ST, reassuring to hear you fit.
You are spot on about this car being a stress relief every time you drive it. Plus you learn earlier on about that blind spot. First time I experience it I almost got destroyed by a big truck. Never make that mistake again.
my mx-5 is one of the best built cars ive owned, so nice to drive, i try to drive often just to relax
Bought a new MX5 last year. Best car I’ve ever owned! The build quality is excellent and it’s a real little rocket ship! Amazing fun to drive…
I agree 100%. My MX-5 is my stress relief. I now own a 2021 Soul Red soft top that i am madly in love with, but to be honest, i miss my 92 smurf blue NA some times. Wish i could have kept both.
This RF version is gorgeous, especially in the color Soul Red!

@@astro_mittens5792 Yes and a glove box and the bottle holders on doors is nice!!
@@rembo183yea the water bottle holder in the door is something I miss.
Good review. Miatas are fantastic cars!

Great car, but don't knock the auto transmission option - it's also excellent.
Yup.
No it isn't! 🤦🏽
I prefer the 6 speed auto now after two 6 speed manuals. Shifts better and faster.
Both transmission options are good.
The MX-5 being generally a "driver’s car" makes the manual a more valuable choice!
It’s usually the one to get.
I love my automatic. Sorry but I cant be bothered with a manual.
The amazingly fun to drive sports car 🚗
I miss my nc miata so much but i do enjoy my nb quite a bit too
Guess you are in the Austin area?
First.
My 2023 GT RF is due to be delivered In July
Congrats I'm excited for you man!
You’re going to love it. One of the best driving experiences for satisfaction and fun I’ve ever had. Actually more engaging than my 2003 M3.
Right now I'm driving a 2018 Mazda3 Grand Touring, but someday I will have an MX-5.
I seriously want Mazda to launch this in India, but I don't think it's ever going to happen :(
It’s not a fast back, it has a straight rear window. Maybe a Stingray.
Do this vehicle have a timing chain or timing belt
A chain.

I sold my MX-5 3 months ago which I drove for 6 years since brand new. Miss it a lot. Will be waiting for the NE.
That's a long wait. Isn't it set for 2026?
@@1bntcr001 I think we will hear something next year. Had to buy a car that fits family. But I hope I'll be able to get another MX-5 in a few years:)

You absolutely can get an automatic and enjoy it so if you want an automatic get the automatic.
have u tried the soft top? if yes, which one would you prefer, soft or RF?
RF but i live in seattle so it is soo much more versitle

Yes, if you spend way more you can get a better car. Most of us can't afford more car than the Miata, though, so the comparison isn't useful

You have a turbo miata in form of fiat 124
