Moving to the Kansas side of the metro actually makes a lot of sense, for a number of reasons. Most of the newer development is taking place over there…it’s an affluent area that would happily put down money on tickets to games. The Kansas Speedway (Indy, NASCAR) is there. The soccer stadium for Sporting KC (MLS) is there. Legends Field for the T-Bones (Independent baseball) is there. Having the Royals and Chiefs in the vicinity just makes sense. I’d even drive over from Colorado for a game or two, since it’d be closer.
If the Hunts are gonna move the Chiefs and have Kansas taxpayers pay for; they should probably do it while they still got Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs will not be as valuable as they are without Mahomes are they currently are with him.
Kansas is so eager because where they are wanting to put it would make for a HUGE entertainment region. Everything about this bid is putting them by the Speedway. This area already has a NASCAR track, an MLS stadium, and another baseballl stadium (I am honestly not sure exactly how the American Association of Professional Baseball is associated with the MLB) all in the same location. This area has several amenities (hotels shopping, etc.) and has grown by leaps and bounds since the speedway was built. With all of that though, there is one thing missing from the area, a large enclosed stadium. I honestly don't think that they care as much about the Royals since their stadium wouldn't be enclosed. But the new Chiefs stadium. That would be huge for the area. This would allow them to host numerous events that they currently can't attend times of the year that they can't. Kansas wants the Chiefs' stadium where they want it for the same reason that Missouri wanted the Royals' stadium right next to the T-Mobile Center.
I am hoping that for the sake of the Kansas citizens they get the same chance to vote on their tax future that the Missouri people did. Not just politicians spending future money.
The Governor of Kansas doesn't really get much of a say. The legislature has the ability to override her veto with only Republican votes. The real issue with this, is that some of the representatives in Western Kansas might be hesitant to help pay for the team that's a 6-7 hour drive away from their constituents.
Kansas is also using money from sports gambling so don’t have to have county approval like Jackson county. I think they want the chiefs so bad near the nascar track, they released “renderings “ , though my fear is royals are SOL, I’m not sure Kansas gov wants them and if they can’t get in communication with Jackson county that royals will be gone from kc. I really think Sherman wants a downtown stadium and I’m sure some downtown that wants baseball will do what ks gov is doing for chiefs and bend over backwards
Think of this as a tale as old as time. In the old times having a cathedral made you a point of power. In American history having a post office made you a point of power. In today's world having a professional team makes you a legitimate point of power. For KCK it would allow them to step out KCM shadow a bit more and not be seen as the country bumpkin little brother and if they're willing to pay for it then who on the KCM side can argue? Honestly I don't want to see the teams split up but maybe its time.
@@brodiebrazil Don’t quit your day job Brodie. This is what is going to happen when it goes to the ballot in the state of Nevada with the A’s fighting citizens over a free lunch of not wanting to pay for a stadium.
The "Michael Scott" quote was actually Wayne Gretzky's quote, and it's missing the other half. Obviously there are local BIA/state revenue implications, but I'm just talking about the fans' perspective here.
I think a lot of us that are Chiefs/Royals fans dont really care if they're in KS or MO as long as they dont leave the KC area entirely. There are a few who dont want them to move over to KS but ive seen a fair amount of support for them doing so as long as they still stay in the KC area
I've been a LIFELONG fan (30yrs and counting), and it would be such a kick in the balls if either team crossed over to Kansas. It would be hard to get over it, and the financial impact would be unmeasurable as well. I hope both teams can figure out a way to stay because I can already see this going very badly for already poor relations between the states. I'm not gonna say I won't be a fan anymore, but I absolutely will say that I will never pay for a seat in a Kansas built Chiefs or Royals stadium.
It would be the same energy that I lost for a team like Sporting KC when they chose to go to Kansas instead of Missouri. That's why I have never been to a game or own any merch for their franchise. It's not so much about not liking Kansas as it is about feeling as though I've been robbed by Kansas!!
With generational/demographic shifts towards younger tax payers who aren’t as interested in sports as previous generations, I shouldn’t be surprising that referendums on tax money to pay for sports teams’ stadiums might fail.
I think you are wrong about people in Jackson county not wanting to pay for the stadiums. I'm hearing it was a bad tax plan. Jackson county leaders need to draft a better plan. I personally think they should include more counties.
Kansas passed sports gambling a few years back. Spme of that tax revenue goes to pro sports stadium funds. Throw in creation of special tax districts they will find that money for at least 1 stadium
Tax payer dollars to pay for stadiums that leagues make billions for billionaire owners is stupid. You could fix hunger, homelessness, crime and much more with that money than a stadium.
Book should never have been opened. Jackson County has been paying for 43% season tickets going to Johnson County. The poor get poorer should ring a bell here. I’m not new to your argument. Cake eaters want it all. If Chiefs move, I hope Missouri folks shut the book on Chiefs. Likely won’t.
There's probably a clause in the contracts that the performer is required to spout wacko politics at every opportunity under servere sanctions if not carried out.
The ROYALS should relocate to Kansas or Nashville, TN. The CHIEFS will probably just stay at Arrowhead with some minor Stadium Improvements paid mostly by them.
You don't know the history of how the KS side of KC has developed. KS has done nothing but "take" from the MO side of KC for decades. The state has no interest in what is best for the metro area, but what is best for Kansas. KS will absolutely do anything and everything it takes to try and lure the teams over just like they lured over KC's MLS team and hundreds of companies, hospitals, universities etc over the past several decades. KC is a city that is historically based in MO. The KS side is suburban and barely existed 40-50 years ago. KCK is only 150,000 people. Even Overland Park, KS (another suburb) is much larger than KCK. KCMO is 520,000. The KS side of KC only has 900,000 of the 2.4 million people in the metro. The MO side is where the main downtown is, the museums, the airport, the union station, all the urban entertainment districts etc. It's where the pro teams should also be. Wake up KCMO and MO. Save the teams. Build a new MLB stadium downtown and build a new Arrowhead (or a proper renovation to Arrowhead) or you WILL lose both teams to KS and may end up losing the Royals to another metro. Downtown KC needs the Royals and the Royals need to be downtown. It's okay, parking will be fine, stop being scared of going into the city.
@@billcook4768 I would say the Royals need downtown more than downtown needs the Royals, but downtown could still use them. Downtown KC is kind of cool once a month during first Fridays. You can go down there on a nice day and the streets and sidewalks are all empty except maybe a few small pockets. It's mostly just parking lots and they are barely even used most of the time.
