    TOPEKA, Kan. -- Some Kansas lawmakers see a chance to lure Kansas City's two biggest professional sports teams across the Missouri border, but an effort to help the Super Bowl champion Chiefs and the Royals finance new stadiums in the state fizzled over concerns about how it might look to taxpayers.
    Members of the Republican-controlled Legislature pushed a bill Tuesday that would have allowed Kansas officials to authorize at least $1 billion in bonds to cover the entire cost of building each new stadium, paying the debt off with tax revenues generated in the area over 30 years. But GOP leaders didn't bring it up for a vote before lawmakers adjourned their annual session early Wednesday.

    Moving to the Kansas side of the metro actually makes a lot of sense, for a number of reasons. Most of the newer development is taking place over there…it’s an affluent area that would happily put down money on tickets to games. The Kansas Speedway (Indy, NASCAR) is there. The soccer stadium for Sporting KC (MLS) is there. Legends Field for the T-Bones (Independent baseball) is there. Having the Royals and Chiefs in the vicinity just makes sense. I’d even drive over from Colorado for a game or two, since it’d be closer.

    Kansas is also using money from sports gambling so don’t have to have county approval like Jackson county. I think they want the chiefs so bad near the nascar track, they released “renderings “ , though my fear is royals are SOL, I’m not sure Kansas gov wants them and if they can’t get in communication with Jackson county that royals will be gone from kc. I really think Sherman wants a downtown stadium and I’m sure some downtown that wants baseball will do what ks gov is doing for chiefs and bend over backwards

The real issue with this, is that some of the representatives in Western Kansas might be hesitant to help pay for the team that's a 6-7 hour drive away from their constituents.

    Kansas is so eager because where they are wanting to put it would make for a HUGE entertainment region.
    Everything about this bid is putting them by the Speedway. This area already has a NASCAR track, an MLS stadium, and another baseballl stadium (I am honestly not sure exactly how the American Association of Professional Baseball is associated with the MLB) all in the same location. This area has several amenities (hotels shopping, etc.) and has grown by leaps and bounds since the speedway was built. With all of that though, there is one thing missing from the area, a large enclosed stadium.
    I honestly don't think that they care as much about the Royals since their stadium wouldn't be enclosed. But the new Chiefs stadium. That would be huge for the area. This would allow them to host numerous events that they currently can't attend times of the year that they can't. Kansas wants the Chiefs' stadium where they want it for the same reason that Missouri wanted the Royals' stadium right next to the T-Mobile Center.

    Think of this as a tale as old as time. In the old times having a cathedral made you a point of power. In American history having a post office made you a point of power. In today's world having a professional team makes you a legitimate point of power. For KCK it would allow them to step out KCM shadow a bit more and not be seen as the country bumpkin little brother and if they're willing to pay for it then who on the KCM side can argue? Honestly I don't want to see the teams split up but maybe its time.

How could any in Kansas city, Missouri support it, Kansas City Mo, made a Chiefs franchise worth $25,000 dollars in beginning. supported with tax dollars for 50 years making Chiefs worth 4.5 billion now. Therefore, would lose lots of fans in a hurry and their value would drop in Kansas. Also. Kansas cannot build any quality football stadium for 1 billion, Cleveland Browns asking 2.4 billion for new football stadium. If Kansas such a good NFL site, why not apply to the NFL for NFL franchise?

    The "Michael Scott" quote was actually Wayne Gretzky's quote, and it's missing the other half. "You miss one hundred percent of the shots you don't take, even though there is only a 1-5 percent probability of scoring." So Tarwater was likely intending to quote The Great One.
    Now that I've injected a marginally useful fact to the proceedings, I have a question for the Kansas City fans in the area: would it make any material difference if the teams operated out of Kansas City, Kansas as opposed to Kansas City, Missouri? Obviously there are local BIA/state revenue implications, but I'm just talking about the fans' perspective here.

    You don't know the history of how the KS side of KC has developed. KS has done nothing but "take" from the MO side of KC for decades. The state has no interest in what is best for the metro area, but what is best for Kansas.
    KS will absolutely do anything and everything it takes to try and lure the teams over just like they lured over KC's MLS team and hundreds of companies, hospitals, universities etc over the past several decades.
    KC is a city that is historically based in MO. The KS side is suburban and barely existed 40-50 years ago. KCK is only 150,000 people. Even Overland Park, KS (another suburb) is much larger than KCK. KCMO is 520,000. The KS side of KC only has 900,000 of the 2.4 million people in the metro. The MO side is where the main downtown is, the museums, the airport, the union station, all the urban entertainment districts etc. It's where the pro teams should also be.
    Wake up KCMO and MO. Save the teams. Build a new MLB stadium downtown and build a new Arrowhead (or a proper renovation to Arrowhead) or you WILL lose both teams to KS and may end up losing the Royals to another metro.
    Downtown KC needs the Royals and the Royals need to be downtown. It's okay, parking will be fine, stop being scared of going into the city.

    • @billcook4768
      @billcook4768 Месяц назад

      Why does downtown KS “need” the Royals?

    • @kc2dc444
      @kc2dc444 Месяц назад

      @@billcook4768 I would say the Royals need downtown more than downtown needs the Royals, but downtown could still use them.
      Downtown KC is kind of cool once a month during first Fridays. The rest of the time it feels like a ghost town.
      Downtown KC is one of the most quiet and dead downtowns there is with very few people 95% of the time. You can go down there on a nice day and the streets and sidewalks are all empty except maybe a few small pockets. It's mostly just parking lots and they are barely even used most of the time.
      A pro team bringing 15-30 thousand people downtown 80 times a year will give the city more life.
      But I get it. People in KC are very suburban oriented and just the idea of going downtown is intimidating.

    • @JaejoongPrincess
      @JaejoongPrincess Месяц назад

      You're absolutely spot on with the whole war between KCMO vs KCK. I live in KCMO, so I get it. I really hope both teams stay in KCMO and this is their home and have way too much history and one of a kind stadiums to be leaving behind. KCMO doesn't want the Chiefs and Royals and doesn't deserve both teams. If they move, no other professional sport will set foot in Missouri. Missouri lost several teams already. I wanted both teams to stay and was willing to pay my pennies in taxes to keep them here. Since the vote didn't pass and hearing a lot of people talk trash about both teams and telling them to leave and stuff, I would move the teams somewhere else outside of Missouri. The vote no people will feel the consequences of having no MLB and an NFL team in KCMO that attracts and brings businesses to KCMO along with their taxes that will skyrocket to no ends to make up for all the revenue loss. They rather pay high taxes then the current taxes we are paying now.
