A real bummer that point near the ricasso broke off, that looked really nice. But nevertheless a fantastic piece of art. Thanks for working so hard to put this competition together!
It is incredible how you are able to mentally keep track of what is happening with the layers through all those steps!! I had no idea it was so difficult to achieve these patterns! The graphics you provide really help a lot, I can imagine what is going on. I didn't realize forge men could create these patterns with real metal like this! I used to think they just carved in patterns afterwards or something, but the steal was solid blocks. It is so much more satisfying to realize that they are true metals running through there. Amazing video please keep making them, I really love your stuff.
Looking at this blade it's very hard to believe that you have not completed your journeyman qualifications yet brother that looks like Masters work to me absolutely stunning
Haven't watched all the builds but seen all the pics and your work just blows me away! The entries are all beautiful in their own style but yours just has a classical elegance that I love. I don't really know the first thing about it technically but I'm so moved by the process and the finished product is just astonishing.
This video popped in my feed and I'm glad it did. It's nice to watch a blade smith forge and show their talent and imagination. I recently watched a video of someone making a reimagined medieval mandalorian helmet and was punching the heated metal with him gloved fist. That was the first time I've ever given a thumbs down on a video in years.
The graphics showing the layers of the billet were extremely informative in helping me understand how the Damazene process works, I am often frustrated when watching these forging videos and the smiths jump cut from part of the billet process to another and I, a mere pleb watching the video, can't determine why its done in that way, this really helped me understand the process much better, thank you.
Just when I think you can't top the craftmanship of your previous knives, you go and make something as incredible as this. That patterning is gorgeous!
It actually took my breath away, it was so stunning! I’ve never seen Damascus steel with such incredible contrast. Sorry that I’m so late to the table; I’d have voted for you without question. Amazing work, truly amazing.
I've gotta say man, I've watched hundreds of hours of knife and sword makers videos. Of course your work is fantastic but it's the information I find better than any other channels, you're the first maker I've seen who puts a graphic next to you forging explaining and showing exactly what all the movements are actually doing. It's one thing to watch a blade of Damascus being forged but I've never known or been told what all the turns such are doing to the pattern. Very cool!!! It goes without saying the knife came out absolutely fantastic! The word grail gets thrown around far to often, one of your knives is the definition of a grail for me!
I decided to watch all of this first before looking at the other entries, and I think it turned out excellently, despite the break on the end. Well done sir!

I think this and Kyle Royer's Serenity daggers are my 2 favourites of recent times. Absolutely incredible work. That blade is a fantastic contrast to such a classically styled bottom half. Superb!
While the little "points" did look good, but getting that one side broke off, then grinding it all in a curve to match, I think I like the final product better. @@TyrellKnifeworks it's been a pleasure Dennis. I've had a big interest in blade smithing since I was a kid so it's really good to see so many different knife makers and blacksmiths sharing their knowledge of the craft on RUclips.
Absolutely stunning dagger. That Siberian maple burl is absolutely bonkers. I think what I like most is the silver solder inlays. Never would have thought to use silver solder that way. Lol my dad will be brainstorming for sure when I tell him about it. We use it for stuff like repairing chrome bumpers and trim and other stuff in extreme cases. Most of the time we prefer to work or grind/sand the metal and if it's bad enough get replacement pieces. Sometimes you can't when you're working with rare or just not popular classics/antiques though.
A small tip i think could be helpful down the line is using a thickness meter, finding the thickness of the blade, locking the meter at half and scratching all the way down the middle of where you need the final edge to align. Not sure how helpful it is but i use it often for building planes when i need precision
Congratulations! I picked your dagger, after seeing it on RUclips. I decided it would be almost impossible to beat. Thanks for another museum quality piece. Keep up the fantastic work.

I think this and Kyle Royer's Serenity daggers are my 2 favourites of recent times. Absolutely incredible work. That blade is a fantastic contrast to such a classically styled bottom half. Superb!
If you haven’t seen my ocean sunset dagger, check that one out. It’s my favorite build I’ve done. Thanks for watching.
While the little "points" did look good, but getting that one side broke off, then grinding it all in a curve to match, I think I like the final product better. BUT, that's why they make Fords 'n Chevys:). Tyrell, I wish to say a THANK YOU!! for all your work with these videos - I've learned a bunch from watching you work. I really like your copper work and have done a couple of CuMai blades and one Copper Damascus billets. Thank you.
Thanks so much, Ken! It was a bummer at first when the flare broke off but everyone seems to like it better without it. Send me some pics of your knives for Viewer Knives! (tyrellknifeworks at gmail)
Thanks for putting this competition together. I watched each build with awe. To see the different methods and style of each smith to make outstanding Daggers. It was a very hard choice. It came down to fit and finish + the overall look. I only wish i could have hefted each one. Great job. you have my vote. Congrats to all on some fantastic builds !!
Thanks for watching all the builds, that’s the real win!
That is gorgeous you do magical things w metal, love watching! Really enjoy the pattern display so I can try to understand all the folds and flips and turns!!
I’m glad the graphics are helpful. Thanks for watching
wow, love the fact you added the VO with your comments on what youré doing! amazing result, pure art
I’m glad it was helpful. Thanks for watching, Andre!
Exquisite! That Damascus blade turned out amazing. Love the wire fluted handle too. Excellent job and a great video.
Thanks, I appreciate you watching! Check out all the other builds too. 👍
Dude, that's amazing! Beautiful work!
Thanks for checking it out, Dan!
THANK YOU for posting those progress diagrams! It helps so much to get an insight into what each step achieves
I'm glad the graphics are helpful. Thanks for watching, Matt!
Great watching a master at work. I do enjoy watching videos like this. I live in the UK and I can't see myself ever having a go at something like this myself but I find it fascinating.
Thanks for checking out this build, Lee!
@@TyrellKnifeworks I see this is an older video, how did you get on with the Challenge?
@@TurbsUK This dagger did indeed win that challenge. 😉
Dude this is great and I really appreciate the graphics of the layers as you work. Instant new subscriber
I’m glad the graphics are helpful! Thanks for watching!
Truly incredible.. what a masterpiece, a legendary dagger if I ever saw one. Im seeing this video in my recommendations much later so I can only imagine you won this challenge lol. I’ll have to check out the competitor’s pieces for fun but this work of art is simply stunning, bravo!
Thanks for checking out this build! It did indeed win the challenge.
Wow. You are truly an artist, sir. This is beautiful piece. You're always making incredible blades
Thanks so much, Doug! I appreciate you watching!
@@TyrellKnifeworks I recently got into watching these types of videos. Yours by far is my favorite.
Looks like you won. Congratulations! Gorgeous work all the way through.
Thanks so much, Larry! I appreciate you watching!
First knife video I've seen with cross-sections of the billet, thanks for the visualisation!
I’m happy the graphics were helpful! Thanks for watching!
I really like that you give an animation of how your getting your patterns often blacksmiths just try to draw it in a board and it becomes extremely convoluted.
I do it because it helps me visualize it as well so I figured it would help everyone else too. I'm glad its helpful! Thanks for watching, Phillip!
I've seem a lot of Damascus forging, but having the patten images as you went was super cool and helpful. The dagger turned out grear
I'm happy the graphics help you visual what's going on. Thanks for watching!
Oh wow, that is a sexy blade! Yours, Drew’s and Dustin’s are my favorites. So much talent in this crew!
There are some amazing blades in this challenge for sure! Drew's is my personal favorite. That kid is only 17 and producing art like that?! 😮🤯. Thanks for watching, Nicole!
Marvelous!! And I'm actually glad, that one corner snapped because it looks even better line this now! 👌👌👌
Many have said the same thing. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the schematic overlay and details. I learned alot from this.
Thanks for checking out this build! I'm glad the graphics were helpful.
Incredible work Dennis. You've done an amazing job with this build, and putting this dagger challenge together was a great idea. Consider me inspired by this Dennis.
Keep up the good work ⚒️👍👍
Thanks so much, Bradley! Thanks for checking out the builds!
@@TyrellKnifeworks it's been a pleasure Dennis. I've had a big interest in blade smithing since I was a kid so it's really good to see so many different knife makers and blacksmiths sharing their knowledge of the craft on RUclips.
Oh wow, that's a really striking design! Beautiful dagger!
Thanks for taking a look!
@@TyrellKnifeworks here's hoping you win! 😀
@@droganovic6879 The winner announce video went out on April 30th. This dagger did indeed take first place. Thanks!
@@TyrellKnifeworks congratulations! Well deserved! 😀
Thanks for checking it out, Adam. I’m glad I could inspire you with a couple new ideas. 👍
A small tip i think could be helpful down the line is using a thickness meter, finding the thickness of the blade, locking the meter at half and scratching all the way down the middle of where you need the final edge to align. Not sure how helpful it is but i use it often for building planes when i need precision
I already use a scribe to mark the blade and grind to that. The blade is within a few thou side to side. Thanks for watching.
Congratulations! I picked your dagger, after seeing it on RUclips. I decided it would be almost impossible to beat. Thanks for another museum quality piece. Keep up the fantastic work.
Thanks for watching, James!
A truly exceptional piece of craftsmanship and artistry!
Thanks for watching, Paul!
WHAT A STUNNING DAGGER. OH MY GOODNESS!!! I literally bawled when I saw the final product.
Thank you so much! I appreciate you watching ❤️
You and the other makers in this challenge are doing some incredible work. Nicely done.
Thanks for watching all the builds, Wes! We appreciate it!
Was so close to joining the viewer challenge but I suppose I should build up my skills for next time.....I can't wait to see how this turns out! I already have a feeling your dagger is going to be INSANE but very exited to see how the other channels come out...and viewers too!
All the makers have certainly raised the bar on this one! You will not be disappointed!
That looks so good! I can't even begin to comprehend the amount of practice and dedication that has gone into honing your skills to the point where you can create something like that with such ease!
Well, I’ve been at this just under 4 years. If you have the passion and work on it and keep learning, it fine quickly. Thanks for watching, Kevin.
@@TyrellKnifeworks wow, that's impressive how far you've come in such a short space of time? If you don't mind my asking, what kind of background do you have from your career? Has it been largely hand craft/engineering based?
I'm looking forward to reclaiming the garage so I can have a bit of a craft/maker space!
@@kippert1987 in my day job I’m a director of engineering at a software company so nothing to do with machines. 😜
Love how you show diagrams of the patterns , it gives better visualisation of whats actually happening in there , p.s thats a wicked grind , daggers look hard to get that right man
I’m glad the graphics help! Daggers are challenging to grind for sure. Anything that requires symmetry is tough. Thanks for watching.
@@TyrellKnifeworks its a pleasure to watch mate , very satisfying watching a good craftsman at work
The blades you create are stunning works of art. The marriage of dazzling beauty and strong effective weaponry is incredible. Seems silly to call you a journeyman, the expertise you show, instruction given to neophyte smiths in your videos, and contribution to the community denote a master’s touch. I know it is a matter of time and I respect the terms codified by the ABS, but in my mind, sir, you are a master.
Thanks so much, Jesse! I still have a ways to go to be at the MS level, but I appreciate the sentiment.
Amazing work as always! I really like how you put a graphic in the corner it really helps understand and appreciate the process more
Thanks, Sam! I’m happy the graphics are helpful. Check out all the other challenge builds as well, they are all incredible. 👍
@@TyrellKnifeworks oh wow I got a reply 😊😁 I will do!
@@bamsarnie I be reply to all my comments. 👍
Wow, true knifemaking artistry. I kept thinking of the feud between the Montagues & Capulets in Shakespeare's *Romeo and Juliet* . Good job!
I hadn’t thought of Shakespeare. That’s an interesting comparison. Thanks for watching
Incredible blade.... You are a master... That being said it's funny even a guy like you had a unforseen accident... But you recovered nicely. Great work . Thanks.
Knife making is just a series of problems to solve. I don’t think the problems ever end but your solutions get better and faster. 😜. Thanks for watching
@@TyrellKnifeworks Excellent that's what time and experience teach. 👍 Great advice.
