- The Contax G 45mm F2 Planar is one of the best lenses out there, and it was made in the 1990s. Now a company called Funleader has made an easy DIY conversion kit to change this lens into a Leica M-Mount.

Nah.
It´s the Neuromancer.
@@GxAce
Please love your content, but that robotic voice hurts to listen to maybe don't get totally rid of it, but just try to change it to something easier to listen to
@@GxAce without hating it is actually extremely distracting, cringe and annoying. Your content is extremely well made then if feels like a cheesy, out of place, overused bit. I normally agree trolls are annoying but I felt the need to help maybe get through to you
Gx keep doing what you're doing.
These are just comically well-made at this point.
hahah. I take that as a huge compliment ;)
The videos? Yes!!!!
YES. This is high level camera nerd stuff. I don't do any of this, but I like seeing/hearing about it
While we can only speculate about what life was like in the 1990s, content like this allows us to experience it on a more visceral level.
:)
the photos sure looked great with these lenses :D
if you wanted to take some portraits, get a 90s outfit for your model, get a roll of some color or b/w film that was in production back then (idk trix or sth) and any camera with that lens. youll be in heaven.
From personal experience, life in the 1990s was great. The Web was at its heyday, and there was a lot of excitement for this new thing called the Internet. Mobile phones were simpler, messaging was simpler, and the ability to call people from wherever, or send them a text that they would read and respond to right away felt a bit like magic. Photography-wise, it was awesome. Lots of cameras to choose from, at any price, and with some fantastic mid-level and high-end SLRs (though I never liked the increase in use of plastic for camera manufacturing). Film was ubiquitous and cheap - you could even buy it at a supermarket, at least where I lived - and you could easily find a photo lab that really developed & printed your rolls in one hour. The whole process, now that I consider it with hindsight, felt as fast and convenient as digital is today. Cheers! //Rick
It was awesome :)
Imagine meeting someone born in the 90's. What fascinating tales they could regale. Historians claim they were once ruled by a monarch known as the "Fresh Prince".
Seriously can't say enough about how well-made these videos are. I love every second of them.
I miss the 90's. And I miss this channel between every video!
Me too! Also, the wait is over tomorrow ;)
Can't get enough of this Bladerunner-esc GX content. A cinematic feast for the camera gear geek in me.
Gonna be honest here. I've been following you for a while and everytime I see the notification I go on my big monitor, close the curtains, put my headphones on, relax and watch the videos and it's a f***ing blast!
I might be wrong by doing this comparison but it's like I'm enjoying a Blade Runner and let me tell you. This movie is my favorite of all time since I watched it few years after the release.
I would really love to see an episode in which you talk about your journey, what did you do (I think you're a machinist), how you came to photography and filmmaking, how you got better, what inspires you (I have a small idea), it would inspire a lot of us.
your videos are INSANE! they're always an instant watch for me
Glad you like them! :D
I can’t help but make another comment. Your videos are absolutely top shelf. Visuals, lighting, audio, voice, pace, transitions, editing, everything are spot on and seamless.
My only “complaints” are they are way too short and way too long between releases! 😂 But quality beats quantity every time!
I have the full lens from them. Absolutely amazing lens. It looks and feels like a Leica lens. Of course, the optics are incredible!
Totally agree! It's an awesome little kit! Enjoy yours!
The level of your content is unbelievable
Your videos are so beautifully well-made that you could talk about the best burrito of all time and I would watch it with the same level of attention.
Thanks for introducing us to this stuff. Love that you’ve been putting out more content recently. Always enjoyable. Although,no pressure. Just release whenever you want.
I love your content. I love your aesthetics. I love that retro-cyberpunk style visuals and voice you make. Please keep making videos like these. You've inspired me as an amateur photographer to finally persue making more videos with aesthetics that I actually like (much like yours). 💙
I watch all of your videos without ever caring what they are about. True fanboy
I've just binged about 20 of your videos. Thank you. You have made a penny drop for me about photography and me trying to find my voice and style. Keep up the great work!
the production of EVERY SINGLE VIDEO i've seen for the past year are just immaculate bro i'm in love w your channel and how you present info
this has to be the best channel i've had the fortune to stumble upon. KEEP MAKING MORE BECAUSE THIS IS HILARIOUSLY GOOD. I WOULD GO TO A CINEMA JUST TO WATCH A NEW VIDEO OF YOURS.....
the luck we have man 😂
Your videos make me want to break free from the shackles of office life and go outside to take pictures.
That good GxAce dope early in the morning. No better way to start the day!
I bought this lens and a G1 by accident, as I travelled to by a Nikon F3 but missed it, they had this.
Absolutely Love it, got my Nikon F3 HP somewhere else another day but this lens is fantastic. Need a M BODY and this conversion now 🤯🥳
Come hang out with all the Replicants over at patreon.com/gxace for exclusive behind-the-scenes content and other awesome perks.
The bit where you're walking down that path while saying "I've been waiting for something like this for a very long time", really jived with me and I don't know why.
I feel like watching you from the future, Good Job!
Another incredible video.
Can’t stop watching your videos dude!!!
I think I never commented so often on a channel like on yours 😂 . But again. Your videos should be the absolute new standard for creators on RUclips, who take it seriously. The vibe, Editing, lighting. This is absolutely incredible man. Please keep it up!
Wow the effort that’s gone into this video is mind blowing 🤯
dude your videos are just so good. really happy when i see a new one in my feed.
Only now did I discover your channel. It is a breath of fresh air, love the aesthetic. Keep up the good work, you have gained a subscriber!
The video is mazing I'm lost between the scifi feel and the everlasting lenses
Just a plain and simple 'whoa' for your videos & reviews! Keep up your amazing work!
You are my best ever lens reviewer, I even see videos about lenses/cameras that I don't care about like this due to the insane production quality. Wonderful!
As always, your content quality is out of this world. Nice JOBBBBB!!!!
As amazing as always! thankyou for another banger
This is cinema-grade quality, keep it up!
This is a game changer. Thanks for the video
Well ... as always ... Perfect !
Absolutely love the ultrawide content! It looks stunning on my ultrawide monitor and its hard to find this level of quality camera work outside of feature films!
Your content is on another level, dig cyberpunk and cameras. I hope to see you expand your content to other things as well just because this is all so good and I’d love to see more.
This reminds me of that old game where the villian says "ALL YOUR BASE ARE BELONG TO US"
Quality of video on perfect level for me!
I'd like to recommend you a lens: Zeiss Pancolar 80mm F1.8. It's so gosh darn fun
I just love the whole cyberpunk aesthetic of your content, the robot voice sure is a nice touch. Please, keep up the awesome work!
production is fantastic holy.
Your work is insane, i follow you since the video that you made about the fuji xt3. I buy this one thanks to this video and now i build my society as a photographer & filmaker and start this one in few months. thank's for your work !! (sorry my english is bad ...)
Love your work and tone. I have the 50mm f1.4 Contax and there is something in how old Zeiss's render images that make them so unique.
Everytime I see your newest video you've shot up 10k views and my man it is so deserved!
I found you because of your fuji 35mm video and right after went on eBay and got one.
You no joke saved me from getting rid of my Fuji Xt3 and just going full modern with my A7r4. I had never had a fuji lens before that and was rocking an ef adapter on the xt3 and it just didn't feel fun if that makes sense?? But after I got as you called it "the only fuju lens you really need" WOW did everything change. I don't know why but it's like the title "there's something just special about this lens". Love all that you do, excited to see more!! My wallet is not though because you make me spend a lot of money🤣
I love the idea of swapping optical groups between systems. Definitely a rabbit hole I want to dive down now!
you are legit inspiring me lmao i love your video style so much
I wish they made such kit for G 90mm Sonnar. That paired with G45mm would be a great two lens kit.
Love your content so much. You’re a gem.
I appreciate that! Thanks so much :)
You are incredible maaaan! Love your perspective and aesthetics!
LETS GOOOOO GXAXE!
Beautiful
Commenting for the algo.
Gotta keep these magical videos coming.
Breathtaking video as always! im just so inspired to make content after watching your videos! 🙌
Thanks so much! I'm glad they've inspired you!
Ahh yes, another Contax Zeiss short film.
So cool you can convert these to such a universal mount.
legendary cinematography my friend.
My favorite camera system of all time!
That train picture what fucking phenomenal. I said, "What a great fckin picture." OUT LOUD in a room by myself. My first thought was that the lines were satisfying, but the subject was really out of focus. My eyes moved right to follow the lines to their point of conversion, and oh, there you are, the actual subject of the photo. A bright face, glued to the wonders of the world beyond the window. Almost if the glass is the only thing holding her back from falling right out of the train. I had to read that picture from left to right and I fucking loved it.
Man, I know little about cameras, but your videos make me want to learn more.
This is by far the highest looking production for a RUclips channel
High quality video as always
these lenses are soo nice, maybe one day I’ll get one 😂 fantastic video as always, big fan of your work Casey!!
I bought a black G2 and the 45mm f2 on a whim a few months ago and finally got my shots back this week and this lens is no joke and 100% is worth the hype. I just need Fujifilm to make a full frame cause this lens and their film sims would be a wild duo
the shot at 3:27 is easily in my top 10 images ive seen this year. love everything about your channel but you managed to outdo even yourself there 🙌
Yeah, I've watched this video a couple times since it was released, and each time I made a funny noise when this photo popped up. Stellar work.
I always enjoy your videos. I've never considered rehousing a lens until now lol.
Like every time a truly awesome ans inspiring video. I really enjoy to see content this often and watch it on my big screen. Often the videos inspire me to go out and shoot! THX!!! Maybe I should get one of those and one of the original Sony a 7S´s.
You video was freaking beautiful, instant subscribe.
Damnn first time seeing ur video blows my mind away. It's just so incredible
these videos are just soooo good, you just wait
you will reach 1mill one year, top
keep up the aesthetic, I love it even though I don't know single shit about camera
Really cool product. I shoot that lens on my G1 and it is one of the nicest ever made as you noted. I don't own any M mount cameras, but it's nice to know that in the future there's another option to keep the lens in use. Maybe I'll pickup a non-Leica M camera when that day comes.
After buying a bunch of modern lenses and then being gifted some really nice retro ones I am on a retro lens kick. Recently purchased a projector lens that gives interesting renderings.
Have never used contax but looks great!!!
love your work, i've geeked out to like three diff friends about it
Awesome, thank you! That's super cool!
Please tell me where you learnt how to do sounddesign, because I AM IN LOVE. But all aspects of this video are perfect, the colors, the editing, the content, it's beautiful. Please never stop blessing us viewers with your content.
Another banger
Man your content is top notch. Glad i found your channel. You ever tried the otus line?
I shot on otus for years in a professional setting weekly and the bokeh is the most appealing out of all lenses i worked with.
It is a real art lens. They are heavy but worth to carry around without a question.
The 55 and 85 are my favorite.
Iam used to shoot anamorphics on a weekly bases but there is something special to the otus line.
The otus has a sence of 3D effect i've never seen before.
They are the most modern and clean optics with a ton of character hard to explain the rendering if you never put one on the front of your sensor. You move 1mm on the focus ring and the whole background changes.
Zeiss planar 45mm f2 is my go to lens and is my favorite lens ever made.
I keep it on my G bodies though.
These videos look better than the last 5 movies I have watched
I feel like you're directly targeting me with every video. I've literally been thinking about this lens the last few days and you come out with this film haha
The Contax G1/G2 came with some of my favorite lenses ever made. Unfortunately the camera itself gave me so many issues with focusing I had to let it go. I wish I could have every G lens in M-mount, but specifically the 16mm Hologon, 21mm biogon, 45mm planar and 90mm Sonnar. I love them all so much.
Good to know the G2 and RTS3 I just bought won't drag their lenses to the grave when they inevitably, tragically, die.
Good God these videos...films...videofilms are so satisfying. I'll never have these lenses but it doesn't even matter.
Thanks so much :D
Amazing content 👍
Thank you 🙌
This channel is DOPE.
Noice mate!
Just dropping by for the amazing quality and storytelling. I’m not even interested in lenses. Keep it up! And have a beautiful day
I see major resemblance of the xpro model, Or rather the other way around. I would totally Love one of these cameras!
Thank you for your amazing videos as always
Just wondering: when adding shims to reach infinity focus, how do you know when it is achieved? Is this a matter of trial and error and seeing if the image on the camera is at infinity focus, or is the visible without having to screw the lens housing together?
It's a trial and error situation. Pretty easy to figure out but does require you to take it apart a couple times to dial it in the first time.
this is just on a different level mate. although I don't own any of the equipment you show, I still watch your videos every time. may I ask, which film stock are you using for your photos?
The story telling is A1
This guy is the MelodySheep of Camera Gear reviewing... I actually had to look up to see if they were the same guy
hidden gem
OMG! You made a video where I already own the thing. Yay that means I don't have to buy a new thing, because these damn videos always pry my wallet open.
Ugh what a gorgeous lens. I love the rendering - would you say you get similar rendering with other Planar designs? Such as the ZM 50/2 or the Hassy 80/2.8
I would love to see the Contax G 90mm to M mount. I use this lens the most on my Nikon Z6 with a terrible lens adapter.
