Was just thinking the same thing watching this now, several days after buying a G2 with 28 2.8. Absolutely love that combo, and have now added the 45 f2. That halation on those light sources in his shot at 2:46 really is the icing on the cake of that comp for me.
I think its important to note that the G1 vs the G2 autofocus, yes they added the different autofocus options, but they added an IR focusing hardware for quick initial focus, and then the rangefinder style triangulation focus. the differences are really noticeable in low light. Either are fantastic cameras.
well, there's 6 lenses. My first setup when I bought this camera in the late 90's was just the 35mm and the 90mm. Which kinda covered everything I wanted. Then I added the 21mm. The 21 is like no other wide I've ever shot. I've always avoided the 28mm in general (like in all cameras, not just this) because it seems like the most generic wide lens. I think the iphone field of view is 28. The 45mm I've never owned... pretty standard. Wouldn't mind getting one. I've always loved the 35mm on this cam though.
Hi just got a g1 this week. What f-stop did you use for that portrait shot? It looks very sharp. Your photos look great by the way. Hope mine turn out as good as yours. Thanks for the great review.
Is the G1 could be a good camera for everything? Travel, landscape, nature, portrait, night. I'm really looking for a good rangefinder that will be my main camera. Thanks !
Hey man really like your Vedios, could you give me some guide on how to focus on this camera. As I just had some rolls shoot on this, unfortunately all my shoots get out of focus😞, any help would be great. Thanks
Could you make an in-depth video on how to work with the camera/ autofocus. The Zeiss 45/2 has also some field curvature. How do you deal with that, especially when doing portraits?
@@FocalCollective wow quick answer. I am looking at the G2 and G1 right now. I love film but I try to travel light from now on... I ususally travel with 40lbs of camera gear to various destinations and this needs to change lol.
+oliver Lison I don’t understand why people pay so much more for the g2 it’s such a minor improvement in autofocus yet g2 kits going for 2k+ . I would highly highly suggest the g1. It’s an older electronic camera so never know when could stop working. I picked up my G1 kit for around $550 on eBay with the lens.
@@FocalCollective You are right on that. If you want to spend money on a G2 with lens, then save up a few more hundred bucks to get a Leica M6, which has less electronics built-in. However, the G2 has undergone a huge upgrade. 4fps instead of 1FPS on the G1, and a max shutter speed of 6000/sec instead of 2000/sec. I don't mind because I like my Nikon F3HP and it tops out also at 2000/sec. A G1 @ $550 seems to be right for a minty one. G1 kit = G1 body + lens 2/45mm?
+oliver Lison ya kit is body and lens. Might even be a little cheaper with something like the 90mm 2.8 . For me the max shutter and FPS aren’t huge because I don’t shoot a lot of moving subjects. Film latitude is good enough that I can shoot 1/2000 a lot of times like 2-3 stops over exposed and it’ll turn out just fine.
Hi my son just bought the g1 with the 45 lens. We have a problem with the aperture ring that doesn’t move. Is there a problem or something I missed ? Thanks for your help
Couldn't stop watching the squirrels running up and down the trees 😂
they're zany animals haha
2:46, what a glorious image man!

The added cost of g2 for that is insane. When the g2 used to be under 500 bucks yea, get the g2.
Just bought one from a vintage camera shop yesterday, fantastic find. It was a fantastic price.
+We are the Unknown it’s a great camera!
Nice Video - G1 is likely my next purchase hopefully with all 3 lenses. Thanks for the info.

now this is a real and useful review. nice, thanks.
+juan carlos taranilla no problem!! Glad you liked it
Like the nicely detailed video. That NYC Taxi photo was probably taken with a Cinestill 800 Film, or maybe was it another Film Stock ???
Squirrels!
+matteovrizzi hahaha yesss
I thought the same thing. The video subjects jump around and not complete. Very Squirrel like
Squirrels @ 1:44 😊
nicely filmed dude
Love this video, simple!
NEEED a contax!!! Great video, man!
+Grainy Days yessss!! It’s my fav camera for 35mm . Thank you, any other videos you’d like to see in future?
@@FocalCollective Would love to do a video with you, perhaps we both shoot themed shots and compare?? Might be fun.
+Grainy Days dm on ig! I like the idea let’s discuss more !
@@FocalCollective dm'ed you! @bazooka_mouth
Excellent
Mark Mackoviak thanks legend!
A couple will be out of focused
*Shows a married couple out of focus
We warned ya! 😂
thank you for this video , very informational and straight to the point.
How do you feel about it almost a year later?
Feel the same, still a great camera!
Really need a separate optical viewfinder otherwise this is a perfect camera set up.
thanks for the feedback!

+Stephen Carton pretty sure most the portraits are wide open at f2! Autofocus is pretty good with the g1
+Stephen Carton thanks ! Most of these are shot at f2 or f2.8!

+Musoka yes! I think with the lens selection for it and it’s small compact size it’s perfect for an everyday carry to do everything!
Thanks!

I’ve been trying to manually focus mines but I’m a little intimidated by it any advice?
What do you think about the lcd bleed issue ? Is it very often ?
hasn't happened since!
@@FocalCollective g1 or g2 ?
I've got two G-1 bodies that I bought used in 2005 and, to date, neither of them has a lcd bleed problem.
Hi looking at this and Konica Hexar AF between them? Ur thoughts?and any other 35mm do u Reccomend? Mainly do portraits and street photos
+William Sheridan i think the contax ! The contax Zeiss lenses are famous for their characteristics in portraiture
Is your G1 with white label or green label? As your opinion, which one do you prefer? Thanks!
I bought a green label cause I also bought a 35mm f2
Hi! i have a problem with the 45mm lens, when i get focus close, the lens make weird noise. It is normal?
We’re not sure! Could be something with the focus motor!
Diffeence between G1 and G2 is the lenses the G2 can use...nothing more.
