Always has been it is just publicized more now. In the1950's there was a major shoot out at 16th and Broadway between Denver Polic we and "Mad Dog Sherbondy happened in the afternoon". There are many, many examples of police and criminal shootouts in Colorado over the last 70 years. Just not sensationalized like today.
