This chase demonstrates why you shouldn't just passively allow a deranged maniac driving 140 MPH to spend hours on your freeways and boulevards without intervening, under the pretense that you're trying to look after public safety. If you want to serve and protect the community, disable the vehicle as soon as possible. CHP just let this guy wreak havoc all over the city and the vehicles and pedestrian that were hit were unnecessary casualties of not just the crazy driver, but awful police policies.

Rules of engagement - Perp may be armed. Many departments have similar rules that must be followed to prevent injuries to officers and innocent bystanders. It is easy to judge after seeing the final outcome, but in real time things are seen differently.
Just to give an idea of how ridiculous California is, if you are caught with a hit and run and a death or serious injury occured, it's only 2-4 years in federal prison. If someone was hit but minor injuries, it's only 6 months. These laws are made to aid criminals.

The suspect should have been the recipient of several hot lead deliveries both when stopped by the truck and when he hit the pedestrian! If perps know that if they run the outcome is unalive then I bet there will be much fewer chases!

Someone need to explain to the reporter the difference between race and street tires. Race tires are designed to sustain much more heat than street tires, in this case the driver was often driving over 120 mph, this will over heat the tires and they'll start to fall apart, most likely what happened here as I didn't see any cops at any corners with spike strips.
