I love the maturation of Sam's writing. his solo performances sound just as good as they did 20 years ago. wish he would do a record like this where it's only him and guitar with no extra adornment. I like a lot of the stylistic choices he makes with the band but it feels like sometimes the impact of the song is lessened because you're focused too much on the different musical elements on parade.
His new album is fantastic. I saw them live, and it was the worst mixed show I've ever heard. Such low volume the house A/C unit and crowd talking drowned the whole band out. The sound mixer said he needs to sing louder. Quite ridiculous. I hope he doesn't tour with that guy.
