I'm always baffled by SubPop's willingness to share their music freely on the internet. Then again, I've now bought three of their streamed albums, two on big ol' fancy vinyl. So it's working.
Yep, I have this one on vinyl and am damn happy to have a stream handy to play at work. Quid pro quo between artists and fans does wonders for artists and the industry,
I honestly think this is his best album. It may not have all the bells and whistles of previous albums, but the songs are all so beautiful in their simplicity. Really speaks to his ability as an artist that 20 years into a successful music career he can release his best work.
I had a dream last night that I went to the record store and bought this album, and that's what I did today. It's been on a continual loop ever since...
In some of my most hopeless times, Iron & Wine is such a comfort. When I'm scared for the future, feeling like it's not worth continuing, I turn on one of his albums. It truly makes me feel that maybe there is some hope, some reason to keep fighting no matter how hard the world wants you to lay down and die.
I mostly listen to more brutal stuff, Avatar, Amon Amarth, The Unguided, stuff like that. Clicked on this because I thought it was metal due to the name, and at first I was like "WTF is this..." But now I'm halfway through listening to the album and just can't stop listening to it. It's so soothing and calming. Definitely a new fan, and will be doing what I can to show support.
:) I loved reading this. I've always been a fan of lots of different types of music, mostly fasted paced edm, hip hop, rap, rock... A few yrs ago I stumbled upon Iron and Wine and realize how much it was needed in my life,. It's so calming and transcending. I was lucky enough to see them last night on stage. Hard to believe it's possible but they're even better in person. Lucky us to have found them huh :)
Janine Petrovic I used to be a Slipknot kind of person, until I discovered same few years back. Nowadays, I don't listen to a lot of metal anymore, but I still keep listening to Sam.
"There's no place to bury all the time that I've killed" - What a fabulous line 💖 For my sins I've not listened to I&W for 15 years, they've changed AND stayed the same, which tells me they've stayed relatively honest. - Keep it up, your music is *very much* appreciated! 😸_👍
I bet after he made this he just went to sleep and slept really, really well. I can't imagine changing a single note. So beautiful and w/just enough weirdness that we can both admire & relate. Nice. (And how he makes it look so so easy -- incredible!)

Sam thank you for this new album! I just lost someone I love and this album came out on their birthday. Their birthday was the day after we said bye. I feel like you put this out for me to help me deal with my family. I am thankful I had the chance to meet you a few years.
I'm just hearing this for the first time, and YES Iron&Wine is back to making making music that is Iron & Wine. Pretty cool that it's back on Sub Pop too!
I discovered Sam with Twilight, the song "Flightless bird, American mouth". From those days, all these years I just kept and kept listening. Never stopped, all his albums, all chords and different moods - his music grew so badly in my life. And when living I would suddenly remember his song that fits perfectly to that moment, as if I waited all my life for that particular second to play the song in my head. Now I wouldn't imagine my life otherwise. I so much experienced, thought, cried over these songs, I made memories and hopes and dreams. It's been a journey, it still is. I like to imagine myself in years time a fully grown ass responsible woman in her light and cozy house, late evening, still listening to one of Sam's albums and slowly dancing in the living room
Such a soft happy album. Great stuff. Putting out this many albums is no small feat, especially to make them all so different and engaging. Call it dreaming and about a bruise I think are my two favorites off of this.
Say it's here where our pieces fall in place Any rain softly kisses us on the face Any wind means we're running We can sleep and see 'em coming Where we drift and call it dreaming We can weep and call it singing 'Cause the sun isn't only sinking fast Every moon and our bodies make shining glass Where the time of our lives is all we have And we get a chance to say Before we ease away For all the love you've left behind You can have mine....be still my heart.
Good (and far more complete) point. I guess what I meant was roots in terms of more stripped down sound, core instruments, but still a more advanced landscape of sound.
In some ways, it is back to his roots. This sounds a lot like "Our Endless Numbered Days", which is probably Sam's most well known album, and one of his earliest. Most notably the lack of any electronic elements.
Well everything is better for you because you live in Washington. I live in the dumpster fire that is South Florida, but I agree a clear blue day in Seattle is wonderful
Samuel Ervin Beam somehow makes words rhyme with music. The songs are wonderful, the instrumental performances are great and the singing is magnificent!
Wait...left handed needlepoint? See you tomorrow night in Tucson, AZ! You and the amazing musicians that you attract like a magnet have inspired me for a long time. I've played on that stage and it makes the live experience much more clear and educational. Thank you for your art, dedication and visiting us out in the desert. J
In Thomas County Law, "There are castles for kings, there are birds without wings" is an elegant way of saying "There are castles for kings, there are pen -fucking- guins"
Got it... 'Bitter Truth' is REALLY close to a slightly sped up 'Ripple' by the Grateful dead. If you enjoy 'Bitter Truth', you should check out 'Ripple'. It's a masterpiece. Moreover, if you like Iron and Wine and are unfamiliar to the Dead... then... then you are in store for a true gift.
Dear SubPop, Love the music! Quick question though: Have you guys ever heard of the 432 hz frequency? Please, if you haven't, look into it and help spread the word, encourage your artists to use this beneficial and music beautifying frequency when creating their art. Thanks!
Sam is criminally underrated , this man’s music speaks to my soul !!
Iron and Wine makes me feel like buying a house in the mountains and never come back.
Absolutely I'm there
you can do that! Plan and make it happen. I'm gonna retire in the smoky mountains (where I'm from) some day. And this will be my soundtrack.
I did!
Exactly

Came here to comment the same. There are a lot of close contenders but this album is just perfection start to finish with no weak points.
I had a dream last night that I went to the record store and bought this album, and that's what I did today. It's been on a continual loop ever since...

Not the first metal fan I've seen in Iron & Wine RUclips comments. There's a thread on another video comparing him to Tool. Interesting.
Totally!
I have no idea who those metal bands are but yes this music is quite beautiful and captivating.

Look at this angel voice, Sam you're the best! I always listen to Iron with a cup of coffee in the morning breeze.
Pedro Freitas the morning breeze? Lmao that's good stuff man
That sounds nice.

Such a sweet feeling to know there's a new Iron and Wine album
Such a soft happy album. Great stuff. Putting out this many albums is no small feat, especially to make them all so different and engaging. Call it dreaming and about a bruise I think are my two favorites off of this.
i was so waiting for another album of iron & wine to come out... and it finally did. Right before finals week. this is Godsend.
Say it's here where our pieces fall in place
Any rain softly kisses us on the face

We can sleep and see 'em coming

You can have mine....be still my heart.
Somebody just got bumped off my 20 greatest albums of all time list
His music helps me through all my physical and emotional pain. Thank you for all that you do.
Finally...back to the roots. The prodigal son returns. We've been waiting for this Sam. Good to hear / have you back.
Good (and far more complete) point. I guess what I meant was roots in terms of more stripped down sound, core instruments, but still a more advanced landscape of sound.
You can really hear his difference in styles on "Around the Well" between the two discs.
In some ways, it is back to his roots. This sounds a lot like "Our Endless Numbered Days", which is probably Sam's most well known album, and one of his earliest. Most notably the lack of any electronic elements.
Such an amazing opening to this album! So glad to hear him getting back to the old sound. I only wish the songs were longer.
There is no way to truly accurately encapsulate in words the magnitude of these songs ❤
i love the instrumentation on this album. and as always the lyrics.
This is Iron and Wine's best album.
Thanks Sub Pop guys!!!!! For streaming, and for the best music this year so far....... you are epic beast!!!!!!!!! :)
I went to the shows in NYC and Brooklyn a few weeks ago, I have the Beast Epic Tee. I LOVE YOU Sam.
David Rios me too! Was amazing
This is so beautiful, and makes me want to cry.
So many great songs on this album. "Call it Dreaming"-such a great song. Love the video 💝 "The Truest Stars We Know"- very beautiful 💝🎶🌌 ~

Oh gosh... it's there already. This will be an emotional journey :)
Mojo a part of us knows where
Just woke up to the new album on a rainy day (':
Well everything is better for you because you live in Washington. I live in the dumpster fire that is South Florida, but I agree a clear blue day in Seattle is wonderful
whenever i hear 'call it dreaming' , damn , its like someones cutting onions up again .
Way to go Iron & Wine! This is a great album. I love the down-to-earth feel with moments of quarky additions. Keep releasing quality music Sub Pop!
This is on my daily list of albums to listen to. So good.
Samuel Ervin Beam somehow makes words rhyme with music. The songs are wonderful, the instrumental performances are great and the singing is magnificent!
Sam Beam is a national treasure!
Thanks.. your music has helped with my anxiety :)
I think About a Bruise is my fav on this one. Just something about it sweeps me up.
REMINDS ME OF OUR 60'S FOLK MUSIC...........
Lovely set of songs here. Always a treat to hear new stuff from Sam. See you in Vienna later this winter!
Outstanding! Outstanding album! It's one of my favourite now.

"The Church Bell isn't kidding when it cries for you"
Good god this album cover. So good. Can we buy this needle point? I might just have to get my grandma to replicate it though.
Taylor Salvetti I want it sewn onto a sweater
but he's playing the guitar left handed?? what's up with that?
he is blind folded...maybe it is suppose to have a back story...I mean, don't they all
ChrisandDanielMusic people play left handed...
Steven Wyant well Mr Defensive Lefty, Sam Beam doesn't. That was clearly their point.
album maravilhoso. Obrigado pelo presente, Sam.
I&W is one of my favorite bands. Who's listening in Mexico City?
Yooooo, super fan.
It's not a band, it's a man.
Ismael Funes Sam Beam 😍
me caes bien :)
Saludos desde Puebla!
chingón! saludos de zacatecas
Reminds me a lot of Gregory Alan Isakov, beautifully evocative music
I hear the echo of John Lennon's voice through the lead singer's voice Samuel "Sam" Ervin Beam.
Sheila Calabrese Love Gregory Alan Isakov, possibly why I’m addicted to this track too. Have a lovely day ♥️
@Jordan Davenport Gregory covers iron and wine songs, not the other way round. Sam is a master at this stuff
The same thoughts here, Sheila.
@@ph-vf5hx Cuz he knows what's good. He does Sam justice too.
The best album ever of new age to Iron & Wine :D I Like it so much. It's pretty good
This is so beautiful! Thank you! Best from Costa Rica!

thanks for the response and glad that you are planning this :)
is it possible doing some editing and adding lyrics to the masterpiece ?

With "Song in stone" I entered the church on my wedding day.
