Lots of great suggestions in the comments. I would add “I Love You” live at the Greek Theater. Great example of how emotional her live performances are. The official videos for “When the Party’s Over,” “Idontwannabeyouanymore,” “You Should See Me in a Crown, “Your Power,” “Everything I Wanted,” and “Hostage” are good songs with great creative use of video. She’s such a compelling and talented artist that I’m always excited to hear & see what she does next. I also love the way she and her brother work together. It’s a special connection and it shows in the music.

There are only two songs on her discography that are written entirely by Finneas: Ocean Eyes (when he was 17) and When The Party's Over (when he was 21) (Edit: There's a third one: My Strange Addiction)
However, I really suggest listening to When The Party's Over next. I don't want to hype it before you hear it for yourself, but it's a great song with a great video created by Billie.

Billie had been studying interpretive dance when her older brother Finneas asked her to sing this song he wrote, he didn't feel he could get the vocals right. and knew she had the better voice. He plays ALL of the music. And it just took off. He was 17 when he wrote this, she was just shy of 14. She turns 20 this week. HAPPY Birthday Billie !! Again Thank You for this. Check out her performance of No Time To Die live at the Brit awards.

It's always a little startling when one hears a 13 year-old with such an adult voice and grown-up phrasing. The number itself is kinda poppy but her voice shines out. The song is a good composition as well.

Billie is very much a visual person as well. She directs all of her videos now and they all really add to the songs. And I agree with the other commenters that you need to watch When the Party's Over. She also have a song with Khalid called Lovely.

Finneas wrote this song, not Billie - he wrote it for his band, the Slightly's, but his sister singing it, was much better. If I were you, I'd listen to the "Don't Smile at me" EP; then "When We All Fall Asleep, Where do we go". I'm 13 days short of 68 and I trust my intuitions about Billie and Finneas - they aren't run-of-the-mill. She is, I believe, a phenomenon, based on her authenticity, her gifts and her
unique vocal qualities, and having a brother who is a production guru and also a gifted writer - they are a team. Why not immediately listen to Billie singing "Sally's Song" from Danny Elfman's "Nightmare Before Christmas" (Oct. 29, 2021, Los Angeles) or "NO Time to Die" [ Live from the Brits, Feb. 19, 2020 ] written by Billie and Finneas for the last Daniel Craig, "James Bond" movie, "No Time to Die" - If you check out the latter, Hans Zimmer, one of the greatest movie composers is conducting the Orchestra and orchestrated the song, along with Finneas, et. al. Then try "Bury a Friend" the music video, "Bad Guy" ( the music video ) - she's 17 for those. I like all of Billie's music without the videos, but the videos are intriguing and creative - the one for her title track of her sophomore album "Happier than Ever" directed and imagined by Billie Eillish entirely - that one "Happier Than Ever" ( the music video ) shows Billie integrating a couple sides of herself - the balladeer, jazzy singer, and new for her fans - a more driving rock style. For those of us who follow Billie, the 2nd half of "Happier Than Ever" was jaw-dropping. Each half of that song was 2:29 long.

I am I big Eilish fan. She’s done so much, but this is still my favorite song. (Finneas wrote it, by the way.) Same with Aurora. The song she wrote when she was 12, Runaway, is still my favorite, though all her songs -from 2015 and from this year - are terrific. She is, like Angelina Jordan (who is almost 16!), Norwegian.Check them both out Daniel if you haven’t yet. Angelina has been singing since 7 so it’s already a deep rabbit hole. Her cover of I Put a Spell on You (age 9), will blow you away! She is now writing her own songs. The one she wrote for her granddad after he died is beautiful!

Billie and her brother Finneas are musical wizards. Billie is hypnotic. Always has been. Finneas produces all her music. They always work together. They’re already working on music for her next album! lol they just dropped her latest album at the end of July. Don’t smile at me was an EP..when we all fall asleep was her first actual album.

Love how genuine your reactions are. Huge Billie stan here but also just got into her stuff earlier this year.
I highly recommend listening to her albums, in order, all the way through. When she released both of them, she encouraged listeners to play the songs in order as that is how she intended them to be heard. Don't forget about the EP.
As someone else commented, I would definitely just listen to the music first and then watch the music videos after for the full effect. Another cool thing about Billie is that she always has visuals in mind when writing songs. A lot of her music is meant to go with a visual. In her documentary (would love to see a reaction to that!) you can see her organic creative process from concept to final production of the When The Party's Over music video. The way her mind works is insane.

She has a lot of hits and the collaboration between her and her brother is really a nice backstory. Talent is there for sure and the writing is pretty good as well. She certainly doesn't seem like a burn out and fade away star. She absolutely has a future, but to me, what I've heard sounds very similar. Open to more but still no major click with me yet. And I can't blame it on a generational thing because my daughter enjoys her music and I enjoy other bands she likes such as 21 Pilots so I'm going to just say Billie still has yet to clicked with me to where I would seek her out to listen.
    Enjoyed your reaction. Thanks.

@@georgewodicka4839 Hello there George. I was trying to be nice regarding Billie. I think I was critical of her somewhere along the way maybe it was here or another Channel and I was the odd man out... so I figured I must have missed something... and perhaps should give her more listens as I have only limited exposure to her hits. As I said my daughter seemed to think she had a lot going for her especially for being so young and she had read a lot more about her than myself so I have been giving her the benefit of the doubt...

@@daveking9393 Most, not all, music post 2010 falls into the trap of a degree of artificialness. Mostly through mixing, autotune, too much technology in general. While she certainly has talent, I can't get by the trap.

Lots of great suggestions in the comments! I suggest going in chronological order, this EP and then the debut full length album When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?. I think listening to full album straight through without music videos first is how I'd personally go so I could focus on the music and lyrics, then watch the music videos as a separate but adjacent piece of art. Then get into the new stuff. Just my two cents!
Also I hope you get back to Nightwish at some point ... Really was loving your breakdowns on those! 🤘🏼 Keep up the good work!

Billie has synesthesia and has strong imagery associated with the song she writes so you’ll notice that on your journey..
I mentioned on your last one but you’ve gotta do “when the party’s over.” Also “bury a friend,” “lovely” with Khalid, “idon’twannabeyouanymore,” “xanny,” “hostage” … definitely at some point the full album When We All Fall Asleep…

Ocean Eyes was entirely written by Finneas but he did not like his vocals so he asked Billie to sing it. "Napalm Skies" was their mother's contribution to the lyrics.
Ocean Eyes was the third song they uploaded to SoundCloud. The first two were apparently duds. According to Finneas they had already written over 300 songs by the first upload. At one weak moment in an interview Billie had mentioend they had probably written over 1800 songs at home.
I mention these facts just to show that success is not that overnight as we come to believe. These two siblings have been writing nearly all their lives.

Hey I'M on SoundCloud! 😂 I've fallen more and more for her music. I was the same way: thought she was was a shock-pop artist and wasn't interested in that. I watched her carpool karaoke episode and heard her ukulele song '8.' It was beautiful 😍 her newer stuff is so mellow - I love how she slips into different styles like billie bossa nova is mysterious and cool.
