This is a song Finneas wrote for his band. He was 17 at the time. She was 13 when it was recorded. They posted it to SoundCloud bc her dance teacher asked for a song for a dance performance. The video was a gift from her family for her 14th birthday and was recorded the day after she turned 14.

The "choir" Is Billie harmonizing with herself. When they do layered vocals she sings all the parts. Nothing is done electronically. If you hear her voice then she is singing the part and they don't use pitch correction. She just sings the piece until they are happy with it. It's a ton of work but it's one of the reasons she is so good live.

When she performs this live she is singing the background vocals and the crowd the main. It's absolutely beautiful.

One of billie's songs called "when the party's over" has a music video and it's so painstakingly heartbreaking. It's filmed in a white room and is very simple as she's just sitting down on a chair the entire time, however the way she expresses her body, her facial expressions, and just the overall vibe makes me feel like crying. It has a dark element to it and for anyone who has experienced depression or anxiety will be able to understand the music video without anyone needing to explain anything. You might be interested in checking out her song "bury a friend" as it's quite creepy and alluring. It has some horror and thriller woven into it.

I’ve always interpreted “diamond mind” as something beautiful/deep that is created under pressure aka abuse or toxicity. but at the end of the day the stress and pressure of the relationship created this wiser version of her and the ability to see through others efforts to treat her the same way in the future.

Billie was home schooled, her assignment in music class was to write a song about a show ,she chose, The Walking Dead.
She was about 11 or 12 years old .It's called,( FINGERS CROSSED. )
.her brother is 4 years older and he did the music with her in his bedroom.
There are two songs with the same title, so make sure you get Billies .
I believe you will be surprised that this was done before she was a teenager.

Bad guy was on her first album 'wwafawdwg', ocean eyes was her debut single and she put it on her ep 'don't smile at me' so the vocals in this song are VERY different from her current vocals, she just keeps getting better with each project

Personally this is one of my favourite songs from billie despite how old it is and how young she was. Obviously her vocals are quite different compared to now but i absolutely love how chilling and beautiful she sounds. It feels like you're floating away on a cloud. Listening to this song on full blast with surround speakers or really good headphones makes you feel like you're in another dimension. I love this song. 💙

Billie is one of the best young artists in music today, theres a reason she won the big 4 Grammy categories back in 2020 (best new artist, record, song, and album)
I definitely recommend checking out the rest of her first EP "Don't smile at me" its not too long and will prepare you for her two following albums.
FYI. Billie did (and still does I believe) struggle with depression and many of her tracks have quite a dark tone, message etc.

Billie recorded this song when she was 13 and the video was filmed when she was 14. She's only 21 now! Oh, and any of the harmonies that you're hearing are all Billie. She sings all the different harmonies. The production on all her songs, whether it's just Finneas doing it or when Billie starts doing some of her own, is just phenomenal. One cool thing with Bad Guy. The snares you hear are actually the crosswalk beeps from when she was on tour in Australia for her extended EP Don't Smile at Me. She and Finneas loved how they sounded and Finneas worked his magic in the production. In the song Bury a Friend, some of the sounds came from when Billie was having her braces off and the dentist's drill was going. She recorded it to use later. She's definitely an artist to listen to with headphones so you don't miss the nuances of the songs.
Her brother Finneas is also a very talented singer in his own right, though his style is different from Billie's.

Finneas [Billie's brother, birthday a week from today - born, July 30, 1997] wrote this song for his band "the Slightlys", but thought it would sound better with Billie singing it - released on SounCloud, Nov 18, 2015 (Billie 13, Finneas 18); then on Interscope Nov. 18, 2016. This as others noted is on her debut EP "Don't Smile at Me" [August 11, 2017 - Billie was 15]. Your comments on sleep and where we go would apply wonderfully for "BURY A FRIEND" off of her debut LP "When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go" [abbreviated as WWAFAWDWG] - this album released on Mother Maggie's B.D. March 29, 2019 was rated as the 7th best debut album of all time by ROLLING STONE. Today, Billie's 15 year old dog, Pepper died and she is crushed by this loss - it's on her INSTAGRAM page. I'm a 69 year old fan. ON the "Don't Smile at Me" EP Finneas is also the sole writer for the song "WATCH".

Hi, i am back. Good reaction, ty. I love this song. It's my fav from her. She is a great singer agree but it's sad she doesn't love her voice as much as we do. She was 14 yo here as the fans below say. She is a very young star and pretty talented. That is why i looked into her. Everyone was talking about her low sound and her growing in popularity. And there was me who said who? 0.0 I am a casual fan but adore her. I don't vibe with all her stuff. But i totally vibe with her as a person. She has some trippy deep songs. Glad ur diving into her music. =0] Hugs. -NYC USA 2019 Army💟

Highly recommend looking up her performance on the Mahogany Sessions on RUclips. It’s beautifully recorded and acoustic. And is very early in her career. It features her and her brother and writing/producing partner Finneas with just a guitar.
As much as I dislike james cordon too, his car seat karaoke with Billie gives a lot of insight to her family dynamic and rise to fame. She takes him to her moms house to the bedroom where they wrote, recorded and produced a lot of their music including producing it from this little bedroom. It’s pretty cool.

At 5:13 in your video..those haunting vocals in the background is actually Billie singing the chorus..but in reverse. Like spinning a record backwards? You can find the vocal only version on RUclips somewhere and can hear it. Actually pretty genius if you ask me. To me it’s like the tide rolling back out to see. Like ocean waves. Not a lot of people know this. A lot of people just think it’s Billie improvising with just airy vocals. Not true. See for yourself.

Thing is finneas wrote this so I think maybe ur thinking too deeply. Finneas wrote this and felt Billie could sing it better and this was used in a dance performance that billies teacher asked her to do (Billie was a dancer before a singer but got hurt 😢)I think u will luv the album when we all fall asleep where do we go. And true this wasn't on that album. This is the first song finneas put on streaming and it blew up

What you said about feeling better after listening to a sad song. Yeah, you’re gonna like Billie’s music 😂. You said in your other video that you want to listen to some of her live songs - I genuinely recommend listening to albums from start to finish first. Especially when we all fall asleep where do we go. I think you’re going to enjoy that a lot. The album is less relationshippy than her EP, which I personally appreciate, and I would generally recommend listening to Billie’s lyrics through a more poetic lens for the most part. Sometimes things just sound good and add to the texture of the song and story, one can SENSE the meaning and implication rather than it being a clear cut metaphor. The word play and soundscapes and experimental and utter joy in the creative process is really what jumps out to me about their music

@@JimGames it is!! Halsey's pen game is insane, matched with Trent and Atticus's production it's just not what you might expect from her! Plus the concept is a very important message, the album is about the patriarch, motherhood and mental illness which is v pivotal at the time because Halsey wrote it when she finally got pregnant with their rainbow baby!!

If you are sufficiently unfamiliar with her debut album to think this song is on there (a fair mistake, no shame); then you absolutely should just react to that whole album. Her debut album blew me away; if you liked Rodrigo you should give it a full listen.
