- We caught up with High Horse Performance and one of the cars they're working on, a Dodge Demon that has a couple of modifications in place. This thing was pretty awesome in person and we think that you'll love it, too! While traction wasn't quite agreeing with the car completely, I think that it's safe to say that this wasn't bad for the first couple of passes on the car.

Skoor_ why does everyone think the trans brake changes the world? Did you hear the car breaking traction off the line? If he had used the trans brake it would have been 5x worse and he would have went slower.

I think it needs a taller rear tire, 28" minimum, even 30' or 31" then it will put the power down. Just a fact.
It takes time to test, tune and set up any high hp drag car. Also consider track conditions, tire conditions, ambient air temperature, humidity, and elevation.

For those asking about the 9.65 passes claimed by Dodge, I believe those were in a car without full interior, which this car did have. Keep in mind that these were the first shakedown passes in the car and it should get plenty faster. If there's anyone who knows what they're doing, it's HHP.

they started their search with more boost and a race fuel tune, it would have made more sense looking at traction, gear, and chassis tuning - these cars have enough power to run 9 flat, even as heavy as they are.
Getting back to that 9.65, rumors from Auburn Hills (not far from here) say that E.T. was at full curb weight, on a hand picked and fully inspected set of tires, a fully prepared track, the usual "touches" like 60p.s.i. in the front tires, iced blower etc., and a professional driver. Michigan is close to sea level and on many days has near perfect air - cool dense air.
That 9.65 isn't out of the question at as delivered weight.
I dont know. HHP tuned a friend of mines Hellcat and it went slower.

I wonder if the cmr made it slower I am tuned with Diablo and I feel like the way they tune leaves a little timing on the table so I wonder if that was the issue I'm not an expert tho and what was the da and altitude

This is really fast. The advertised time is 9.65s, but that is with a very experienced driver and perfect launch.

the E.T. tells three things, 1) these cars are heavy. 2) the hit is ALWAYS softer on any treaded tire than running on slicks. 3) it takes more than horsepower to run quick E.T.s
advertising numbers are always under Absolutely Perfect conditions.
The 140+ M.P.H. top end charge shows the car makes the horsepower Dodge claims it does.
A little education and work and this guy will be running 9 flat all day.

Mike this guy has a pulley and tune so tech the car is not 140+ like " dodge" claim buddy. None of these cars on race gas and pcm are hittn 140mph stock period point blank. No matter what tire they run. HP equates to mph. Suspension..weight and traction gives u ET. The guy clearly ran 10.95 at 140mph. Why is bc he still got the hp but he was lacking traction. These cars has real good short times bout as good as its gne get being the weight of the car. At 136mph bonestock they will never run 9s. Dodge lied..do not understand why that's so hard for some ppl to see.
No! First off, the title of the video said the car was modified. Secondly, if you're trapping 140ish, you aren't running 9 flat, period. Like ever. And finally, I don't know what videos some of you guys are watching, but traction isn't the problem.
Oh! and manufacturers almost never publicize performance numbers under ideal conditions!!! That would lead to lots of disappointment! You know the adage under promise over deliver. And I said "almost never" because I can't think of anyone other than the demon who's had perfect condition numbers publicized off the top of my head. Well, maybe Ford with the 01 Cobras.

Oh and a p.s. if you notice in this video the burnouts are longer and seem to be at a higher wheel speed that what they show in the dodge video. They even say tire temp of 200 if i remember correctly. So it seems these guys have over cooked the tires. It doesn't take much of a burnout to properly heat tires and they are very easy to over heat.

altitude and temperature matter alot and octane was the car cooled down bag of ice on intake after runs.Try running at night with 60 to 70 degree temp track looks a little slick also.

You're full of crap on the racing stuff. If you would have ever raced, you would know no one ever equals the pro's times in any motor sports. A ten second car in the hands of a pro is just that, A ten second car in your hands would be struggling to break into the 12's.
What you need to keep in mind is that the faster quarter-mile times that Dodge went in testing was in race mode. They were much lighter. We’re testing it in Street trim for the most part, all the heavy items such as the factory seats are installed. We are probably at least 300lbs heavier than they were. And this is our first track outing with the car. It will get faster with every trip to the track. We’re changing tires and going to see if we can get it to hook up first. That alone will drop several tenths off our time right away.

You have to remember that the Demon went 9.65 with one seat and no interior and trunk interior. Now this Demon is a complete car with interior, heat, radio, speakers ,carpet and probably something i am missing, He would gain at least a second or second and a half with all the extra weight.
has a stock ZL1 even got into the 10's yet? how's Ford doing? has the stang broke 11's yet?
As for the ZL1, don’t think so. You know what the difference is though? It will actually do the advertised time or better. It doesn’t need the seats taken out, racing fuel and skinnies. It can also still take corners at incredible speeds. It was never false advertised and it’s not a one trick pony.

MOST H8D you are right. I have researched it an it turns out the seats only equal out to be 113 lbs. The complete weight reduction available for the demon is only 232 lbs. lighter than the hellcat

I think that is a pretty cool car. Any reason why the car is not setup with real slicks in back vs the drag radials? That would be the first thing I would mod the demon with and it will more consistent vs any drag radials..

SRTMush has a Demon on E85 with a 2.65 pulley and some other mods, over 1000 horsepower.
There u have it mopar fans and owners a moded demon still can't hit those unicorn numbers of a 9.65 dodge only did it ones after trying more than 100 times in a perfect prep track perfect driver perfect conditions pretty much it will not ever happen again unless demon is heavily modified

They did that time in optimal conditions race gas ecm upgrade lightweight wheels and drag tires plus all seats delete only driver seats in mopars time run. Everyone just does the tires and only a handful have done the pcm. While the consistency of the 9.6 will be hard without the same track air temp and da but considering all the others a 9.8 should be acquired frequently when done properly as advertised.

Fun fact: the demon can actually go 0-60 in 2.1 seconds. Dodge advertises 2.3 seconds. So the car can actually go faster than 9.65

This car would put down a lot faster time if it left on the green light! Couple of those passes it looks like he was waiting for another color light! I really thought he was just concentrating on a good launch and getting a feel for the car and set up as opposed to E.T. Cause reaction time was not there
The reaction to the green light is a little delayed. This is why it’s slower than stock.
Current dodge demon is purely a consumer car for collectors looking to make a long buck. They combine comfort with sport to give the rider maximum satisfaction. 9.91 is really not that imressive considering the horsepower number. All the comfort tech in it makes it a freaking cow.
