Great presentation. As an old Vet who started his MRE journey on "Dehydrated Beef Patty" and "Dehyrdrated Pork Patty" in the old dark brown US MRE's of the 80's I have to say that MRE's have come a very long ways in improvements.

      Those patties were the worst.

Good vid. The "jam sandwich cookies" originated in german city of Linz, that is why it is called in the midle Europe "Linz circles".

I would do a major field strip of the meal.
Toss out what I won't eat and keep the rest.

Totally understandable, why keep the stuff you won't want/need on you? Extra weight you need to lug around! This is definitely one of the heaviest rations I've seen - can only imagine how heavy it used to be when it was all canned.

Yes it certainly was - I actually ended up packing a fair amount away and saving it to eat later due to the amount!

Opportunity missed. 31:12 Those should have been Peak Freans fruit cream cookies.

I joined the Australian Army Reserve in 1986. We were issued rations date stamped 1967 left over from Vietnam War. They were appalling. The chocolate was white powder held together with thoughts and prayers. The meat was bad and the Luncheon Meat Type 1 or 2 could be used in hand to hand combat. The Biscuits, Cereal were famous for shattering teeth. I am pleased to see they are now issuing ration packs that weren’t designed by the enemy.

Wow that sounds awful! Breaks my heart to see governments not treat those that serve with the proper respect. Edible and sustaining meals should always be on high up on the priority list!
