Hey everyone!
Thanks for stopping by! Hope you enjoyed this ration review, apologies for the length - there was a lot of food to cover! Most of it was pretty good, only a few things to nitpick, namely the sandy Proteo drink!
Anyway, hope to see you again! Have a great week.

Hey everyone! Thanks for tuning into another video, I hope you enjoyed it, and thank you for voting! This was a very good ration, while it was fairly simple, the quality was amazing and the size of the entrees are huge. The only thing I could see being improved is putting another drink in, perhaps a teabag or another coffee. Anyway, thanks again for stopping by! Hope to see you again soon, -Hap...

Hey everyone! Thanks for tuning in for another video, today I try out a 2021 US HDR Menu #1 aka beans and more beans! Canada IMP - Menu #21 - Turkey Strips with Orange Sauce
Thanks for the video of this MRE. 4:48 - Can you spare a square?
I'm South Alabama Cajun Creole, no you do not put cheese on Chicken Creole. You can put on any version or type of hot sauce and its expected to use something like Louisiana Brand, Frank's, Texas Pete's, Crystal, Tabasco, a few others like Trappy's. Way better to make that Creole or Cajun dish with less hot spices and let folks add the heat at the tableside.
Great review my friend
What made you want to eat an mre?
@@MyrriaM I actually tried a few when I was in army cadets growing up and always had an interest in military things. My best friend and I split on a case of US MREs back in 2019 which made me want to start making videos. Thanks for asking, have a great day!

@jeremy-zs9gu Hey thanks for the comment, my intention isn't really to compete with Steve I love his videos personally! There's quite a few ration review channels out there not just mine, we just do our own thing out of love for the hobby. Have a great day!

Great Video! Thanks!😄
Thanks for stopping by!
Gonna be A long one, LOL. I keep comments short. New ration, agreed. Nice. Sides and mains look good, friend. Lactose intolerant, forgive me on one item, LOL. Musli, i prefer dry over soupy. Some good points, some, if reviewing, i might pass on. Meals overall, are solid. Very nice meal overall. Glad you had fun, enjoyed most. Peace, John. Enjoy the hobby Brother.
Hey John, thanks for stopping by! Hope you have a great week :-)
Nice one man! Glad to see another fellow Canadian in the ration review game, if I can be of assistance or if you're looking for something you'd like to try give me a shout ok? Cheers!!
Thanks for stopping by and thank you for letting me know! Have a great day 😊🇨🇦
The can opener with the spoon on it is called a FRED. it stands for a Field Ration Eating Device. Just so you know for future reference 😅 thanks for the review.
I’m getting major Steve1989 vibes “Nice Hisssss”
Very cool friend. I hope all are well. Been A while since I had this ration. This will refresh my memory. Probably some components have changed. Glad you got A good FRH. That is rare, LOL, agreed. I had Bills Brew, with menu 17 , maple sausage patty this A.M. Made A good review. Your meal looked good. I might look for one next time at the flea market. For once, the price dropped on them in Kentucky. Glad you enjoyed your meal. Peace, John. Take care . Stay safe.
Hey thanks for stopping by! I've noticed the prices are starting to drop a bit too, a friend and I split on this case and we noticed it was also a bit cheaper than the last one we picked up. Take care as well, have a great day. 😀
Now I want tacos.
That's so cool. I have never seen a flameless heater for the food packets. I'm new to this.
Thanks for stopping by and welcome! Yes many countries and civilian rations do use them but not all! Canada for example does not include them in the actual packet - they are issued separately 😊
This looks way better than some of the older menus that came in IMP's... I remember the old "macaroni and cheese with peas" menu from the 90's.... Omfg it was disgusting... My dog wouldn't even eat it... 😂😂😂
I still remember my first IMP.... 2011 Salmon Fillet... oh man that was bad 🤢 Mac and Cheese with peas sounds just as bad too!
@@happycanuckreviews I never had the pleasure of the salmon... I ate most of the late 80's/early 90's menus when I was in the Royal Canadian Army Cadets... Lmfao
That would be a great ration to drop in a survival bag... The outer bag is an excellent water carrying bag...
It looks like a good meal. I like the description as a Chocolate Sugar Log, lmao. I'd agree that cheese seemed weird, but it would be good on crackers. I think sometimes you get PB if the entrée is lower on protein and you get cheese if it's laking calcium. I think there are macros games going on in how they arrange the components. Thanks for the video.
This is just a suggestion. I don’t like telling people you have to do this. You have to do that. Editing. What you have to show 15 to 20 minutes can be taken off of your video. I think you would get better responses more views if you shorten things up a little bit. I’m not saying it’s not interesting. What you have. What I am saying is you’re taking too long to show it Just my opinion I think you’d get better response by not taking as long I will leave it at that do what you want .
Hello! Thank you very much for the feed back I do greatly appreciate it! I've had a few mention this to me, in my newer uploads I have been doing a bit better at triming the fat off and getting right into it. I plan to have another 24 hour ration video up within the next week or so, that will be the true test at cutting the fat off! Thanks again for your comment, it means a lot you took the time to mention it - I'm always aiming to make a better watching experience 😊
Total Prepare, are excellent meals. Those FRH'S are awesome. I actually got burnt on the steam once. Unless changed, same candy, every time? Nope, still tootsie rolls, LOL. Wornick, sopacko, and, Ameriqual are the big 3 producers here in U.S. They all trade amongst themselves. Ameriqual, may have Wornick products, and vice versa. Same with Sopacko. They all get along. Rare, I know. Your meal looks excellent. Once or twice, the corn nuts snacks have been stale. Only complaint. The cheese can go on anything, LOL. Does here at least. In your case, crackers or nut, pretzel mix. You can overheat however. Being from Kentucky, I always liked Iced Tea. Since this hobby, I like hot tea as well. Cool meal. Glad you enjoyed most. Peace, John. P.S., the older rations, from Total prepare, are on my channel, besides the ones I gave as gifts. Take care, stay safe, Peace.
Haha yeah, pretty certain every menu in my case come with tootsie rolls! Great info on how the big 3 work, that is quite rare to see "competitors" work together like that! And yes I did notice that with the corn nuts, the single pack I tasted a bit off - metallic and stale. I'll check out your videos on them, very interested to see the older rations from them! Thanks for stopping by!
Those chocolate bars always looked like that. Low moisture chocolate with copha and milk powder to rehydrate in your mouth but not melt in your pack in an Aussie summer.
I've never seen one of these before. There is a lot of stuff in there with two drinks, a main and a snack. Looks good to me. Some cheese and hot sauce would be great additions. A lack of gum and a dessert item. A candy bar would have been good. Thanks for the video.
Yes gum and hot sauce I definitely think they should look at including going forward - wouldn't be costly additions and I could see it getting a lot of love! Thanks for stopping by, love seeing you here!
That pizza looks pretty good to me. It seems a bit small though. How many calories is this meal? Oh, jalapeno cheese spread on Italian bread. I'd have to squirt a bit of that on the pizza.
It is quite small! I believe most of the calories come from everything else in the meal. If I recall correctly there is about 1200 calories in this meal - only about 280 come from the pizza slice itself. And yes I wish I had saved some cheese for the pizza!
Yum, yum. Right? '93 is a bit after my time, so I didn't have this exact MRE. I don't think the versions I had included the lemonade. Pork or beef, I really liked the MRE BBQ flavor. I did like the beef more, because it had the cheese spread, but after that the grape jelly was good. I was always happy to have some coco powder as I would then pour in the creamer and stir in a bit of water and have chocolate pudding. Did you heat the pork up or eat it cold? And no, the applesauce is not normally that dark.
I did hear up the pork for this one, I briefly boiled the pouch but I did not boil it for long - I've run into the older retort pouches leeching a metallic taste into the food if you boil them for too long. I mainly experienced that with older Canadian IMP pouches but I just assumed all retort pouches would act in the same way. Thank you for the info on the apple sauce, I appreciate it.
@@happycanuckreviews interesting, I didn't know there could be an issue heating them. I usually just ate them cold
Finally, youtube shows me a small channel that actually aligns with my interests. Thanks for the content!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for tuning in 😄
I have tobasco from before. What will you trade?
Hello! I do actually have a few of the tiny glass bottle tobasco put away on display. I appreciate your offer though! If you are ever interested in selling or trading I have my email address linked to the about section on this account - RUclips might have hidden it behind a button to "See business email".
Honestly, MRE reviews like this are the best to watch when eating, I swear i'd even say they're better then MUKBANG's!
Thank you for such kind words, it means a lot! 😁
@@happycanuckreviews No problem!
Heat up the cheese as well next time, that’s what I did and it makes a difference.
I'm fairly certain I have had this one or might have it on my ration shelf. I have a few more MREs from 2019 to get through. Looked like a good menu though. Definitely a lot of protein in there. Eww Date Square - my enemy. Maybe I'll have to warm it up next time. Thanks for the video!
Yeah I'm really starting to hate the date squares, they seem to get drier and drier every time! I find warning it up helps a bit... but only a bit!
Uh p
It certainly was fun to watch! Greetings from Botswana 🇧🇼
Thank you very much!!
video starts at 16:00 for tasting for a single serve
Thank you for your feedback I will keep it in mind going forward. I have added chapters to this video to make the sections clear to viewers and will continue to do so going forward.
where do you get your imp's? and if you mix the orange sports drink and the vanilla drink mix it is kinda sorta orange creamsicle-ish.
That's a great idea, I never thought to do that - will definitely try that next time! The one in the particular video I got from my local surplus store but they unfortunately haven't gotten more in since the start of the Ukraine war as they donate their stock.
@@happycanuckreviews ugh, ukraine.
"I prefer to do it from the back." Me too, buddy, me too.
When I was editing I was wondering if someone would catch that 🤣
The condensed milk is for the coffee and the crackers for the cheese
Huh... There's no MRE Heater included...(in USA Meals-Ready-to-Eat there is a chemical heater pouch that is water activated) Matches, Really... they expect the soldier to light a fire in the field to heat their meal. How inconvenient.
Many, many rations include fuel and a camping stove instead of a flameless ration heater like MREs do. In times of absolute need, rations are generally designed to be edible (but not palatable) cold and uncooked; soldiers with camping stoves or using other heating methods (for example, I believe some vehicles include boiling water for preparing rations) is the standard for ration prep across the world. Canadian IMPs are designed to have the mains boiled in a water bath over a stove, and soldiers are provided separate gear for heating water. And if need be, Canadian soldiers are provided flameless ration heaters I think, but I'm not sure on that. Even American MREs come with matches to heat water to boil.
It is a bit strange isn't it! The Canadian military does provide heaters but they are issued seperate, still quite inconvenient as now they're loose in your bag rather than all self contained in the ration. Also run the risk of it getting damaged more easily. I believe there is plans to include them within the next few years as the new style IMPs have slimmed down quite a bit in weight. They forgo most of the cardboard and the packaging is now a similar plastic bag like the USA MRE rather than the heavier paper and foil bag. Here's hoping they go through with the plans!
From nova scotia
Hello fellow Bluenoser!
Sorry i met are you from nova scotia, i'm from N. - B.
I like your video very interesting
No issue at all neighbor, and thank you!
It’s supposed to be a chocolate protein powder not hot chocolate. It’s for protein purposes only. This little kid doesn’t stop talking! 😱
Hi, I'm sorry you feel that way. I see various other people try it in different ways - not just as intended, again apologies that this has upset you I just try to shake things up. Also I talk as it is a review and I try to style my commentary like the viewer is actually with me not just watching behind a screen. I understand that is not for everyone though, I have heard from many others that they do like this. As a final note I am not a little kid - I am married and in my late 20s. I would love to see you come back again, perhaps you'd like some of my other videos. If not, I appreciate the comment and I hope you have a great day!
Hey man! I dig the review, the boisterous tone to your voice had me! Excellent review, keep it up.
Thank you very much I appreciate it 😁
Good vid. The "jam sandwich cookies" originated in german city of Linz, that is why it is called in the midle Europe "Linz circles".
Oh wow, thank you for the little history lesson, I had no idea! Love learning new things 😁
I would do a major field strip of the meal. Toss out what I won't eat and keep the rest.
Totally understandable, why keep the stuff you won't want/need on you? Extra weight you need to lug around! This is definitely one of the heaviest rations I've seen - can only imagine how heavy it used to be when it was all canned.
I joined the Australian Army Reserve in 1986. We were issued rations date stamped 1967 left over from Vietnam War. They were appalling. The chocolate was white powder held together with thoughts and prayers. The meat was bad and the Luncheon Meat Type 1 or 2 could be used in hand to hand combat. The Biscuits, Cereal were famous for shattering teeth. I am pleased to see they are now issuing ration packs that weren’t designed by the enemy.
Wow that sounds awful! Breaks my heart to see governments not treat those that serve with the proper respect. Edible and sustaining meals should always be on high up on the priority list!
When I was a cadet in the 90s I was still being issued with Vietnam style packs.
Life savers, known as Polos in the UK 🇬🇧
Great presentation. As an old Vet who started his MRE journey on "Dehydrated Beef Patty" and "Dehyrdrated Pork Patty" in the old dark brown US MRE's of the 80's I have to say that MRE's have come a very long ways in improvements.
Those patties were the worst.
Seems strange that it lacks a cracker/bread component.
It is a bit strange isn't it. Another commentor pointed out they issue 3 of these per day, a breakfast, lunch and supper component - the crackers come in the breakfast ration!
Where did you get this?
This one I purchased from MRE Mountain, I am not sponsored by them or anything like that but please see the link below! They are on sale at the moment but only have 3 menus left in stock. mremountain.com/collections/foreign-mres-and-24-hour-combat-ration-packs/products/british-uk-24-hour-combat-operational-ration-pack-orp?variant=44601674189
Opportunity missed. 31:12 Those should have been Peak Freans fruit cream cookies.
Absolutely agree, love those cookies!
That was a lot of food everything looked really good
Yes it certainly was - I actually ended up packing a fair amount away and saving it to eat later due to the amount!
@@happycanuckreviews I tried the Vegemite in a civilian one I had and it was intense 🤣🤣🤣🤣
the fact there's 4 fruit drink powders and 1 energy drink powder probably means this particular ration came from the last runs designed to be sent to the desert although they are quite palatable they're mainly to mask the hot plastic smell and taste of canteen water the current ones meant for a cooler environment only have 2 fruit drink powders
No it’s a GP (general purpose) pack so intended for all environments.
