Well said! I have liked the Rolex brand for 40 years and own a number of its models. Over the last few years I have become tired of the flippers selling Rolexes for huge premiums and of ADs for trying to entice buyers only when they buy other models or brands. While no one can dispute the marketing ability of Rolex it is alienating itself from followers. The amount of hate on social media is surprising. The ridiculous premiums cannot be sustained and the bubble will burst. People will be left with expensive watches that do not rapidly increase in value or possibly reduce in value. There is no easy solution in a free market world but I find the brand a turn-off. Indeed I have been pushed towards other premium brands as well as microbrands where I have found a huge marketplace of well made watches at very affordable prices, and importantly, small manufactures who listen to customers. Once you get over the snob value of a Rolex, there is a world of wonderful watches to enjoy.
There’s so much hype surrounding this brand that when someone sees one it’s automatic that everyone thinks it’s fake, it’s a favorite of drug dealers and posers, then there’s the waiting list, it’s no longer a viable brand, I’ll go with something else.
This is a brutally honest and terrific video. The camera work is outstanding! I do believe that the $500-$2,000 range of watch offerings is now so strong, I consequently have no interest in Rolex. The brand turned a corner in the past few years and now, as you say, the sub has become its own form of currency. I am a scuba diver and would trust any number of brands to dive with me. Rolex is the brand that started the luxury watch craze they increase in value year after year because they go largely unchanged. A sub is my daily watch and I couldn’t be more happy with it, it’s not overly precious it goes with everything it’s iconic and subtle at the same time it’s the best all around luxury timepiece if you ask me.

Great points made. I agree with much of what you said. But, don’t ignore the point that the submariner is a fantastic watch that is one of the few high end mechanical sport watches actually capable of hard use. If someone wanted a collection of different watches, with maybe one Rolex, steel sports is such an obvious and strong choice. Rolex doesn’t do complications that well, and there are so many better choices for dress watches...but who does steel sports better than Rolex? Omega makes arguably a more advanced movement, but their watches aren’t as versatile in my opinion. In a collection of iconic watches, a submariner is unbeatable. The Nautilus, Aquanaut, Royal Oak, Overseas, Centagraph, Fifty Fathoms, etc. are all selling at astronomical prices. If you want a versatile and small collection, a submariner paired with any dress watch, and maybe a complication makes such an amazing three watch collection. 1. Patek 5205 2. JLC Reverso 3. Submariner / GMT / Daytona All bases covered.

He told me that every man needs a good watch that they can trust and that will project an image of professionalism. So, he wanted to send me into adulthood with such a watch. I’ve worn that Sub EVER SINCE. After 34 years of daily wear (all around the world from the Himalayas to the Arctic) and ZERO servicing the band failed. It’s currently at a Rolex service center getting a $3300 service including a new band. I plan on wearing it the REST of my life and leaving it to one of my boys. I refuse to play Rolex games. I been trying to get a second Rolex for over a year now. I gave up and bought another Omega, a Planet Ocean, and I’m very happy. The AD’s around me can lick my sack!
I'm in the same boat, I'm on an AD list for a SUb and I refuse to pay the uplift on the grey market. I'm now looking at the Omega planet ocean are you happy with yours
I’m very happy with my Planet Ocean. Probably my favorite watch and that says a lot. I’m sure the Sea Dweller 43 is slightly nicer (maybe), but it’s also twice the price and zero discount.
I just did a review on this watch yesterday. While I love the watch as a toolwatch that it is, the history it has and its achievements, my views are not far from yours, cheers my friend. LeoV
The best watch video ever.. This guy seems like a videographer with a true passion for watches!I’m a photographer and I can understand the professional work in the making of the videos! It’s a matter of time for this channel to grow a looot bigger! Congrats!
Agree that social media is the most toxic place for this but it's a real shame because it's such a good tool for the many nice people that are a genuine part of the watch collecting community and hobby. If you can cut through all the bs it's still great. I don't tend to care any more what people will think because I know I buy what I buy for the love of the watches. Nice video and really enjoying the shots!
Every luxury watch is a status symbol. Do you think that Patek is different? They just cost you more than a Rolex. Again, price for quality? You'll pay 50k for a Nautilus and the quality is excellent BUT IS NOT worth that price. If you want a good quality for price you buy a Casio. If you want at your wirst the most famous and iconic time piece of all times you buy a Rolex.
I own 3 Tissots a Hamilton Khaki and a few Orient dive watches. If I ever lot my mind and bought a luxury watch it would be a Tudor black bay 58 if they ever decide to offer it with a ceramic bezel.
I am the third category. I genuine love Rolex (have several), but suffer from the shame/modesty of owing one. Hey, hey side note, can you tell me more about the chair you have. Looks like a gaming chair, but would it make for a good ergonomic office chair for long hours?
Thanks for your video. Just to note something, what is happening now in terms of shortage of professional rolexes is solely due to authorized dealers practice. The watches are being distributed by Rolex as usual but these guys sell either to their VIP customers or sell it through the back doors to flippers or small shops who will sell it with massive over retail price. I am sure that some of these ADs are sharing some profit with these grey market sellers. Rolex can not control such practice unless they implement new strategies to combat this practice or simply by selling the watches by themselves directly to the end users.
I only buy my watches from my AD because I’m too afraid to buy a fake. I had no idea Rolex was such a big brand on social media. The other day a friend’s 17yo son saw my sub and said it was a nice watch. I said thanks it’s a Seiko, he responded with “what’s that?” Then he said I should buy a Rolex because he sees them on Instagram all the time and they’re nice. After that I showed him the watch and explained about the Submariner. He was pretty geeked out about it being a Rolex because it’s apparently just a “for show” brand on social media. I prefer when people don’t notice it’s a Rolex.
Thank you for your honesty and the great videos. I have long been a fan of the Submariner since the mid 80s when my future brother in law visited our home wearing a shiny new Rolex Submariner date. He paid $600. They go for a lot more in 2023! Keep the great videos coming. I love Rolex as a brand - I just am not happy that it's so hard to purchase them.
Brilliant video. Excellent content, concise and well delivered. I love the sub and I have a chance I’ll be called up for one soon but I am thinking of going for an explorer 36mm instead. Are the points raised here only valid for the sub or other models in the Rolex range too? I agree on other brands. So many timepieces from brands with great heritage.
This was a bold video for you to make and I loved it!! I’m the poor colector trying to get into Rolex because of the watch and not the BS that comes along with it. Keep it up brother!
Straight to the point, I’m on a waiting list for a submariner no date and if one day I’ll be able to buy it from an AD I will be very happy, if not in the meantime I’m wearing my San Martin SN-019G and I really enjoy wearing it without being afraid I’m going to be robbed for the watch, nice ranting video, and keep up the good job, looking forward to seeing more of your reviews! Regards
It’s a gorgeous watch and is so slim on the wrist. If I get the call to pick one up, I’ll be absolutely thrilled. I’ll have no intention of selling for a profit, I just love the watch.
Great video and spot on. I bought a no date Sub in the early 1980's and sold it to buy one of the first versions of the new style Seamaster. I'd paid about the same for the used Sub as the brand new Seamaster fifteen, or so, years later. I liked the Sub but loved the Seamaster. It was before all the manufacturered media hype around Rolex. I haven't and never would buy a watch to please anyone else or as an investment or a particular piece because it retains its value. To me the sub is a well very well made production line watch that looks like any other generic dive style watch. A large majority of people who buy Rolex aren't knowledgeable or particularly interested in watches but buy them as a status symbol. They view them as the pinnacle of watch making because they've never heard of PP, ALS, etc and if they had wouldn't buy them because their peers and contemporaries haven't heard of them either and wouldn't be impressed by them.
Why would they need to be bothered when everyone is making money from its brand? i think the only one who perceive it as a desperate sad game are those who could not manage to jump onto the hype/bandwagon. It's a sour grapes to them you see.
@@Touyoujin because brand perception is everything to a brand like Rolex. They are a overpriced product when you factor in the quality against the price but the brand is sought after and they’ve created a demand greater than their production. I personally wouldn’t one now as I don’t like the way they’ve become a status symbol watch more than a watch enthusiast watch. I’m not alone in thinking this and their will be a point where the hype/bandwagon will come to a end. When it dose Rolex will be bothered.
The quality of this piece cannot be denied. I just got the call from my Rolex AD and am over the moon with this iconic timepiece 🙂 New design is amazing!
You speak from my heart. I have a Rolex but I almost always wear a different watch. Why, because it's just more fun for me. The Rolex image doesn't appeal to me either. Nowadays I would never buy a Rolex.
I love my Rolex sub date, I bought my first on the grey market for 6900euro and after a while before the hype, I ordered a new one from a AD here in Sweden. After 8 months I sold my first rolex for 7900euro and I picked up that one I ordered for ca 7000euro and to day I’m still in love with it it’s a classic piece. I will never sell it because it’s for my son when I die.
Many Rolex Submariner parts ARE THE SAME as the Datejust or Explorer, so that means it is not a Frankenwatch. It might have a replacement spring from a DJ, but to be clear, that doesn’t mean it isn’t a genuine Rolex.
I bought a Rolex Submariner (bubble face) back in 2003 and I am less enthusiastic about it today than I was back then. And for pretty much exactly the reasons outlined here. Non enthusiasts, BS artists, social media crapola. It all adds up and while the watch has increased greatly in value... Well, I could care less about that. Oftentimes, the very blokes who are desperate to own one are in no way horology enthusiasts. It's a shame really.
Completely agree, I dont click or spend more than 1 second on anything that says Rolex, they have created a bubble on a brand that charges 25% for the name alone... I wouldnt mind buying one from th AD and the retail price (not for re-selling) but for having an icon piece, everything else its BS.. paying above retail is for dummies IMO.
I have the classic no date Submariner and is not depressing when you can actually get it, it makes me so happy! like no other watch, still trying to find a flaw and nothing. Don;t need a Patek or AP, happy to say the submariner was my dream watch and I already have it.
Couldn’t agree more and it’s just too popular for my liking. Currency item….never heard it put that way and that’s a perfect way to describe Rolex right now. Perfect analysis sir! Rolex are master marketing manipulators!
I found your channel by chance and really enjoyed your video. I agree with every word you said, bravo! By the way I am talking as man with a number of Rolex watches. I actually have that explorer II you have with polar dial and back in the day I purchased from my AD with discount......the good old days of Rolex, when you could walk into a dealer pick any sports model and get discount.
@@BraveBeaters yeah that was back in 1997 🤣🤣. In those days you could walk into a AD and pick up Rolex steel sports watch. I even have Daytona With Zenith movement white dial, I waited around 12 months for that back in 1999.
Spot on, well thought out and great camera work as always. I'm fortunate that I just ain't a fan of the design (so I don't like the Black Bays either), maybe over exposed to its ubiquitousness- so not something I've had to worry about, tho if I had the money for a submariner I'd spend it on my Ducati 😉 Cheers mate, keep up the good work 👍🏻👍🏻
@@BraveBeaters 👏🏻 after 20+ years of Triumphs I got a classic 2001 Monster 900ie, my dream bike as a young man. Lots of carbon fibre and handles like its on rails. Love it, can't wait for summer 🌞 Are you a Ducatisti then? Cheers 👍🏻
@@stevefox8605 THAT IS A BADASS BIKE! Congrats. I was a fan of 2 wheel competitions, Moto GP, but I DO appreciate these classics! enjoy it! I am more on 4 wheels, big engines, raw power :D
I have a modded Seiko that looks like a Submariner, I didn't buy it for the status, I bought it because I like the look of the submariner and don't have $30k to spend on it.
Go for the explorer 1 instead. It’s a great watch, flies under the radar, some iconic watchmakers wear it because of the movement and it’s not a “flex” like the cliche submariners or gmts
I've always liked the Seamaster 300M more, so I just bought that. I WAS offered a no date Sub this year. The guy who wanted it decided not to buy it and I just happened to walk in a couple minutes later. The SA offered it to me and I politely thanked him and declined. I had never even shown interest in a Sub, much less inquired about one. Perhaps at this point, he knew for sure I was no flipper.
Then you have a clear conscience, Jim :D yes, it depends from person to person. I am personally with you in this ''rolex affair'' i denied a no date sub as well, offered it to a friend.
@@XShotokanX Yup, I sure could have. Here's the thing, though, I don't want to be a flipper. I think they are ruining this hobby. Additionally, at the time, I still didn't have any of the three Rolex I wanted. I didn't want to burn any possible bridges by getting this watch I didn't want, then sell it, then the AD finding out and that's one less option to get the ones I wanted. I got three last year from two ADs after that happened. I'm okay with my decision.
Millions of hard working Chinese have no other means to save as purchasing real estate (the bubble just bursted) or valuable collectibles as Rolex. That is, expect crazier prices in the short term. But, this should become an opportunity for new brands offering amazing quality (not luxury) for good money.
It's a great watch, that's certain, but it's not for me. I prefer more left field dive watches with great history, that have not become such status symbols, but remain true to their tool heritage.
The product is really good, but its their distribution that makes it discouraging. The ADs have a mind of their own...... Play the game at your own risk.
Fully agree, not in the game at all, in fact in my case I don't really like the watch at all, i had it on my wrist, sorry but I prefer a Omega or many other watches, like Oris, trying to improve and innovate much more,.
The majority of Rolex buyers are not true watch aficionados. They collect to show off the watches and don’t even know the history behind the watches. I have friends like this... very sad.
Can’t wait to get “that call”!!! 😂😂😂 great video as always Andrei! Your cinematography is getting better and better with each new video! As for the points mentioned, all valid and so painfully true ....
This watch used to be depressing to look at… however that changed when I finally got the call to pick up my 124060 😁

haha, grey review, Love the title and the drink that you had! :D congrats!
Thank you for your thoughts :)
I have a submariner 116011LN and a approved used 3 series 🤷♂️
Im on the waiting list for it and wow, your video quality is amazing! So crisp and good settings and light!
subscribed of course and I dont agree with you that its a depressing watch! :)
Alternatively, if you want the most counterfeited watch of all time- same answer.
I own 3 Tissots a Hamilton Khaki and a few Orient dive watches. If I ever lot my mind and bought a luxury watch it would be a Tudor black bay 58 if they ever decide to offer it with a ceramic bezel.
Spot on here. The negatives outweigh the positives. I have very little enthusiasm for the brand.
I am the third category. I genuine love Rolex (have several), but suffer from the shame/modesty of owing one. Hey, hey side note, can you tell me more about the chair you have. Looks like a gaming chair, but would it make for a good ergonomic office chair for long hours?
Hi, it is a maxnomic chair, this version seem to be pretty comfy for an office chair.
Another great video by B.B.!
I prefer a Grand Seiko spring drive not a Rolex.
I had the Snowflake, it didn’t work for me. But I understand the appeal.
Agreed. Heck, I keep my Seikos' boxes and papers safe and sound. I can't imagine somebody being stupid enough to lose their Rolex paraphernalia.
You scored with this one! Ty !!!!! keep the great content.
This was a bold video for you to make and I loved it!! I’m the poor colector trying to get into Rolex because of the watch and not the BS that comes along with it. Keep it up brother!
thanks M . It is just the beginning. more to come :)))))
@@BraveBeaters yes!!!!
Regards
Good advise mate - thanks!
Great analysis!
It's not extra money when you get the full set with box and papers... It's SMART money !
Yes I fully agree!
This guy has hit the nail on the head. I’m done with Rolex. It’s just a desperate sad game and Rolex themselves don’t seem to bothered about it.
:D
I just like having quality items that only ik that i have idk it’s weird but i don’t like materialistic attention or any attention
Multumesc mult, Welcome Aboard :)
You speak from my heart. I have a Rolex but I almost always wear a different watch. Why, because it's just more fun for me. The Rolex image doesn't appeal to me either. Nowadays I would never buy a Rolex.
Why not sell it and buy more fun watches
Same for me, got one but I think in the end it becomes another watch in rotation. at least this is happened to me.
Good points about Rolex hype train being toxic!
Great video. I'm thankful for Rolex... for leading me to Vacheron.
AHHAHAHA nice one!
I’ve got my eye on a Tudor 36 blue dial I love the simplicity of it.
Truths spoken! I went for the two tone, much better value for money, and a finer finished piece overall. Also uploaded impressions of it today,
wow nice video, I like it! is it plated with gold on the bracelet? I mean it is extra extra expensive compared to the steel version?
@@BraveBeaters The MSRP is about $5,000 more. That said, good luck finding a steel Submariner in stock at your local AD.
Many Rolex Submariner parts ARE THE SAME as the Datejust or Explorer, so that means it is not a Frankenwatch. It might have a replacement spring from a DJ, but to be clear, that doesn’t mean it isn’t a genuine Rolex.
Sorry but it's not.
Agree! I'm getting tired of my sub. I got two FORMEXes and they are fantastic!! You should review!
Definitely, I should try one for review :)
Awesome thoughts, the AD seem to remain the only politically correct option.
(have created a bubble on a brand that charges 25% for the name alone..). Rolex? Rolex watches are 90% name alone. 10% is the watch.
@@dannythemedic haha yeah yeah ! I was trying to be nice you know, cheers
Rolex is such an amazing brand, so desired, it has a created a huge black shadow economy for itself worth unimaginable millions.
Hey to my surprise I actually like what u are saying. So true! Thanks
I heard when you service a Rolex, they will change whatever part they decide it is too wear ... that could kling some bells 🤔🤫
I like the Submariner, I just can’t stand all the bullshit that comes with it.
Hi Max, welcome aboard :) Discount from AD? O_o
@@BraveBeaters yeah that was back in 1997 🤣🤣. In those days you could walk into a AD and pick up Rolex steel sports watch. I even have Daytona With Zenith movement white dial, I waited around 12 months for that back in 1999.
I burst out laughing when he said without further blabla..
Well said,
I would like to give this video a thousand likes.
Welcome to the club ;-)
HAhah, RUclips should invent such a feature :D
Correct in all you say, very impressed,al.
:D
Wow, great rant, well said, suscribed!!!
lol
As far as I'm concerned, Rolex is something that happens to other people.
Yes the prople present here are excluded :)))
spot on
Very nice video !
I have a Seiko SLA021J1 which meets all my expectations for a tool watch.
That is an amazing tool watch!, Congrats :)
Spot on, well thought out and great camera work as always.
I'm fortunate that I just ain't a fan of the design (so I don't like the Black Bays either), maybe over exposed to its ubiquitousness- so not something I've had to worry about, tho if I had the money for a submariner I'd spend it on my Ducati 😉
Cheers mate, keep up the good work 👍🏻👍🏻
Uuu! we have a 2 wheel Ducati fan here! Nice! Sports model?
@@BraveBeaters 👏🏻 after 20+ years of Triumphs I got a classic 2001 Monster 900ie, my dream bike as a young man. Lots of carbon fibre and handles like its on rails. Love it, can't wait for summer 🌞
Are you a Ducatisti then?
Cheers 👍🏻
@@stevefox8605 THAT IS A BADASS BIKE! Congrats. I was a fan of 2 wheel competitions, Moto GP, but I DO appreciate these classics! enjoy it! I am more on 4 wheels, big engines, raw power :D
Love my sub no Date, got it 8 years ago from Ad and can you believe got money off as well ,how time have changed ,such a shame 😕
Excellent video
Thanks!
I have a modded Seiko that looks like a Submariner, I didn't buy it for the status, I bought it because I like the look of the submariner and don't have $30k to spend on it.
I bought and traded my way to finally owning my Grail Submariner. Sold it a few months later as it bored the heck out of me. Just didn't connect.
Then you have a clear conscience, Jim :D
yes, it depends from person to person. I am personally with you in this ''rolex affair'' i denied a no date sub as well, offered it to a friend.
You could have bought the Sub, sold it to grey market and had a seamaster for free...
Good info.
Nice video bro!
Thanks Mr. P! ❤️
Defo! I am with you in this journey :D
Say what you want, but a Sub is still a Sub. Full stop
The product is really good, but its their distribution that makes it discouraging. The ADs have a mind of their own...... Play the game at your own risk.
It’s not that depressing when you own one
true! especially if new
Fully agree, not in the game at all, in fact in my case I don't really like the watch at all, i had it on my wrist, sorry but I prefer a Omega or many other watches, like Oris, trying to improve and innovate much more,.
You speak my language Sir! :D you just mentioned 2 of my favourite brands :)
Great video, even though I’m about to pick up a submariner 😂. After this though my mind is set on a JLC Polaris. After that IWC and possibly Tudor.
The majority of Rolex buyers are not true watch aficionados. They collect to show off the watches and don’t even know the history behind the watches. I have friends like this... very sad.
Great assessment Stevie, thanks for sharing :)
Man I realize all this is true but man it’s a dope looking watch haha
Can’t wait to get “that call”!!! 😂😂😂 great video as always Andrei! Your cinematography is getting better and better with each new video!
As for the points mentioned, all valid and so painfully true ....
can't wait to see the beast :D thanks Razvan!
Excellent! Subbed
Amazing channel!!
Thank you Sir! :)
Sad to think I just like my Rolex and want to enjoy it. Both my Pepsi and my ND Sub came from the AD.
