Youropinions make sense. Nice to watch someone talking about watches kind of normal way. I also use my Sub daily. That’s what it’s for. To be usedin all occasions.
Got my 114060 in Dec 2018 while vacationing in Hawaii. Bought my wife a diamond necklace for our 5 year anniversary and was offered the submariner a few days later. Haven’t bought another watch since and has had many travels with me around the world. It’s a keeper. That being said I’m getting the itch to add one more Rolex to the collection. We’ll see as I’m still in love with my sub.
I got mine Oct 2018, I’ve been itching for a Pepsi on jubilee bracelet but my AD has me low on the conveyer belt. My looks pristine , I clean it regular and wear it everyday, it’s the perfect tool watch for every occasion.
Got the call from my AD after 18months on the wait list Submariner 124060 now proudly sits on my wrist............When I'm not wearing my Explorer. 😊 Another really great video Ash. 👍
Congrats on the 5 year anniversary of the Submariner, Ash! I just got my 124060 in 2023 and I absolutely love having the symmetrical dial after owning a few Rolex with the date already (DJ and GMT).
Excellent video mate. The 114060 is my favorite watch in my collection and I truly believe the lugs will age well. They can take a polish and are instantly recognizable.
Well done, great video, love that you wear it doing everyday things. That's exactly what its for and how I wear my 126610LN. Thanks for the video and best wishes for the next 5 years.
I own the 124060 Ash and have to agree with you on this watch. Simple, clean, and extremely versatile. Subs get a bit of a bad rap for being common, but while I see a few date subs in the wild, the no date is a rare bird in my limited experience - it’s a keeper!
I have the 124060 and it has been with me since October 2020, which is the year it was released. It took a week to arrive at my AD after my first visit with no prior purchase history on it. I guess my Speedmaster and I must have endeared ourselves to the Sales Rep as we had a very nice long chat. congratulations sir, keep enjoying it for a long time !
Congratulations on the 5yr anniversary, Ash. Wishing you many more years of happy memories with your Sub. I got a 16613 in 2005 to mark the birth of my son and it's still my most worn watch after nearly two decades. Had is serviced last year and it needed nothing more than a new bezel insert which was only cosmetic anyway. One day this will go to my son also. I'm in the market now for a 124060 no-date Sub because like you I have fallen out of love with the cyclops date window.
A nice video on the iconic Submariner. I've had mixed feelings about it. I have wanted one but then also been conflicted by the inflated prices and manipulation of the market. As a mass produced watch they were getting plenty of money for them before the shenanigans. Nice to see them correcting down. If they come down enough, I might consider one. For now, I am satisfied with an Omega Seamaster and a TAG Heur.
Thank you Mr Jones for your deeply and honest reviews. Congratulations on the 5 years anniversary of your Submariner 🎉 These are so valuable for me because of I am already in waiting list for 126610 LN over 2.5 months. Hopefully after as early as possible I will reach my dream Submariner Date 😊🙏🏼
Hard to believe I have had my Submariner Date for the exact same amount of time. June of 2019. I love my Sub but I think you did it right going with the no date version. I didn't realize how much I loved the no date dial until I got an Explorer 1 124270 which is my favorite watch in my collection. The Sub is the definitive dive watch.
I couldn’t agree more! The definitive dive watch. The Tudor BB58 for me is the definitive modern version of a vintage looking diver, it looks very similar to the Rolex 5508 featured in James Bond back in the day.
I'm still saving ;) I bottled it a number of years ago when I was going to get an Explorer, I changed my mind at the last second and got 3 watches instead to cover life's events (Squale, Speedmaster and a Cartier Tank). But the itch never went away, so about a year after I decided to put a little away every month, enough not to hurt for the last 3 years with the hope that when I turn 50 in just over a year I can flat out buy it rather than putting myself in debt. It will probably be the 114060, I was going to get the explorer but with my near 8 inch wrist, i'm worried it will be too small (and I really don't like the look of the 39mm Explorer, it's just not as pretty as the 36mm IMHO), the 40mm Sub would be perfect. The other 40mm Rolex I like is the Airking 116900. It will no doubt send me to the loony bin when the day looms, realistically in about 6 months time
Great looking watch Ash. I fell in love with it when I saw it on Sean Connery's wrist. I'm with you not a fan of the cyclops window. That one is my favorite Rolex. Cheers Ron
Morning Sir Great vid as per your normal form .I also have a Rolex steel sports watch .About 12yrs ago I decided that I wanted a Sub !!Rather ignorant at the time I asked if I could try the one in the window second hand marked @£4k Moving on to the present day !!It wasn't a Sub but a Seadweller (even better ). Yes it's been back to Rolex for a service and new bracelet and yes that's £2k I sharnt see again .Do I regret buying it ?No its never off my wrist and unlike many of the gold and bi versions of hi end watches looks very classy and very understated .Two of the attributes I think a chap should aspire to !!!
Mazel Tov on the 5 year anniversary with the No Date Sub! I just got the call for the Explorer 36 I mentioned on a previous watch video of yours. Got on the list 25 July and Got the call 15 Aug, so I was surprised it was only a few weeks! They gave me 5K for the black bay pro and tank must large, and I offset the rest with some slush fund money I have and was able to make it a total wash with no expenditure coming out the the joint checking/savings account. I know you moved yours on after some time and thought it was a bit redundant with the DJ, and you love your Santos, however I think the Explorer 36 pairs perfectly with my D36 blue fluted-motif, as well as being the go-to land piece that compliments my Omega SMP 300M for Sea and my IWC Pilot's Chronograph 41. The good ol' SEAL collection! I'll miss having a cartier in the collection but maybe one day I can add in a santos medium or an older santos galbee or caree. Keep on enjoying your watches and love seeing where our watch journeys take us!
I bought a citizen titanium in 2013 when I begun my professional career. In these 10 yrs the watch has been a solid companion with me. While I have made good progress in my career and can afford a nice swiss timepiece, I feel the Citizen has been with me through all these years. It deserves all the wrist time it gets. Cheers.
Looks great! It's a timeless design. And also that's how it should be worn. I see stickers being sold to cover the entire watch to keep it looking unused forever. Someone who does that I would immediately suspect to be a reseller. Scratches are part of actually using a watch. They are called patina.
I own a White Gold Submariner but used to own the Sub you have. I also did pretty much every activity you can think of with it. I sold it because I couldn't stand the fat lugs, which thankfully are fixed on the newer model. That said, while these are built to absolutely take a beating and are still very functional, its intended purpose is to be jewelry. Robust, versatile, and functional jewelry but it's still jewelry. I used to lie to myself and try to call these tool watches but really we're romanticizing these watches. I do have an FXD that is more legible than a digital watch such as a G-Shock from all viewing angles. That watch is one of the last mechanical watches that I think is actually truly designed to be a tool from the ground up. Even then, lots of marketing and romanticism but it's genuinely more functional than a Sub. That said, the Sub is way more versatile and truly can be worn from the board room to the ocean. The FXD just doesn't look right in more formal settings. For the record, I do not use my White Gold Submariner as a tool. I think we can both agree that's definitely not the intended purpose of this watch haha
My Datejust is 39 years old and I wear it almost every day except when the weather dictates short sleeves and location - Jakarta, Naples, London - is known for Rolex robbery.
It's 8th anniversary for me with this watch, bought it in 2016 on my birthday from AD, walk in and walk out with one, still remember that I specifically asked for a none displayed model 😂. Those good old days are long gone.
please let me know which windows, all I see here (Netherlands) are pieces exhibition only :-( . Asked my AD 3-times (with a small Omega AT purchase history), all the say is no availibility
Did you enjoy Oman Ash? We're going there in around 10 weeks at half term. Maybe that's an idea for a video - favourite places in the world to travel to and why? Great video on the Sub and congrats on the 5 years.
Oman was perhaps our favourite family holiday. We have travelled a bit in the ME, most recently the popular UAE venues (Dubai, Abu Dhabi and RAK) but Oman is significantly better in every department. Whereas the UAE has become a bit crass, Oman has retained its heritage and natural appeal. Mind you, it's damn hot! Although you will be out of the hot season in Oct/Nov, but in May it was furnace-like and June/July/Aug it is a no-go for tourists as the heat is life-threatening for most. Have a great time, we will be back in Oman in Spring 2025.
@@moeszyslak7304 Overall much more classy than the UAE (due to the higher cost it keeps away the parvenu crowd) and the whole country is more elegant and authentic. Not manufactured fakery like much of the newer middle-east tourism traps.
Thanks for the video. We recently celebrated an anniversary and my wife asked what I would like for a gift. I decided that I wanted a nice mechanical sport watch. We bought me a Seiko GMT. I have absolutely no use for a dive watch but I thought a GMT would offer a similar look with a functionality that I might actually use. A Rolex, any Rolex, is outside my budget. I doubt I would ever buy one even if I could afford it, though. I just don’t like the elitist aura they’ve created for themselves. It rubs me wrong.
„I think I have no sense of association with any of these watches at all“ - You, 4 Months ago. Seems like you have the same love/hate-relationship with Rolex as a brand (not a watch manufacturer) as myself. Cheers, love your videos, Sir!
Pocket watches have become genuine bargains compared to wristwatches. Gold pocket watches from leading manufacturers like Rolex, Omega, Cartier and Patek can be bought for less than steel wrist watches from the same brands.
I understand your sentiments but the ever upward march of prices has pushed even steel sports Rolexes into the de facto dress watch category for many people. I would wear a beater watch like a G-Shock for bushcraft and other hard outdoor use. I keep my Rolexes and higher end watches for business and more gentle leisure pursuits. I liken it to the situation where you've bought a pair of bespoke leather country style boots. Of course you could wear them digging the garden but a relatively cheap pair of Wellington boots will do a better job without risk to your investment in your quality leather boot.
Submariner is an icon among watch collectors. Unfortunately I will never able to wear it because of my 14.5~15cm (5.9inch ish) wrist😢 At 29 years of age, I doubt that my wrist will ever get any bigger. Even if I can buy it and change to sailcloth strap or nato strap, it will lost its DNA somehow (I am kinda a purist). Oh well at least I can do is look at other salary man who wear the Sub to work and feel happy for them
Latest iteration corrected the design mistakes of your model. The maxi case is crass imo. But glad to see you using it as the tool watch its designed to be.
I will buy a Rolex for my 50th. I'm eyeing a breitling navitimer right now. ❤ then omega 007. Then I will get the submariner can't wait.. question? Do you finance or save up and pay cash.. I can do both but I was thinking it would be good to build credit.
Hmmm... So it's a watch and tells the time? My Dugena, which I bought in 2019 for 250 Euros, is in pretty much the same shape with very few minor scratches here and there, and it tells the time 😊 But so does the 1960s Seiko which I inherited from a late friend. I wear that one maybe once or twice a month, to keep the parts moving. Has a lot more scratches obviously, after 60 years, and needed a new bracelet about 10 years ago. But it tells the time. So does my 100+ year old pocket watch which is in a much better shape than even my Dugena because it has always been taken very good care of. I wear that with french cuffs, because I feel that a wrist watch doesn't really go along well with those. Watches? Yes, very useful items. But nothing that **I** would spend thousands of Euros or Pounds on. Just tools, and if they do their job (tell the time) I'm pleased. If they have a very simple and basic design: even better - and that's where Rolexes simply don't deliver: Far too bulky and "loud" for my taste 😉 And I don't like that modern high tech stuff like quartz and batteries. Automatic is technologically advanced enough for me: Vintage high tech! 😂
You just made a contradiction in terms of reference for this watch - it is indeed a tool watch, a dive watch in fact - hence absolutely no requirement for a date function and certainly no requirement for a cyclops magnifier, which obscures the ability to accurately read the time for approximately 5-minutes of each hour. This is why the original Submariner is a Submariner ( and not a Submariner Date).
NEW kids on the block I got my submariner 1976 cost me £176 from watches in Switzerland on Lord Street Southport never missed a beat dived with it all over the world never a problem sold it this year for £9000 we should I bought a few at the time
Saw one online where a chap had filed down the bezel teeth so it would be like the one Roger Moore had as a circular saw in Live and Let Die. I really hope it was a fake watch!
With due respect, I was always taught - by people that served on submarines - to pronounce it as sub-MAREENER rather than SUB-mariner. I suppose the men who served on submarines objected to the hint of being anything 'sub' about their naval service. Just a nit, otherwise great video, Thank You.
If I had a sub, and had chance to wear a dinner jacket or a tux, you can absolutely bet your ass I'm wearing my sub with it. 😂 Who doesn't want to have a bit of fun?
Ash, I'm afraid that you need to be reported to the Organization Against Watch Abuse for the manner in how the Submariner is being ill-treated! It made me cringe to see it knocked on the table. Perhaps it's not such a bad thing that Rolex is being brought back to Earth. The Submariner will always remain iconic as is the Seamaster. They are both excellent - on the same level. Omega has killer dials though!
Regarding their future desirability, whenever anything gets really popular, there's always a backlash. It's just human nature. Rolex watches do have a look that runs through 98% of their production. This could start becoming a problem. The look is starting to become a bit old, a bit golf club. I really wouldn't be putting my money in watches now, even with a crown on that watch.
I think the whole discussion about Rolex making its watches scarce like this is complete bogus, at least to the degree people claim. There might be ADs playing dirty games, but this has nothing to do with Rolex. Rolex produces around 1.2 mio watches a year, more than double Omega does. You can buy almost any Omega watch directly from the store, while you can‘t buy a Rolex. Demand for them is just so damn high. But yeah, the watch craze of the last few years (especially during the pandemic) is fading away and things (prices) seem to be getting „normal“ again.
5:10 as capable as you will ever need an 99.9% of the population. Pretty much everyone who goes diving does it between 10-40 meters. Saturation divers would never rely on something as barbaric as this or a Sea Dweller.
I cannot figure out why almost all rolex watches look so beaten up after 5 or 10 years. My cheapo Japanese and Chinese watches are in far better condition. I can only assume rolex steel is soft or that the mugs who buy them deliberately abuse them for some weird reason. Finally rolex could have provided on-the-fly adjustment without making the clasp overly large as is the case here. Seeing the vintage advert was a good reminder of how beautiful the original oyster case was compared to modern day slab-sided offerings.
it’s a very nice watch but to be honest, the whole waitlist spiel and the fact that you see them everywhere has totally put me off them and I find them rather boring now. I have a Longines Legend Diver for less than £2k which is amazing and I prefer the design a lot as well…

I do see-saw a bit with Rolex, but they could all go tomorrow if I found another fixation elsewhere -
After your 5 year purchase, The Rolex Submariner still looks amazing. A very tough / strong watch for every day wear.
but no vintage pocket watches? goes with a waistcoat. great for ambidextrous concealed carrying. at least here in the states.
Pocket watches have become genuine bargains compared to wristwatches. Gold pocket watches from leading manufacturers like Rolex, Omega, Cartier and Patek can be bought for less than steel wrist watches from the same brands.
Great 5 year review but think the time really has come for you to go all out & get yourself a Day Date
Unfortunately I will never able to wear it because of my 14.5~15cm (5.9inch ish) wrist😢
At 29 years of age, I doubt that my wrist will ever get any bigger. Even if I can buy it and change to sailcloth strap or nato strap, it will lost its DNA somehow (I am kinda a purist). Oh well at least I can do is look at other salary man who wear the Sub to work and feel happy for them
Proud Owner of Sub Date 2019... Grilled my Ass fir Submariner Date!
What does it cost to service?
I recently had a vintage 34mm Oyster Perpetual Date serviced by Rolex for around £500. A modern watch with no date complication should be cheaper.
550ish but they always say it needs a new crown etc so averages 750 in the end.
thx
What watch is your son wearing at 11:50? It looks pretty good!
Nirvana Grenchen Depthmaster.
I'm liking your jacket very much Ash, what's the brand?
John Lewis Any Days Utility Jacket (£45)
@@TheChapsGuide Many thanks! And not a bad price at all.
I really like the brown jacket you are wearing in this video, could you tell me what brand it is?

I bet that jewellers was Mallory’s! I bought my IWC pilots there, great service.

Hmmm... So it's a watch and tells the time?
My Dugena, which I bought in 2019 for 250 Euros, is in pretty much the same shape with very few minor scratches here and there, and it tells the time 😊
But so does the 1960s Seiko which I inherited from a late friend.
If they have a very simple and basic design: even better - and that's where Rolexes simply don't deliver: Far too bulky and "loud" for my taste 😉
And I don't like that modern high tech stuff like quartz and batteries. Automatic is technologically advanced enough for me: Vintage high tech! 😂
One of the best tool models by Rolex but a lesser watch without the date.
NEW kids on the block I got my submariner 1976 cost me £176 from watches in Switzerland on Lord Street Southport never missed a beat dived with it all over the world never a problem sold it this year for £9000 we should I bought a few at the time
1987 I purchase my Sub 5513 best watch ever
Good watch but the 4/5 digit ref will always be the best in class No Date Submariner imho 🙌
just wished the dials were cleaner. 6 lines of text is a bit much. If I look at the vintage 50's ones. They look so much nicer.
Saw one online where a chap had filed down the bezel teeth so it would be like the one Roger Moore had as a circular saw in Live and Let Die. I really hope it was a fake watch!
On my wedding day in 2025 your watch will be exactly six years old!
I like it and I have a homage of it but they're just too big and bulky for me!
I have a Longines Legend Diver for less than £2k which is amazing and I prefer the design a lot as well…
Can’t beat a Sub. Does it all. But a no date Sub sans cyclops is missing something. The cyclops IS the watch. The rest is thrown in for free.
Said like a man who has a Sub Date......
Wearing mine the ND 41 since December 2020. The most perfectly boring daily watch.
That watch has survived whales, sharks, and sea turtles, but do you feel comfortable wearing it in London streets?
funny thing ,, police officers don t make that much money to afroed a watch ta cost as much as car ,

@@Crazy_Joe_Davola I would say that's a great watch, like Lange One, VC Overseas, Richard Mille models, Journe Chronomat Bleu, Breitling Navitimer. But these are just below the pantheon of most famous watches.
@@johnnysilverhand1733 Shhh Rolex owners are talking.
So you’re saying it’s the best watch you have and running perfectly. Jeezz the evil Rolex
you cant comapre the date just with subamriner... one is like twice as nice as the other ....
Can’t agree regarding value’s submariner date 2024 used currently £12000 + rrp £9000 . If you’re going to talk about watches be accurate!
You can see the charts yourself, Submariner models are common and prices are nose-diving.
@@TheChapsGuide charts are clearly inaccurate. Submariners steel with date £9000 at AD on the Gray market 12000 if that’s a price slump I can’t see it but opinions vary
Watches aren't reliable investments. They are continent on current day esthetics.
Rolex has done well selling artificial scarcity for years. They make 1m maybe morec watches a year. They have AWAYS been a mass market brand.
You make videos in the bush. Very strange...
