My older sister and I had a farm together and we made up a backstory that our characters were twins (mine male hers female.) One day I checked the mail and said, “Awwwe! I am furious. I always put so much effort into my panel because the game says variety matters. But you can just brute force it with epic fish?
@@foxxygradius7858 well you do get bonus points for having variety, but the iridium quality bonus overrides it so hard.
The way it checks the point value has to do with the money value of the items as well, so having really anything that is both expensive and iridium quality will just win outright.
However, 9 iridium quality Chub fish is the safest bet due to their abundance in most seasons, as well as the fact that they're one of the easier fish to catch.

@@foxxygradius7858 lol i gotcha. Also, one of the best things about Stardew is that, while there are optimizations, they are completely optional. There's not really a time limit, no incentive to rush or encroaching deadlines (unless you actively choose to add them via the request boards).
Stardew Valley is a game you can play completely at your own pace, and I really enjoy it for that.
If I saw a guy with not one but nine chubs, I'd be afraid to give him anything but first place

how much money does the tea make?
@@ItsMeChaoz Base price is 50g for the leaf, 100g for brewed tea and 150g for pickled tea leaves. It goes higher with the artisan perk later on.
But for me the best part is they give a nice stress free start because I'm not rushed for sprinklers until I'm ready to do so, thus can focus on my fruit trees first and have the tea pay for it.
So I make tea saplings to plan my animal pens out and bring in tea leaves when they're ready.
Later I invested in a shed for jam/jelly makers and make 20+k in profits per batch of 137 leaves.
Another perk is that they don't need reseeding, but you can continuously make the saplings and sell on the side at 250g a sapling.
Tea tree saplings can be used as fences and won’t ever decay.
how would you get in to the animal places though

@@jackcopeland9193When they go inside for the night, close the door. Start setting up an area and you can add a section of fence for a gate. Or just close it off completely and have it so you can get inside while the animals are still in the fenced area.

The male/female one is very useful for starting out. However I think there is a bundle that uses cookies though which are otherwise hard to get (again take this with a pinch of salt I may be wrong)
Edit: The bundle I mentioned is randomized

you could go through evelyn and george's trash can, sometimes they throw that out, dk about the bundle
It’s a remixed bundle, which is randomized. So no guarantee that you’ll get it.

I always just save a few iridium quality items throughout the first year to set up in the grange display then stick them into a chest, not to be touched again until the next year when they will win me first place once again.
How do you get iridium quality items in year 1
@@evanbyrain It takes some work, but getting skills to a sufficient level is high on the list of priorities. Most notably farming and fishing. But mining is useful as well.
I typically go with a set of Six produce, Two fish and a diamond. Which gets First place every time.
For the most part, the produce is random chance, but a higher level and a use of boosting items can raise the chance. And mining can both help you to obtain a diamond as well as unlocking sprinklers that you can use to lower time and energy spent watering plants.
Then close off the day with fishing, selling unneeded catches for a little extra cash or eating a few for the energy to keep fishing, further helping raise the level.
Once at a high enough level, a full power fishing pole cast along with a flawless catch will result in a high quality fish with a chance for an iridium quality.
It's probably best to note that keeping gold quality items is also valid until you can obtain an iridium quality to replace one.
By the ocean on the left side of the docks. There's a big boulder in the water, throw your line towards it and if you get a perfect catch it'll always be iridium quality.@@evanbyrain
@@evanbyrain Fishing seems to be the earliest you can get iridium in my experience, also great for early game cash

I changed my gender at the Wizard’s shrine and the next day I got the other letter. Pretty neat (it won’t save you anything though, since editing your character costs 500g regardless)

You get both cookies and gold regardless of your choice. You may get one first, but eventually you end up with both pieces of mail regardless.
Also my brother and I have collectively lost over 60 grand worth of items from passing out in the mines
@@mremokaos2012the person making the short meant if you pass out due to it reaching 2pm. If you pass out due to losing all of your energy/health you do lose items.
You get cookies from mom for your male character, but you get money from your dad for your female character. I don't think its a gender thing, I think its a "mom wants to send a gift with love" and "dad wants to send the basic gift of money". As a person with a mom and a dad, I personally think its realistic.

@@cailus3273 Correct. If you pass out, you will lose 10% of your gold, to a max of 1k. Late game, no one cares about that 1k, so people pass out routinely. Early game, losing the gold can hurt so you may want to be careful.
You will never lose items unless you die, though.

You do lose both gold & items when you pass out in the mine.
Just a reminder, you don’t need chubs. You just need 9 iridium quality items, and they can be anything. I always win first place with my iridium quality eggs.
You will loose your items if you pass out on a floor of the mines, get out of them and pass out after.
You can go in the wizard’s tower and change your gender, and you’ll get all the items you missed.

only if you lose all your health, passing out at 2am has never taken any items just 10% of gold to a max of 1000g

In the game, tea isn't very profitable. Although it is a favorite gift to Caroline and Lewis. Pickled Tea Leaves make more gold, and selling the tea saplings makes a LOT more gold.

Yea, but the cookies are one of the items needed to complete the comunity center and if you choose girl you will have to have 3 friendships with the grandma to unlock the recipie for cookies.

Gotta level up your fishing and get the Iridium Rod, then when fishing, fish out at the furthest spot on the bar instead of in the middle, then don't let the fish leave the green bar area while reeling in.
perfect catches are the key, but you can use quality bobbers as well

Something else I found on accident is make sure you try bringing the crane down behind the bushes (including the one in front of the box) because there can be free movie tickets behind them (among other odd items)

Also the fall fair thing I just start collecting gold/iridium quality goods of different types (a fish, a artisan, a forrage, a food) and I won first prize my very first time playing the game. I also like to save certain high quality things for birthdays (like blueberries for Lewis) and use them on the display since you can take the stuff back.
Tea trees are still useful for fences as they cant decay and dont die in any season
The fact that I always try to pick a variety of highly valuable stuff when I can just put 9 of one thing.

I did a play-til-grandpa run and the second year of the harvest fest I just grabbed whatever gold star crops I had, some Iridum bars I had lying around, some wine, some jam, a diamond I found in the mines that day, and a pail of iridum milk.
Got 1000 points for my display without even really trying.
