      The “best” is very individualized. I had Gold, then Platinum- crunched the numbers when time to renew and the Platinum won out by a large amount. I went in assuming a similar viewpoint as you mention, but the numbers didn’t crunch out that way…. Spending habits, “value” from the metal coupon book varies from person to person.

    One feature of the Amex line I’d like to see you cover is something I use almost daily. The split/ send feature with Venmo or PayPal. The ability to split a charge and have the others persons money go back directly to the card is HUGE. No more “extra” cash in my checking that gets spent elsewhere. This really keeps my balance at bay for dinners with friends etc.

My discover, bank of America, American express, two citi cards all give me generous credit limits. Capital one was my first credit card, back when I had bad credit. I have an Amex Evereyday Preferred. To get to the 30 in a billing cycle I just split the transaction. So if I am at the store and I buy 10 items. I will split it into 4 transactions. Between groceries and gas, I get to 30 transactions in 10 to 15 days into the billing cycle then I switch groceries onto the gold card. That way I get an average of 4.2 points per dollar. I think that is pretty good.

    Amex Everyday card is the only no-annual fee card that can save MR points. If you wanna close your Amex MR cards that have annual fees (Platinum, Gold, Green) but don't wanna lose your MR points so you can use your MR points in future, this is a good card to keep.

    • @Th33Vultur3
      @Th33Vultur3 Год назад +1

      I was going to cancel it because I have the Blue Business Plus, but the no fee EveryDay would help in the MR points camp to keep my personal credit in good standing with more available credit in case of an emergency and to lower utilization, but I have to remember to use it every now and then to put a small charge on it to keep that line open and its no annual fee to have it open.

  • @SuperVeganShark
    @SuperVeganShark Год назад +4

    The Everyday card is good to have because you get and keep the MR points. If you have a Plat card etc that has some MR points on it and you cancel you lose those points unless you have a card that offers MR points.
    The Everyday card fits that purpose.
    They also used to use that card as the card to give people a certain amount of 0 interest on balance transfers, instead of any signup bonus.

    8:35 I love it! I always max out the $200 airline credit, I easily max out the $240 digital entertainment credit, I always max out the $200 Uber credit, I also use the Walmart+ members ship which gets me $.10 off per gallon at Exxon gas stations (but I use my citi custom cash to get 5x back) which theirs one close to my house and their gas is cheaper than other stations near me, I don’t always max out the hotel credit but I will this year so that alone pays for the annual fee and that’s not even mentioning that I travel at the least every three months and what I consume at airport lounges alone probably covers the AF but a lot of people wouldn’t get nearly that same value so as you said it’s not for everyone.

    The Blue Cash Preferred is a no brainer for us for the 6% back on groceries and streaming, and 3% back on commuter transit. We don’t use it for anything else. However, I mainly say that because of the $7/month credit for the Disney Bundle, which on top of the 6% back for Disney Bundle charges ends up completely covering the annual fee. If we ever lose that deal, the card would become a lot worse.

      I think it's a good card to have for the first year when there's no annual fee. However, I personally don't really trust most cash back cards with annual fees. The math just didn't add up for me to justify getting the Blue Cash Preferred, so I instead upgraded my Cash Magnet to the Blue Cash Everyday because it has no annual fee at all, and it's totally worth it since I needed a card specifically for gas and online shopping.

    The platinum has gotten a lot better over the years. When I was first looking at Amex cards 8 or so years the platinum was flat 1 point per dollar on everything. Where the gold card was similar to what it is now but it was 3x not 4. Of their cards right now I would say the best on is cash preferred as it is essentially what the gold card used to be. Yes it has annual fee but you can easily cover the fee with the rewards.

      They are considered "super stores" as they sell T.V.s, Clothes, and so on. They are not "grocery stores" as their stores are not limited to groceries only.
      However, "Neighborhood Walmarts" do code as supermarkets so I get my groceries at a local Neighborhood Walmart with my AmEx Blue Cash Everyday.

      @marlonarancibia3247 ive noticed neighborhood walmarts are a bit more expensive but I would definitely try them out. And I read the same thing for gas; gas stations as clubs or superstores don't count either. Although, I read that they're code differently depending upon where you pay, at the pump or inside. I used my current amex and paid at the Walmart gas pump and it was coded as fuel. They usually have the cheapest and it's been good to my vehicle so maybe I'll be able to continue doing so.

    The Amex Everyday card is a pretty crappy card as far as points earnings go but it's in the membership rewards points ecosystem. It has no annual fee. You can view it as a sort of "downgrade path" from the higher annual fee cards where if you already have this card, you can cancel your platinum or whatever and not lose your points assuming all you had was the platinum and this card.

    • @bassplayer2011ify
      @bassplayer2011ify 3 месяца назад +4

      It's not as bad as you think at least here in the States. Most major chains (both restaurants and stores) accept Amex. The one that I can think of that doesn't is In and Out. In most cases, the stores that won't accept Amex are smaller regional stores or family-owned businesses and that is because Amex charges more for payment processing than Visa or Mastercard. Plus if you are shopping in regional or family stores cash is still king.

      They are so different that it is tough to compare, but I do like both of them for what they are. The Hilton card obviously just limits the way you can use your reward so you have to decide if that is ok with you. And then there is the problem of what Hilton points are actually worth. i use 4/10 of a cent per point as my quick valuation, so 10,000 points equals $40ish in my estimation, for example.

    Total personals is 4.... If I applied not through American Express website but use
    A different site for a cobranded card do I still get denied being over 4 cards?
    I just got hit with Capital One savor card annual fee. I know you're history with the card by the way.
    How can I downgrade this card to the no annual fee I had for 3 years I tried to downgrade it many times after first year they always say no, they even went as far as to suggest getting another quick silver with annual fee total BS.
    I don't want to cancel the card yet because it's gonna drop my credit score.
    Also if I cancel this card had it since 02/2020 and apply again but for the no annual fee do I still get the bonus do you know?

      If it's super old, you want to keep it because old accounts boost the credit score. Also a win if you old accounts are no annual fee. Just sock drawer it. If you want to apply for amex cards with annual fees in membership rewards ecosystem and then cancel them at some later time because the annual fees don't make sense for your situation, that socked away card will act as a placeholder or reservoir for your membership rewards points so you don't lose them.

A big payment that’ll strengthen your credit. Right now your credit is weak . Even someone with a credit score of 600 can have a better score than someone with a 700.
