    Great review. I have the Samyang tiny 35/1.8 - This one looks so nice. It's just the size that puts me off. I always feel self-conscious when I have a big lens on the camera if it attracts attention.

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  2 года назад +6

      Well the first version was a great performer so it made sense to keep the optical formula, which needs this size. It's not much different from the Sony and Sigma counterparts and if Samyang made it small and light then it would be a direct competitor for the 35mm f1.8. This way they can offer 3 different versions, the pancake 2.8, the tiny 1.8 and the beast 1.4 :)

      If the Mark II fits your budget don't hesitate :) Especially if you have the Sony A7IV. Since the video we had a chance to compare them on the A7IV and tracking of the Mark II, especially for video is just better.

    After reading all comment my Question
    how are you sir
    Please tell me which one should I buy?
    Samyang 35mm f/1.4 D OR OR Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG DN
    video is my priority while choosing a lens auto focus and focus breathing is my first priority. I can afford sigma 35mm 1.4 dndn as well as samyang 35mm 1.4 II but can not afford sony gm 35mm
    my priority is samyang because in india samyang is little bit cheaper so i spend rest amount for other accessory
    please reply me as soon as possible
    i want to buy very soon

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  2 года назад

      I used the A7RIII in this video. Once you set it to continuous focus then tracking will be available as a choice in focus area selection. On A7IV it's much easier as it has very good tracking that you can set on a custom button.
      Ps.: I use back button focus, so the shutter button does not do any focusing.

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  2 года назад +1

      so far my experience is quite positive with the lens for video, at 9:18 you can see when Alyssa is walking towards the camera it follows her nicely and if you look at the bokeh balls you can see they change smoothly. Focus breathing is also well controlled as you can see at 2:00. I don't have personal experience with the Sony, but what I read it's a good performer too, so I think you should decide between size (Sony) vs f1.4 and IMHO smoother bokeh (Samyang). Also with the Samyang you can have an aperture ring on the lens with the custom switch, and the 24-70 from Samyang just received an update where you can change the focusing between linear and non linear, so my guess is that it's just a matter of time before this lens will get such update. For photography this Samyang is probably one of the best out there (maybe the f1.2 Sigma is better, for more) :)

    Just bought the 35mm f1.8 last month. In your opinion and if you were in my shoes, would you upgrade to the f1.4 II ?

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  2 года назад +1

      If you are happy with the 1.8 then no. The difference between f1.8 and f1.4 is not that huge and the Samyang 35mm f1.8 is a great lens too.
      But if you feel you need that little extra smoothness in the bokeh, a bit bigger bokeh balls and the price difference is fine for you then yes :)

      I used the Tamron 28-75 version 1 for some time that lens is ok in a lot of situation but with back ligth or Aperture above 5,6 it was not so good anymore. Is the samyang better than the Tamron? Most of the time I use the Minolta 28-85 F3.5 it is perfect for IR but need adapter :(

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  2 года назад

      @@wolfgang_hasselmann I did not try the Tamron so I can't comment on that. I find the Samyang 24-70 f2.8 a very capable IR lens. It has a little hotspot which is more like a sort of vignetting in certain situations but overall I enjoyed using it for IR, both false colour and pure IR. Also the sharpness with the 24-70 is quite good, only the very extreme corners at 24mm wide open where it's not the greatest, but it's quite rare to have anything important there so it's not an issue for me :)
