    I wouldn't say that 50mm is equivalent to human eye though, something around 35mm would probably be closer to it

    Love how you made it fun this video, and your energy, can tou tell me what you used to record the viewfinder in the city? Is it your mobile? And what is underneath the camera?

      We are using Zhiyun gimbals and we have a Zhiyun Transmission 2.0 transmitter that sends a 1080p image to our mobile (up to 3 mobiles) which we can record with the ZY Play app.
      Hope this helps :)

    2:42 is so dope. Too bad it's too big but understandable being a fullframe 1.4 lens. Henry Cartier Bresson wouldn't use it for street photography for sure :)

    very practical review. A lot of the reviewers just trash Samyang for chromatic aberration and vignetting, which doesn't really matter in portrait and in landscape you use high aperture and that increases the image quality, thank you

    You said this is the smallest 50mm f1.4 for Sony, but the version 1 had a smaller filter diameter of 67mm, are you sure the version two is smaller than the version one?

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  2 года назад +1

      Well, you have a good point there! But usually when it comes to lens sizes we only talk about it's length often ignoring the diameter, it's due to the perception of how far it protrudes from the camera body.
      The Mk1 is 9.8cm long and 585g heavy while the Mk2 is 8.9cm / 420g. You are right about the filter size being 67mm on Mk1 and 72mm on Mk2 as the later one is a bit more chubby being 8cm wide compared to the Mk1 which is 7.4cm.
      But you're right if we calculate the volume of the two lenses (as a cylinder) the Mk1 is 421cm2 while the Mk2 is 448cm2, which will make the Mk2 technically bigger :) But the Mk2 is still shorter and significantly lighter ;)

    • @kidcut
      @kidcut 2 года назад

      @@holdmylenscap7241 thanks! All my lenses are 67mm in filter size or shorter, hence why I've avoided upgrading my 55mm zeiss until a F1.4 is 67mm or shorter. I'd go with the MK1 except of the AF issues, thanks for the review!

    Do you find that the Samyang 85mm f/1.4 is reliable for face and eye autofocus? Thank you.

    • @spencerfr1
      @spencerfr1 2 года назад

      This used to be my go to 85 and I can say it’s very reliable! I did end up returning for the sigma because I had the $ but if not I would still have been happy to keep the Samyang

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  2 года назад +1

      Most of my shoots are done with the 85mm f1.4 until now (the Samyang AF 135mm f1.8 will probably take over :P) and I found it very reliable. The Samyang AF 35mm / 50mm MkII / 85mm f1.4 and 135mm f1.8 lenses are all reliable and work well with Sony bodies. And the reason why I switched from Sony lenses to Samyang because they have a character, even the 24-70mm f2.8. They are all Samyanglicious! :D

    Julia Trotti did a review of this lens last month and she indicated her copy of this lens suffered from either front focusing or just focus inaccuracy. Her copy had a lot of photos that focused on the nose, cheek, or eyelash but not on the eyeball. I saw the test of your son where 55 of 68 photos were in focus. But if you look closely at those in-focus photos were they focused on the eyeball? Did you have any issues with AF when you had your model at the beginning of the video? I'm curious if this is a case where there are inconsistencies from lens to lens whether you have a good copy or bad copy. Or if Samyang fixed the AF issues that Julia experienced.

    • @holdmylenscap7241
      @holdmylenscap7241  2 года назад +10

      We saw Julia's excellent review and to be honest was a bit worried. When our son was running towards the camera we used object tracking not eye-AF, and it kept tracking our son pretty well. But we already had a few portrait shoots with the lens where tried to stress the AF to see if we can replicate the issues Julia found and apart from challenging situations, like strong backlit, the lens did not fail us. What I can think is that either Julia had a different firmware or it was not a fault of the lens but the camera, as the A7IV is known to have focusing issues with some lenses (like the Zeiss 55mm f1.8)
      But since so many people are asking about this issue we are planning to do a stress test for eye-af with the 50mm f1.4 so make sure you subscribe to not miss it ;)

      Hi Denis, which camera are you using? We are using A7RIIIa and A7III and have not experienced this. Our A7IV will arrive this month so hopefully can test it with that camera too. There are some reports that the A7IV has issues with the Eye-AF, so could it be that?
