      I fully respect what Vince was saying in this video. Rap is different from hip-hop, but most don't understand that. Hip-hop is a way of life, but it reflects in our word usage and content delivered. That's art. Rap is just negative and tares down our community, while degrading both men and women. That's not art. The pictures that hip-hop paints are beautiful creations, while rap is Pre-K finger painting. Just my opinion.

    Rap is clearly an art form. Most rap now though is leaning more towards the entertainment side, meaning the motivation behind even making the music is instant approval and admiration by the largest number of people possible, and of course money.
    Most of this approval, admiration and money isn’t coming because of talent and or skill. It’s because of looks, trendiness, shock value, and very heavy marketing. There are artists who aren’t even appreciated by the masses, and don’t see any significant wealth in their time, but have created timeless art that’s appreciated later on. There are some artists who never gain a massive fanbase but are highly developed skill-wise and greatly appreciated by a small subset of people. There only seems to be space for the rap entertainers to develop these days.

    Looking at it objectively, the play is brilliant. Since music became phenomenon as through performance and recording, businessmen taught to capitalize off of the “feeling”, and monetizing the audience for their money and success. The truth of the matter is, you could do this for money, do this for art’s sake, or both. The biggest thing, whatever you do, do it to the fullness of your convictions. Every avenue has a give and take. You can choose. Just DO WHAT YOU CAN ONLY DO. You have the space to do it how you want, and youre production’s have a place and an audience.

    I’ve been fighting with this my whole career and I noticed the disrespect more once I got into other industries. Rap is seen as toxic and not often artistic, I’ve been 8 years making music and I have had many supporters but a year of Acting/Modeling I got more respect for my craft there than my whole time in music, more money too. Film and fashion are held to higher artistic standard and it’s unfortunate rap gets boxed into this. We perpetuate it by feeding into the 1.99 song mentality like he said.

When you know history you see how dope we are to subconsciously rap or paint our original cultural customs. When you see a bigger picture the question rooted in criticism becomes individually accountability for misusing internet while those before fought harder with less resources while we complain.

    Here's a concept, deteriorating streams. Meaning, that with every purchase the quality drops. So you pay high price for an artists music. As the owner you can't share it or have it copied. Like vinyl records. You get the one copy of it. Basically stop selling streams and sell hard-copy materials.

  • @Mak0154
    @Mak0154 7 месяцев назад +1

    I haven't seen the video yet but I have a thesis as to why people think so. First off sampling is taking an already perfected and finished song and scratching it up to make a new beat out of it which is an art form in itself but it takes less talent and is less creative than the actual musicians who arranged and put together the original song. I also think hiphop has lowered its standards throughout the years in terms of rapping skills, just about anybody can come into the rap game and not even know how to rap these days so people don't take it as seriously. Lasty, some people view rapping as just talking in your regular voice without having to vocalize or do any tricks with your voice as opposed to other genres that require playing instruments and singing which is not as easy to most people as putting words together and flowing over a beat in your natural talking voice.

    • @Mak0154
      @Mak0154 7 месяцев назад +1

      All of these aren't to downplay hiphop although I will 100% stand by saying it is the most easiest genre to do. Rapping (being lyrical) is very difficult especially when you're putting together an album, free styling, or battle rapping and it absolutely is an art form in my eyes. I view it as spoken word.

    Rap has lost it's artform awhile ago.. When Basquiat was Hip Hop. He was a Writer during Hip Hop's most artistic era. An era when success was local, hence the term Allcity. Back then many artist , Bboys, Dj's, Rappers, and even Writers shied away from commercial success, because they knew not only their creative freedom would disappear, but their unique style and expression would be widely duplicated and recreated , transforming this artform into a business. Fun Fact, Missy copied her whole act from the Legendary Writer /Rapper Ramellzee who introduced elements of futurism and avant-garde to Hip-Hop culture in the early 80's. Basquiat produced, arranged and did the cover art for his first single the acclaimed Be Bop.

EVERYONE TAKE YOUR MUSIC OFFLINE AND BUILD A WEBSITE AND SELL YOUR MUSIC FROM THERE.. DO NOT ALLOW YOUR MUSIC ON ANY SITE UNLESS THAT SITE PURCHASES A LICENSE FROM YOU OR YOUR COMPANY. THATS HOW YOU'LL GET THE $9.99 FOR A SINGLE, $15.00-$25.00 FOR A ALBUM AND MOST OF ALL THE PROPER RESPECT YOU DESERVE. DO NOT ASK ANYONE IF YOU SHOULD DO THESE THINGS, JUST DO IT. BECAUSE MOST PEOPLE DONT REALLY KNOW HOW TO DO ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH MUSIC, BUT YOU MIGHT HAVE SOME OF THOSE PEOPLE HELPING/WORKING FOR YOU AND YOU THINK THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING BUT THEY DONT. THEY ARE JUST HIDING BEHIND GOOD CONVERSATION AND PEOPLE THAT THEY KNOW AND YOU DONT KNOW, SO YOU THINK THEY ARE SPECIAL BUT MOST OF THEM ARE USELESS. GET RID OF THEM IF THEY DO NOT AGREE WITH REAL INDEPENDENCE, BECAUSE WHEN YOU DO IT LIKE THAT, EVERYONE HAS TO PUT IN REAL WORK AND REAL MONEY. AND THAT'S THE BREAKING POINT.

    True: Rap is an ART. Yet, is a very old primitive art form (50yrs). Kid's Play. Everyone can participate in it.

    Whether something is considered art or not has nothing to do with its marketplace value. Rarity and uniqueness is what creates marketplace value. Paintings hanging in certain art galleries are valuable not just because they are art, but because they are originals or at least rare re-productions. Rap music is mass-produced. That is why copies of rap songs and albums are cheap. Vince Staples is talking faster than he is thinking.

    R.i.P Shakespeare

    Of course Shakespeare had bars!! Shakespeare wrote sonnets! He wrote at least 145 (!!) 14-line poems, that rhyme, written by him. He kinda was a rapper🤷🏾‍♀️.
    I don’t think high school teacher’s consistently convey WHY his plays are important. We have sitcoms, we have movies. The plays he wrote are considered the blueprint for modern narrative structure (3 acts, rising tension, psychological drama instead of glorified morality tales) of drama & comedy.
    Ask yourself, what were the plays like before him? In terms of western culture: Greek & Roman styles. But those didn’t have punchlines. Those didn’t handle romance the way we see it today. But it’s found in Shakespeare tho.
    Sleep on the Bard of you want to. People still take ideas from his plays, the conflicts between characters.
    True, he is over-represented in the cannon of Western classics.

    Inclusivity and exclusivity in the marketplace due to commercialism is a detriment to rap, as well as art work in general. As both a painter and a rapper, I have the unique perspective of knowing this paradigm. The levels to it are too nuanced and detailed for yt comment.
