I've been listening to The Cure for over 35 years now, I always have goose bumps with certain songs.. this is one of them. From the edge of the deep green Sea is another one...

The first gig I saw after several cancer operations, and my favourite song by them. It always made me feel ALIVE to hear those bass notes, and still does
Some things or experiences also take on entirely different levels of meaning as you grow older. Might be one of those cases. I know some of their songs certainly affect me a lot more now than they affected me before (and it's not like they were lacking in that department to begin with).
IMO, the Entreat version is my favorite, hands down. The sped up tempo by Boris is absolutely jaw dropping. It just adds a whole new dimension to the song. Boris is just a genius on drums. I even get a kick out of the crowd as they are seemingly trying to comprehend the level of brilliance that they just witnessed.
I would credit Porl and Boris in particular for how excellent that version is, for the most part. Porl's live parts during the Disintegration and Wish era were just incredible, a perfect balance between what the song originally had and his trademark frenetic guitar-based "barely organized chaos".
What I love so much about this song is not just the melancholy feel of it, but how hypnotic those continuous chords and notes are. Beautiful track and one of my all time favorites
I HAVE TO GO TO A LIVE CONCERT! I MUST DO IT! I never saw them live but when I get the chance to see them I will take it. The cure was my first music ever in my life. The first cassette that I held in my hands was boys don't cry at the age of 6 in '89. And I loved it. I heard it again and again and again. I listened to it to go sleeping in the night. I have to see them live in my life. The cure is one of the most beautiful bands in the world.
For sure.Nothing compares the feelings that flourish when you are listening live and you realise you are sharing the same place at the same time with them and thousands of people enjoying and living the same as you. Incredible. Do it.
livin' in chains I queued overnight to get tickets to see them play a secret gig in Nottingham around the time of mixed up. It was a tiny venue and incredible.
I hope you do get to see them live, they are incredible. I have seen them almost every time they have played Dallas since the 80s and they always blow me away.
Cette chanson fait parti de ma préférée du groupe best ever! Une mélancolie et une mélodie qui vient me toucher droit au coeur...plus de trente ans après la sortie de cette album! Special feeling! Un vrai génie ce Robert Smith!
I’m more of a rocker but something about the Cure mesmerizes me. I can listen to everything they do. The Figurehead maybe my favorite Cure song. “I will never be clean again”
That's the same about depeche mode. I'm more of a rocker too, but I listen to the cure and depeche mode for over 30 years now. Boys don't cry was my very first album that I held in my hands in '89. I got the tape from my mom for my 6th birthday.
I was never a Cure fan but in recent months their music and live performances have been growing on me. The Rolling Stones are another band I "get" also. I continue to grow more intelligent as I age
This takes me back 30 years when I first saw them. Such a great era in music. It would be nice to see the classic lineup one last time with Lol Tolhurst, Boris Williams, and Pearl Thompson. With everyone playing classic Fender and Gretsch instruments. Alas we can never go home again.

There's something to be said about the power of Smith's songwriting if a song he wrote and recorded over 30 years ago and performed countless times live can still bring such emotions out of him.
This song is just badass. From start to finish it's just balls to the wall energy and emotion and it just doesn't stop. And I like Robert's delivery here. It's a bit more melancholy than the album version and adds a bit of intimacy to it that typically isn't there. The album version is kinda rage and anger, this is more reflective and sad. Love em both.
Timeless real greats artists have created timeless masterpieces , evrthg with no ever doubt this times and foreve show us that the Cure are the greatest band in the world in all the ways and fotever
47 years old and been a massive Cure fan since my pre teen years and this song still rocks just as hard now as ever.. feel so blessed to have seen the Cure live several times..hoping to have a chance to take my 17 year old to experience this genius live !
The man is an icon. The song, a masterpiece. The band is so tight and on point. I’ll never tire of listening to this tune and thanks for the share. Audio = incredible!
This song transforms me to another place, my youth, when, so fondly, you were not only obsessed with a song but also simply a band, The Cure, and everything it encompassed...memories...Disinegration quite possibly the greatest album ever!!
5:45 bless this man. You can tell each song really resonates with him all these years later. How emotional they are to play for him. I hope Bob outlives us all!
My all time favorite Cure song. This album, along to Outside by Bowie changed my life. And yet, and don't get me wrong, but this is not my fav version of it. Smith's voice gets better and better, but I needed bit more of rawness. Hope I can take my children to one of their gigs.
Was lucky enough to see them in Cape Town this year. The most memorable thing was how ‘young’ and crystal clear Roberts pipes were. Almost strange 🌟 I also snuck into the sound check. Afterwards Robert was quickly lead past me to the promoters bus and driven out. I never imagined how big an impact the ‘visual’ of such an icon would be in reality, up close. His hair was gigantic!
Totally agree ! Although its played slower these days, they've finally improved the snare drum sound , adding more reverb and raising the keyboards in the mix....just like in 89 /90
I sure would like to meet him one day please come and play in North Carolina Charlotte or Gastonia I would love to see them in concert but I cannot go nowhere I guess I'll just see them on RUclips love you guys
My ..I would travel to the Carolinas to see them!!love it down there, got family in Florida,we actually landed in Charlotte as a layover to Jacksonville !!
In 1984 I was visiting distant relatives in Crawley with my sister and my best friend from Germany. We were there for a week and were extremely bored... We were teenagers, big fans of "The Cure". But we had no idea they lived here. It wasn't until many years later that we found out what chance we had missed of maybe meeting them there anywhere.
Not the most known song but definitely one of the the best songs they have ever made..the lyrics , the instrumentals, the emotion…the perfect nightmare
our radio station in 86 was going thru changes and they looped all songs at the same time every day for nearly a month. Thank our rock gods for giving me this song everyday at 7:05 extended version and introducing me to best under rated music ever.

THIS IS MY FAVORITE SONG!!! This beats out Deftones Needles and Pins (and I love that song). Any time I hear this song I go deep. Thank you for being such an influence in my life growing up.
“But I never said I would stay to the end “I knew I would leave you and fame isn't everything...” He really pours it all out in these lyrics. 💝Robert Smith
my favorite Cure song, favorite album. only concert i went to was the disintegration tour 1989, 30 years later i still remember you felt that bass thru your body
I've been listening to The Cure for over 35 years now, I always have goose bumps with certain songs.. this is one of them.
From the edge of the deep green Sea is another one...
And prayers for rain
I'm having this song played at my funeral
Same here - I was lucky to have seen them in Los Angeles in 1986. Still one of my favorite bands, along with Queen!
Agree, also Prayers for Rain & From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea.
Wow has it been that many years?
Love Cats was my introduction to them.
I was lost as soon as I saw the video.
Always been my favourite band, and always respected Robert Smith’s commitment to NOT conforming.
Even now.
He stays true to himself.
Such a rare thing then, and even more so now.❤
For me, Disintegration is their best album.
Yes and Kiss me k m km
This along with Pornography are their masterpieces.
Robert Smith is simply one of the greatest songwriters of all time.
Incredible Bass riff from Mr Gallup. A masterpiece in songwriting from Mr Smith.
Love Simon...he is.into it.😍
Love the bass line!
Check out "Under the Killing Moon" by Echo and the Bunnymen, it is a VERY similar bass line.

How am I smiling, tearing up and dancing at the same time. The Cure
Cuz it’s the CURE❤❤❤❤
The best song ever written. There will never be another band like The Cure their music has touched my soul and will forever be my favorite.
This...exactly.
I completely agree with you that this is the best song ever written by the best band that's ever existed, in my opinion.
I agree
But we will be forever blessed by his influence on so many other artists. Robert smith is forever
Robert has written so many but agree!
From Mexico to Argentina to Japan to Russia to USA to England....Cure fans are the best. And we love Robert and company.

No one compares. Disintegration is one of the top three albums ever! God Bless Robert and may he play til the end!
Not find me arguing with you there!
DISINTEGRATION IS BY FAR THE BEST CURE RECORD EVER!!!
idk pornography, seventeen seconds and faith are a lot better in my opinion
Disintegration was one their most underrated albums, yet I personally believe it was their best, especially in terms of the lyrics
By far the best The Cure song although not most popular song
Amazing lyrics...arguably these might be best lyrics ever.
they are the best lyrics ever

The first gig I saw after several cancer operations, and my favourite song by them. It always made me feel ALIVE to hear those bass notes, and still does
My favourite Cure track and my favourite live version. Such intensity. Wow.
right? brought tears to my eyes. how he can keep bringing the emotion... over and over and over... but still mean it? you said it. wow.
Brian McG My go to song, so bloody good.
Listen this version Live Cure 2008 Paris. So different and beautiful to. The bass is more intense.
Do yourself a favour and go listen Wembley Disintegration Tour.
In my opinion one of the best songs ever written.
Agree.
2021... nothings gets close to this wonderful MASTERPIECE.
2022, and still true!

All these years and these songs still hit him on a personal level at 5:53

Smith feels this every single time. Still makes him cry. Amazing.

I can never get enough of this song no matter how many times i've heard it. Robert Smith's voice is a fine wine.
The Entreat version has been my go to since I bought that cd somewhere around 1992. This version is just as fantastic. A true masterpiece.
IMO, the Entreat version is my favorite, hands down. The sped up tempo by Boris is absolutely jaw dropping. It just adds a whole new dimension to the song. Boris is just a genius on drums. The end always ends with love for the Cure.
What I love so much about this song is not just the melancholy feel of it, but how hypnotic those continuous chords and notes are. Beautiful track and one of my all time favorites
That "grinding" bassline! Love the entire thing, but that bass!!! 🤎🤎🤎🙃

Oh, I miss the kiss of treachery
The shameless kiss of vanity
The soft and the black and the velvety
Up tight against the side of me
And mouth and eyes and heart all bleed
And run in thickening streams of greed
As bit by bit it starts the need
To just let go my party piece
I miss the kiss of treachery
The aching kiss before I feed
The stench of a love for a younger meat
And the sound that it makes when it cuts in deep
The holding up on bended knees
The addiction of duplicities
As bit by bit it starts the need
To just let go my party piece
But I never said I would stay to the end
So I leave you with babies and hoping for frequency
Screaming like this in the hope of the secrecy
Screaming me over and over and over
I leave you with photographs, pictures of trickery
Stains on the carpet and stains on the scenery
Songs about happiness murmured in dreams
When we both of us knew how the ending would be
So it's all come back round to breaking apart again
Breaking apart like I'm made up of glass again
Making it up behind my back again
Holding my breath for the fear of sleep again
Holding it up behind my head again
Cut in deep to the heart of the bone again
Round and round and round and it's coming apart again
Over and over and over
And now that I know that I'm breaking to pieces
I'll pull out my heart and I'll feed it to anyone
I'm crying for sympathy, crocodiles cry
For the love of the crowd
And the three cheers from everyone
Dropping through sky
Through the glass of the roof
Through the roof of your mouth
Through the mouth of your eye
Through the eye of the needle
It's easier for me to get closer to Heaven
Than ever feel whole again
But I never said I would stay to the end
I knew I would leave you and fame isn't everything
Screaming like this in the hope of sincerity
Screaming it's over and over and over
I leave you with photographs, pictures of trickery
Stains on the carpet and stains on the memory
Songs about happiness murmured in dreams
When we both of us knew how the end always is

definitely. the tentative warble in his pitch here is trippy as fk. how he can still put intense soul into every note is mind blowing.

I knew I would leave you with babies and everything
Screaming like this in the hole of sincerity
Screaming me over and over and over
I leave you with photographs
Pictures of trickery
Stains on the carpet and
Stains on the memory
Songs about happiness murmured in dreams
When we both of us knew
How the end always is
How the end always is
Amazing Thoughtful lyrics. Bravo THE CURE!
