When the Tesla Model S and X first came out in Germany there were obviously Mercedes S class owners trying them out, and months later trading them back into the Mercedes dealerships - I was in the market for a second hand Model X and the surge in second hand Teslas was noticeable. I think they probably wanted to be green but missed the S class luxury too much. I first sat in the concept EQS at the Paris motor show - the same year that Model 3 was displayed - this is faithful to the version I saw. The EQS will clearly win with S class drivers and anyone else who can afford it, and with that wealth they won’t mind that it’s a bit thirstier. I want one too.

Yes same here. Came out of a fully loaded E63 into my Model S. I've had it three years and am now fed up with the lack of things "I want" rather than what Elon wants. It's a superb EV (been the best for years) just such a shame it's wrapped up in a flaky US quality car. This looks a great overall solution at a similar price point to "facelift" S.

I just had an EQS 580 for the whole day yesterday but unlike Bjorn it had the 19" super efficient tires and there is no model S that is this efficient or has this much range, it was truly impressive. I was driving in Germany on the Autobahn and went full speed whenever it was possible and at the end of the day the car was reporting around 25kw consumption after driving over 210 km/h whenever possible. (also a bit of city driving but mostly autobahn)
If I went 120km/h max which is still way faster than Bjorn can do in Norway it would have been propably under 20 kw easy and on winter tires in winter. Well german winter but still.
Whoever fitted those tires on Bjorn's press car has completely destroyed the efficiency. He should try to get hold of another EQS with proper tires and compare it.

@@Glomby Great to hear! Do you mean 20kWh? no kW? Yes 21" Winters seems like a spectacularly bad idea. I always have 21" Summer wheels and 19" Winters for mine, helps offset some of the range loss.

  • @huki11

Fortunately I had a 580 for a whole day yesterday from the local Mercedes dealer. Before I go into details: I am used to driving a S-class car for many, many years as my father always bought the latest model. So I can really compare the "old world" with the new world.
This car is so absolutely stunning, I want one right now! I live in Hamburg/Germany, so one of the first things I did was taking the car to the Autobahn. I have a Porsche 992 4S so I know accelaration. But when I put the pedal to the ground in the EQS it was shocking... in a positive way, as the accelartion started instantly, there was no "second of thoughts" like in a Porsche with a turbo. Really great. I am sure: the EQS was faster.
This car is unbelievably comfortable in all seats, I picked up my childs and they loved it to sit in the back, enjoying the space and the seats fitting like a glove. And the trunk is really, really big, so the car actually has a practicle use. The little child said: this car is in every point better than your Porsche, sell that one and buy this!
I you can drive this car... it really is the best at the moment! Amazing bulit qoaulity too.
BUT: when I took it back to the dealer suddenly there was no sound anymore, no music oder rado... nothing... from no source. I tried DAB and MP3 via bluetooth... nothing. Stopped the car, shut it down, restart... no effect. Strange. I tried to find out if maybe I made a mistake, but I didn't push any buttons when the music stopped. I am sure an update will fix this little problem.
    I'm in love, actually :-)

In a test by German magazine Auto Motor & Sport of the lower power, 1 motor, 2 wheel drive version of EQS (called 450+) the car was driven 640 km from Munich to Berlin on one charge and it had 40 km charge left upon arrival, implying a 680 km range real world highway range. The driver aimed at keeping the speed at 130 km/h during the drive. Lower power and slightly less weight (and possibly smaller wheels) means the 450+ goes approx. 80 km further than the 580 4MATIC Björn is testing here. In addition to the differences between the two versions, one also has take into account the fact that Björn is driving in sub-zero temperatures (-4 to -18 degrees Celsius) - the German test was done in summertime - and that the topography in Norway is very different to the Munich-Berlin autobahn stretch. Having analysed every test I’ve been able to find on the EQS - I am seriously considering switching my Tesla P85D for an EQS - my conclusion is that the EQS 580 4MATIC goes ~400-450 km on one charge on the highway in sub zero temperatures and ~550-600 km in the summer (the 50 km difference in each case captures differences in driving styles, topography and temperatures (big difference between -1 and, say, -20)). The highway range for the 450+ should be ~480-530 km in winter and ~630-680 km in the summer.

I believe the MB accepted the challenge to build what they consider the best option on that range of market for EV. They took their time and here is the result. All the companies are doing their efforts also but Mercedes make a great product. Only time will put every of those car where they belong in terms of costumers, but, EQS come very strong and it will make people which have those money to doubt between their choices. And that's a good news for costumers... more choices means more where to choose. I like it. Thanks Nyland for show us your feelings about this car. Hope you get to see this girl again!!!

Andreas, the test you are refering to was done by the German magazine Auto Motor & Sport and the car driven was the single motor, 2 wheel drive 450+. Lower power and slightly less weight means it goes further. Apparently around 80 km further than the 580 4MATIC Björn is testing here. You also have to take into account that the topography in Norway is very different to the Munich-Berlin autobahn stretch. Finally, the temperature in Björn’s test varies between -4 and -18 degrees Celsius. My conclusion, having analysed every test I could find on the EQS - as I am seriously considering switching my Tesla P85D for an EQS - is that the EQS 580 4MATIC goes around 400-450 km on one charge on the highway in sub zero temperatures and 550-600 km in the summer (the 50 km difference in each case is to capture differences in driving styles, topography and temperatures (big difference between -1 and, say, -20)). So I drove the EQS 450+ full option and I understand why you want it! It's amazing, stuff like when you stop at a traffic light it shows a video feed on the hyperscreen it was very handy a as some traffic lights in Belgium you can't see the light well when there are 3 lanes. The massage is amazing the wave massage moves up and down from butt to shoulders. The workout assistant makes you do exercises and in combination with the energize app it can monitor your heart rate! Fingerprint, face recognition and voice recognition to load your profile works great. The self driving in Belgium worked great even on normal city roads without lane markings it stays in the lane and adapts perfectly to the speed limits even at roadworks it read the signs and adjusted accordingly it also drove around cars that where park half on the road. The HUD is also great really feels like the arrows are really there as they follow the road and streets so well. The ride quality and comfort is next level I drive a very comfortable full option Audi A7 with air suspension and my A7 was much better than all other EV I tried like Hyundai ioniq 5, Kia ev6 and the BMW iX but the EQS is much better! Also my brother who has a jaguar i-pace ev400 was in love with this car he didn't want to come out of the car. Sure there are some quirks like the sometimes laggy videofeeds and ui lag but there is no better EV out there!!

Does anyone know if you still have to go through a traditional dealership - with an upselling salesperson - to buy a Mercedes EV? Can it be purchased like a Tesla, Rivian, or Lucid? I don't ever want to go through a dealership experience again.

I tried EQA And EQS although EQA smaller than EQS interior awesome but ofcourse 400-450km range big let down I believe in 5 years they will find a way to increase this range to 1000km, Its okay if you live in Europe all countries in Europe are small but when you live in Canada, The US or Australia you need range issues needs to be address. EQS 450+ looks good but twice expensive than EQA

Great car BUT when the video started there was this loud banging noise and it took a minute to figure out it was the indicator stalk resetting. All that sound proofing and they get a stalk from a truck 🙁. One new test you can try is take it to your local supermarket, park up and go and do some shopping. Question: Will it fit in a parking place. Will it still be there when you get back. How many dents will it have etc etc

This is from Mercedes' Press information regarding if the car has a heat pump or not (Page 55):
"A heating circuit for the interior is coupled with the powertrain cooling circuit. As soon as the heating
is on, the heat flows through the heating heat exchanger (small heating circuit, electric heater). If
waste heat is present in the powertrain, the system switches to the large circuit. Only if its heat is not
sufficient, for example at particularly low outside temperatures, is additional heat generated via the
high-voltage PTC booster heater (so-called register or series connection). Due to this efficient waste
heat utilisation, additional heating is often no longer necessary in the temperature range above 5°C,
    which occurs particularly frequently. "
    Link: media.mercedes-benz.com/article/a4bd32ba-7733-43ac-b866-4f76d4bb410c/(lightbox:document/278ff3a7-ac54-44bd-899d-a737af566b55)
Now im 99% sure the EQS has no heat pump as it uses a PTC booster heater, this partially explains why the consumption is relatively high in winter conditions.
