On german cars these lights always light up on startup. Has some hostoric reasons. Because in the early days it was important to know if all warning lights really work. This doesn’t mean that the 12V Battery is discharging or Stability Control is not working. These symbols just light up on startup to let you know that they work and you won‘t miss a failure, because the light is not working.
The TÜV checks whether all the lights are working during the mandatory inspection. The reason was people sometimes used to take out the bulbs to hide a fault and also bulbs just sometimes blew.
Fun fact, this is the same reason Tesla lights all the indicators on the LCD before the car starts. It's a mandatory "bulb test" that the FMVSS in the USA requires... yes, a "bulb test" on an LCD, but nonetheless it's required so Tesla do it.
You also test them in more complex aircraft, so you know when something is wrong.
Not just german cars, we had Lada and old time Skoda and it was the same and for the same reason...mandatory bulb test.
Every car does that, it isn’t to check the light bulb either, it is showing that the car is checking all these systems and when th3 light goes off it means that system is okay

I agree very profesional videos
Probably the first and last person to ever sleep in his EQS 😂 not quiet the target demographic
?
@@hepphepps8356 no one who is able to spent 140k for a den car will ever sleep in a car.
@@thomasp.7907 Exactly, average s-class buyer can afford a nice hotel room and also might need one with toilet because of age 😄
@@duderRechthat are there any leftover hotel rooms without en-suite facilities? In 2021 (almost 2022)? Norwegians are Vikings, but rich people are the same everywhere. They wouldn’t be caught dead near a hotel without suites.
@@superleggenda no, even the cheap hotels have a bathroom pretty much everywhere, my point was just that old people cannot camp in their s-class like our young spirit Bjorn can 😄
The anhängerkupplung and 12v battery check light just light up in ignition on mode to show that they are working. As long as they go away when you start driving, all is good. So they mean nothing with just iginition on.
How deep is your love. You got me there 😂
Tb is the only legit auto reviewer out there
I was in Mo I Rana a few days ago and quite impressed at all of the EV chargers they've installed at the Scandic. I'd say about 30% of all the parking spaces are now for EVs. Interesting times.
Love these road trip videos! Thanks Bjørn!
Cool video Bjorn. Thanks.
I especially like the shot of the real wheel steering at 36:00
35:46
Ha-ha, I loved the Christmas music brother. Your videos are so fun. I especially appreciate all your Norwegian elements & fun translations in some of your videos... mainly because both my grandparents immigrated from Norway 🇳🇴. I've always dreamed of getting to Norway too. Hey Felix!
Great tips on snow tires and pressure.
Cheers,
Eric
The landscape passing by moves so smooth...
Nice! Good video for a relaxed Sunday morning
"We can see, how deep is your love, ghm, trunk going!" ;) Also,as me here after some pause, music is still the strongpoint of Bjorn vids, Christmas music definitely helps in this time around!!! 🎇
I like that the tyre monitor shows temps. Vert useful.
Excellent road music.
Some amazing tech from merc specially those lights
Very Very Quiet Cabin !
51.5 dB at 70 ! Quieter than the Rolls Royce Phantom at 54dB at 70 !
The cool stuff about the headlight making a box around cars infront, volvo has been using that for a few years. I had in a xc60 t8 from 2019. I was amazed the first times.
Actually the fastest time in winter, pretty impressive
28:40 these signs have no meaning at all as long as they don‘t pop up while you‘re driving. Its like in an ice car when you only turn on the ignition half way through and all the warning lights turn on, its just purely software, the battery is not being discharged nor is the tow bar coming out.
Much better music than the last videos :D Also, awesome car. I'd love to see how the 450+ works with 20 or 19 wheels.
Bjorn, if I had the money. You have sold me on the Mercedes It is beautiful and suite. I haven’t heard you so excited about another car.
They used powerful processor but the infotainment is still laggy. Shows that optimisation is very important.
Agree, they need to work on the UX design as well - its not all about real estate.
@@G_man_ It has the Nvidia Xavier 8 core ARM processor with 24GB RAM and 512 CUDA cores, around 11 TFLOPS (similar to PlayStation 5 performance). Having a laggy map with this hardware speaks volumes about Samsungs software department (they wrote the software…). Keep in mind Tesla uses an Intel Atom with about 10x less graphical power and has a smooth map.
@@deurkl Is that used for the infotainment system or is it for adas? Seems like overkill for infotainment.
@@theipc-twizzt2789 It’s also used for the self driving features. Which indeed explains the performance issues, I found that the infotainment runs in a separate container with limited resources available to guarantee system stability.
The light is realy awesome!
32:10 You have to wait until the exterior lights turn completly of and than it does a „turn off“-light show. When unlock the car after its „turn-off“-light show you can see the „turn-on“-light show again
I hope we'll soon hear your latest hit record "How deep is your trunk" :-)
Just caught up with this video, good stuff! The Blue Whale, for sure. The seats are even a bit whale :-)
The charge curve on this thing is very impressive.
Bjørn, I have to thank you for your informative videos. Just ordered my first electric car (Tesla Model 3) because of you… Never been more excited. :D Tesla should hire you as a representative, but then I bet the videos wouldn’t be as unbiased as they are now.
This car seems sooo comfy ❤
Excellent journey. Super review.
Those roads are a dream to drive on, but alot nicer in the summer :)
What you could do with the way the preheating works atm is you could let the car plan the route and then go in and replace the charging stops individually. That should work
10:46 How deep is your love? No! How deep is your trunk?🤣🤣🤣
Great looking car. Aweful looking Mercedes.. If you know, you know. Love the video. Keep it up.
Cool headlights!!
The more I see the more I like - the EQS - so spacey and modern.
Looks like old-people car to me :(
@@avirbd give it a time and wait until you saw it in person.
@@avirbd it’s not
@@bavariancarenthusiast2722 looks only good in the interior. Exterior looks terrible
@@CheaterMega not really, it looks pretty cool and modern
Great car and test 👍😁 finally I need to know how to sleep in the car that costs like a nice cabin.;)
Thanks for yet another great video Björn. What a nice car and great EV.
35:40 Shooting star 🌠
Shooting star at the 35:40 mark. Tire pressure is always set at cold stationary. The pressure is suppose to be much higher while driving and is of no concern. So when you were adjusting the tire pressure while the tires reading 0 degs in -15 degs ambient, you should not be letting air out. Only adding if below minimum cold pressure value.
10:46 I subbed because of that 🤣
10:49 - it looks like a GIGANTIC PLAYSTATION 5! 😂
This turn rear wheel is amazing
It has Quad Steering on it. That is crazy.
This was very entertaining. I love road trips. The EQS is a pretty lady.
I'm going on my first major winter road trip after Christmas they are predicting -27c for the highs ,1700km trip wish me luck, hope the mach e doesn't charge like crap lol
Excellent music
Love the EQS
Awesome music
Mercedes es insuperable!!
high consumtion not a big issue with fast charging & big batt:)
It seems that in Norway, there is no traffic at all although nice test overall :)
Alles Gut, Anhängerkupplung, 😂👍
Damn, already that cold.
I think the 47kW is the "fallback" charging speed when something is "not ideal" within the DCFC charger. I see that all the time here in the US on Electrify America. Maybe cable cooling is broken or something.
Tusen takk for bruken av musikken min Bjørn 🥳🥳 (tid 18.40)
thats a cool car
as it's a german car it will run a 50hz display. This means that the Camera needs a multiple of that as a shutterspeed. I.e. 1/50 shutterspeed or 1/250
soo much lovely roads at night man
Best comfort out there
Looks like the battery charger port is on the correct side in this video, unlike your other video which said its on the wrong side. I suppose you can't have it all ways.
epicness
This car seems really impressive. But I was checking it’s price here in Denmark and it’s completely nuts. Much more expensive than a Tesla model S Plaid. Almost 2 times more expensive.
yeah same here in australia, its very expensive. however eqe, sedan and suv are coming out at much less cost.
That’s wierd, the base version of the EQS is 97800 Euros in Germany and 127000 Euros for Model S Plaid…
@@marcmech1 mercedes may have local tax breaks.
I think you will get it to preheat the battery for the places you want to stop and charge if you tell the navigation where you want to stop and charge and not just let the navigation decide the route based on your final destionation.
No, it won't. Watch 1000 km challenge.
Kia EV does the job! :) I driving the Stinger now but later the EV. Regards from Finland.
It was Nice hè bought your dinner
EQS screen is OLED. That might be why it’s flickering on your camera. Thanks for the journey!
Hi Bjørn, look at the column header for the listed tire pressure. For your tire size and weight, note the arrow pointing to the front and rear tire. Front = 2.6 Rear = 2.9
No, that's with 22". For 19" - 21" it's 2.6 both front and rear.
That's for full load.
The pinch to zoom on the screen is horrible. The interior is cool looking though.
You don’t have to deduct anything. It is just relaxing trip to Mo i Rana not a 1000 km challenge :->
Great car!
Of course we have to deduct. We do it with all cars.
I wonder if it wants you to charge between Steinkjer and Mo i Rana as it's programmed to take regular stops for driver breaks?
I like the EQS in BiColor Style.
Why does the infotainment interface look like windows media player from 15 years ago?
It’s so bad.
bjorn da man
Man Norway is so beautiful
I would like that car!! 😀
greets from Germany
Go TESLA !
Try this again at +16-20 it will break 1st place ? or calculate it? Does it loose like 20% range at temps that low?
you were in Sandnes Kvadrat a couple of weeks before? I saw this mercedes parked. Anyway then I liked my P85 more :)
No
When I saw the blue Ikea bag I somehow felt connected.
Expensive!!!
Just a question, is the heat capability just as blistering hot as in a ICE engine? I usually in subzero winter temps have the heat on HI first to warm the cabin then i reduce temps, I got the BMW model i4 m50
Was that a shooting star at 35:42 ☄️
Yes
Will you get to test the version with 780km range?
Does anyone know why are there two infrared lights on the dashboard? Left and right from three red icons on top. 11:43
Those 'purple' lights can't be seen with the naked eye
Such a nice car but the software experience reminds me of the old Nokia - Symbian ways. I would go crazy after a week.
Software is so bad it hurts. Windows Vista Media Player.
Yeah it looks a bit dated, but the target demographic for this car are old white dudes who can afford a 90k+ car and in that's what it's made for
Vmgreat video, valuable info. If I ever buy this car I will have to sleep in it so good to know
The car looks beautiful, but watching the last part of the video I couldn’t stop thinking: how many buttons and how much information at the same time. I am not a great fan of Tesla’s nestled menus, but there is just a handful of info a driver needs, and can actually use, when driving. Looks like Mercedes went for: a button for every function, and let’s display everything at the same time. Isn’t it a bit confusing?
Love your german mate 😂
How deep is your love 🤣🤣👍
Matrix headlights :)
Cool video!
Wondering if you actually need to cover the windows with insulation, since the car should be very insulated as is.
EDIT: Well I guess you need to block out the sun. Would the builtin curtains be enough for that?
Also, wouldn't the back seat be more comfortable in fully reclined mode than any bed you can buy?
:P
Windows covers are necessary for privacy as well as insulation.
why not 4K videos? what happen there?
Looks like driving this car in very bad conditions it's like driving a normal car in a Summer day at 60klm holy shit this is really good
Correct me if I'm wrong.. men Kilo = tusen ja?
Do you think the lack of a heat pump in the EQS is causing such a relatively high consumption? Mercedes claims they don‘t need a heat pump because they can harvest the heat from different parts of the drive train. I somehow don‘t believe them entirely, especially not at these demanding temperatures. What do you think ?
This car has heat pump.
I also thought it lacked heatpump, definitely would have explained winter consumption but I guess it doesn't add much then.
@@bjornnyland every source i could find online states the EQS has no heat pump and i heard in an interview a Mercedes guy saying that the EQS doesn’t need one as the new platform is thermally efficient enough (will try and find the vid)…just like the EQE won’t have one either. Unlike the EQC and EQA that have heat pumps as they have a completely different ICE derived drive train.
So either Mercedes changed that with no proof i can find online or someone gave you false information by mistake i guess.
@@bjornnyland Bjorn, are you actually sure the EQS has a heat pump? Cause i as well read that it doesn't have one xD
I've heard the 2024 new version will have heat pump.
You'd think they would include some nice performing CPU for the navigation but nope, you only get a laggy mess of a UX.
I suppose your type 2 didn’t have anything to do with charging rather than discharging something.
