Good job not swerving to avoid the animal. Seems to be a default reaction for so many people: they see something in the road and jerk the wheel like crazy, usually resulting in them crashing into another car, landing in a ditch or (in most SUVs) ending up on their roof. Better to run over the animal than crash your car. I’ve seen people crash their cars trying to avoid rodents in the road. (Big animals like moose or deer might be a different story)

@@davidmenasco5743 right, it’s not a fad there. in fact, it’s less than a fad. nio’s share of the bev-market in china is maybe 2% and stagnating at best. a nio store rep told me, about half of the buyers opt for battery leasing (swapping). how relevant do you think is battery swapping for the other 98+% of ev drivers in china?

  • @johnm2879

You have no chance when animals bolt out directly in front of the car. Chipmunks are the worst as they seem to wait until the last possible moment and then charge straight across leaving no time to react daytime or nighttime. You can look for the gleam of their eyes from the headlights but this doesn't always work. Moose don't bother looking because, hey, it is their forest and their road and a moose's rear end has zero reflectivity and the colouring is perfectly camouflaged. Do your best but don't feel guilty if you hit something because sometimes it is absolutely unavoidable.
