  • We've been busy restoring the film 'Rock'n'Roll' over the last 6 months and its finally ready for the big wide world. We hope you enjoy this clip taken from the film, sung by the king of Australian rock'n'roll, Johnny O'Keefe. Get along to a screening and get those toes atappin' and those knees aknockin' !
Visit www.rocknroll19... to find screening dates/locations and buy tickets.
Its our aim to screen Rock'n'Roll in all major cities. First stop is Sydney at the Dendy Newtown Cinemas complex (Cinema 8) - tickets are only available through our website.
Rock'n'Roll, directed by the pioneering Australian director Lee Robinson, and commissioned by the legendary promoter Lee Gordon, was the only 35mm feature-length film of a live Rock'n'Roll concert ever made in the 1950s. Moreover, it is arguably the only piece of 35mm Rock'n'Roll live footage from the 1950s in existence, since The Pied Piper of Cleveland (the only other 35mm live film shot in this decade) is considered to be lost by many researchers.
The sole surviving copy of the film surfaced in March 2020 in Melbourne, Victoria. It subsequently screened in an unrestored format at ACMI on December 6, 2021, the first time in over 50 years.

Oh this is fantastic I have the best memories of seeing Johnny singing Shout at Festival Hall in Melbourne, and other venues, and screaming myself hoarse. He was nothing to look at, and didn't really have a good voice, but OMG could he get the audience worked up..

Greates version of shout on this world. Jok was from another planet when he put this down just unreal. To see him at his very best. Others have tried even the orginal by the eley brothers doesnt come cvlose to jok the dee jays and delltones. A classic combo. Top performance and act. Shout parts one and two. Long lve jok s shout. Geoff steele aged 76 now. Sill rockin to jok and shout. Long live rock n roll and my love of jok. And. Rock n roll magic era of musicade. So much better for jok. And lee gordon. Festival records. The big shows. And jok s six oclock rock tv show. That gave teenager a tv show to rock too.

Great stuff! Now a nice clean video of this song.
Notice the bass player playing a Hofner a few years before a well known bassist first got one.
When will it be shown in Melbourne again?
