Lets Have a Party', performed by Australian rock'n'roll legend Lonnie Lee, is our second official release of a colourized clip since our experimentation with colourizing ‘Swanee River’ a couple of years ago on our channel.
At 83 (going on 55) Lonnie's career remains as energetic and creative as ever. One of the earliest pioneers of the big beat sound and widely regarded as the pioneer of Rockabilly in Australia, he was captivated by Elvis in his early teens years. By the mid 50s, Lonnie was skilled enough to perform enough on stage and from that day he never looked back. His career remains one of the most enduring both in Australia and internationally.
Via regular appearances on mid century Australian TV programs in Six O'Clock Rock and Bandstand, Lonnie would become a household name and is still entertaining his fans to this day.
Quite simply, Lonnie Lee is an irreplaceable figure head in Australia's cultural past and present. With his memory and curiosity as sharp as ever, one can spend hours talking to him about his experiences and wisdom gained over many years. And just as impressively, he remains as approachable and unassuming as the day he first walked on stage 65 years ago.
All the songs from the film will be colourized and stored in our ‘Rock’n’Roll Jukebox’ playlist as the year progresses.
While some traditionalists would prefer the film stayed true to its original state, we suspect the ever progressive Lee Gordon would have welcomed colour with expectant enthusiasm and a hint of impatience.
