In fact, of all the legendary rock stars of the '50's, only Elvis Presley, Fats Domino, The Everly Brothers and Ricky Nelson(if you include him in that group, instead of with the "teen idols") had more top ten pop hits with Rock songs back then.
Chuck's mom empathized that he speak standard commonly spoken English. He was a huge talent and kudos for Mr. Nice Guy Dick Clark for hosting so much homegrown talent. Chuck was a genius.

So glad my parents exposed me to so much great music as a kid!
Amazing all these masterpieces by Chuck scored so low on the hit parade. He was 36 places ahead of his time.
But even with that, he still scored 5 top 10 hits on the Billboard pop chart within the decade of the 50's, which is more than Little Richard, Bill Haley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins, Sam Cooke, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Ritchie Valens and even Ray Charles had within that decade.
One of the greatest guitarist and entertainer of all times. The King of rock and roll.
