The reason is that if they are dumping a load and a piece of garbage hits the camera, or if the truck hits a big bump in the road, the camera could fall into the hopper. I am glad that you got with your supervisor to help you get your camera out. This is why I prefer the in-cab ride along videos.
Patrick Richmond Just going to mention, I believe lots of garbage truck companies require cameras, for things like to see if the hopper is full, or if something is stuck.
Looks like it wound up with a fair amount of blank footage! :D Your next camera purchase should include one that you can ping from another device so as to make locating it a lot faster! :D
