  • @MFEGoingDeep this spot has always intrigued me and been wanting to have a look here. The Milford Dam and its fish lift is a passage that migrating fish have to take to continue their trek upstream. Specifically in this instance this is where Atlantic Salmon receive the adipose fin punch used to help identify them and are counted as they’re passed on above the Dam. I needed shallow water to be able to get to the center of the river and find some slower water to pilot the drone in so my timing might have been a little bit late but I did manage to get some quick footage of a couple Atlantic Salmon waiting for their turn to take a ride on the lift which was neat to see! Smallmouth Bass were plentiful as was expected. As of June 10th the count from the Dam for Atlantic Salmon that had been passed on upstream this year was nearing 900, which is nice to see this iconic species making returns in good numbers!

Be careful if you do! Lots of weird and strong current around there.

Nice footage. I didn't quite spot it in your video but there was some major erosion under the dam that was noticed and repaired just a few years ago, so some major repair areas along there. Nice clips of salmon. Unfortunately you missed river herring and shad season, although they probably would mostly stay in the current on the milford side.

Thanks! I didn’t notice a big repaired area it all seemed to blend in so not sure if I had viewed that spot or not. I was glad to see those salmon, I wasn’t sure if I would like you said I also thought they might be concentrated more in the current on the Milford side but it worked out. I’ll have to time another visit earlier next spring to coincide with some of the other runs when they happen!

Very cool man! Too bad you didn't get to see any stripers.. you should try down to Bucksport. Lots of aquatic life there!

Thanks! I did see a bunch of Stripers on the Kennebec in the prior video. Was just at Craig Pond in Orland and while driving home I was right along the river in Bucksport and thinking the same thing.

I only to day dream a salmon there. I live a mile from it.. I fish it all the time. ..bass only. Was that salmon the first shots? could not tell precisely. I hope there is...

I don’t have a name for it, something I made for the video using GarageBand app.
