Colin Farrell is completely unrecognizable as the Penguin. If you showed me that picture and told me to guess who the actor was, I’d have said “Richard Kind.”
Was honestly worried we were going to continue to modern trend with Penguin designs when Colin Farrell was cast. Was definitely presently surprised to see he looks exactly how Penguin should look. At least face wise. I kind of wish we would get a Batman movie that would use the more comic bookish costume designs. I want Oswald with a monocle and top hat.
I'll be honest, I honestly couldn't tell whether Oswald was fat or not when I saw the trailer. I get the feeling this could be a decent alternate take on him.
The blonde Penguin actually fits the version since he looks a lot like an actual penguin’s physical look and some penguins have golden hair in some types so I think that explains it As for my favorite design, I’d go with either BTAS, Golden Age, Pain & Prejudice or 66, Penguin is one of my favorites characters in fiction and has a very creative looking design which is why I have a lot of favorite designs
I made a Design where he's similar to an Italian Style Gangster with a little Moustache but still has some of his usual Design Gimmicks like his Monocle and Pointy Noise
Penguin is my Fav Bat Baddy. He is the one I can relate to the most. Would love to see his "Character" get a reboot. Go back to his more Thrill Seeking Glory Hog and Smart Ass type. The type who just lives for Fun and Adventure, albiet in a criminal and cruel way. A True Napoleon style. Unlike the Riddler who wants to Prove He is smarter then everyone. Penguin already KNOWS He is smarter then every one and treats Gotham like his own game baord. It is just there to amuse him.
@@King_Nex - Haha, these little fellas look awesome, you're right, *The Batman* 's Penguin is very likely based of that particular species! Well, with the new movie coming up, we'll have to get used to calling that cartoon (and the *Batman vs Dracula* movie) the *Matsudaverse* Batman, as many Bat-fans have already been doing over the years.
I don't know who the artist is but whoever drew Oswald back in Batman/Detective Comics New 52 did a phenomenal job. Definitely up there in my favorite designs
About time the Tim Sale design gets recognition. I think it’s probably my favorite, although I’m pretty sure he still had the long nose; it was just much more thin and narrow, almost making it look more like a mosquito
I really like The Batman (tv show) and Movie. The show I think went with a macaroni penguin design, hense the yellow hair. The movie I'm my opinion works great as the mob boss/gangster style which is my favorite version of the character.
The Penguin is a facinating character - I often wonder how they thought up such a strange villain - He is one of those characters that seems like he was always meant to be. ( I think the initial design was inspired by the mascot for Kool Cigarettes). Also the Batman Returns Penguin was very good although different.
Always awesome to see a classic series make a comeback especially when it features the buccaneer of birds. I generally agree on how the Penguin should be design-wise but I also really like the Gotham/Telltale versions for their characterization.
when I was drawing my take on the penguin I took a lot of inspiration from the jokers asylum penguin, specifically how his eye Color glows through the Monocle while the majority of his upper face was shadowed by his hat was just perfect. It made it all the more attimadating when he had a malevolent glare.
Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot is my favorite villain in Batman's Rogue's Gallery. I've seen designs I love and some I can't stand. Robin Lord Taylor was a good Penguin with his only failing, in my opinion, was not being rotund which padding around the belly could've fixed. I could forgive the height because Burgess Meredith wasn't particularly short either. Speaking of Burgess Meredith, that would have be my favorite design for the character.
I liked that the TMNT Penguin had a multi=colored umbrella like the SUPER POWERS action figure by Kenner. Yeah, Cobblepot from GOTHAM (I know the actor has a name but damned if I can recall it) looks more like if Terrant-era DR. WHO did an "evil mirror-world" episode than the Penguin.
Oh yeah. Mr Rogues, how's it going? So I wanted to know if you could at some point cover the amalgam universe since, despite it being well known for the fact that it's a combo universe of both the DC and Marvel Universe, it's extremely strange and it'd be interesting to see how you would potentially react to some of the characters in it. Maybe a top 5 strangest amalgam characters I know that definitely something like Doctor Doomsday (Doomsday + Dr Doom) or Bizzarnage (Carnage + Bizzaro). Now I haven't seen it in action but there is plenty of potential for a very entertaining and threatening villain. Plus there's Dare The Terminator (Deathstroke + Daredevil) and that could be very awesome to see based on the idea alone knowing both of the characters skills and also the contrasting morals of the two with me wanting to see how they would clash together in this amalgam Also of course there's Darkclaw, The Green Skull (Lex Luthor + The Red Skull), and so many other strange and unique ideas

They just stand out in a weird way. 4. Obviously. Not much to say about it. Best live action Penguin we got. 3. NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! Why did they make Penguin a sewer mutant?! It's not even Penguin anymore! It's more like the Mole Man from Fantastic Four. I HATE this one with a passion. 2. Like you said... "This IS Penguin!" 1. A fair choice. Not as good as Pain and Prejudice in my opinion. Of course that is all my opinion. I might hate Batman Returns, but many love it, and I can't fault them for it.
Penguin has consistently had great designs overtime in all his incarnations. I’m so happy that for The Batman, they have made the amazing effort to make Colin look like Oswald from the comics, and not the modern skinny dude in a tuxedo look. To me, the design looks most inspired by Pain in Prejudice mixed with the stature of 60s-70s Penguin.
Golden Age is my favorite but arkham and Chuck Dixon are up there for making him work in modern times, when anyone wearing his old outfit would automatically be seen as a prankster. That kind of outfit hasn't been remotely normal for at least 50 years.
Great video. The Penguin now for a fairly long time has surpassed Da Junkre as my favorite Batrogue and he has some pretty memorable designs. Especially the Jokers Asylum one it’s such a nice blend of freaky, scary and even kinda cute imo. Though I gotta say I have a soft spot for the Gotham design. Truth be told he looks very different but I feel like the important parts of the character are translated. He is still a freak and a often mocked outsider now just due to his pale skin and his crippled walk. The Penguin is my favorite Batman villain and one of my favorite villains overall, so I was hyped as hell for this list and, as always, it was worth it. My favorite design for Oswald was actually his mid-90's look, with the white suit. That was the time he felt the most powerful, being able to be above Batman's radar and even forcing him to tolerate his activities (I also love that cane with a bird's head on top that he used in some stories, just fits him so perfectly) My top 10 would be: 1 The Mid-90 look; 2 The Animated Series version; 3 The Penguin Triunphant design, by Joe Staton; 4 The Golden Age design 5 The Eduardo Risso design (from Broken City, my favorite "monster Penguin" look) 6 The Joker Asylum look 7 The Tim Burton look; 8 The 60's TV show look; 9 Golden Age Penguin 10 Silver Age Penguin Again, thank you for the awesome list!
got to go with returns penguin even as a kid i liked the design. my second favorite version is the arkham city look from the broken hand bandaged up and resembling a flipper to the broken beer bottle jammed in his eye to give him a more grotesque monocle.

I don't think the Penguin was ever in the cards for Chris Nolan anyway. He said that he would have had difficulty adapting him which I've always found odd because Id think hed fit that world perfectly without having to make any real changes at all.
The Penguin from The Batman has orange hair, not blonde. Some penguins have orange or yellow feathers on the side of their heads like the macaroni penguin and the rockhopper penguin.
I like your take. As much as i love Robin Lord Taylor's portrayal of the Penguin, he doesnt look the part. Granted, its possible for a handsome young man to gain weight and lose the good looks later in life, but i would've appreciated if Taylor had at least gotten a nose prosthetic to give him a resemblance to the traditional Cobblepot
Perfect live action Penguin: “Gotham” personality + “Batman Returns” design and lack of social skills + “The Batman” skin tone = Best Penguin adaptation making an isolated character forced in the sewers by his cruel abusive rich father for his disfigurement only being loved by his mother and the penguins he found himself surrounded by; trying his best to fit in with society and acting like a gentleman choosing crime because that’s where he feels most accepted.
I love these videos on the designs of the characters, maybe later you should do Killer croc, mr freeze, and two face designs. Favorite Penguin was Tim sales
Take Tyrion Lannister. The ugly version from the books. Remove the compassion and crank up the anger up to eleven, and the pride to a hundred and eleven. Throw in a bit of Joe Pesci in Goodfellas and a bit of Evil Oscar Wilde in for good measure, and you've got the Penguin.
For me you put all of my favorites on the list 1. Joker's Asylum 2. Batman vs TMNT 3. Tim Sale 4. Batman Returns look 5. The Batman 2021 might top it idk why. The white penguin should be something I like more. But Colin Farrell penguin is just something I like more so he's actually 4 not Danny davito who is 5 ?. Robin Lord Taylor wardrobe wise. Color wise but I'd say my favorite outfit he was in was the sleeveless danny davito one. The penguin is one of the few the Batman designs I don't like. I love the joker and bane and ivy and more but not him. And two face and scarecrow an hatter and Ras were only not in the show due to studio interference.
@@mr.magpie2 he has said in the past that he liked the characterization of the Penguin in the Arkham games but he wasn't crazy about the design, specially the beer bottle stuck in his eye
Honestly the Gotham cobblepot doesn't bother me. I too lean more towards the monster in gentleman's clothes but I like the actor they picked. Plus the did place him in the penguin regalia towards the end Honestly? Telltale penguin is FAR worse. A forgettable pawn in an otherwise unique take on the Batman mythos
Great list! I don’t dislike any of them, and we seem to agree on what makes a great Penguin design. 10. TNBA design 9. Batman TAS design 8. The Batman (cartoon) design 7. Golden Age design: I actually really like the cartoony aspect to this Penguin. He looks a lot like a Tracy villain (Broadway Bates specifically), which really calls back to Batman’s roots in pulps and comic strips. 6. Pain & Prejudice design: You want to make the Penguin scary without making him some sort of sewer mutant, this is how you do it. 5. Tim Sale design 4. Batman Vs. TMNT design: The elf ears also kinda bug me, but I really like everything else about this design. 3. Joker’s Asylum design 2. Burges Meredith design 1. Silver/bronze age design: If ya ask me, this IS the Penguin.
Well I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with most of your list. A monstrous looking Penguin is a bad looking Penguin. He should be someone whos intellect and upper crust birth make him think he's sauve and classy. He dosen't realize most people think of him as a funny looking jerk. He should not be an elephant man desperate to look normal. So I will put Burgess in second, silver age at the top, and Devito isn't even on the list. But a good video once again.
This was a good list and video, but I'm afraid you're missing one of the best Penguin designs, the one from Alyas Batman En Robin. In that film, Penguin had a classic costume, along with a comically short umbrella and huge cigarette holder.
i was a big fan of penguin as a kid (still am) but also he was by far my favorite rogue. never liked the tas design. going further, in fact, i've never really seen the returns penguin as the same character as normal penguin, they're 2 different characters in my eyes
Colin Farrell is completely unrecognizable as the Penguin. If you showed me that picture and told me to guess who the actor was, I’d have said “Richard Kind.”

For me you put all of my favorites on the list
1. Joker's Asylum
2. Batman vs TMNT
3. Tim Sale
4. Batman Returns look
5. The Batman 2021 might top it idk why. The white penguin should be something I like more. But Colin Farrell penguin is just something I like more so he's actually 4 not Danny davito who is 5
So you're not a fan of the Arkhamverse version's looks then? I thought he was pretty good.
He probably forgot it. Everyone loves that version
Plus the did place him in the penguin regalia towards the end
Honestly? Telltale penguin is FAR worse. A forgettable pawn in an otherwise unique take on the Batman mythos
Why the Penguin should be Batmans arch nemesis
5 overlooked Lex Luthor stories
(Just suggestions)
I think your Luthor suggestion already exists
Edit: It does. ruclips.net/video/UIZz02If2SE/видео.html
@@Victor-qx3vx yeah but at the end of that video he says he could make another (I'm just a big fan of Luthor 😅)
@@thelittlemanfromthedraftbo6805 oh ok.
Great list! I don’t dislike any of them, and we seem to agree on what makes a great Penguin design.
10. TNBA design
9. Batman TAS design
8. The Batman (cartoon) design
5. Tim Sale design
4. Batman Vs. TMNT design: The elf ears also kinda bug me, but I really like everything else about this design.
3. Joker’s Asylum design
2. Burges Meredith design
1. Silver/bronze age design: If ya ask me, this IS the Penguin.
waugh
Well I'm afraid I'm going to have to disagree with most of your list. A monstrous looking Penguin is a bad looking Penguin. He should be someone whos intellect and upper crust birth make him think he's sauve and classy. He dosen't realize most people think of him as a funny looking jerk. He should not be an elephant man desperate to look normal. So I will put Burgess in second, silver age at the top, and Devito isn't even on the list. But a good video once again.
It's not blond, it's orange.
With The Batman (2004), his hair looks orangish to me.
Blonde hair? 4:50 It's clearly red (orange) and i think that it looks okay, think of one of those whiskered penguins...
🥰
👍
This was a good list and video, but I'm afraid you're missing one of the best Penguin designs, the one from Alyas Batman En Robin. In that film, Penguin had a classic costume, along with a comically short umbrella and huge cigarette holder.

i was a big fan of penguin as a kid (still am) but also he was by far my favorite rogue. never liked the tas design.
going further, in fact, i've never really seen the returns penguin as the same character as normal penguin, they're 2 different characters in my eyes
Idk the comic version of the penguin is incredibly boring to me I prefer the other media
Is the Penguin jewish?
