SPECIAL and POI cards can definately fit into a lot of different decks, but they don't really fit into any of the Fallout decks (bar the Equipment tutor and Anger for Dogmeat) nor are the cards really worth playing in the first place. Stax is it's own deck entirely so if you're not looking to build Stax anytime soon, skip it, but if you feel like at some point you will, it's a no brainer as the Staxs cards barely see and reprints.
Command beacon when it came out was put into every deck I saw, now this video reminded me I should maybe put it into a deck I'm making. The fallout art feels weird on magic cards, it was very good for being used in the game. Funny how we don't even have all of the cards being sold for the secret lair for tomorrow.
I honestly don't remember ever seeing it. Homeward Path is a land I remember seeing lots of when it first came out, and now it's no where to be seen too 😂
@attackoncardboard I'd assume it's because it was initially only in a commander pre-con, then didn't have an easily accessible re-print until Commander Legends, which kept the price out of any reasonable budget.
That mana vault thing is so scummy. Isnt the whole point of secret lair that you can buy specific cards straight from wotc without having to rip wrappers or deal with the secondary market? Has this sort of thing ever happened in secret lair before? Also is this a print to order run or is it the new norm secret lair with limited quantity? If its the latter scalpers have even more incentive to buy these up, and honestly they should have just put a mana vault in all of them as an apology to the nonscalpers who actually manage to get it.
We've technically had the mana vault thing for ages with the random Silent Petitioners/Shadowborn apostles hidden in random SLs and they're worth far more than Mana Vault. As far as we know, this will be on the new preprinted/limited quantity model instead of the print to order model they were using previously. Previous SL took a few days before things started selling out, but it might be different here.
this is nothing new to secret lair they have had the chance for lottery cards in secret lair ever sense it started. 1st big lottery card was the mirrored Viscera Seer that was serialized. they have done a few others times look up persistent petitioners, relentless rats and shadowborn apostle they all have printings from secret lair that were all lottery cards gotten as a replacement for the normal bonus card
I honestly just think theyre pretty loll Ive never altered/made a deck so i wouldnt even know they were "bad" for decks. Info was solid though!! Good to know these things
Totally understand. I generally review cards on "play-ability" and "bang for buck" because I personally aim to put them into decks 😅 I can't really judge the art because it's different for everyone 😃
I hate that such a scummy company makes a game I've loved all these years. That mana vault is the entire reason they all are nearly sold out within 2 days. You can't even blame the scalpers, investors, or secondary sellers for this. There wouldn't be any issues if Wotc didn't create the ability for them to basically screw average customers over. Yes, the people who take advantage of this are not entirely blameless, but they wouldn't be able to do this as easily if Wotc handled how they sold these things better to begin with.
If you buy the bundle that contains the 3 Fallout bundles. You'll get the 3 corresponding bonus cards. 2x Wastes and 1x Codec Shredder and if you're lucky, one might be a Mana Vault
Each of the "Lairs" come in their own little box. Inside that box will be the cards including the bonus card. If you order the complete bundle you'll get 3 boxes that each come with their bonus card :) and each with their own chance to get a Mana Vault
I like fall out cartoons so I got this just for art. Non foil of course bc foil makes it hard to see art. Fabled passage is the best card for land fall decks with multiple copies... I didn't even know it was in there nice
Which take? Command Beacon seeing no play? According to EDHRec it's in 5% of decks. Bojuka Bog being niche graveyard hate? It can only be played in decks running black and decks caring about lands. Reflecting Pool being an OK land that isnt really required in any deck? 6% of decks... Fabled Passage being a niche Lands matter card? Top Commanders for that card are all "Lands matter" decks. Reliquary Tower being a bad $1 card? How is it good? If you're ending a turn with 7+ cards in hand during the mid or late game, you're winning anyway. Tower doesn't make a difference.
It's the next step in a Blue Mage's journey, we're the last line of defence against all these free spells being printed. When a dockside hits the stack, do the players turn to the Green Mage? 🤣
Avoid this scummy grift! OK I like fall out as much as anybody, BUT what where they smoking with these prices? The "S.P.E.C.I.A.L." deck (7) non/foil cards $30/40 which is about $4.30/$5.70 per card, not to bad I guess for quality art, but then we come to the next set "Points of Interest" deck (5) non/foil cards $30/40 then the price jumps to $6.00/$8.00 per card, WTF? its the same art style same card material, then we get the last set "Vault Boy" (5) non/foil cards $30/40 and the price skyrockets to $7.50/$10.00 per card, WTH! are the suddenly made from Strontium 90? If I wanted to be scalped I'd go to eBay. I was so wanting to get these cards. But $40 for 4 cards, NFW!
Honestly, the logic of using the card values you are reprinting to determine the card value of secret lairs is idiotic. None of them have been valued at the value of the reprints, and many are valued multiples higher. Because comparing a limited edition version of a card is not the same thing as the base card. I hate that this has to even be said. If you are investing in secret lairs to try to get a good deal on the base cards, that's a goofy perspective.
It's probbaly Because people arnt looking at these cards as investments but rather actual cards in different treatments. So if the price of a secret lair is equal to the cost of a card and you've wanted then you could buy the lair for good value and get some bonuses. Anything else is just buying cards because you like the art which is the other reason your average person buys a secret lair. Base line during the sale people are looking at these as either value buys or things you get because you like them.nobody normal is looking at these as an investment. If your an investor looking at magic to make money buy every secret lair even if they have dogwater reprints they're always have some value.
I could buy 1x Sphere of Resistance for $37.99 or I could buy 1x Sphere + 3 other great Stax cards for $29.99. Seems like value to me. I'm not investing in Secret Lairs, I'm using them as an opportunity to get cards I wouldn't otherwise get because they're so expensive. I hate that this has to even be said.
@@attackoncardboard You present a very narrow interpretation of what a secret lair is and the reasons people have for buying them. It’s a shallow take. Just useless price comparisons that don’t even make sense. You can’t know the market value of the secret lair products by simply adding up the value of prior printings.
I don't really have many options when reviewing Secret Lairs. The options I have are: Art/Design, Value and Power Level of cards. Art and Design is subjective, so that one is off the cards. Power level is pretty easy to assess as that comes from experience and the card data we have. And then there's Value. Now bear in mind, of these 3 things, Art is generally at the bottom of the list for me. And Value to me is simply, "If I was going to buy these cards right now, should I just buy the Secret Lair instead?" in addition to, "How scarce are these cards?" After all, this isn't an investment, I'm looking to add these cards to decks and play them. So judging them against their current market value is completely reasonable. Both the land and the SPECIAL bundle were extremely low in power level and reprint value VS the Vault Boy bundle which ticked all my boxes.
@@kylejames8471 I actually agree on part of it. These should be considered as stand alone cards, and i guess the value on the others is just to say how much other ones are if you wanna get one that isnt fallout related. But i get your arguement. Still i found it very interesting all the same.
Huge fallout fan. The fallout set is what got me into magic recently. I Just preordered the bundle! Very excited. Love the art.
Excellent to have you here 😀
I just like the art 😂
When my wife and I were reviewing the cards, we found we would use most of the SPECIAL and POI and not the Stax pack.
SPECIAL and POI cards can definately fit into a lot of different decks, but they don't really fit into any of the Fallout decks (bar the Equipment tutor and Anger for Dogmeat) nor are the cards really worth playing in the first place.

Command Beacon is pretty resilient in Gitrog Monster decks!

Great video, i will be opening them soon on my channel. Just love the fallout artwork. Hope to open the mana vault!

Okay, I'm grabbing the whole bundle if if there is one and I'm going to mesh up all 4 of the original decks into one
Bundles go live in about 3 hours 😀 That is certainly a thing you can do
ill be getting all 3
2 of them is cause i love fallout
its the 2 you say
So I have to open all of my boxes to see if I get a Mana Vault? Frick that. I will just use the beat up revised one I had since forever.

Hi, if I buy the whole bundle, the one includes all 3 sets. Will there be any bonus cards? Or do i have to buy them separately to get bonus cards?
If you buy the bundle that contains the 3 Fallout bundles. You'll get the 3 corresponding bonus cards. 2x Wastes and 1x Codec Shredder and if you're lucky, one might be a Mana Vault
Same question, do u get the bonus cards with the whole bundle
Yup, bonus cards are built into each "bundle", so you'll get 3 individual bundle boxes each with their own bonus card :)
Huge fallout fan here but I gotta say they missed the board on this one pretty badly. I’ll be focusing my money towards outlaws 🤠
I was hoping for a TV show tie in at least, like they've done with Dr Who and the D&D Movie previously
What if you buy the bundle of all three do you still get the 2 bonus cards and a chance at the mana vault
Each of the "Lairs" come in their own little box. Inside that box will be the cards including the bonus card.
If you order the complete bundle you'll get 3 boxes that each come with their bonus card :) and each with their own chance to get a Mana Vault
@@attackoncardboard thank you so much for the quick response I really appreciate it and so happy that I'm still getting the bonus cards
Happy to help. I read all the comments 😁
If anything ive learned if they put a $ card in a secret lair it prolly is going to a set in the next 1-2 years.
Exactly this!
I like fall out cartoons so I got this just for art. Non foil of course bc foil makes it hard to see art. Fabled passage is the best card for land fall decks with multiple copies... I didn't even know it was in there nice

"thanks to the fallout set" Homie... Secret Lair was a thing for MONTHS before that... with WAY better offers...
Are you Daft?
"*For those of you new to Magic,* thanks to the Fallout set," is the full quote. I believe you are the daft one 😂
Useless review
How so? What didn't you like?
I'm all for constructive criticism, as that's the only way I'll improve, but this is "useless" feedback.
