I used to watch this show on PBS at midnight every weeknight. John Inman’s Mr Humphries was my favourite character in the show. To this day I still love watching this show, I even subscribed to Brit Box streaming, so that I could watch this show as much as I want.
So glad someone loaded this show up on RUclips. I loved this show when I was a kid! It was reruns on PBS in the 80s and 90s. Along with a lot of other Britcoms was something I looked forward to everynight.
My mother and brother also loved this show, mom died at 84 three years ago, watching these are like memory lane and I know Mom would approve I'm spending my time well , may she rest in peace.
@@patriciajrs46 sorry for your loss also , now the BBC shows are a strong hold to my sanity and physical healing as they say laughter is the best medicine.
As a child I remember John Inman on a TV chat show talking about this episode. He said that the scene in the canteen where they were making jokes about Captain Peacock’s boil was the funniest in his career. All their laughing was genuine. Everyone got the giggles. The scene took ages and all the camera men and sound people were also in hysterics. They had to stop filming twice, which was unusual back then. Wendy Richard in particular was beside herself. If you look at the scene, you can see they mean the laughing. 8:28

Same!! My late brother and I started watching it when I was about 10, he was 6. I am almost 40 now. We waited up until 10pm on Sunday nights to watch it on PBS. My baby brother died tragically 2 years ago. So I watch it for us both now ❤ such amazing memories. Something so warm and comforting about this show. When we were afraid of the dark, it was like a warm hug ❤

I haven't seen "Are You Being Served" in twenty-five years. I always have remembered it as being very funny, but I had forgotten that it was THAT funny 🤣
PBS has gotten very arrogant like the other networks over the past couple of decades and only show programs THEY THINK the people will like. Plus, they've gotten too political since the Reagan Administration.
One reason this series is so funny is because those of us alive to live in London back in the early 70's can tell you department stores were really like this.
Macy's in New York City in the 1970s was a true Palace among Department Stores. Pneumatic tubes to take Money 💰 to 🎶 counting rooms and receipts back, the counters and displays were real Classics, even the Elevators were all Brass and had Uniformed Elevator Operators with the vintage lever operating wheel. Real Class.
Discovered this show late nights when I was a kid. We didn't have cable in our bedrooms back then. We were lucky to have a little Black and white T.V.. But I watched this and then a few years later wxxi/PBS began showing Absolutely Fabulous! Two great British shows. None of my friends knew about either.
I found a 19 inch Television in the rubbish room, it was missing the high voltage rectifier tube, I bought a used tube at the local repair shop, I later worked at that shop. My favorite and best job, I was 13 years old.
Sorry I'm really late to the discussion...lol. But i remember the same thing with no cable in the bdrm and a small black and white tv while trying to find something to watch. I remember these on PBS.
