"Honey what are you watching?" - Reply: "Engine and transmission mating." Puzzled look...."???? Car porn?" ... Reply, pondering...."Yeah, I guess you can say that. There's a lot of greasy grunting and rolling around...yeah... car porn."
Noice😂👌
those who make no mistakes , usually make nothing at all...
A year late but I needed this right now Thankyou
2:15 the camera man laughing lol
My brother had a 94 Lightning; Vortech, 4.56 gears, shift kit & 3,000 stall converter... it sucked to drive unless you were trying to go fast, but man did it boogey down the quarter
Only meant to dip-in until later and before you know it, I’ve watched it all the way through! Thanks for all the great videos Eric, for years you’ve been helping me keep my 94 JDM Prelude in good shape. It’s my future classic 2.2 vtec daily driver :)
How does the torque converter connect to the engine?
I didnt see you bolt it to the flexplate.
Just bolted the transmission to the engine.
Was their a part you left out?
I can see that their are bolt holes on the flex plate and torque converter.
I take it you just bolt it from here
As I mentioned at the end, there will be a lot of stuff that isn't covered in videos. That's one of them. I simply didn't have time to cover everything unfortunately. Thanks for your comment.
And here’s the smartass comment
IIGrayfoxII just 3 bolts
HOW FRUSTRATING!!!! I'm glad not to have seen you when you had to take that all out !! YOUR a "PRO." I probably would have killed the cat or something !
I run the car maintenance RUclips channel in Korea. I'm always learning such a great ideas on your channel. I hope we have a chance to be together. Thank you.
자동차의 모든 것[ Car & Man ] hey man, what’s up with Hyundais and AC systems? I see a lot of Hyundais whose air conditioner breaks prematurely. Either the compressor or the evaporator break
If you don't have a lift, it is very important that you not try to stand up under your car. This is a really cool series, Eric! Keep up the great work
How TF are you gonna stand under a car WITHOUT using a lift?
@@justinhouse674 It isn't easy
never saw him fasten the torque converter bolts
As I said at the end of the video, not all of the installation was covered in the videos due to time constraints. The torque converter bolts and the cover were part of what wasn't covered. Thank you for your comment.
The quite giggle in the background at 2:17
Completely jumped to catch the eng/trans when it stated to roll off the pallet. 🤦🏼♂️
just had a mini heart attack when your engine tipped on the pallet , 6:30am watching this 🤘🏼
Staind413 Me too
@Vladimir Putin 😂😂😂 I struggle watching his videos
i Assumed that was loctite. we are all human, proceed with the building of this glorious car. you da man eric.
One of the reasons I watch ETCG - he's human and admits it! Mistakes happen, but unlike so many "experts" Eric doesn't hide his with editing!
I really like the chrome and black engine. It looks really good!
Eric, Thanks for showing the good and the errors of the install. Keep the Videos coming!
When this thing is done, the only other car you'll want to drive is the Fierce Fairmont!
(383s Rock!)
499th viewer here, did I win a million dollars?
No but you win my reply :D
yeah but it's all monopoly money.
Impressive work. Impressive tools.
How is that Monster Transmission? I was looking at one but the reviews they have are pretty bad it scared me.
Meh, still sorting it out. I don't hate it, but I don't love it either.
It's coming along nicely Eric..
Hey viewers..this vid needs some major likes!! 10k views and only 1k likes....BOOST IT UP!! #ETCG1 #SALUTE
" EYE PROTECTION "
The 80's called, they want their valve covers back
That's kind of what I was going for. ruclips.net/video/kCepnacqRuI/видео.html
I also learned the hard way many years ago, when its THAT much trouble to have to go back and redo something, never take shortcuts follow instructions to the letter, its a lot less hassle now than with everything together and in the vehicle. Its easy to get impatient to see it all come together and run but its a dead dog bummer to have to install and remove an engine twice for such an easy task -- ask me how I know---lol
Whosoever installs this transmission, if he be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor!
5:30am vid and coffee, perfect early morning
1:24 You realised what you just said. Lol.
Videos don't get much better than this ladies and gentlemen. On point, Makes me wanna take my 93' 2 dr GMT400 K1500 Chevy blazer 4x4 to the next level, I've got about $3,000 in the motor now with stock bottom end, and a brand new Monster Transmission I just put in after the rebuild bout 6 months ago, but anyway I've got another 355 crate engine in another 93' 2dr. Yukon under 1,000 miles on it that I may have to STROKE out now !!!!!! Thanks #ETCGDADSTRUCK383 Great info and perWhat did the machine shop charge for everything ? Thanks !! These GMT400 platform is the next big hit to come #GTM400LIFE Let's make em look and drive the way the factory should have !!!!!!
Great video again.
Shame about the knock. Imagine going through that entire rebuild and then still having a knock.
Great video Eric! Can't wait to see the truck finally driving!!! Keep it up!
Me too man! I want to see how this truck will drive. It's going to be a total monster. :)
The fact that you've gotten so much content out of this is amazing, very well documented. I also noticed you didn't put the torque converter/flexplate bolts in but you didn't put the cover on either.
At the end of the video I state that a lot of the installation was not covered in video due to time constraints. Both of those items were part of what I was referring to. Thank you for your comment.
@@ericthecarguy I figured it would be converted in a future video, I didn't realize those were intended to be in the video.
Love how the transmission bell housing is half open the cut out is nice so you can see the thor torque converter at all times looks nice
That is coming together real nice.
Eric please help! I have a 2006 Mazda 6 V6. The dipstick say AW01 ATF T - N. What kind of transmission fluid i am suppose to use. I cant find one that say T - N. Is it say T or N. I checked Aisin website and all over and im confused.Atf is leaking so i need to top up before it goes. I put my vehicle in rickauto and car id but they just list all kinds of fluid from mercon to dexron to t-iv. Please help
I I’m have a question . I’m mating my m/t my Jeep. The last inch is being real stubborn. Both t/m do not have the mounts on so the tranny has two jacks and the motor is still on the stand. Can I use the guid pin bolts to pull them together? Like I said it’s only like and inch ( like like 1/2 an inch) that’s gaping them apart.
Good video Eric. I was hoping this one would be like my S10 shere the core support won't come out because of rusted bolts and you have to finagle the crap out of it, keep moving stuff out of the way, etc.
Great video
Great video series with good information. Good that you leave mistakes and mention them. Same type of errors happen to any intermediate wrench head.
First of u r by far the most entertaining and educational mechanic on youtube and i always catch myself watching ur vids when im bored lol I just put my transmission into my car and was mating it to the engine, I got the three bolts that go from the flex plate to the tourqe converter and the bell housing bolts to the engine snug and now the crank wont turn so I can fully tighten the tourque converter bolts, something seems wrong since it should turn and im stuck, any advice by chance?
good video, I learned a lot. On the flywheel bolts, you use Loctite on the threads but the Assembly Lubricant under the head of the bolt, which is what I thought you were doing.
at first I thought what you were putting on the bolts was loctite. I guess that was anti-sieze? I watched a video last night where the guy put everything on pilot bearing, new rear main seal, clutch, pressure plate , and flywheel and he used thread locker. I was definitely going to reference to a video when I put on the same things he did in a few weeks and just take my time and hopefully have no issues.
I putting a 350 with a t5 on my firebird and I used blue loctite, I've only done a few motors but I could never bring myself to use red.
Grate video! About to do the same think tomorrow this video has givin me so much knowledge and insight thanks! 🙌 subscribed
Before you bolted the torque converter with the flex plate, were u able to sprin the torque converter? I feel my trans and engine aren’t sitting aligned and spin the torque
What about Druck for the name? It’s like Brangelina and other blended celebrity names
you are using 2 different cordless impact wrench? if so which ones do you like best?
Awesome job Eric,Pops is gonna want his truck back when your done
How do you know when the clutch has been placed correctly? Is there a click of sorts?
It hurts to watch this knowing that you had to take it out again. 😣
DT is also Delirium Tremens, or alcohol withdrawal. 🙂
Bro, please put safety chain on your engine attached to hoist, one failure and crash is not great
interesting fact: the K on the trans bellhousing means it was originally a 4x4 transmission
Interesting. Good to know.
Panicked when I saw the engine + trans start to roll D:
That's a very sexy piece of equipment!
That’s one weird looking “4L60e”...
Perfect name for the engine. Good video. What I like about your work, is that when you make an error, you admit it and explain it. To me that is helpful. No one (mechanic) is perfect.
If you haven't made a mistake, you haven't been a mechanic for very long.
Looking good Eric. All nice an shiny.
Will there be an issue with the exposed torque converter and flex plate?
The installation wasn't completed in this video. I did install a cover over the torque converter and Flexplate. Thanks for your comment.
Why don't use the adjustable engine holder.more easy to fit ?
Hi, So Thor is engaged to a Monster!
So that transmission, is it a 700r4 case with 4l60e parts in it? Cause i thought only the 700r4 had a one piece design with removable tail end.
JakexRain early 4l60e cases had a one piece design, later model ones had the removable bell housing
Thx i want a Diesel in my 08 suburban
My last week of highschool I took my trans out of my truck on Jack stands it was a pain in the ass I got it rebuilt and reinstalled on graduation day and the next day took a 300 mile road trip
Thank you Eric you are an inspiration
What about thore an th gear shaft don't they have to be bolted ?
👍👍👍
What's an acceptable gap between flex plate and converter mounting point. Trying to figure if I will need spacers or let the converter pull forward. I know it should not pull forward too much though.
Chevy 350 to 200r4 trans combo
The pull forward is about a quarter inch or so. Make sure your flywheel isn't on backwards. No shims should be needed. If you need shims then it's likely wrong as the tip of the converter is not going to pilot properly into the crank
I wonder if he put the bolts in converter to flywheel
Maybe was in the video but why did you go with a carburetor? I get it's not a "performance" truck but if you're spending the money on rebuilding everything I would have spent another $600 on an EFI carb and get it running perfect no matter where you go.
ruclips.net/video/sygI3OA4rfA/видео.html
Now I'm freaked out. Instructions in my arp kit said their fastener lube and 80 lb ft. No mention of loctite. Same application. 1 pc rear main?
Instructions for the fasteners I used are linked in the description. You might want to see if the part numbers are the same.
Just put bigger casters on the engine stand??
Amazing what you can do with right tools
When all else fails, read the instructions.
I to start with the middle hole and end in the rear hole.
I still cant believe people are dumb enough to use those 4 tiny studs on the intake to lift an engine and trans.
Sometimes it's the only way you can get it in
Alot of work but great job. 🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽🗽
Trans dip stick tube?🤔🤣
Nothing like installing fresh, clean new parts into a clean engine bay, SO much more enjoyable than not - even if ya just do a quick degrease and washdown and black spray paint, huge difference.
THOR : The Golden One.. (-:
Looks like a 4l80e. .....pops gonna have a sharp lil racey truck!!!
ruclips.net/video/rnKof4v0Zts/видео.html
We all make mistakes Eric. Whether you've done a specific job a 1,000 times or one time mistakes do happen. The important thing is you learned from that mistake and corrected it.
"Bam chicka Bam! That engine be in there.." Lol
Was cooking lunch and heard this while watching intermittently.. had me laughing.. Great video man.
About the integra....
Polyurethane bushings👍🏻
Now, Eric. I've used the Eibach Proline springs. They are SO nice. Because of the progressive winding. It's not at all to harsh for daily drivability at all! Infact it's quite nice. The spring rates for me are in fact awesome.
The only downside for some people is the fact that it lowers the vehicle by an inch maybe one and a half. But it's not to bad at all. Nor does it really require a stiffer shock absorber.
I had some on my 99 Plymouth breeze for years. Never had any issues. The springs just made the car feel more like a higher end vehicle than it was. (I used to joke about it really feeling as luxurious of a ride as a benz)
What I mean by that was is that it was very soft and luxurious felling until I would corner fast. Then you could tell something wasn't stock. However if I didn't corner fast, nobody would have ever noticed anything wasn't stock. It felt so damn good.
I'm looking towards doing it to our family car (dodge dart) someday. Just in case I need to pull an emergency evasive maneuver.
It's never a bad thing (in my opinion) to have brakes that can rip your eyes out of the sockets. Along with sporty handling for those oh shit moments on the road. As well as enough go go to get you out of troubles way if need be.
Now, being able to return to fully stock without and signs that anything was ever different. As well as only improving the vehicle without taking away from the comfort, gas mileage, or drivability is my personal goal when "modifying" a vehicle.
(And personally I hate using the term modifications when I'm just switching out parts like springs, bushings, pulleys and brakes.)
Hey eric, so is it possible that i can install a new 4l60e or 4l80e onto my truck even if i still have my stock 1998 5.7 350 l31 engine ?
Thor is a THICCC boi
What about the inspection cover
What I like on you Eric, is the way you sometimes act as a rookie garage enthusiast instead of white-collar dealership mechanic strictly following the rules. However, torquing the flexplate bolts using guestimated torque with a cordless impact was too much even for me 😁 Great video anyway, thanks!
are you getting complacent?
Man, i miss your videos so baaad
I will be replacing the 305 Motor with a 350 in my 3rd gen Camaro. This video gives me hope it will be a relatively easy process.. thanks Eric!!
Hey would a 1989 5.0 Lincoln town car have a roller cam and steel distributor gear or flat and cast iron???
It is so much nicer putting an engine in without the front end on, it's a little more work, but it saves so much time having an assembled unit of engine and transmission. Thanks for the real life videos!!
Eric you rock. Just gave you a shout out for your demonstration of the Valve Keeper Remover and Installer Kit. Will be using threadlock on my flex plate as well. Nice work on your channel and thank you.
safety glasses eric. safety glasses!
Do you know if its true that oil change can be done once a yr oris it every 1500 miles
I have 18 sonata
Was wondering what you were doing with the lube, only ever heard/seen/used Threadlocker on the FLywheels bolts.
Favorite series #DT383
Hey..Eric you need to bring an assistant to help you .. this point of view from safety prospect
