In this episode I wrap things up in the engine compartment of #ETCGDadsTruck. This includes the installation of the new transmission cooler lines, the fuel lines, as well as some other miscellaneous stuff.
I might make a video just on making custom braided lines if there’s interest.

My grandfather gave me the same exact truck about a year ago. I'm only 15 and I have spent every dollar I've earned in the last year on it. I aspire to make my truck as beautiful and functional as yours. Thank you for doing everything to the fullest. Amazing work.
The transmission lines seem to be a nightmare. But you made it look a little easier. That truck will be EPIC!!!
They didn't fit because they're supposed to be routed under the motor mount, not over it.
Anthony Garner Incorrect. They are routed correctly. The issue is that they bend the lines for shipping. Also, I'm altering the connections that would have gone to the smaller radiator. Thank you for your comment.
I AM BLOWN AWAY AS WHAT YOU " ERIC " WAS CAPABLE OF TURNING THIS TRUCK INTO UNDER A DEMANDING TIME LIMIT. JUST MAKES ME SICK WHEN I BITCH ABOUT HAVING TO CHANGE AN AXLE SHAFT OR A FRONT WHEEL BEARING & LOOK WHAT YOU HAVE DONE, HOLY CROW !!! I'M A VERY EMOTIONAL GUY ? ALWAYS WAS & I KNOW I WILL CRY WHEN YOUR DAD SEE'S THIS, JUST A WONDERFUL THING YOU DID SIR, I BOW TO YOU. A HELL OF A LOT OF FIGURING OUT, DETERMINATION & VERY VERY HARD WORK. THE CAMERA FOOTAGE WAS TOP NOTCH ALSO GREAT WORK BRIAN, GREAT WORK.
Thank you very much!
YES SIR & I THANK YOU, AMAZING WORK.
I'm baffled at how they took 3" off the driveshaft as opposed to 1.5". I'm actually upset for you. Just wow! 😕
Either way, this looks great so far. I'm glad that you are making these videos and things are coming to life for you.
we went to a shop, measured it exactly how they told us, with all the weight on the ground yoke all the way in. it was an inch too long. they wanted 96 bucks to fix it. yea, no
Love that neat little grounding strap. You're right; it is the little things.
That alternator is gorgeous all the engine accessories are beautiful on the front
I just recently replaced the rear hard brake line on my 95 Suburban, so a GMT400, same as your truck, and you are exactly right, it was a fight the entire time.
The start up is just ok, the building is where it’s at. Keep up the good work.
Thanks!
AS always you did some nice line bending there Eric and some good work on the truck and its looking good sorry to c they messed up on the drive shaft but that's minor detail but that's an easy fix .....Thanks
Getting closer. Can't wait for your comments on the truck after you got it going.
Freaking Awesome - I can't wait for follow up after you drive it!
Excellent series Eric!!!!
Thanks!
Perfect timing! I logged in and this was just uploaded!
Awesome build! That March pulley system is something else. I work at the shop who builds those accessories for March. I do believe you have my waterpump on your engine :) (Tuff Stuff). Any who, the power steering lines, to clean them up yourself like you said you would like to in the video. The pressure line on the pump and on the gearbox, you can convert them over to the old type flared fitting setup by just adding a brass insert into the female fitting on the pump and the female fitting hole on the gearbox. Then with a chamfering bit for a drill (90 degree) can chamfer the original fittings on the line to correspond with the flares on the tubing that you can put on yourself. The brass inserts are not in the catalog. They usually only come in the pumps unless the situation calls for getting this part to the customer. You can call sales rep Matt, tell him prancstaman (Rodney) told you about this part that is not in the catalog. He will most likely put you on hold to go talk to me about it. Then I can get you what you need. Just tap them in and make the OEM pressure line the way you want, flare the ends, then you are good.
Thank you!!
@@ericthecarguy your welcome.
These trucks are the greatest I can’t wait to get the transmission for mine
I had the same fun swapping a turbo 350 out to a 4l60e in my 73 k10. Overdrive is mandatory with today's gas prices. Complete custom exhaust. Nice work man. The hydroboost upgrade was lots of fun. Hah hah.
Beautiful Bro!!!! Ah man!!! My 98 C1500 needs that!!!! Lol. Great job Eric!!!! Great JOB!!!!
I'm excited to hear the first start up, at the same time I'm not because that means this series is that much closer to wrapping up. I dont want it to end, have very much enjoyed this truck build!!
Loving this series! Looking forward to the next. Thanks Eric
You are one patient mechanic...Good work
Drive it dude I can't wait to hear your review on the performance of that monster transmission
Looks like your Dad's truck is going to have one proud owner , so I will go and get my second cup of coffee as I drank the first watching ya do them transmissions lines ........ Can't wait for the start up !!!!
Eric is a fine wine indeed. Thanks brotha!
Eric, the custom car builder!!
I really love doing this kind of work. Thanks for the comment.
Dads Truck is coming together very nicely Eric. Can't wait to see it in action.
every human is kind of an idiot, it just takes years , lessons and an honest world view to admit it.
I don't want it to be over. But it'll be great when it's on the road!
All most there BRO,heck of a job dude.Hope all goes well, can't wait to hear the old girl come to life.
JUST got my AM coffee keg... beautiful 'timing'....
Eric, the opening that you are running the trans lines through, take a piece of hose, cut down one side and then seat it on the edge. Makes a nice cushion for your lines and they won't rub metal to metal.
Can’t wait for start up!
Next week.
That engine just looks so badass!!!! Great vid again, keep em coming! Greetz from the Netherlands 😎👍
A video on custom braided lines would be AWESOME! I vote "Yes!"

Now, Eric. I've used the Eibach Proline springs. They are SO nice. Because of the progressive winding. It's not at all to harsh for daily drivability at all! Infact it's quite nice. The spring rates for me are in fact awesome.
The only downside for some people is the fact that it lowers the vehicle by an inch maybe one and a half. But it's not to bad at all. Nor does it really require a stiffer shock absorber.
I had some on my 99 Plymouth breeze for years. Never had any issues. The springs just made the car feel more like a higher end vehicle than it was. (I used to joke about it really feeling as luxurious of a ride as a benz)
What I mean by that was is that it was very soft and luxurious felling until I would corner fast. Then you could tell something wasn't stock. However if I didn't corner fast, nobody would have ever noticed anything wasn't stock. It felt so damn good.
I'm looking towards doing it to our family car (dodge dart) someday. Just in case I need to pull an emergency evasive maneuver.
It's never a bad thing (in my opinion) to have brakes that can rip your eyes out of the sockets. Along with sporty handling for those oh shit moments on the road. As well as enough go go to get you out of troubles way if need be.
Now, being able to return to fully stock without and signs that anything was ever different. As well as only improving the vehicle without taking away from the comfort, gas mileage, or drivability is my personal goal when "modifying" a vehicle.
(And personally I hate using the term modifications when I'm just switching out parts like springs, bushings, pulleys and brakes.)
Good Job Eric
Can't wait to see that pro-flo 4 system at work!
Thank you.
MrLoadingarea welcome to my channel
Everything looks good except you forgot to tighten the loose nut behind the wheel 😂😂😂
I think it's stripped.
AN adapter fitting in the p/s pump and the gear to a -6 size.... then get a standard hydraulic hose made with length and angled fittings of your choice. Easy peezy
Looking clean brotha 👍👍
Great video Eric looks great
Good work man
Thanks.
Nice work! I wouldn’t mind seeing a how-to on the braided lines.
I thought that would be a good video also. Thanks for the suggestion.
When he said “idk it’s the little things” I couldn’t help but lose it
right on time
Is that ATF leaking from ETCG Dads Truck in the closing statements? Lol also, loving the build. I've been following it from the start. You do great work and pay extreme attention to detail. Loving it!
Yes, a little. Glad you're enjoying the videos. Thanks for the comment.
"It's the little things" I know hey? so true
I'm not sure that hose clamp is going to hold. But the engine looks awesome. Thanks Eric.
Not sure which one you're referring to, but so far, so good. Thanks for the comment.
@@ericthecarguy Its at 10:27 in the vid. how much pressure is on that line? I've had them blow right off lines, that's why I am wondering. Anyway the project looks so awesome. Thanks for the series, I am really enjoying it.
No pressure at all. That's the PS return line, not the high psi line. The high psi line threads in on both connections. Thanks for your comments.
@@ericthecarguy Alright, got it. Thanks for explaining. Always enjoy your vids and hope to see you at a meet up in NY one of these days.
Eric, back to the hyper-technic pistons ... Ever wonder why hyper-technic pistons have that black coating on the skirt of the piston ? That black coating is a Band-Aid without that Band-Aid the hyper technic piston aluminum is too hard on the piston wall.... ( I learned this the hard way years ago used same type of piston in a small block 350 Chevy with the correct clearance the hard aluminum rubbed through the crosshatch on the cylinder wall that’s why they started using the black coating on the sides of the piston , oh and these pistons are also pretty noisy at cold start )
How about a warning next time before you start welding? I didnt even have enough time to get my helmet on!
Good one!
Thats why they call it custom!
What chrome alternator did you use and are you happy with it? Videos are great! Love what you have done so far!
Bad battery cable ends at the battery. They are a stereo installer's dream, but do yourself a favor and solder lugs on the ends like at the block in the future and you'll never have a problem.
Looking good Eric. I'm sure you dad can't wait to take it out for a drive. One question will you be paying the tickets? Hahaha
awesome!
That engine though!!!! 😍😍😍😍
is there a vid in this build series of you installing the efi as far as the ecu mounting and doing the wiring?
Eric parabéns pelo seu trabalho.BRASIL-São Paulo
Plastic Torque Converter Cover mixed with Y pipe = gooey plastic covered Y pipe. Just my thoughts Eric. Zip~
I bought a similar kit for my 350, having trouble finding tv and throttle cable brackets. Really would like to see what you use in the next episode
All Eric's concentration and frustration comes out of his nose as he breathes lol
I'm just wondering why didn't you do a full twin exhaust instead of the Y-pipe Eric ?
The fuel tank is in the way. Also, it's really not necessary with 3" pipe.
EricTheCarGuy oh ok 👍🏼, that makes sense , didn't realize you are using a 3''" pipe .
Next video start up thank god!
This isn't TV. 😉
@@ericthecarguy you're right but there's plenty of us thatd watch your TV show if you had one👍
I'll bet i know who is coming to dinner, but i'll stay silent. Oh yeah want to hear that puppy fire.
Next week!
The beard of wisdom
I could feel is frustration when he was wrestling with those transmission lines. He was trying to play it cool for the camera. I noticed there was a little cut in the video where he probably stopped to scream “MOTHER F*CKER!!!!!!”
It's so SHINY!
i know you prolly already fixed it. but with the power steering hoses didnt they make a kit where you can do the same thing as you did with the trans lines. and im sure the answer is in the up coming videos ill watch
Awesome!!!
Ummm, if they screwed that up, they owe you a driveshaft. PERIOD. That's all on them. Are you sure you aren't using shops up here in the northern suburbs of Detroit? Kind of expected around here...but around here you'll pay dealer rates for the work (or more), for crappy work, and at 3 times the "time" it should take.
He's in Ohio, not Detroit
@@gianfrancoa Well aware of where he is at...Cinci area...but thanks...I was making the correlation between his bad luck on the drive shaft and the fact that all the shops in my area blow. EVERY shop in my area has a 1-star rating, and reading reviews, they all say the same thing "I took it in for this, and two weeks later it is back for the same thing, and they refuse to cover it"...We have shops in my area that will put your car on the rack and tell you you need "new brakes, new calipers, the ball joints and tie rods are shot"...I've had it happen to me when getting tires on a vehicle...yet the brakes were only 1500 miles old and in perfect shape. This is COMMON place in my area, so it was a correlation...mechanics in my area cannot be trusted, and that just sucks.
Thank you Eric always enjoy your videos I am from South Africa number 700
You cant use a tube/pipe cutter and then flare the end of your power steering line? making necessary bends?
Just use AN fittings & make your own lines, they look way better!
Sometimes a hard line is just better and cleaner.
I'm happy with my choice of new hard lines. I feel they will last longer and won't chafe anything they come in contact with like steel braided line does. Also, the steel lines are more compact giving me more room to work. Thanks for your comment.
EricTheCarGuy I was thinking for the P.S. lines it may be less of a headache, the trans lines came out great! I’m sure once you get new lines made it will look way cleaner! Can’t wait to see the reward of 1st startup
Curios as to why you would run headers into a restrictive y pipe/single exhaust setup?
Me too, Sad when I saw that but THE DAMN TRUCK LOOKS TERRIFFIC, WOW.
Because the fuel tank is in the way. That pipe is 3" and doesn't seem to hamper performance at all. Thanks for your comment.
AWW HELL FORGOT ABOUT WHERE THE FUEL TANK IS LOCATED, I SHOULD HAVE NOT COMMENTED ERIC KNOWS, ERIC KNOWS, ERIC KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING.
You can run duals, but you still have to bend them around the tank. I went for off the shelf parts to save time. I'm happy with how it turned out. Thanks for the comments.
nice job Eric, I have an 88 square body that I'm working on right now . Not to the depth of restoration that your doing. But one question that I have would be.... after you put in the new transmission, did you have to change any sending units to send info to the instrument cluster? i want to change my cluster out as it only has the "idiot light" bulbs instead of actual guage readings & I don't know if I'll have to change the various sending units to make it work?
Depends on your set up. See the previous episodes I did on wiring up the gauge cluster.
@@ericthecarguy Thanks Eric I'll check them out
Hello Eric the Car Guy DJ LOUIS here just wondering which impact gun you recommend to get. that remove a drive axle not.
You're really triggering my OCD by not trimming all those pig-tails on the zip-ties.
I'm pretty sure those are semi temporary until he wraps it all up.
That's only the working harness. It'll be all clean and wrapped up before it's all over.
lol...that random truck horn threw me off.
The joys of being next to a trucking company and shooting RUclips videos.
That is a beautiful looking engine but I don't get the 50s style valve covers on a modern vehicle they still looking amazing but they are just uniform for that era of vehicle but
Perhaps you missed my intent with the truck: ruclips.net/video/kCepnacqRuI/видео.html
Hi, my Mini Cooper engine overheated and can't turn on anymore. My mechanic said to replace the engine, but is there any other options?
Eric, i looked in the description but i didn't see it. What brand/model of flexible AN hose did you use? Do you like it?
Not enough room unfortunately. Earls is a good choice in my opinion.
It would be cool to see you do a jeep cherokee with the 4.0 build. Assuming you can find one in good condition
I guess you're not familiar with my deep hatred for those vehicles. ;) ruclips.net/video/VAqBh_sRPZ8/видео.html
Random Question: Do you have the part number for that lower radiator hose? And this build has been a lot of fun to watch. Thank you!
Thanks! Here you go. www.amazon.com/dp/B000C2Y4J4/?coliid=I3VXWSKY8I6LJV&colid=245LHJDQ9HKVE&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
could you tell me where that brown wire from the alternator goes to?
2:55 Noticed you used flat braided for your ground connections. Your thoughts on that versus insulated cable?
Insulated cable would have worked just as well, I just thought the ground strap looked better.
Don’t let dads truck distract you from the fact we haven’t seen the fairmont finished
Sorry about that. I've actually hired a new editor that I hope works out. If he does, the plan is to post #FairmontProject videos on Wednesdays and leave Fridays open to new stuff. Thanks for the comment.
Thank you for the reply. Good things come to those who wait. I have been and will continue to wait patiently. Thank you for the awesome content!
Plz save more 85 to 95 chevy trucks, best built trucks imo
Wow they cut way to much off the drive shaft
Thats not much belt around the crank. Kinda wonder if the belt should go directly from the alternator to the ac then down to the crank and then nearly all the way around the crank to the idler and then to the ps pump?
The system was designed to run that way. So far, no issues. Thanks for your comment.
@@ericthecarguy Cool. Looks good!
My muffler bearing is getting loud I tried spraying wd40 in the tail pipe but it didn't help what oil should i use its a ford
Looks great. How does it pass emissions with all that cool stuff?
I don't have emissions testing where I am. Also, depending on location, most vehicles over 25 years old are exempt.
Where do you get the hard line -6an adapters
How does the drive shaft company mess up shortening the shaft and not fix it or make it right? Seems like if they messed mine up I'd want a new one or for them to fix it. Pretty crazy you'd have to send them a different one to get it right lol
Time was a big factor in this build. In other words, I didn't have time to argue with them.
Erick. Are you ever going to finish the Fairmont? You left us hanging.
The #FairmontProject has been finished for 2 years now, although the videos are lagging behind. I've spent the summer trying to get caught up on the edits, but haven't made much progress. I recently hired a new editor that I hope will work out. If he does, the plan is to start posing 2 videos a week, one #FairmontProject video and also something else for a Friday video. Thanks for the comment.
EricTheCarGuy thanks for the reply man. I really didn’t expect it so I’m very pleasantly surprised. I’m looking forward to those videos. I need inspiration to finish my own Fox body project. Not to mention $$$. Anyway. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Errrrrrrricc!!!
I just sold my '99 Suburban in favor of a 2014 Chevy Silverado, V6. For what I paid for this truck I could've mad my Suburban REALLY nice. But I do really like the truck.; )
J. Hunto's Garage
You’re going to miss the Suburban
You might heat shield the engine bat, the starter, around the exhaust and the gearbox,, ect
and If I were you, I will also powder coat everything I could, such as all the front pulleys..
It will last longer ..
I haven't had any issues with heat damage since I built the truck. Thanks for your input.
Hey Eric, I think I saw some plastic and rubber parts pretty close to exhaust pipes.
Are you planning any heat sheilding?
He did mentioned in the video that he is going to address all the burnable stuff close to the exhaust.
