Saw him many times. Even called his house when Taxi came out. He donated half of what he made. One of my favorite memories was when I took my older sister to see him perform at Hewlett High School. Free admission if you bought non-perishable food. He had no airs about him. He talked to everyone and made all feel like he was a personal friend. I was supposed to see him at Eisenhower Park on the day he died. Harry, I will always love you & miss you. You can still count on the cheap seats

I saw Harry Chapin many many times. Had the opportunity to meet and talk with him on several occasions. It was one of the nicest, kindest, and down-to-earth celebrities I ever met. He is truly missed.

Harry's final concert in Rhode Island was at the Warwick Musical Theatre, around my 6th birthday. I wrote him a letter telling him I had recently been hospitalized for two months, and had listened to his music constantly the whole time, and asked if I could come up and sing "Circle" with him when he came to RI.
While that didn't happen, he wrote me a letter back - my mom still has it somewhere - and he remembered me and my letter when my dad picked me up so he could sign my cast.

I loved this man for all the reasons others have noted. There hasn't been another like him - and isn't that a sad reflection - I'm not talking about talent because he was a giant but about his love for taking care of others.

Harry Chapin always put on great concerts with alot of audience participation! I'm glad I got to see him concert two times: In 1980, after the concert I got to shake his hand, talk to him briefly--and I remember the quick conversation, and take pictures of him, Tom Chapin, his father, etc! The last time I saw him in concert in 1981 was about 2 months before his death-if not less than that! Love you Harry, and band, BobbyK

Harry brought the spirit and truth of true charity to this human stage of existence. He gave more than he got and he got more than he ever expected because He sang from his soul and Harry Chapin echoes on for those oppressed and hungry who he never met. That's an Artist for our times and the story ring on for all of us. We are one song !!! Circles embracing oneness.

I must have seen Harry more than a dozen times. Had front row tickets to see him at The Oakdale less than a week after he passed. Still have them, somehow I just couldn't return them. He probably put on the best shows of any entertainer I've ever seen. You could not see a Harry show and not leave with a smile on your face. Too this day my wife still can't listen to his music, she says it gets her too upset. Miss you Harry! We sure could use you today!!

I was 14 when I saw him in concert and he did sing Circle. I was in the front row center and he played like I was the only one there- heaven! I had an autographed album that was lost to the years, I played it to death. One of the few regrets I have is that I didn't go see him again when I was 16; the next I knew, he was gone, and we were down a troubadour. what a loss!

Beautiful lyrics. I often sing with a hoarse throat just because music makes me happy. This man seems to receive a lot of happiness from songs and poetry. Also has contributed many dollars and time to world hunger. Also curly hair on a man looks very sexy.

I saw Harry 9 times in the MA area. The first was a free concert on Boston City Hall Plaza from WRKO. The last was the best. He was scheduled for two show at the SS Music Circus in Cohasset. I had tix for show 2, which he needed to postpone because of another committment. He rescheduled, and came back for the last show of the year at the Music Circus and sang well past the curfew. He said screw it.....he owed it to us. It was great. I had tix the following year, but he never made it.

This man was transcendent to music. One of the great people of all time.
Musicians today only dream of equaling his capacity to give to others. Like lovepigs, I met, but also knew Harry. He was, when he died, trying to get me signed to his record company Boardwalk Records.
That was Harry.. whenever he had a nano-second (which wasn't often, with all the charity events he did), he was ALWAYS trying to mentor new talent.
His live shows had to be seen in person to get the true vibe of the guy

I was lucky enough to see him on his first time in St. Louis. I am not sure, but I think it was 1972. I fell in love that night and never missed a concert within driving distance until he died. I often wonder what kind of songs he would be writing now. Songs about Grandchildren and mortality. Remember the songs about his kids, "Tangled Up Puppet", "Dancing Boy". His, 'I Want to Learn a Love Song?" A Harry Chapin concert is the closest I have come to feeling spiritual in a secular setting.

This isthe first time I'veheard the entire front part of "... Song." In the Gold Medal Collection you hear the last line: "After all is said and done, you're the one song that I need," going right into "Circle." (Also like your coment "Done withojut Birds." I know what you mean, but it inspires arewrite of "She Sings Songs Withot [Birds] Words.") Yvonne also sings in the "Gold Medal Collecion."

I saw Harry a few times the last being at the "Bottom LIne" in New York. I was fortunate to be dating a woman who worked for Rolling Stone magazine and as such we had front row reserve seats. It was the winter of 1981 and he was on the sequel tour. I got to speak with him after the show and he remembered me from years back as I had handed him a token during the song Taxi at his of Broadway play "The Night That Made America Famous." It was an awesome moment and to this day I can still feel the pain of his loss less than 6 months later. It had all seemed so surreal! His legacy lives on as there has never been a Master Storyteller since. His music is as relevant today as it was then and I guess that timelessness is what makes it so great...Peter

He played Blossom Music Center between Akron and Cleveland, Ohio either right before or right after this TV show. I decided to go at the last minute. It had been a rainy washout of a day all-day, and Harry had played the area earlier in the year so I guess he had over-saturated the market. I was able to get a pavilion seat as a walk-up right before the show which was sparsely attended, only about 4,000 for a venue that can hold nearly 20,000 outside and inside. Four thousand only about half fills the pavilion and there were some people out on the soggy lawn, so it was pretty empty. It was a very anti-climatic sort of experience, and I also believe it was the last time Harry played Northeast Ohio. A year later I went back to Blossom to hear John Denver in concert, about three weeks after Harry died, and he dedicated "I Want to Live" to Harry. They had both been on Jimmy Carter's Presidential Commission on World Hunger. RIP to both Harry and John. To this day I get paranoid about any performer I really like having something like that happen to them.
