All three of our children were born to Harry Chapin's songs. Our first child, Corey, was born to this song. Can't say how much we miss Harry, but I can say that the next generation loves him too.
I miss Harry, his songs, his stories, his wisdom. He helped get me through my teen years. I am now in my late 50's and I would so appreciate his wisdom and words as he aged too. I could really use his advice on growing older through the years. It was a tragedy to lose him. It is a continuous tragedy that we will never have his advice to get us through our older years that he would have been going through too.
I am from multiple worlds, as long as I can feel the music through my soul. I enjoy it. I am a fan of blackoak arkansas. But I listen to any Harry it doesn't matter, his stories are always right there. This is a great song. Just the thought of this man's life ending much too soon. Brings a tear to my eye. All the stories he didn't get to tell
A true balladeer. The only musician who can break me down each time the album drops.. Try the song about a teacher who makes the young students paint nature which can only be the natural color and not whichever color the young artist sees them.
I found out about Harry's death during my 24th birthday party, and was absoultely stunned. This was then and is now my favorite Harry song. Saw him in concert 11 times, met him twice... and he changed my life and outlook. I feel I am a better person for having the chance to encounter such a rare and special individual.
I only met him once, but I was fortunate to see him in concert 3 times. He had such an impact on my life and way of thinking I named my son Corey. He was such a gifted musician and such a generous soul. He played one man shows to raise money for the food banks.
"Gapin' " Chapin is still in my heart. I'm not the young man I was when I first heard his songs on AM radio in the early '70's. But his stories ever move me to this very day. His band totally understood the value of making each character in each song live and breathe. And they definitely had fun bantering with Harry. P.S. IMMENSE thanks for the high quality upload here!!!
For me the best singer of all time. Absolutely love him, you hang on every word, I remember hearing of his death, not long after seeing him in concert. I never tire of listening to him
This is one of my favorite Harry Chapin songs. It seems warm and heartfelt. It tells an interesting story that pulls at the old heartstrings. I have never known my own personal Corey. I wish I had been lucky enough to. I feel that Harry Chapin's music is needed now, more then ever. America is more politically polarized then ever before (save for right before the civil war). I really wish Mr. Chapin was still around. I believe that Mr. Chapin's voice would have been heard. I believe he would have made it heard. We need someone like Harry Chapin now.
I agree 100% - I never had the honor to see him in person, but he moved me with his songs, nevertheless. His "radio" songs were good, but his stories are awesome. I bought this album when it first came out and "Corey's Coming became a favorite immediately. I like the extra verse he put in this live version!
Harry was a humanitarian's humanitarian. I count my self lucky to have been alive during his short life. Yes, its true he was a unique songwriter. A whole class of folk stories owes him much. But even more than this... his generosity made him a great man and one of my idols..
This song ans stranger with the melodies my favourite harry songs wish he was still with us he was one off a kind wish never had the privilege to see him live but got all his cds
During those days there were many exceptional artists. I would say that Harry and Laura Nyro were the most creative, original and emotional. performers who both conformed to nothing. I miss them.... Kenny D
I have always felt she was the ultimate expression of the power of the mind and the imagination. That the reality we create can be more powerful than the reality we live. "Reality is only just a word."
My absolute favorite song 🎵
Every song of Harry's is a special journey. Every time I play them, I'm transported to another place in a reserved space in my heart and mind. ❤
This song always chokes me up. I'm 20 and I can't get over some of the things my generation calls music.
10 years later, I’m 19 and I feel the exact same way.

Had the great privilige of having a front seat at Harry's last concert in Dublin, it was the most extraordinary performance I have ever witnessed

so cool
Harry is a national treasure that will continue to be discovered by generations to come. His genuiness is matched by few artists.
My favorite Harry Chapin song. So haunting.
Great song! We named our dogs after Harry's songs (their registered kennel names), "Corey's Coming", "Mr. Tanner", and more recently, "Star Tripper"

"My name is......Corey"....gets me every time.
Me too! I literally cried when I heard it for the first time now.

Sweet ♥️🦅♥️ I have a Corey in my life that I miss
I named my son Corey (same spelling).
Because of this song.
I have a Corey and I'm waiting!
A fuller lyric than the studio version. Harry's probably the best example of a performer whose live stuff is a whole level above his studio stuff.
For me the best singer of all time. Absolutely love him, you hang on every word, I remember hearing of his death, not long after seeing him in concert. I never tire of listening to him
My wife and I named our daughter Corey because of Harry and this song.
How I miss this man and his great stories.

Named after this song. I was born Corine but they always called me Corey after this song. 😊 this version is fabulous

Named my son Corey after this song 27 years ago
Best Story teller of all time!

One of my favorites!
I was at and my wife called and me, certainly the only time I cried at work! 😂
So glad to have been enfolded into Harry's world.
Great sound quality
Goose bumps everytime ....

Superb song
Excellent, thanks for sharing this!
...I wonder where John Joseph is these days
Amazing :D
Thoughts on the meaning of the song? Is Corey death?
yep
Nope.
John Joseph died.
Corey was his first love.
But was she real ?
I have always felt she was the ultimate expression of the power of the mind and the imagination. That the reality we create can be more powerful than the reality we live. "Reality is only just a word."
@@KevinStJohn-yb2ni Very well said.
Corey came for John Joseph's burial --
One of my favorites!!
