- I've wanted to build in caves in Sons of the Forest since day one! Today I finally figured out how to get logs into caves and make a cave base!

There's actually a really good cave for building a cave base. It's a little ice cave up in the mountains on the opposite side of themountain from the spawn locations. It's a bit unique because it doesn't have the interactable crevasse entrance so you can actually build log structures in there instead of just log furniture, and you don't even need to do the zipline trick since it's just an open entrance. It's very cold and a bit cramped, you could maybe fit a one story 2x2 with a flat roof inside, but it's just a single relatively flat circular room and not too much debris other than one skeleton and some respawning wooden crates at the back which don't really mess with the vibes too much.

@Benjamin Parent It's marked with a cave icon on the gps and it's like halfway up the mountain, but that's all I remember, haven't played in a little while

the Cave NE of the plane crash site (air strip), where the southern flowing river starts. Very nice for a cave base
Infact you could build a pretty secure wooden base right in front of the cave entrance.
I wonder if they're going to rework the caves. They don't seem like the scary threat that seek to have intended them to be.
The shovel cave and rebreather felt ok but the other ones feel like they are rushed, i also hope they re do some of them and spread the gear out a bit more
I’m pretty sure all the caves that are just one room are gonna be expanded cuz the first game didn’t have anything like thsy

@@radiantone5158 and yet you can still get through there on the hardest difficulty without much effort
for the bridge at the very end you can create a special entrance only you can navigate by utilizing the new wall and enforced wooden spike setup. there is a youtube video out there on how to create the entrane so that all mutants and cannibals will run right into the spikes and not be able to go around the wall properly due to their awkward navmeshing
The Sipline is not necessary. You can just go to the entrance with the logs and drop them so that they get stuck in the entrance. Then you go in the Cave and can grab the logs
You can simply throw the logs into the entrance and then enter, you should get the E pick up command if you look back at the opening. It’s pretty easy.
*I’ve always fancied Water Bases, something about breathing underwater*

You can install a build anywhere cheat/mod to allow you to build in caves, been doing it myself. Now i don't know if it allows you to build in every cave though.

U should ne able do use the shovel more freely, like diging moats and bunkers around and in ur base, like dig a big hole, line it with logs and cover it again
Imagine having a giant ballista loaded with crafted spears in Sons of The Forest
That was one of the things I really hoped was expanded in the sequel, more options for an active defense. (Unless I'm forgetting something) the only one in the first game was the catapult that felt really underwhelming, the rest were traps

@@FatherOfConqs you are right. the only active way in The Forest 1 to put cannibals' lives into past tenses is a Catapult, Traps are passive-agressive
the chainsaw is located in the 3d printer cave, marked by the green beacon below the rope gun cave. you have to use a keycard to go through the door at the end of the hallway on the left, and after enough exploring, you should come across a mini-theater room and there'll be a guy with the chainsaw stuck in his head
He was actually already there where he could have picked up the chainsaw when he went into the cave exit.

there is a decent ice cave. comes with a throne
The final story bunker is the good place to build too, or the concrete dock beide that bunker.
What about night vision goggles cave with a skeleton in a chair? That one looked like a good place. It also has some supplies crates whenever you hop into the game. Also has some water, saw some say water in caves now drinkable. Have airfield close. Waterfall with cloth/ropes and down below camp with a radio and some coin. Have plenty of moose to hunt. Only downside, no explosives cases nearby. At least none that I know of.

Oh my gosh, you were literally right by the chainsaw. When you turned around at 11:10 because you said you were cheating the game, there was a doorway in that room to a theatre room and the chainsaw was in there.
I respect that you turned around when you entered that part that you shouldn't. 🎩👍🏻

I feel like the amount of enemies in caves and throughout the island kind of kill the thrill factor. You just get used to them instead of it being a scary encounter.
honestly yeah, there used to be like one, two, maybe three mutants in a cave from what i remember, and now it feels like there's dozens of them in each cave. those finger guys and the twins especially.
i much more prefer that unmarked cave! btw this is a location with chainsaw. literally 2 more turns to get it!

You can build rope bridges! it takes two ropes, and needs a structure on each side, but yea, and those looks pretty good, and cannibals can't use them

Much easier way to get logs in the cave. Build the small shelter (the one with logs sticks and rocks) and you can hold "C" and remove logs from the blueprint. It takes some practice to find the right spot, but it can be done and you can pull 50 logs in about 30 sec

Whoa, that cave home is looking cozy. I don't know about keeping too much in there given a single patch might wipe it out though.
I tried the bridge thing too but turned it into a huge cannibal trap over time and zipline everywhere instead.

Do the mutants respawn in the caves?
A large number of trees on a piece of land make up forests. They are a great source of oxygen as trees exhale a large amount of oxygen during the day and inhale carbon dioxide. This also helps in keeping the air pure and environment clean. Trees in forests help in maintaining ecological balance and biodiversity. Forests play an important role in maintaining cycles of evaporation and condensation that bring down rain. They are rich in medicinal value as well and their trees, roots and wood are used to prepare multiple medicines. Without forests, it is difficult to survive on earth. Activities of deforestation have reduced forests. Global warming is the result of reduced forests. Harmful rays of the sun - UV rays are easily passing through the ozone layer due to forest imbalance that affects the environment. We should plant more and more trees and protect forests. Save trees, save lives! Forests are home to various types of flora and fauna. They are vital for our survival. They maintain temperature and prevent our surroundings from excessive heat. However, these deep, dark woods not only help in sustaining the lives of animals and birds, but they are also equally important for the survival of humankind. They provide raw materials such as timber, fruits, wax, honey, vegetables, wood, leaves for medicines and bark for paper. Besides being a rich source of raw materials for human needs, they are a great source of maintaining wildlife. Trees prevent soil erosion- degradation of soil due to the removal of its upper layer. Not only this, but they also keep streams flowing and air pure that helps in providing us fresh oxygen and a clean environment. Sadly, a large number of human activities such as deforestation, excessive use of trees for industrial purposes has led to its decline. Afforestation and ‘go green’ campaigns, reduction in the use of plastics should be practiced to protect our environment. We as humans should do our bit and grow more trees to save the forests so that we can pass on the beautiful flora and fauna to the coming generations. Forests are blessings for humankind as well as animals and birds. Earth is the only planet to inhabit such a diverse variety of the same all across the globe. They prove beneficial to the human race for umpteen reasons being medicines, food, shelter, industries, furniture, certain utensils, papers, wax and several beauty products. However, excessive dependence on forests and rapid deforestation has left the trees only in scanty. Scorching heat, rising temperatures, drying up of rivers and streams, impure air, increase in carbon dioxide are the causes of deforestation and human recklessness. Recent burning of some of the greatest forests such as Amazon jungles has added to our plight. Australian bushfires are yet another example that killed mammoths of kangaroos and pandas among other animals. If the practice of deforestation persists, soon we will be devoid of plants and eventually life on earth. The day of the perdition of the earth is nearing. We must count on plants, and protect them to sustain life on earth for good. Greta Thunberg, the famous and one of the youngest social activists did raise her concern over environmental degradation yet her voice seemed to fall on deaf ears. Nobody paid heed to the young lady, but the condition or our environment today invites an urgent need to draw our attention towards these plants, animals and forests. Monitoring deforestation by commercial industrialists for raw materials, reforestation, monitoring use of forested areas by farmers for agriculture and promoting the importance of plants, forests and trees in schools, universities and colleges can help save trees and forests. Forests can be saved through afforestation, go green campaigns run at schools and colleges and keeping a check on farming activities in the forested areas.
just get 1 log in the cave then do the glitch to get infinite logs inside.
You place 1 log down horizontally then use a stick to lift it, once its done just bump the structure, it will breaks and 1 log should come off the ground, then repeat the process :)
i don't think he can put log in ground, because manual building mode didn't work.

@broadbent What if u tried firing the grapple from inside and anchor it to the far wall inside the cave, at that point u should be able to put the logs on the line at the entrance which would send them right in
(I don’t own the game so I don’t know if it works any better or worse but I wanted to point it out as something to test)

I really loved cave bases in the original. The chainsaw/missionary cave was tall enough to put down a floor and still have plenty of headroom. The one on the beach by the snow biome was big enough for a two story structure in it. Added bonus of every time you came home, all loot respawns meant always having rope. food, cloth and flares.
A tip I learned from Farket is, if you fall through the map, drown yourself and you'll wake up on a beach back in bounds
How is your game so bright in the cave? Is it literally just editing?

There is a cave up north thats wayyyy better. has no enemies and is a huge flat spot

Me and my friend built a base on the island and a bridge, you can do that by building a tower under water near the island and then from there its pretty easy.
You wanted the chainsaw but you went away from the mall that holds it
Maybe if you could glitch through the map like what happened with the mutant.. you might be able to build where the cave would be. I think it may be possible because of the way you can see the blueprints in the cave.
I actually live in that second maintenance bunker with the fire axe, it's a pretty good base for me

Well you can use the infinite log exploit. Place a log down on the ground, not drop it but place it flat on the ground. Take out a stick and stand at one end of the placed log and when you see the prompt, click and it will place a stick under the end of the log (looking somewhat like a dead fall trap. Simply walk into it and it will fall over and duplicate the log. So all you need is one log basically and just go from there.

There’s a snow cave that’s basically a storage room. Leads to a dead end. That’s where I built.

Kelvin was the first to make a floating base. i built a tree house, kelvin only went and chopped the tree down..... howe ever! Tree house was okay just floating in midair :p

i tried getting infinite logs in caves with the small log cabin, but i can't find anywhere i can actually place the blueprint. probably gonna get patched soon anyways

Ngl, I was really upset to realize you can just run past all the enemies to get the equipment. In my opinion they should create longer interactions to pick up said items such that they player is encouraged to clear the area first or fully commit to stealth to avoid confrontation. A reward without effort is really just a desperate attempt to keep people interested in the game.
Oh no... imo they're gonna need to bring back cave building. I absolutely loved placing walls and posts and all this stuff in the caves, making it this hybrid renovated safety shelter. rip.

This game would be next level if you could dig and mine I don't no why but love games you can dig. Also there a cave in the mountains surrounded buy a ice lake that you don't have to crawl through probably easier to do logs
I had the FPS drop. too - After building a big Spike Palisade. I think the games has problems handling the memory. After a restart, all FPS where up again.
I dont understand how you have so many enemies in caves, i had so few that the game was way too easy even in hardest settings, arrow or few to the head took care most of the enemies for me, wasnt challenge at all the wrold felt so empty, never even got any big attacks to my base.
since you can use prefabs. can you throw a say log cabin prefab down and build it and then take down the logs you dont want to make walls? Then depending how its coded you may be able to build on the floor that is in it
