I am going to admit it I quite enjoyed the 2019 animated Addams Family movie. Besides those, the 2 classic movies with Raul Julia, what a Gomez he was. As for Wednesday the Show, I hope its entertaining at least.
I absolutely hated the love triangle; it was so unnecessary and honestly just made me groan whenever I saw the two bland slices of white bread interacting with Wednesday. I will say, though, by the end, that Tyler's "infatuation" actually made sense because he was trying to manipulate her.
LMAO slices of white bread😭 I felt like that too but now I kind of appreciate it because both of them were unhealthy obsessions. I do wonder though if Tyler ever actually liked her
The show was short I felt it was rushed and impatient but I saw it as Tyler pushed and the other guy got jealous and felt he needed to save her since she saved his life
People seem to forget what kind of messed up stuff the Addams family get up to. Sure it's in the background. But her and Pugsley have both 100% killed people before. That's not role model behaviour and I wouldn't point at a serial killer and say "Act like them, except for the murder part."
I didn't like it - the actress who plays Wednesday is amazing in this role but the show feels like Netflix's Sabrina series 2.0. Underwhelming, not really heave atmosphere. Just a remake to try and profit from something people liked in the past and trying to keep it relevant to the younger audience - thus romance plot and tik tok references. For me it lacks the charm and weirdness the movies managed to embrace.
@Bad Boys Boogie I stopped in the middle of 6th episode because I noticed I got so bored that I didn't even pay attention to the episode anymore. I doubt I will try to finish it. I really wanted to like it but I can't force myself to. Maybe if they make 2nd season I'll give it another try.
@Bad Boys Boogie the tv series isn't that dark. It doesn't have the atmosphere. Why are you hating everyone who said they didn't enjoy the show? Not everyone will like a show made for teens. You can enjoy it and others can not. That is how humans work. It's not that deep. And I don't even know what is "andor". Don't project your thoughts on other people. I'm not going to respond to your next comments if it you don't accept that I am allowed to have my own opinion. Have a nice day tho
I loved this show! Some of the things I liked: -I really like how they didn’t let some of the other characters in the background overstay their welcome. I think this show tried not to let anything or anyone overstay their welcome. And in my personal opinion, they did great with that. They did as needed and Wednesday offered sone good dialogue and interaction that didn’t make it terrible. -I liked how they set up the story line and loved trying to solve the mystery before it was revealed. I was constantly going back and forth trying to figure it out. -Though this could align with the first point, I really liked how they made the main side characters add to the story even if some moments weren’t the greatest without Wednesday-which could be due to them not having enough screen time, but I think they did amazing despite the limited screen time. I personally think it was great regardless. -I typically don’t like the supernatural romance stories because I don’t really like romance. But Wednesday in my opinion, puts a new perspective on it. The way Wednesday navigated those moments were great in my opinion. Romance is not her thing and I’m totally for it. Other thoughts: I’ve seen people say that the show isn’t great and that Wednesday isn’t great. But I think there’s some kind of biases going on as Christina Ricci is the only version they knew. So something new is going to land differently and they’ll probably take a bit to come to see it with a different perspective. I also think the pacing is really good. It was somewhat rushed near the end, but I thought it was barely noticeable-I really only noticed it during the later narration near the end to be honest. I loved the final stand off at the end and how the characters all got to shine without over doing it or as I’ve been saying, without overstaying their welcome. But in all honesty, it has been the first Netflix show that I’ve watched in ages that I actually did not continuously press the 10 second skip button to get through or along with the story. I often found myself rewinding a little to catch things I didn’t a moment prior. I find that most shows are quite slow or just sits on certain things too long. Sometimes they focus way too much on romance and all that can stop the actual story from progressing in my opinion. Though those elements can be good, I think that many shows just doesn’t pace it well in my opinion. I think that this show did a fantastic job at not over saturating the story with pointless plots or characters. I stayed engaged and that was amazing as it is a very difficult thing to keep me engaged in shows these days. So I fully give it a 5/5 ⭐️ stars! I 💯% recommend!
I hate this show. Visuals are the best thing about it. Story is bad, pacing is bad. It's not dark enough. It's corny. Feels like it's made for 10 year olds which is ironic given the rating the show actually got. It's target audience won't actually get to see it.
Wednesday was not NEARLY as creepy and weird as she was supposed to be. She was not even pale enough. And making her a detective??? She CAUSES murder cases, she doesn't try to SOLVE them! This was pathetic and totally bland. Was Tim Burton even involved? 4/10 from me.
I would rate this a solid 8/10 possibly higher. I understand a lot of people don’t really like it but I think I know why. If you come into this show wanting to watch the classic adams family you will be disappointed. This is something entirely new. It’s it’s own thing. This is like if Riverdale met Adams family and I actually enjoyed that. They created a small town world and developed key characters within it. Idk what people are talking about bad pacing or writing. I binged this late at night and I was able to keep up fine. Anyways I’m definitely hoping for a season 2 and I’d definitely recommend this show.
i don't understand why studios think that "gen-z" updates of classics is ever a good idea. go watch any episodes of the old 60s show and the humor is actually better than the show. the show can still be salvaged imho, but the whole gen-z update is making the show a mixed bag. the cast is good but the writing is disappointing. i'd give the cast 8/10 and the writers a 2/10 tbh.
I find it funny tho because people expect this to be a addams family series when its literally called wednesday and they expect it to be like the 90s and 60s versions
The show was okay in some ways, but it doesn't feel like Addams. With the addition of traditional monsters, super powers, etc, it feels like lame fan fiction.
agree with this, although it's not ortega's fault that the writers devolved her character through a gen-z filter. part of the reason why ricci's portrayal is iconic is because the writers of those movies didn't compromise on the dark humor and made this girl unapologetic about her wednesday-ness. the netflix show otoh is literally calling her "toxic" and totally missing the point of the addams family dark satire
@@maggyfrog your kinda missing the point this Wednesday is meant to be the way she is this isnt a comedic story like the 90s movies where Wednesday was literally a child saying stuff that came out of her mouth 24/7 this wednesday is being developed for a darker story in this world its not the addams family its Wednesday and wednesday only
@@MyBitch925 no YOU'RE missing the point that the addams family as a whole is supposed to be dark satire. the 90s movie is more along the lines of campy horror fun, but the movies never lost sight of the humor aspect which is what makes addams family the iconic pop culture thing that it has been since half a century ago. making a serious take is fine, but losing sight of the dark humor is just terrible writing all in the name of "updating" the brand.
@@maggyfrog you keep saying the 'addams family' but its 'wednesday' her storyline THIS is tim burtons version of wednesday addams this isnt some comedy bullshit like the 90s and 60s versions it may not be as dark but its still not supposed to be compared to those versions of the family which is obvious considering the show isnt called the addams family
I just finished the first episode. I grew up with the Addams Family movies and my parents grew up with the television show. I love the idea that Wednesday gets her own spin off and a chance to develop her character.
I just finished it and wow it was phenomenal, I really enjoyed it. Such a good show. I loved the Addams family as a kid so it was great to watch this. And Jenna Ortega is so talented. Her performance of Wednesday was incredible
I'm a 90's kid that grew up watching the Addams family movies which I adored. I also loved the 1960's TV series. I decided to give it a chance. I'm on episode 6 but it's a struggle for me to continue. I think Jenna Ortega is amazing in the role. But the school setting seems so Monster High-ish ( the howling werewolves are freaking annoying). I think putting her in a Boarding School that seemed "normal" on the outside and each episode hinting at the supernatural would have worked a lot better in my opinion. I hate the love triangle, too cliche, and would preferred her just falling in love with the "normie" like with Tyler in this series or Joel in the Addams Family Values movie. I think Catherine Zeta-Jones does an Ok job. But the actors who play Pugsley and Gomez are bland, as well as Bianca and Xavier. I'll try to finish it, but believe that the Addams Family shines when they are placed in "Normal" settings and how people react to them.
Yep. They killed the fish out of water element. And I actually don't think Jenna did a good job here. I've seen her be great in Scream and You, but this one is a milquetoast performance.
Give it a go. I enjoyed it and I’m 53 having seen all previous adaptations. Gomez was refreshing to see in that light. Ortega bodies Wednesday. The love interests were lackluster but overall I enjoyed this. I saw the ending coming and even with that I still enjoyed all the lead up and sub stories
I’m 40 minutes into this show and it sucks. Just seems like a missed opportunity. You got Tim Burton you got The Addams Family but somehow it’s some teen drama about tik tok and girls who wanna be different.
I thought she would be killing not trying to find killers and turn them in. Then the whole school was afraid of the monster but it only took one amateur wolf to stop it but the school was full of wolves. The guy that came back from the dead died way too easy. I wanted to see more from her family. But I enjoyed watching it. The hand was one of my favorite characters
Yeah like it took one rookie wolf to kill the serial murderer monster they’ve been hyping since episode 1. It’s either rookie wold got serious buff, or they nerfed golum monster
Didn’t work for me.. “why so serious ?” missed the cast and the jokes from Adams Family and Adams Family values… which had an equal dose of spookiness and humour.
What makes Wednesday such a special character is we know she is larger than life. Her and her family bring you that sense of wonder and escapism. But placing her with some ‘outcast’ teenagers just doesn’t work. No ones matching her energy and it sucks.
The show really does suck. It's definitely like Disney star maker machine teeny bopper humdrum vanilla cheesy Flandersesque churchy G-rated slowmance, without the goofiness of an also boring Goosebumps iteration. I loathe it. It's embarrassing. Humiliating. If Jenna took off her face and Zack Morris was under there, I wouldn't be surprised, but I WOULD be relieved to get some energy on the screen.
It's puke. It's rubbish. Or, is that an insult to puke and rubbish? I really wanted to like this, but it's stupid. There's no Adams family. A school for outcasts isn't funny. If they're going to do that, they might as well lean into ripping off Harry Potter and at least do it well. There's no world building in Wednesday. It's a boring imitation of something, but I don't even know what. It's seriously like what my boring old aunt thought goths were, plus glittery "outcasts" who seem like affluent popular model kids donning some glasses or smirking pompously for no reason. Everything seems artificial, hollow, and pointless. The Scooby Doo movie monsters looked more believable. I just...ugh. The show is bleh. It's a no. Entirely.
I think the coming of age was great bc it didn't rely on the teen high school tropes. The issue between her and the queen bee was minor and the show didn't harp on it. But, Xavier was in love with Wednesday for no reason. There was no build up to that at all
I finished it few hours ago and it was really good till somewhere at the mid episodes But wasn't a big fan of the last few episodes, felt very generic Hollywood ending which could've gone way better with what the earlier episodes were setting up for. Didn't liked one particular reveal at the end and felt it has taken little too long to get there which could've happened 1,2 episodes earlier. The story could've been more tight and total 6 episodes would've been perfect. Though overall i enjoyed it and if they ever plan to make season 2 i hope it gets more better from there and hopefully better than this season. Very good show but not the Best!! 8/10.
Exactly. The first half of the season was great. Then the stories became a disjointed and illogical mess. I loved the humor though. And fell in love with Enid and Wednesday. They are so adorable.
love that they made a show for wednesday but its a bit underwhelming its less eccentric and less dark.... i prefer the addams family movies with ricci in it she plays the role perfectly... i also prefer the animated addams family over this series...
Liked the series and give it two thumbs up...but was I the only one who saw the blatant parallels of this series and Harry Potter? For as much as I liked it, I can't help but wonder if the writers simply ate Harry Potter, regurgitated it, and gave the people and places new names -- especially the final episode.
It was a decent show. would go 65% but I had a lot of fun because of Wednesday the gothic aesthetic and the music but writing wise I though it was just ok
I liked Sabrina. At least Kiernan Shipka had charisma and energy. That show could be scary and funny. This show is neither. Sabrina didn't shy away from adult topics. This one is cheesy and in a pandering oppressive way. It's dull kiddie schmaltz.
I don't really like shows that go down the route of teenage angst stuff like sex education and euphoria but honestly the character develeopment for the main protagonist in this show (Wednesday) is really good. IMO she doesn't come across as annoying or unlikeable but actually really smart and talented for example mastering the violin, extensive knowledge in botany and not using social media at all which i think approves a deeper meaning in the show that people who don't use social media will have more free time on their hands to do those paticular things which command a lot of respect. I wish more writers nowadays would understand that the thing people want most from a story is good character development.
Wednesday came off as more of a pick-me girl to me. Which was kind of a bummer. I get that it's a family show, but for her to glorify murder and serial killers, but also be upset about a monster killing people... Just doesn't make sense? In one scene she has a snarky line where she says her uncle went to prison for "eating girl scouts for breakfast", but also is beside herself finding out her father MAY have killed someone. Inconsistent in my opinion.
@Bad Boys Boogie She was explaining why she doesn't show emotions and why crying won't fix anything while telling the story about her pet. Not explaining her dark humor nor sadistic tendencies whereby the Addams were universaly known. And wasn't it her who put a bunch of piranhas in the swimming pool and didn't feel remorse after? Doesn't seem like a joke to me. I know she did it to get revenge for his brother but I doesn't erase that she didn't mind hurting/killing others.
My main complaint other than Tim Burton not directing everything is that they didn’t give this show 2 more episodes to grow and really let the story play out in a natural more organic way.
I personally don’t like it, it’s like there trying to make Wednesday into something she isn’t. Her parents praised her weirdness and creepiness and now it’s like they don’t like it, it’s confusing
I had to turn it off. When they were introducing the different groups of kids in prologue, and one group howled just as they were introduced as werewolves? Instantly trash. If this is what young adults find cool now, then we need to start over with a new group of kids. Addams family style.
i loved wednesday addams in the serie but her family not so much. i found them less eccentric in a bad way, they almost appear to be normal people and less maccabre like the 90's. I loved the 90's movie so much that it clouds my judgement and i was happy they had only small appearances in the serie.
I just got done with episode 1. I feel like its fallen a bit short so far. Like i know whats its trying to be, but its mot quite making it. Being thrown right into exposition, rather than a slower burn. Its had a few good moments, and a fair few clichéd moments too. I really hope that the show finds its feet.
I just watched and it's pretty awesome. If the writing stays good and Tim Burton keeps directing it then this show will have a long running. The cast is perfect. It's not going to be good if Tim isn't directing it. No one else has his type of vision. This show needs to keep that Bettlejuice, Sweeny Todd, Nightmare Before Xmas, Alice in Wonderland, Sleepy Hollow, Dark Shadows types vibes.
I liked the show, but Jenna straight up carried the show. The Writing certainly wasn’t great but Jenna made the role her own. I’m glad it focused on her because I couldn’t stand Guzman’s Gomez.
@Bad Boys Boogie i felt a lot of it was generic and sorta Teenie Bopper( I get that’s who the audience is) a lot of the twists didn’t feel right in execution. The writing wasn’t bad by any stretch but I didn’t find it to be great 🤷♂️. I hope you did though!
Am I the only one who thinks Bianca stole the spotlight from Wednesday in the last episode? Like I don't think she earned that and I feel like it ended too quickly. I wish Wednesday had more action towards the end. Crackstone was teased a lot through out the season, but his only weakness was a sword through the heart. Pretty underwhelming if you ask me.
Pretty bad with the pandering to Generation Z and Wednesday doesn't feel like a fish out of water because everyone is crazy. I doubt that I will even finish it.
Spoilers: It would have been insanely cool if xavier used his power on the paintings in the courtyard to fight in the final battle. They kinda accidentally set it up by showing him painting all those birds there so much. Would have loved to see him do a painted bird attack on mr pilgrim.
I like the show but can we admit that the entire show is just all the characters including us the audience becoming Obsessed with Wednesday. She has absolutely no redeeming qualities and if she does there minuscule but they hinted it so well which was genius and a little satisfying, but I just wish it was a little more darker. What made the show to be honest is Wednesday’s snarky remarks (Jenna Ortega performance) and the camera shots. The plot was pretty mid, some side characters pretty mid, and the overall edgy/ dark part of the show…pretty mid. I was hoping for a Witty Gore psychological Horror with a sprinkle of real dark humor. But what we got was “Legacies” Or a Batwoman solving a case, but with a better director and script. The fact they aired it in November and not October, I think we all know that it didn’t do the show much justice. I really wanted to say Masterpiece but it’s just another really good show. I Wish they had the ppl from “YOU” and “Umbrella Academy” helping make this what it could’ve been. The Shows still good tho so it’s meh 🤷🏽♂️
And also Netflix. How are u gonna put a good budget and CGI in Lost in Space but not in Wednesday. Like cgi was some what good, but deep down everyone saw it and liked it but we all kinda said yikes when we saw the Hyde look semi cartoony, like cmon on now. Also we all like the Roommate Wednesday has but give her a better potty mouth. Wednesday is suppose to be intelligent why is she against the ropes by a Normie who couldn’t tell between Weems & Tyler, but she’s some how able to infiltrate the Nightshades Secret society & Nevermore? The shows still good but there’s a good amount of contradiction. And for the love of all Horror MAKE WEDNESDAY an ANTI-HERO!! What’s with this Disney “Descendants” Bs? Where’s the girl who took away a guys testicles with piranhas over bullying? You would think Netflix would be experts after “YOU”, and “Stranger Things”, and the awkward “Chilling adventures of Sabrina”, but no it feels like there just figuring it out. Like everyone, we all know this show shouldn’t be just good, this should be blowing Stranger Things right outta the water and engulfing it in a tsunami.
@@adedsnaccs9989 hopefully it gets a season 2 and they explore more on the dark humor id give this show like 7/10 i like the new interpretation for the character of wednesday the hyde was a bit cartoony but i didnt really mind it much
I was skeptical about Jenna Ortega playing Wednesday. Especially after the iconic portal from Ricci. But Jenna freaking NAILED it! This first season was absolutely a win! Wasn’t too dark for the beginning of the show, but dark enough to get us hooked in and kept that original Wednesday Addams vibe!
It started off good, then it turned onto Nancy Drew, and the writing got super weak. The only horror was enduring the show till its conclusion. I think the actress that played Wednesday was good but they gave her crap writing to deal with. And the implied BJ scene at the dance was a bit inappropriate. And not necessary.
It's fun BUT! I reeeeaally miss and prefer Angelica Huston's Morticia, as a strong, untouchable witch-woman with a sense of dark humor. In this show, Wednesday's mom just seems kinda weak, and it's super inconsistent to me.🤷♂️
I think the best part if the show was Jenna Ortega as wendsday but every thing els dose not feel like something in the adams family hopefully in season 2 they make it feel like the Adams family
I absolutely loved it♥️!!! So much of this show was dependent on Jenna’s performance and she absolutely killed (pun intended) it. Gotta give Fred amisten props too because his uncle fester performance was great!!! Wednesday seeing uncle fester is the only time you see her fully smile. I thought that was dope. The only side characters I didn’t care for were Xavier and Gomez. I give the series an 8 out of 10
i know its a somewhat modernised version but i thought this was amazing it was truly great and cannot wait for s2 the investigation fun mystery supernaturlal elements of it all comes together and really is a amazing show
I don't like the trend of ensemble cast projects getting spun off with the one person(usually the weird one) now the main character. I'd have much preffered this was a show about both Wednesday and Pugsley. I like these franchises because of everyone. I know the rest are in this, but they are not the focus and it really bothers me that it's happening to so many of my favourite franchises. I didn't just hate Velma, I also hate any scooby doo series with less than 2 human cast members.
I grew up with the original series and I love it, and I love the 90's Addams Family movies even more! Just watched first episode of Wednesday. I loved it!! The only thing about it I didn't like, is that they made Gomez fat.. again! Luis Guzmán definitely got the "crazy eyes face" for a Gomez Addams yes.. but in my mind I have never seen Gomez as being fat, witch is actually why I've never been too happy about the animated series, where they portray Gomez as a 260 pound version of Raul Julia. Raul Julia is by far my favorite choice as Gomez. I also love John Astin and Tim Curry's performance as Gomez though they don't look as handsome a version of Gomez as Raul. But common for them all three is that they sure got the "crazy eyes face" and energized spirit for a Gomez Addams! 👍 Hopefully Luis Guzmán will come to show the same energized spirit in later episodes. But in spite of Gomez portrayed as fat, I was really really enjoying this first episode. I am quite sure the rest of the episodes will not disappoint me. At least I have high expectations to the first four episodes being that they are directed by Tim Burton. 👍 -I am now past ep4 and so far it's really great. I've always had a major crush on the Wednesday character ever since Christina Ricci played Wednesday back in the 90's. But Jenna Ortega.. Wauw! I love her as Wednesday even more!! Especially now after the awsome dance sequence in ep4. 😍 And by the way doing it to The Cramps.. ❤ What a really great choice of music for this sequence! Not to forget the Cello sequence in ep1 performing Rolling Stones. - Simply a really great show so far!!
It’s good but, in my opinion in the beginning of the show there’s the cliques and we get a bit in depth in all of them except the stoners. (also, seriously change the name of the clique. It sounds like something else) Like, we have had practically no scenes with the stoners, like there introduced but then they just.. exist. Like cmon why introduce something if there’s no point. I hope if there’s a S2 it will go a bit more in depth with that clique.
Entertaining, but it took me out of my investment how useless males were. It is a pity the lack of representation of good masculine roles: the men were useless, or they were the bad ones.
Jenna Ortega deserves a fuckin Oscar or Emmy for her performance as Wednesday. Christina Ricci of course is legendary in this role.... But I honestly feel like Ortega is better suited. She nailed this beyond what I thought possible.
I love the original Addams family movies. They were great, dark, comedic. Perfect. But I gotta say this show was honestly pretty good! I feel like Wednesday has the potential for a second season this season just seems like ONLY the beginning. The darkness isn’t as prominent but as the episodes went on I feel like the loops, and twist made it darker? I’m really curious about how they’ll start diving deeper into that darkness from the original movies. Because the quirky extra dark stuff has always added to his movies and so far the level of that here is probably a decent 6/10? Anyways can’t wait for S2 the connecting storylines from the past and the other students really adds to the show and give us a bit more to play with!
I love the show. I just feel that there is absolutely no chemistry between Luis and Catherine. Love both of them as actors, but feel they could have chosen better. Morticia and Gonez are such love sick characters, these two have none… BUT…. That’s not who the show is about. Just thought I wanted to mention it somewhere. 😅
i LOVED it 💜but i gotta admit... i knew who the monster was in the first episode. i thought it was too obvious. so if they wanted a twist, it didn't work on me. besides that, i loved it !
I suspected him first of all because his bugeyes match the monster's eyes. But gradually lost suspicion when he seemed nice. Either way the ending was very badly written. Felt like Scooby Doo with how badly executed the end was.
the camp of the 90s addams movies were better. this show still has potential if the writers didn't try to force the "gen-z update" on the "normies vs outcasts" mentality in the show. honestly, it loses it's original charm whenever the show is trying too hard to appeal to the gen-z crowd. it doesn't have to do any of that. even the oldest episodes of the original black-and-white show from the 60s has better humor than this new show. this show is not terrible but it's borderline forgettable. great cast but the writing is dragging down the potential of the show.
This show isnt meant to be like the 60s or 90s its a new story new setting also the show doesnt even appeal too much to gen z it only has like 1 mention of social media like snapchat and insta but thats it
@@MyBitch925 LOL you've got to blind not to see countless attempts to pander to gen-z. i think you're missing the point of what a spin-off is. a spin-off is meant to be in the same universe as the the main franchise. like better call saul is in the exact same world as breaking bad. just becausr it's called wendnesday doesn't mean it exists in a vacuum totally separate from the main franchise. it's a spin-off and you're mistaking a spin-off for an entirely original and new thing.
@@maggyfrog i dont remember tim burton ever saying this show is approximately connected to the 60s and 90s addams family movies if you can give me proof or source than ill gladly apologize and move on
@@MyBitch925 LOL so you really don't know what the word spin-off means 😹 by your ridiculous standards, wednesday doesn't need to be an addams at all 💀 if you want an original character, wednesday is not the show you should be watching 🙃
I'm enjoying this series, but every time Catherine Zeta Jones is on, her makeup looks ridiculous and I keep worrying that they are going to accidentally use real lighting and show her age or pop a bit of her tummy out. She's just so completely tucked, powdered and covered up. Looks fake and weird and her acting feels phony too. I am a bigger fan of the Addams Family from the 90s, but I do like this. It's just not as outrageously funny or as kid-friendly. Both Wednesdays are great, but in different ways. This Wednesday is darker and more brutal, Ricci's Wednesday was cuter, funnier and less of a psychopath, but still very smart and ahead of her time. I really miss Mrs. and Mr. Addams from the 90s.
See, I thought Wednesday in the movies was way more murderous, but cleverly so. This Wednesday isn't cunning. She's boring, hollow. Earlier Wednesday didn't lack emotions, she was past depressed to ennui. It's something that happens to smart people and clearly no one involved with this show has ever heard of it. I wholeheartedly agree with you about Morticia, though. Netflix has a massive problem with their lighting and camera work. This is no exception. The actors look terrible. Even the kids look old. I don't believe the kids when they're annoyed with each other. It all seems disingenuous.
I have loved Wednesday Addams since forever, cosplay comics movies cartoons... even the tame 60s tv version. Ricci in Addams Family Values undoubtedly defined the Wednesday we have all come to now know and love. But the piranha moment in the trailer was satisfying on it's own and J. Ortega looks perfect... Tim Burton is just the icing.
Three episodes in and I love every minute of it... when things flips the bird yep thank you satisfaction first episode. Sometimes it's just the shots moments one-liners screenshot images that do it for me in a show like this I am a goth dad. Lol
@@sidnew2739 something about him just doesn't look right to me Sid. I know he looks something like the cartoon. And I like the actor I'm just not crazy about him in this.
Honestly. I think the first episode sucked (the character gives me “I’m different and quirky” vibes but she’s barely “different” she’s pretty much just emo/goth which isn’t unique) UNTIL the scene near the end of the fair (not gonna spoil it). Yes she did have her magic ability at the beginning but I’m more so referring to when she transferred to the other school.
Side characters are so one dimensional its a joke at this point. Not even talking about expectations cos this show has nothing to do with the classic Addams feel. For the first 2 episodes I had troubles even liking this Wednesday, remove Ortega and this show is a disaster. It's bland even as it is, +the romances feel sooo unnatural and forced. And OF COURSE they had to X-MENIZE the series in the process. Add a little sprinkle of Monster High and boom, we got a cookie cutter supernatural teen show.
Not dark enough. Yeah pal. That’s the point. It supposed to be about Wednesday finally reaching the limit of darkness that her family decides to send her to a different school. I love Nevermore especially. Those who say that this show is bad because you think Netflix can’t do a good job. They CAN do a good job. And guess what? They DID
Reading the comments, I really find it interesting how almost everyone has a bit of a different problem with the series. I personally will say this: I thoroughly enjoyed it, it sucked me in just like The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina did. I just have a weakness for these kinda dark, magic and witchy shows. I do however hate, and I hated it in that show as I hate it in this one, the strange pandering to my generation. I’m 20 years old, so I’m on the older side of Gen Z but am one nonetheless. I know of Internet culture and such and of the political and social issues of this generation, but I find it greatly over represented in (especially US American) TV shows. What I mean here specifically: I cringed, deeply, every time Wednesday used words like “mansplaining” or something with the “patriarchy” or “whitewashing”. Before someone comes for my head let me explain: I have nothing against discussing social issues or criticism of misogyny when it fits the story etc, but in my experience, most people (at least not in my circle) use these words at all or at least not the way Wednesday randomly did. Yes: Wednesday is an edgy, angsty teenager, and she is full of revenge and rebellion and I admire her strength to be independent of others judgement and want Justice for the marginalized- but at the same time, she is a strong character and strong young woman, and no strong young woman, ESPECIALLY those who aren’t on the internet (specifically Twitter) much (she isn’t at all), would say these terms, care to use them or waste any time using them. She also wouldn’t complain so much about these things and instead just go on with business. I’m just glad she didn’t blame others for her actions and that she wasn’t a direct man and/or white people hater, that would’ve made the show unbearable. The accountability for her own actions as well as her rationality (in some regards rational at least) made it so the show was still enjoyable. I also liked the natural LGBTQ+ representation instead of the in your face and “morally righteous” ones that often come up these days. THAT IS how you do it! These two aspects in particular made it so that I could look past these cringy remarks and enjoy the show regardless, but if we’re already on a rant rampage I might as well bring this out because it annoys the daylights out of me. So I will repeat: 99% of Gen Z’lers and other people for that matter do not constantly burst out in buzzword talk and I find it so strange that someone would think to want to relate to that generation by pretending so. It also just seems so uncharacteristically weak minded for Wednesday. I hope this made sense and wasn’t too all over the place xD
Wednesday comes across as a blend of the CW show legacies and Nancy Drew with good production values but the character of Wednesday in this version is not very likable at least in the first three episodes
There aren't many moments where Wednesday isn't on screen, so I don't think that is a huge issue overall. You mentioned teen angst/drama. That is definately present here, but, fortunately, it wasn't as prominent as I expected. Generally, I really liked "Wednesday," coming from someone with minimal experience with the Addams family.
Thoroughly enjoyed this series. Dark and Funny. Adam’s Family meets Harry Potter. Didn’t really push any woke BS. A few plot holes, but nothing too terrible. Wednesday was very enjoyable character. She kind of reminded me of an adolescent 7 of 9 from Star Trek Voyager, but with an delightfully morbid twist to her that is perfect for the show. The episode with Uncle Fester was a lot of fun as well. Looking forward to Season 2 if it happens.
I am stunned that this is the best version of the Addams family that Tim Burton could come up with. who's lackluster idea was it to combine this IP with the horribly cliché monster high teen scenario? They might as well have made it a musical for the Disney Channel. Seriously, a school for outcasts where all the outcasts act like clique forming normal teens obsessed with social media...and Wednesday is somehow the only gothy person? That's again just stupid. Of course Pugsly is made into a wus in this version... 2022 and all male characters have to either be toxic or simp or bumbling or lack agency. It is better than the godawful animated CGI Addams family... but once again lacks the comedic perfection of the 1990s movies, and the near perfect characterizations. This version just feels shoehorned into a something not what it is
What is your FAVORITE Addams Family project ever??
Did this series work for you?
I am going to admit it
I quite enjoyed the 2019 animated Addams Family movie.
Besides those, the 2 classic movies with Raul Julia, what a Gomez he was.
As for Wednesday the Show, I hope its entertaining at least.
My favorite part is when the credits rolled
Adam's family values
It's between the 1960's series and 1990's Addams Family Values.
Hey buddy I’m Matt. I love Disney and Winnie the Pooh. Do you?
I absolutely hated the love triangle; it was so unnecessary and honestly just made me groan whenever I saw the two bland slices of white bread interacting with Wednesday. I will say, though, by the end, that Tyler's "infatuation" actually made sense because he was trying to manipulate her.
LMAO slices of white bread😭
I felt like that too but now I kind of appreciate it because both of them were unhealthy obsessions. I do wonder though if Tyler ever actually liked her
Jenna Ortega herself said she hated the triangle and didn't want it
@@robinb9359 Is that the actor for Wednesday?
@@zanamations1284 yep
The show was short I felt it was rushed and impatient but I saw it as Tyler pushed and the other guy got jealous and felt he needed to save her since she saved his life
Wednesday can be the best role model...
1. She is anti social media
2. She writes novels
3. She plays musics
I'm in love....
she is the average millenial then
People seem to forget what kind of messed up stuff the Addams family get up to.

The 90s Addams Family movies are the best.

@@petermartens6797 hey buddy I’m Matt what’s up. I love Disney. Do you?
Don't sleep on the original 1960s version
Adams family values is the best
I loved this show!
Some of the things I liked:
-I really like how they didn’t let some of the other characters in the background overstay their welcome.
Other thoughts:
I’ve seen people say that the show isn’t great and that Wednesday isn’t great.
More like "Harry Potter" meets "AF".
I like it, too.
Meh. They should have just made a new thing and called it "Abby Darkness" or something. This is a mess.
i don't understand why studios think that "gen-z" updates of classics is ever a good idea. go watch any episodes of the old 60s show and the humor is actually better than the show. the show can still be salvaged imho, but the whole gen-z update is making the show a mixed bag. the cast is good but the writing is disappointing.
i'd give the cast 8/10 and the writers a 2/10 tbh.
I find it funny tho because people expect this to be a addams family series when its literally called wednesday and they expect it to be like the 90s and 60s versions
@@maggyfrog Obviously wrong.
The 60's Show has much tamer humor.
The show was okay in some ways, but it doesn't feel like Addams. With the addition of traditional monsters, super powers, etc, it feels like lame fan fiction.
Yep! Inauthentic, lame reworking of something that didn't need fixing.
To me no one can match Ricci as Wednesday, but Ortega did a really good job.
agree with this, although it's not ortega's fault that the writers devolved her character through a gen-z filter. part of the reason why ricci's portrayal is iconic is because the writers of those movies didn't compromise on the dark humor and made this girl unapologetic about her wednesday-ness. the netflix show otoh is literally calling her "toxic" and totally missing the point of the addams family dark satire
@@maggyfrog your kinda missing the point this Wednesday is meant to be the way she is this isnt a comedic story like the 90s movies where Wednesday was literally a child saying stuff that came out of her mouth 24/7 this wednesday is being developed for a darker story in this world its not the addams family its Wednesday and wednesday only
@@MyBitch925
no YOU'RE missing the point that the addams family as a whole is supposed to be dark satire. the 90s movie is more along the lines of campy horror fun, but the movies never lost sight of the humor aspect which is what makes addams family the iconic pop culture thing that it has been since half a century ago.
making a serious take is fine, but losing sight of the dark humor is just terrible writing all in the name of "updating" the brand.
@@maggyfrog that’s why I didn’t like very much Morticia and Gomez in this show. They were too « normal » too emotive.

To be fair, Pugsley has always been bland.
Yep. They killed the fish out of water element. And I actually don't think Jenna did a good job here. I've seen her be great in Scream and You, but this one is a milquetoast performance.
@@TamaraKane Was she really great in Scream? It was average at best and no peformance really stood out.

Notice how pale her face is at the start of the show? By the end of the show, her face gains more colour showing the shift/change in her
I’m 40 minutes into this show and it sucks.
Yea that was so stupid
Didn’t work for me.. “why so serious ?” missed the cast and the jokes from Adams Family and Adams Family values… which had an equal dose of spookiness and humour.
Yep. Not sure what they're trying to do here, but it's abysmal, and not in a quirky kooky way. It's pompous crap, unfortunately.
Thats the whole point its not meant to be all jokey and comedic like those movies
@@MyBitch925 But wasn't it the strongest point in Addams Family? The eccentric characters and a lot of dark humor?
What makes Wednesday such a special character is we know she is larger than life. Her and her family bring you that sense of wonder and escapism. But placing her with some ‘outcast’ teenagers just doesn’t work. No ones matching her energy and it sucks.
It's meant for 14 year old audience. This show blows.
That's KINDA the point my guy
@@sheevpalpatine6139
That the show sucks?
There was no build up to that at all
Not a strong story but Wednesday character is AMAZING
Yoooo this is a good series, she killed it as Wednesday 👏
I agree. This show just isn't good. It comes across as entirely inauthentic. I'd call it cheesy, but I don't think it even attempts humor.
I had a blast with this series!! But the ending was horrible. That final episode ruined characters for me.
Show was hot garbage. They literally just ripped off sabrina and I didn't even like that damn show either
This show sucks imo it was dreadful just going through episode 1.
Yeah. I found it to be nearly unwatchable.
Agreed. So far it's a dud for me. Sad missed opportunity.
Your likely gonna enjoy it i hope
I just watched and it's pretty awesome. If the writing stays good and Tim Burton keeps directing it then this show will have a long running. The cast is perfect.
It's not going to be good if Tim isn't directing it. No one else has his type of vision. This show needs to keep that Bettlejuice, Sweeny Todd, Nightmare Before Xmas, Alice in Wonderland, Sleepy Hollow, Dark Shadows types vibes.
But writing is so bad...
Wait. Did you not like the last 4 episodes?
Tim didn’t direct Nightmare. He wrote the story and wasn’t involved in the filming process
I really liked the series. Also, I have a question.
When are you gonna make your next Oscar Update? I enjoy them a lot!
Hopefully within the next two weeks! I plan to see The Whale next week, so hopefully after that!

It would have been insanely cool if xavier used his power on the paintings in the courtyard to fight in the final battle. They kinda accidentally set it up by showing him painting all those birds there so much. Would have loved to see him do a painted bird attack on mr pilgrim.
No character demonstrated their powers: a whole pack of werewolves and only the woman fought. Men were useless throughout history.
???
@@adedsnaccs9989 hopefully it gets a season 2 and they explore more on the dark humor id give this show like 7/10 i like the new interpretation for the character of wednesday the hyde was a bit cartoony but i didnt really mind it much
I couldn't get past the teen drama type dialogue. Is it worth continuing to watch?
She was awesome as Wednesday. Had the best one liners. Quite enjoyable. I hope Netflix keeps its going for at least 4 seasons.
While watching the first episode my biggest thought was "So this is what a monster high cw show would be."
The show is like Harry Potter in Gothic mode..
In this show, Wednesday's mom just seems kinda weak, and it's super inconsistent to me.🤷♂️
She (Ortega) was awesome in the series "YOU" as well.
Absolutely!
I think the best part if the show was Jenna Ortega as wendsday but every thing els dose not feel like something in the adams family hopefully in season 2 they make it feel like the Adams family
I think the writing sucks bad. It's boring.
I give the series an 8 out of 10
Jenny Ortega and Emma Myers carried the show. I loved it!
hold on THING definetly played a part!
I very much agree but it should have been the show carrying the show, wish it wasn’t only those actors doing most of the work.
Absolutely! Their characters chemistry was one of my favorite parts of the show.
i know its a somewhat modernised version but i thought this was amazing it was truly great and cannot wait for s2 the investigation fun mystery supernaturlal elements of it all comes together and really is a amazing show
I don't like the trend of ensemble cast projects getting spun off with the one person(usually the weird one) now the main character.
Hopefully Luis Guzmán will come to show the same energized spirit in later episodes.
But in spite of Gomez portrayed as fat, I was really really enjoying this first episode. I am quite sure the rest of the episodes will not disappoint me. At least I have high expectations to the first four episodes being that they are directed by Tim Burton. 👍
-I am now past ep4 and so far it's really great.
It is a pity the lack of representation of good masculine roles: the men were useless, or they were the bad ones.
nothing is dark enough for anyone now
Jenna Ortega deserves a fuckin Oscar or Emmy for her performance as Wednesday.
Love it great review. I just started the snow yesterday 👍🏾👍🏾
i LOVED it 💜but i gotta admit... i knew who the monster was in the first episode. i thought it was too obvious. so if they wanted a twist, it didn't work on me. besides that, i loved it !
This show isnt meant to be like the 60s or 90s its a new story new setting also the show doesnt even appeal too much to gen z it only has like 1 mention of social media like snapchat and insta but thats it
@@MyBitch925
LOL you've got to blind not to see countless attempts to pander to gen-z.
i think you're missing the point of what a spin-off is. a spin-off is meant to be in the same universe as the the main franchise. like better call saul is in the exact same world as breaking bad. just becausr it's called wendnesday doesn't mean it exists in a vacuum totally separate from the main franchise. it's a spin-off and you're mistaking a spin-off for an entirely original and new thing.
@@MyBitch925 This show is really trying hard to kiss Zoomer a@@.
@@maggyfrog i dont remember tim burton ever saying this show is approximately connected to the 60s and 90s addams family movies if you can give me proof or source than ill gladly apologize and move on
@@MyBitch925
LOL so you really don't know what the word spin-off means 😹 by your ridiculous standards, wednesday doesn't need to be an addams at all 💀
if you want an original character, wednesday is not the show you should be watching 🙃
Def not cuter
See, I thought Wednesday in the movies was way more murderous, but cleverly so. This Wednesday isn't cunning. She's boring, hollow. Earlier Wednesday didn't lack emotions, she was past depressed to ennui. It's something that happens to smart people and clearly no one involved with this show has ever heard of it. I wholeheartedly agree with you about Morticia, though. Netflix has a massive problem with their lighting and camera work. This is no exception. The actors look terrible. Even the kids look old. I don't believe the kids when they're annoyed with each other. It all seems disingenuous.
Its not meant to be outrageously funny i think this tone is good enough my only flaw is the romance and some of the makeup but thats it really
Lol
The actor playing Gomez got on my nerves so bad. Loved the show but his portrayal was so cringe to me.
I don't care what anyone says it sucks and I would rather drink orange juice after I brush my teeth
Yes! It's garbage.
@@TamaraKane Cope harder, both of you
I can't believe they picked this actor to play Gomez.
Why? He looks very much like the Cartoon-Gomez.
@@sidnew2739 something about him just doesn't look right to me Sid. I know he looks something like the cartoon. And I like the actor I'm just not crazy about him in this.
@@billymanners5752 He's not white enough, eh?
@@sidnew2739 I never realized I was talking to a racist .
@@billymanners5752 I thought I do.
They DID
Unfortunately, it's basically unwatchable if you are older than 15
Reading the comments, I really find it interesting how almost everyone has a bit of a different problem with the series.
Absolutely I hate it when shows include this gen z type commentary in everything. It takes you out of the show. Your comment is so well articulated .
I greatly enjoyed this show & hope there’s a season 2
Hope it gets cancelled
"She's always one step ahead of the game" - i loved the times when she wasn't, and there were quite a few of them
Yes! 70 - 75 are enough.
LOVED this show !!! i could relate to Wednesday a LOT more than I'd like to admit..
Wednesday comes across as a blend of the CW show legacies and Nancy Drew with good production values but the character of Wednesday in this version is not very likable at least in the first three episodes
Tim Burton should do a Munster series. I would definitely watch
Dont like the actress playing Morticia doesnt have the charm for the role in my opinion.
Such a random Dune book in this video 😂😂 cracks me up for some reason 😅
I thought it was just a monster high live action movie but no, easily one of the best Netflix series out there
IMO I RATE this 8/10
1) it kinda keeps the values touch
2) it's darker
3) it's cheesy but in a good way
It kinda gives me off brand Harry Potter vibes but was a amazing show
Austin will you review the last 2 episodes of 1899?
The love story is the best thing ever. The shipper's boat sink. That's the Adams spirit
This show was amazing! I'm looking forward to a season 2!
please just show the name of the movie/series in the thumbnail and not any commentary like "not dark enough" 🙏🏼
Sorry but I have to find ways to attract new viewers! Channel needs to grow.
@@AustinBurke I understand.
I’m halfway through a bing but I would say right now 7.5/10
I am stunned that this is the best version of the Addams family that Tim Burton could come up with. who's lackluster idea was it to combine this IP with the horribly cliché monster high teen scenario? They might as well have made it a musical for the Disney Channel. Seriously, a school for outcasts where all the outcasts act like clique forming normal teens obsessed with social media...and Wednesday is somehow the only gothy person? That's again just stupid. Of course Pugsly is made into a wus in this version... 2022 and all male characters have to either be toxic or simp or bumbling or lack agency. It is better than the godawful animated CGI Addams family... but once again lacks the comedic perfection of the 1990s movies, and the near perfect characterizations. This version just feels shoehorned into a something not what it is
