Jenna Ortega's comments amazed me because of how honest she was being, but when the backlash came, it became obvious this was another Henry Cavill situation. Her changes were not around her not wanting to do something, it was because she thought it didn't fit in with the Wednesday character. Seeminly signing before she read the Addams Family spin off scripts or realised the tone they were aiming before, she was trying to save a show destined for Netflix failure. And for that, the Wednesday producer lost it and attacked her. Fully happy to take the credit, but incredibly angry when we found out who was responsible for what the audience actually liked. It makes you think how much better the entertainment would be, if more people opened their mouth when they knew a script was awful. And the over the top backlash from the media to get her FIRED after breaking records on the show, proves how much they despise anyone who dares speak out against the quality of modern scripts. But what do you think? Let me know your thoughts down below and as always, thanks for watching :)
That's insane man lol like, some random passionate Gen Z actor goes into the industry just wanting to make great art for all generations of people & it succeeds heavily since she sticks to her gut feeling, and the idiotic brainsoft producers get angry at her because she's right and their egos are hurt. The truth is folks, creativity & passion for your work always out beats egotistical producers or writers that want everything to be about love triangles or cringe dialogue. All Henry Cavil wanted to do was make The Witcher the greatest TV show on Netflix with all his passion, they had everything, the biggest game title, an A list celebrity people loved, endless sources of money but they had to ruin it all by turning against him.
Lol total cap first of all I can't understand if she really cared so much if it wasn't about the money she would definitely change lines her role in Scream 4 oh whatever screams acted in because both of them suck and I'm being honest please discard this whatever she knows what directors to show her teeth and while she know others would kill her career all this was another Netflix minor director that really don't have no power
@@tystomrte4442 why the hell do people think that just responding "cap" to someone's point means they rebutted it, it proves nothing and just comes off an ignorance and inability to actually prove your argument
Ortega was known for doing horror films before. The director was Tim Burton. Seems perfectly fair that she thought they were going for something darker and more elevated. She actually practiced the violin and fencing for this role, an incredibly serious persom. And then imagine you come to set and the writers have the ambition level of the vampire diaries ..
If I hired a builder to renovate my kitchen and he just decided to do it the complete opposite since he felt like that would be respecting the style of the house i'd tell him to f*ck right off. An Actor is similar to that, they need to respect what the writers have given her. The most important lesson I learned in acting class is that your number 1 role no matter what is to portray what the script says, you can offer suggestions but that's where the line ends. If she didn't like the script she shouldn't have signed it, simple as that. I hate this woke shite more than anyone nowdays but this kind of response is just silly. Also comparing it to the Henry Cavill situation is totally off considering he approached people behind the scenes and scheduled meetings with them to discuss his issues with the script and handled it professionally the entire way through.
Hollywood: "We want our women to speak their truths and be heard!" Also Hollywood: "Shut the f--- up. Don't you dare talk about issues you had!" Peak Hollywood nonsense in a nutshell.
No one believes Hollywood is genuine about empowering women. Hollywood is still run by predator rapist Harvey Weinstein types, and the casting couch is still a thing.
Jenna probably agrees with a majority of what the Cultural Marxists do, almost definitely the denial of Objective Truth, believing that Personal Feelings determine reality. However, what situations like this clearly demonstrate is that the C.M.'s do not really care about 'The Message'. All those poor pawns are, are just useful idiots to sow discord in the culture. THAT is what they are really after.
there were times that Wednesday felt like it was written by people that had an idea for a generic teen fantasy series and then looked around for an existing IP to attach it to for brand recognition. Not always but definitely at times. It sounds like Jenna was actually familiar with the source material and willing to stand up for it.
I tried watching the first episode after I head how the actress did not go along with the stupid script but the first episode had her talking about patriarchy and taking on 3 bigger boys in a hand to hand fight. Does it get better/worse? I liked the Jenna Ortega's acting, stiff as it was, but I don't know if the plot is for me.
@@MannyNamiro The point of the show is that she isn't a Mary Sue. She is arrogant, makes a lot of mistakes, but eventually learns and grows as a person.
Even re-watching Wednesday, there are scenes where I think to myself, 'Wednesday would never have done this or did that.' Realising how much Jenna Ortega changed and some of those moments that were still there, I fear what the original script would've looked like. Came for Wednesday, stayed for Wednesday.
That's real. I even found some of the scenes were really janky with Wednesday's character, towards the end especially. I had no interest in the love triangle, the payoff kinda fell through with the cop's son, and the siren seemed to flip flop a lot and i found her to be incredibly inconsistent, which is kinda cool given the whole immature angle of children, but it tore away from her character too. (I've got a sweet spot for sea monsters) I actually thought i would hate this show, i didn't grow up with Addams family and the school angle really isn't my scene, but people kept pestering to watch it and in the end I really liked Wednesday. It's nice to know that her actor is a big part of that.
I found a big difference between the first Two episodes and the rest of the season. To me it started as a Hokey reboot and the Wednesday character was just too over the top. Then something changed in Episode three and I binge watched the rest of the show. And I'm NOT the Demo for this show!
Ngl. I was trying to watch it with fam but occasionally i felt this exact feeling. So i eventually dropped it. Ill support her as an actress in future endeavors. Just not this one.
The fact that she understood the character to the point that she nailed it DESPITE the writer's idiocy is impressive. Looks like the casting director who chose her was the most talented person in the production. I loved the series.
But Wednesday is more than just an personality. She was a character. There is nothing wrong with the actor. But the direction of the character is not Wednesday.
The writer sounds like a jealous and bitter teenage girl. Adding comments to Heigls movies like: "that i've just learned exist" and "who could forget the more recent" the nut job..... "(answer just about everyone.)" and "Jenna your'e in a mediocre spinoff of ´the addams family´ thats best known for......" A grown ass woman so full of rage and bitterness towards an actor for things she said that does not concern writer or her life at all. She is so pathetic that it is borderline concerning regarding her mental health. She is a failure herself so she loathes young successful people ( my guess is she most of all despise "succesful young girls" like Jenna) who is loved by her adience and fans. I have seen a lot trough the years, but this writer wins the prize for: Bitch of the year! Congrats Brooke Kato....nuff said, i'm out!!
@@Rayutomoto that not Ortegas fault, she did her best and sure there were some things left she wanted to change but couldn't, she changed the major things. Can you imagine how bad the original script was? Probably like she hulk or Velma.
Fun fact: Leonard Nimoy was heavily noted for doing things like this on the set of Star Trek back in the day. He'd have full blown arguments with Gene Roddenberry and other people behind the scenes about how to portray Spock's character and would flat out refuse to do things that were out of character for him. He actually invented the "Live Long and Prosper" salute because he didn't feel shaking hands was very Vulcan. He also invented the Vulcan nerve pinch because he felt fist fighting was rather crude and violent for a species that prided themselves on their control of emotions. I don't think anyone's gonna argue the iconic nature of Spock. People who have never watched Star Trek know who he is, know the Vulcan salute, know his personality very well and a lot of that you can thank Leonard Nimoy for. Most of the time the difference between an iconic character and a mediocre one is an actor who is willing to speak up and fight for the character that they had a part in crafting. And we used to have respect for actors when they did that, not slam them. But I suppose now we just want actors to be mindless AI bots who we can program to do whatever we want in a scene and never question it or have ideas of their own.
This explains why the new “Spock” was everything that they wanted him (Leonard) to be and everything that the audience didn’t want. They used the time travel as an excuse to make him that way. Leonard’s Spock was and always will be the most memorable.
I didn't know Jenna was the one who changed the script, but I'm actually happy she did!!! She seems to understand the character better than the writers.
@@pelidonte You can see shadows of it still, especially in the early episodes. It feels like Wednesday had a lot of moments where she was a different character. They seem to forget that Wednesday is a nightmare fetishist with a deadpan snark, and treat her like she's got the same standards as most people. This is a mistake. Wednesday also does a lot of actually Wednesday-like behaviors. I think that this makes it clear - assuming, again, everything is as presented - that the Wednesday-like behaviors were Ms. Ortega's alterations, while it is likely what she capitulated on were the most awkward, un-Addams Family moments.
The producers were lucky to get Jenna! She obviously knows the character better than the hack writers do and her changes helped to make this show one of Netflix's biggest hits to date. Several things are out of place like the love triangle; Wednesday smiling when she meets Fester in the woods; and in the final episode she's rescued from danger. Wednesday does not smile and portraying her as a damsel-in-distress who needs to be saved is totally ludicrous. People and monsters need to be saved from her. 😀
If Wednesday had been the way the producers wanted it, it would have been a monumental flop. Jenna single handedly saved the show... All while giving one of the best performances I've ever seen. What a legend
I wouldn't get too excited about season 2, though. Amything remotely successful attracts the disciples of 'the Message' like moths to a flame so expect them to redouble their efforts to fuck it up even harder.
@@The_Mighty_Fiction Yep that's a pattern. Ray of light though, Jenna is to be an executive producer for season two. Is someone listening to the fans ?? Is that possible ???

THANK YOU DISPARU FOR DEFENDING JENNA! But also. Guys... It's not Wednesday Producer that complained about her, it was DeKnight that attacked her, and he WAS NOT even involved with Wednesday show. He got offended by what she was saying in the podcast, and decided to attacked her all because he felt his old coworkers was threatened... How mature was that? Edit: Steven DeKnight was ROASTED online in Twitter for what he was saying within hours. He received massive BACKLASH of what he was saying.
That's great to hear. DeKnight deserves the backlash he's getting, especially since it's not his show. Ortega just talked about putting her foot down when the script went out-of-character. She didn't name names, saying "so-and-so is a shitty writer". She just shared what happened on set, and spoke a bit self-deprecatingly by calling herself "almost unprofessional".
@@RanMouri82 Exactly. She never badmouthed them. Idk why DeKnight translated that into attacking his peers publicly after reading her quote from an article... He was being the immature one
This is what happened to Luke on the new trilogy. The actor literally questioned the script saying " This isn't Luke, Luke is optimistic and sees good on everyone, this isn't him " and the writers shut him down. And what did we got ? A ruined Luke because they needed to destroy his character to fit their narrative that wasn't good to begin with. Jenna is pretty much saving Wednesday. I could feel how the character fluctuated between the narrative, sometimes she was faithful and others almost like a Riverdale's copy show

I'm with Jenna. I'm with anyone trying to protect the source material. These days, it seems Studios and writers all want to "reimagine" the original soutce naterial. Jenna is a very intelligent young woman. Even at her very young age, she knows that her audience wants the real and original Wednesday, not some "new and improved" Wednesday created by a writer who actually dislikes Wednesday Addams. You go Jenna. And judging from the shows ratings, Jenna was right along.
i can 100% guarantee shes never seen the black and white tv show. and shes going off one moves character. or maby one book version. but i watched the adams family, befor it was a cartoon, befor it was a movie. and shes wrong. Wednesday wears dresses.. not pants...
@@fitzroymarcano4565 ... how do you like dresses/ skirts over pants.. you might have missed the point too. they are dark. they still "love" dark things...
It's because if you "re-imagine" enough of it, then you can trademark and profit off of it yourself rather than have to provide income or recognition to someone else.
If Jenna already tried her best to save the show once Tim Burton stopped directing it (there's a massive difference in scripts and tone between the first 4 episodes and the other 4), this just bodes well for season 2 where she was given more power to shut up these writers who clearly aren't up for the job. As an Addams Family fan, I'm glad she did what she did.
I really liked the first few episodes, but definately noticed a change towards the back half where Wednesday stopped being Wednesday. Never knew there was a director change, but if season 2 is the same director as the later episodes of season 1 I'm not going to get my hopes up ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
There are tons of contradictions and simply bad writing in the script but I am glad that Jenna actually fought for trying at least to keep some of it consistent
Jenna Ortega earned a massive amount of respect from me when I learned about this, and I hope she knows how thankful a lot of us are for what she's done for the show, she deserves her moment in the sun
She played that role to perfection and the fact that the director wanted her to do it differently makes me have so much more respect for her as an actress. Not only did she not have any help creating that depiction of the character, she had to fight against people trying to prevent her from doing it well.
The writers, directors, and producers should be thrilled to have an actress who is so interested in the character and source material, and who is talented enough to write her own lines, and choreograph a dance that goes viral. And she's only 21! They are lucky to have her.
If modern society has taught us anything, it's that the few who fail upward accelerate the process exponentially: incompetent people understand intuitively that they occupy a position they haven't earned and don't deserve, so their first instinct is to surround themselves with people even MORE incompetent than they are. This ensures that, when failure inevitably occurs, the blame will be dispersed amongst the herd, with no one bearing sole responsibility for it; it also throws up so much chaff that it's hard to single out one particular person to take the axe to, in order to fix the problem. That, ladies and gentlemen, is the Democrat Party in general, and the Biden Administration in particular. 🤷♂️
It's clear she's a fan of the franchise and the character and I'm glad she fought back to try to maintain a good product for the audience. We need more actors who care about source material.
We’ll get there, but the consumers of these products have to speak up to those who make it and the actors have to make their wish list projects known so those looking for actors know who are passionate about the genre/story
I can imagine Tim Burton wanting to write for her in the future in much the same way he did for Johnny Depp. Sometimes you find the perfect match and you don't want to waste that opportunity.
Same. I wasn't interested in it, but so many different people recommended it to me, that a month ago I finally watched it. And it was fun! And entertaining. And unexpected. Jenna is great in it. Can't wait for season 2!
Remember the good old times where movie or series producers often asked for the actors' opinions/suggestions and collaborated with them to produce masterpieces? I miss that.
@@pandaman1331 But with YOUR help, we can make that happen. With just a bit of your support, we can make directors respectable and help create better movies by proxy.
Honestly, Ortega was the best part of the show. There was a lot in it that really STILL felt out of character. I appreciate that she tried to help prevent them from "Velma"ing Wednesday.
Unprofessional -- nope this is what a real professional is someone who is willing to call out BS and be willing to push to make a product the customers can appreciate and enjoy. Kudos to her, we need more people willing to do this in media and movies!
yeah, unprofessional would be doing blindly what you're told. professional is when you know what you're doing and only do it because you know it is good for the result.
It Is un professional for people that expect their employee to be mindless drones rather than actual people. And considering the story of Hollywood and young women... They really don't want them to talk. Another actress from a similarly recent Netflix product literally reported her disgust at working in the enviroment again After the sexual advances from a producer.
Here's the problem in a nutshell: People started standing up to diva behaviour of actors, saying "you're not so special, the only reason why you have a job is because writers tell you what to say", which, don't get me wrong, is a good thing, keeps you humble and all that, but the problem is that it's the writers who now start to have diva behaviour and no one is standing up to them yet.
I have to agree with you on that which is why whenever I criticize a show I criticize the writing now instead of the Character especially when there is a huge dip in quality
It's not just the writers, also the producers. I think NETFLIX should start getting rid of these writers and producers so the ones that stay know they have to try harder.
She played Wednesday perfectly! I loved her acting! Now Mortica and Gomez were awful. They weren't authentic at all. The actors did their best, but their scripted lines and plot were terrible. Overall, it was Wednesday that made it wonderful! Thank you soooo much, Jenna, for standing up for the quality of Wednesday! ❤️
I thought Pugsley was way out of character, he's usually just as sadistic as his sister, watching him get bullied, stuffed in a locker and acting meek and insecure just seemed wrong.
Christopher Lee did the same thing in almost every Dracula movie he was in. If there was a line that didn't fit the character he either cut it or changed it. Because a character that the actor cares about is sacred. They know that character like the back of their hand and want to do it justice. Jenna Ortega was fantastic and she made the character of Wednesday her own. In short Jenna did good 🖤
Christopher Lee also did the same thing on Lord of the Rings and unsurprisingly they thanked him for it because they wanted to make the best movie they could.
@@joshs7276 the stab in the back scene, he gave his input as someone who has actually witnessed a stabbing in the back. Nothing they can say after that.😅🤐
That's the thing. Many times a scene was changed because of an actor. Maybe these directors/producers need to have a little humility. Sometimes the best scenes are ad lib.
Yep. She was already really likable and this whole thing makes me think she's going to end up with a long career behind the camera, even when she retires from being in front of it. She actually wants to make something that represents what it's supposed to be, instead of being a skin hack writers can wear to produce their 'own stories.'
I'm starting to believe that all the things I didn't like about Wednesday were just the result of Jenna having to pick her battles. The fact that she wanted it to be darker and stick to the source material makes me think that maybe it wouldn't have been such a magical high school drama type series if she'd had more control, which gives me more hope for season 2 with her being an executive producer. I found the whole plot of a serial killer and trying to clear Gomez' name really conflicting with the Addams Family themes of them loving pain, murder, torture and death. It felt like it was trying to force a more CW type plot line into the Addams Family universe which only served to test the convictions of their established personalities which are supposed to just be a joke for the audience, to which they ultimately had to back down and say "Yeah, you got us, we don't really like being murderers or getting stabbed. We're just posers."
Yeah if this was a closer-to-the-source Addams Family, Gomez would have been let go with not enough evidence and them trying to prove he DID do it as it would be a shame to fail at a murder or whatever... That is the whole fun theme about it tbh. How backwards they are.
I haven't seen the show so I can say I also expected a darker show than what it appears to be. I mean, they're suppose to be weird and totally opposite from the rest of us, making you always baffled by the way they think. Same happened with Witcher, I was hype, and the first ep was a great intro, but then it was just going downhill more and more and I don't think I even finished the first season. Unfortunately people like making movies/series/games based on whats trending on social media, rather than what could be good.
I had to read your post to be reminded of the "clearing Gomez's name" plot, even as I was struggling to remember just that one as one of the prime examples of ways that the Wednesday series seemed to forget what the Addams are all about. The plot itself was fine...but _not for the Addamses._ "My, aren't you a lady killer?" compliments somebody to Gomez. "Acquitted!" his his response. (Note: not "not guilty.") When the (presumed) stripper is baked alive in the cake, Gomez's reaction is one of genuine pity ("That poor girl...") followed by shaking it off with "C'est la vie!" and moving on with the bachelor party. Wednesday would never be offended that somebody would accuse her father of murder. She would be offended by the notion that her father would be _caught_ or otherwise would be so sloppy. She certainly wouldn't have issue with the possibility that he really _did_ do the crime! This was wildly incongruous with everything else, but I can definitely see why you couldn't fix that just with scene-by-scene changing Wednesday's take on things. Her motivation and the plot demands of this ill-conceived arc forced her to behave like a different character. IT would've required multiple episodes to be rewritten with underlying plot threads uprooted and rewoven to capture it correctly, I think.
The producers are idiots. This girl not only has the talent but a serious work ethic. She learned the cello, sword fighting and a lot of other things to make this character the best it can be. That is not some entitled brat, that is someone that knows the difference between a great show and the crap they would want her to do. She was 100% right. This show would never have been the rage doing it their way. Jenna has brains to go with those looks.
Jenna and Henry Cavill are one of the few reasons I think the film industry has still a future. They are not yes-man (or ma'am in a lot of cases at Disney nowadays) and wants to do their job right. You know, acting a character to its best to how it was supposed to be originally :D Keep 'em coming, these two are gold in my book.
@@ComradeCommissarYuri Most likely yes. I think they wanted to deviate from the "old" Superman too much which would not sit well with Cavill. For me, Cavill is 'the' Superman, just like Ryan is Deadpool. Just perfect cast, played really well. But if they want to infect some nonsense into it, thats no longer Superman either way, so its better that Cavill is not tainting his career with a badly written show. But we need to wait and see if it even gets into production and what they'll do with it.
@@pzmoore007 Yes, there are only a handful of actors right the top of my head who take time and immerse themselves into the character. Its usually method actors and Shakespeare actors (theater actors) who have a tendency to do so. A pity, but even a great actor can only do so much with a bad script and crap writing :( That needs to change first because it feels its low effort, just churning in bad quality films one after the other with a (very) few exceptions.
I was really doubtful about Jenna but now I realize that FINALLY, we have a young actor (around my age) who is not brainwashed and politicized and has talent instead of pride.
There are a lot of examples in the history of Hollywood where actors consciously made script changes to improve the depiction of the character they were playing or the story as a whole. The original Star Wars trilogy is infamous for Lucas changing at least some portions of the trilogy thanks to advice from the actors and his wife. In this particular case, it sounds like she did the entire film crew and Netflix a favor, since it was very much on the brink of being awful but the character of Wednesday 100% saved the entire show.
Actors aren't puppets. It's not unprofessional for them to have creative flexes. Brilliant actors aren't just going to deliver lines without question. They are going to internalize that character and deliver an authentic performance.
Given 30 days, I'm confident Ortega could have submitted a better script than the "professionals" in the writer's room. She's that talented. there's a big difference between entitlement and having standards. jenna clearly cares about her career and the integrity of the addams' family legacy, and the producers just want to make money. so keeping their narcissistic views is in their best interest than admitting fault in their plot/characters
Jenna will blow up when it comes to acting. If she cares this much passion for her work and even willing to fight the writers to get the best quality of her and their work. She called out the stupid actions in an act of niceness. Trying to meet what she thought was a mutual goal to make the best work possible for the audience. Even if it’s not said all that much out loud, she has a massive amount of support and respect.
This is interesting. There were quite a few uncharacteristic things about Wednesday in the show. If what we got was “saved” version of Jenna, I can only imagine how different their version would be
Honestly, they should not have had Xavier and Tyler having a crush. They should have had Xavier trying to befreind her. Since they childhood best friends even though Wednesday doesn't remember him. Than have Tyler try to befreind and date her as well as try to befreind the rest of the outcasts. Enid will be initially suspicious because her like the other outcasts probably have a bad experience with normies but also Enid being empathetic senses something is off about Tyler but can't place it. Though this could also be framed as jealousy or possessiveness which is also in character for Enid. So Tyler ultimately befriends everyone just to betray them and Wednesday realize he is the Hyde after she kisses him. Than trys to torture him but everyone is reluctant cuase they were befreinded. Just to reveal Wednesday was right all along and even though Wednesday is a jerk sometimes she was right and ultimately doing the right things for the right reason. Which she was in the show she just didn't bother explaining "I'm trying to protect you guys from literally dying!" Which if she would have at least expressed this to Enid I think Enid would have understood but Wednesday did none of this. They literally could have kept everything the same but just not make Xavier a love interest what so ever. Also make Tyler befreind or try to befreind everyone before ultimately betraying them. Would have been more impactful
Jenna is the best Wednesday I’ve seen in years. And it’s nice to see an actress stand up for the source material instead of letting it get ruined by an egotistical writer or some BS political agenda.

I absolutely loved Wednesday. It was a full display of dark humour, and was a very good display of the Addams Family dynamics. Jenna Ortega was a perfect cast, she understood that Wednesday is a "dark" character, not an "evil" character. She loves her Brother, she just shows it in a dark way. She is loyal to her friends, despite her attempts to come off as: unconcerned. And that Dress? My god, that was peak goth aesthetics.
This is something every professional author MUST learn. It‘s crucial in any kind of creative work: Don‘t take things personally and absolutely learn how to freaking cherish criticism and learn to embrace and seek it. By the way if you know the character of Wednesday, you definitely would know, that a love triangle does not fit into her world nor her character whatsoever. It’s just another author who has not more Ideas than coming up with the trope, rather said cliché, of a love triangle for a YA show. Come on Hollywood authors. Do something worth your salary!
Wish actors put up boundaries like this much more. It’s so incredibly disgusting that people with “power” are trying to cancel her for expecting better.
Holy shit I think I’m falling in love with Jenna Ortega. My heart is sped up the more I hear of her artistic integrity and her refusal to submit to these creatively bankrupt narcissists
Even as it was ,Wednesday turned out to be too milk toast. She is supposed to be a borderline ( yeah, let’s call it that) psychotic personality. If some of the dark that was in it was Jenna’s doing then this show really avoided a flaming wreck of the show. Thanks to her. A bloody miracle.
Wow this makes me love Jenna Ortega even more. Because I liked Wednesday but I had some problems with it because at times it was to much of a teen drama and not dark enough and not what I expected. But hearing it would be even more of a teenage drama and even less dark without Jenna Ortega because honestly it should be a lot darker
Well it crystal clear, if jenna Ortega did put her foot down. The Wednesday show was going to be a CW Teen Drama that was there to subvert and deconstruct the character Wednesday. All they know how to write is woke valley girls from LA and NYC.
As someone who originally thought she was overrated… I can honestly eat my words and say I have massive respect for her, and I hope she gets lots more work in the future. I had foolishly passed judgement before seeing the bigger picture. Stand up for yourself, girl! These arrogant directors/writers/producers need to be knocked down a peg or five. We need more stars like Jenna Ortega, and Henry Cavill, and even Robert Pattinson.
The one thing that I LOVED the most about the show was that her character was so consistent !!! The moment I knew this is when the girls try to get her to come into the dress shop and you really think - based on what you know about modern TV - she's gonna go in and just suddenly get some "girly" moments cuz that's what the TV show needs. And when she actually says " NO"....I was like, YES. This show is consistent. This show stays true to the characters. And I was amazed.
Crazy to think that this young woman is the strong, talented, independent, POC that the media supposedly craved and wanted....... And they're throwing her under the bus...... Jenna, you're awesome. Keep up the hard work and hopefully, you'll work with a producer in the near future that appreciates the input. After all, some of the greatest moments in cinema are adlibs.
They don’t really want any of that though. They just want a token to parade around to boost their own ego about how progressive they are. Her actually being it and them being mad about it proves how fake it all is.
@A Zee these people only care if you play along and stay in line. They don't like it when you stand up to them, and if you do they take any sympathy they would have shown you away from you.
In case you are curious. This was what exactly happening: 1. Jenna was doing a podcast with Dax Shepard and being very honest in it, like she usually does in her live-streaming and interviews. 2. Steven DeKnight (an old friends of Wednesday's writers from their 'Smallville' project together) got offended by something she said online and labelled her as 'Toxic' and 'Entitled' without listening to the whole podcast and understanding the context of it. He has NEVER worked with Jenna or known the whole situation on set. 3. Jenna turned off her Twitter account because she didn't want to deal with DeKnight and the haters. Her fans were panicking because of this. (This happened exactly during Scream VI premiere) 4. Her fans and most people in Twitter turned and attacked DeKnight because apparently, he was being a BIGOT by doing exactly what he tried to warn Jenna off. (He trashed her for publicly exposed the writers which not the whole point of what she tried to explain, while he himself PUBLICLY called her toxic and entitled) 5. The media saw the chat in Twitter and made news of it without putting some crucial details in their headlines about which producer was doing the attacking. Like, DeKnight's name mysteriously disappeared and resulted in even further misunderstanding. 6. Jenna Ortega and the writers of Wednesday didn't even comment and respond to anything DeKnight was doing. (Jenna literally didn't reactivated her Twitter account while the writers didn't give any explanation) 7. DeKnight received MASSIVE BACKLASH after what he was saying, backtracked to explain what he meant and still got attacked because he was a hypocrite, which was true. He even apologized and noted he needed to heed his own advice (Yup. I got screenshot of this). 8. DeKnight asked Twitter to strike the whole chat. They did but it was too late. 9. The media and some Hollywood bigots still kept bringing up this whole fiasco over and over again by saying Jenna got lots of HATE because of what she said... which isn't true because her Instagram got more followers (I checked yesterday) and unsurprisingly even more people are defending her. (Yes, Disparu is one of them and I'm very grateful for this) 10. Some media tried to make new headlines to stop this whole fiasco getting even more out of hand. Edit: I'm adding more detailed info to this.
@@RanMouri82 Yup. But more like some of the media are starting to write something else about Jenna before anyone got any idea of digging this whole chaos further. Like, someone just written an article of actors and actresses who got away with changing script etc... which I literally found yesterday...
A great summary, thanks. I love it when someone presents proper background research instead of jumping on the bandwagon (which 90% of social media is).
Just the mere fact that Jenna Ortega is a young woman with serious talent as an actress, actually cares about her work, standing up for artistic integrity, and seems to truly understand and love the character of Wednesday Addams has me hopeful that Jenna directs and writes her own movies
Goes to show that a responsible actor that knows her charactet can contribute a lot more than some random writer that thought he was better than the show itself.
Man, my neck hurts from all the nodding at everything you explained here. Definitely wish more people were like Jenna, committed to the essence of the project they endeavor into, for the sake of the source material and for the good of the people that will consume the end result. Imagine if more creatives and artists did as Jenna did for Wednesday (the show, and the character)...the world of entertainment would 'actually' thrive.
Just the fact that she improvised the iconic Wednesday dance and they cut it out after half a second shows how much she cares about the lore and how little the producers and writers know of the character.
Anyone remember the times when the director, scrip writers and actors would all be a single team with a common goal and constructive criticism was taken as an opportunity to make the product even better, rather than being considered "disruptive" and "entitled"?
Yes, but I think things have become more narcissistic. That doesn't mean that there are more people with actual NPD, but that narcissistic/sociopathic coping mechanisms are encouraged especially in the work field. It sucks.
Writers have lost any support i had for them because of their attacks on Jenna - completely unprofessional and inexcusable - last I checked Wednesday is strong success, second only to Stranger Things as most watched series of all time on Netflix
If there were more actors like Jenna and Henry, I probably start watching American entertainment again and not watch alot of foreign dramas, like Korean, thai, Filipino, Taiwanese and Chinese dramas!
It seems the worst part about the show is precisely what Jenna was trying to discourage (people treating her like an immaculate queen despite her treatment of them).
Nah, far from it. The show is shit, her lines are still disgusting at times (due to writers' personalities). She only made it halfway bearable. Oh and the blonde girl was cuter ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
@@Halo_Legend I think she took garbage writing and made it work much better for the character. Also, if more actors like her and Cavil stood up for the source material, we would get better shows and movies.
Oh my god! The audacity of caring about the fundamental being of a character… seriously though, actors and actresses like Henry Cavill and Jenna Ortega that actually care about the characters they are portraying enough to speak up when something isn’t in line with their motivations… those are the actors I would want to be working on my project!
The Adams family was insufferable. I watched till archery scene (I think it was episode two). I told my wife that if Wednesday hits the bullseye, I'm out. It is comforting to know that the Actrise wasn't the problem.
I hope they don’t destroy her character, like they did to the Witcher. She deserves respect for telling the truth out loud. And I hope that Netflix has lost enough money by now that the show goes in the right direction. The media deserves a good whooping.
Jenna Ortega feels destined to be a major player behind the scenes. If you’ve listened to her in any in-depth article, you already know the rich creative soil she grew up in. She’s incredibly literate (yes, this was once a compliment) and steeped in great storytelling. She may be young, but she’s earned trust from writers, producers and directors. “I am Iron Man.” Don’t forget, RDJ didn’t merely ad-lib that final line and cement his iconic portrayal of Tony Stark. He CHANGED THE SCRIPT from “I am not Iron Man” to the mic drop line because he knew the character from the inside out. Lastly, I’m a professional writer with tv, film and publishing credits. F#%k hacks like the ones Disparu is rightfully grilling here.
I just watched the show and didn't like it. I felt like I was just watching a goth, fantasy version of Riverdale. But one positive thing I can say is that Ortega did a fantastic job as Wednesday Addams, and learning about her changes just makes me respect her even more
Thanks for speaking in her defense.. Too many producers and directors drag actors thru the mud because they can.. she’s talented and seems pretty down to earth. Don’t let these geezers stop her shine!
Mad respect to a 20 year old for standing up to this kind off arrogant writers who think they can just alter an already existing story/character that is known and beloved and change the living crap out of it, cause they feel like they can do better. You want to write creative and not be limited, come up with something new, develop your own world and characters. So mad respect to Jenna Ortega for sticking to what we all expect of the character she played. She did a marvelous job at it. She understands while being an artist, in this roles u have a job to do and that is deliver for the audience with in a curtain expectations.
I’m so glad to know that Jenna actually knows all of the things they tried to do that was wrong and what they still did wrong with Wednesday’s character. 👏👏👏
Telling people above you, something is wrong or trying to change things for the better is absolutely the right thing to do, however making it public afterwards while not being forced or provoked is a bit unprofessional i think.
Jenna definitely, Henry Cavill unfortunately I don’t think he will be the future, he should be the biggest star in Hollywood today, but he’s barely working unfortunately.
DeKnight is NOT a producer on Wednesday. He has nothing to do with the show. The actual producers seem to have no issues with Ortega The producer is Carmen Pepelea The executive producers are Alfred Gough Miles Millar Tim Burton (yes he is also a producer) Steve Stark Andrew Mittman Gail Berman Kayla Alpert Jonathan Glickman Tommy Harper Kevin Lafferty Kevin Miserocchi
Isn't Tim Burton the producer? I don't see DeKnight connected with Wednesday anywhere.
She speaks thruth to power.

It’s called accountability and people have no idea what that is anymore.

(I've got a sweet spot for sea monsters)
I actually thought i would hate this show, i didn't grow up with Addams family and the school angle really isn't my scene, but people kept pestering to watch it and in the end I really liked Wednesday. It's nice to know that her actor is a big part of that.
I got the same feeling except I gave up on that show, it's just too much different from what I expect of an Addams family story.
I found a big difference between the first Two episodes and the rest of the season. To me it started as a Hokey reboot and the Wednesday character was just too over the top. Then something changed in Episode three and I binge watched the rest of the show. And I'm NOT the Demo for this show!

They are lucky to have her.
they don't want that, their material, money they want it the way it is plus insert their political views.
She's 20... Not even 21 yet in a couple of months from now
If modern society has taught us anything, it's that the few who fail upward accelerate the process exponentially: incompetent people understand intuitively that they occupy a position they haven't earned and don't deserve, so their first instinct is to surround themselves with people even MORE incompetent than they are.
@@brianmurphy6480 That's correct, this is all just chaff thrown up to try to confuse as the bombing runs get closer to hitting the target.
They wanted Velma, and got an actual Adams.
Guess they picked the wrong 'puppet'
I hope Jenna gains the power to be a Producer in future projects, she's an incredible talent.
@The Rue Morgue Excellent news, thank you 👍😆
eww no. shes already playd out
and her face... 😬
It's clear she's a fan of the franchise and the character and I'm glad she fought back to try to maintain a good product for the audience.
We need more actors who care about source material.
Hollywood hated people who can think for themselves
Henry Cavil...say no more.
@@ianmerkin6488Henry Cavill didn’t come out on top like Jenna Ortega did. Sad.
We’ll get there, but the consumers of these products have to speak up to those who make it and the actors have to make their wish list projects known so those looking for actors know who are passionate about the genre/story
Tim Burton, and Jenna Ortega is a combination I never knew I wanted until I watched Wednesday
Tim Burton also loves her in the role, unsurprisingly
Jenna Ortega & Mike Judge
I can imagine Tim Burton wanting to write for her in the future in much the same way he did for Johnny Depp.
Sometimes you find the perfect match and you don't want to waste that opportunity.
Same. I wasn't interested in it, but so many different people recommended it to me, that a month ago I finally watched it. And it was fun! And entertaining. And unexpected. Jenna is great in it. Can't wait for season 2!
Remember the good old times where movie or series producers often asked for the actors' opinions/suggestions and collaborated with them to produce masterpieces? I miss that.
She has a future as a director. She can write scripts. She can head a studio.
I hope she does become a successful director in the future.
Maybe, I guess. Let’s not get carried away.
Not gonna happen. Hollywoke will make sure that she won't get the chance to do so.
@@pandaman1331 But with YOUR help, we can make that happen.
With just a bit of your support, we can make directors respectable and help create better movies by proxy.
@@charlieflight6124 How so?
Good to see that SOME actors actually KNOW their character and are willing to stand up to writers..... That's awesome.
It's not just the writers, also the producers. I think NETFLIX should start getting rid of these writers and producers so the ones that stay know they have to try harder.
I'm just going to tell you how it is first of all didn't get rid of Jenny put someone else and her row
The same kind of thing has ruined the Witcher and kicked Henry out. All so wrong.
Wow, I never thought I’d develop this much respect for an indie actor like Jenna Ortega
Yep. She was already really likable and this whole thing makes me think she's going to end up with a long career behind the camera, even when she retires from being in front of it. She actually wants to make something that represents what it's supposed to be, instead of being a skin hack writers can wear to produce their 'own stories.'
I know right?
She's super cute and apparently she's super nice and a lot of fun to be around.
Indie? Shes in fucking Scream movies ffs.
@@bmagada before she rose to fame
She saved her career! Her performance was amazing, I'm glad she pushed back where necessary.
@@sarcasm-83 My thoughts exactly. That would have been way better
This. How Morticia acted and them being aghast at the thought of murder twisted my gut.
I had to read your post to be reminded of the "clearing Gomez's name" plot, even as I was struggling to remember just that one as one of the prime examples of ways that the Wednesday series seemed to forget what the Addams are all about. The plot itself was fine...but _not for the Addamses._
"My, aren't you a lady killer?" compliments somebody to Gomez.
Did she learn the actual SWORD fighting, or are you talking about the thing she did in the show - modern fencing?
The actual Wednesday producers haven't said anything negative about Ortega that I've found. DeKnight has nothing to do with wednesday.
@@Halo_Legend Depends if she learned HEMA or Olympic fencing.
@@sleepless9957 You just paraphrased my point.
I hope Jenna is able to overcome her insecurity because she clearly has a lot of talent and should be proud of herself
Do you think Cavill got ejected from dc as they were worried he would fight them about the character like he did with witcher
Sad but Cavill and Ortega are the exceptions, not the rule, most actors don't have the talent or skills to write or develop their characters.
Don’t forget about Keanu Reeves

@@Ozhull No, I said "Brainwashed politicized".
She's political but she's not doesn't have any entitlement about it.

Wow this makes me love Jenna Ortega even more. Because I liked Wednesday but I had some problems with it because at times it was to much of a teen drama and not dark enough and not what I expected. But hearing it would be even more of a teenage drama and even less dark without Jenna Ortega because honestly it should be a lot darker
the whole love triangle ruined it. They should've listened to her.
Well it crystal clear, if jenna Ortega did put her foot down. The Wednesday show was going to be a CW Teen Drama that was there to subvert and deconstruct the character Wednesday. All they know how to write is woke valley girls from LA and NYC.

Why did you put a space in front of your exclamation points?
Crazy to think that this young woman is the strong, talented, independent, POC that the media supposedly craved and wanted....... And they're throwing her under the bus......

It’s funny to me how many people in this comment section think Jenna Ortega is based
In case you are curious. This was what exactly happening:
(This happened exactly during Scream VI premiere)
4. Her fans and most people in Twitter turned and attacked DeKnight because apparently, he was being a BIGOT by doing exactly what he tried to warn Jenna off. (He trashed her for publicly exposed the writers which not the whole point of what she tried to explain, while he himself PUBLICLY called her toxic and entitled)
(Jenna literally didn't reactivated her Twitter account while the writers didn't give any explanation)
(Yes, Disparu is one of them and I'm very grateful for this)
10. Some media tried to make new headlines to stop this whole fiasco getting even more out of hand.

Just the fact that she improvised the iconic Wednesday dance and they cut it out after half a second shows how much she cares about the lore and how little the producers and writers know of the character.

Telling people above you, something is wrong or trying to change things for the better is absolutely the right thing to do, however making it public afterwards while not being forced or provoked is a bit unprofessional i think.
If the actor/actress loves the character enough to keep true to them opposing the director and/or the producer, this is a blessing.
Respect to Jenna for standing up to her character. Hopefully Her and Henry will be the pioneers for the next generation of entertainment.
Jenna definitely, Henry Cavill unfortunately I don’t think he will be the future, he should be the biggest star in Hollywood today, but he’s barely working unfortunately.
DeKnight is NOT a producer on Wednesday. He has nothing to do with the show. The actual producers seem to have no issues with Ortega
The producer is Carmen Pepelea
The executive producers are
Alfred Gough
Miles Millar
Tim Burton (yes he is also a producer)
Steve Stark
Andrew Mittman
Gail Berman
Kayla Alpert
Jonathan Glickman
Tommy Harper
Kevin Lafferty
Kevin Miserocchi
This is what happens when you hire talented people.
seeing a woman be honest and open and practicing a little common sense got me on the verge of tears.
what a fcked up world we live in
