She was the best part of Last Man Standing as the youngest daughter Eve. So she can definitely play the tomboyish, stoic, and aggressive character type that Abby is, great choice

The biceps guns are low key an integral part of her character. It creates a parallel between her and ellie and shows her strength in a different way. It’s also more representation for women with that body type. (Please don’t say it’s “WOKE” because people like Abby do exist). Thank you.
i agree, it would be a shame if she didn’t put on only a little bit of muscle, only as you’re right the muscles are a key part to her character and something would just feel wrong if she didn’t have muscle. however she will still be great if the directors choose for her to remain the same build. doubt it will change much :)

I wanted Kaitlyn as Ellie but it wasn’t meant to be & Bella nailed Ellie in season 1, Kaitlyn will nail Abby as well, I will say her being jacked is the least important aspect of the role, I’ve heard all the counterpoints as to why she should be huge but I think them hiring an average or below average size actress says they know they went overboard in the game, look at Ellie she’s a petite sized girl but when she gives you that death stare you better run & her size has nothing to do with it.
I think they nailed this pick because Dever has so much range and can play the character so many in the game hated for reasons not mentioned and make people care about her pain. Can’t wait.

I know they wouldn’t want a dude playing Abby, but the designers/animators made Abby appear quite masculine. I’m sure Kaitlyn Dever will do a good job, she is a professional actor after all, but if you look up Shannon Berry, she is MUCH more fitting - she’s bigger, stronger, and has a certain “look”.
I can't help it be disappointed they didn't go with Shannon Barry. She just has the right look and acting experience in her previous roles to be Abby I don't know why they didn't go with her. Regardless good luck to the whole cast, I love the second game.

Gotta be honest, I'm fuckin pumped for season 2 after seeing this! Also, I hope she doesn't put on a bunch of muscle for this. I hope she just brings what she's already got to the table. A slightly different spin on Abby wouldn't be a bad thing. Abby is pretty sassy so as long as she's got the attitude down then I think we're in for a treat.
Horrible casting IMO. Kaitlyn is 5 foot 1 or (1.51m) and petite. There is no way that they couldn't find another actress that was 5 foot 8 (1.72m) to 6 foot (1.82m) that could show the physical dominance that Abby processes. Edit: Bella Ramsey is 5 foot 1 as well. There is supposed to be a 3 - 4 inch height difference between Ellie and Abby. Shake my head.
Does she love the game? She didn't say a single thing that was specific to The Last of Us; it was all very generic stuff. Her lack of focus and avoiding the camera could also be a sign of lying. It's entirely possible she was told to say she liked the game to please fans.

Kaitlyn Dever is a much more experienced actor when it comes to subtle emotions and trauma, which will contrast beautifully with Bella's rendition of Ellie having already shown us her innate tendencies toward violence as her first response in most situations, and her being generally disagreeable to most people as a whole. In other words, in this version of the last of us, because the writers have the advantage of knowing the part 2 arch, they've taken into account where this is all headed for ellie, and what this means for her as a character, expanding on the murderous teen angst that will fuel her actions down the line, giving the audience a much clearer picture of who she become right from the outset, and losing a little of her videogame counterparts charm and innocence in the process. This is going to enable a more even playing field for the viewer to decide which character they ultimately identify with more from episode to episode, and giving Dever's portrayal of abby a chance to be seen as an equal and opposite to Ellie, rather than her just being hated on for killing joel, which I don't think they realised was going to be as intense a reaction as they got from the fans after the second game launched!
I don't know what's more shocking; the fact that this girl almost played as Ellie for a planned Last of Us movie (which I'm glad they didn't move forward to that route, but would also would loved it that Sam Raimi was going to work on it at first) or the fact that she played as Cassie Drake from the ending of Uncharted 4 who will later on to play as Abby in the Last of Us season 2. 😅
I never understood the hatred for Abby. She had a righteous vendetta against Joel and Elly, who aside from his love for Elly Tess, and his brother, wasn't really a nice person. At the end of TLOU 2 everyone loses. Frankly, I liked Abby and rooted for an ending of reconciliation.
She says she is a huge fan of storyline so I think she will absolutely put on the mass for it! She sees the commentary about it and would know it's a big part of the character's identity. Muscle CAN be attained and lost as needed, actors do it all the time. Look at what Christain Bail did for some his roles.
I genuinely scared for her, if 'fans' were willing to send a toddler death threats just because they were the child of her original actor, imagine what they'll do to her.
Nobody's talking about how's Bella going to be a badass killing machine like Ellie is in TLOU 2 yet, who takes on everyone and everything and she's skinny as a rake due to not eating or sleeping properly. Kaitlyn has been linked to Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann for years. She was a character in Uncharted 4. She followed ND on Instagram or Twitter or whatever before season 1 of the show came out and had people speculating she was going to be Ellie. So it makes sense she's made it to the show. I suspect she'll either just play the younger Abby with her Dad (if you know, you know), and that would TOTALLY work as Kaitly has always looked way, way, way younger than she is. Hell, Bella turned 18 during the filming and she's supposed to be like 14. In the second game Ellie's closer to her 20s or early 20s and taller but Bella isn't tall. So Kaitlyn could be young Abby and then they use someone else for older Abby, I mean there's talks of the 2nd game being split over 2 seasons for HBO given the first one's sheer utter success. Or she'll bulk up a bit with roids and personal celeb trainers before filming starts this year, OR they'll bulk her up a bit and make her more grounded and take away the "woke" backlash Abby got from the game and make Abby a more "normal looking" woman who still has military training etc.
Guys, it’s TV Television and film production has so many little roundabout ways of doing thing and camera tricks and prosthetics So what she’s the same height as Bella Ramsay and so what she looks petite right now Celebrities go through more intensive training than bodybuilders all the time, Henry cavil spent most of the filming for the justice league movie only being allowed water every 4 days because when your dehydrated the skin is thinner and rests on muscles tighter, creating a more toned look As long as she has the biceps, the braid, and the height it’s fine She could get good enough biceps with enough training, and we don’t even know when she actually STARTED training for this, just because they only now revealed the role doesn’t mean she wasn’t already cast beforehand And on top of that, fake heels exist. You can get special made boots that look like regular shoes/shoes with a under 2 inch heel, that in reality have a over 5 inch boost And because it’s a platform not a skinny heel that the actor is standing on, while the strain is still there it isn’t as bad, this easy fix would mean Abby would wear boots that go above the ankle the whole time and there is absolutely zero problem with that And if she doesn’t wear anything to boost her height So what The size of Abby is one of her many intimidating factors but it’s not like she’s HUGE, she’s likely only around 5,6-7 because the female brutes in game TOWER over her, she’s a brawler not a brute
She’s a great actress and looks like Abby in the face, the only nitpick I have is that Abby’s tall, muscular structure is a big part of her character. It’s the visualization of her obsession with Joel (Her muscles grow slowly as she trains for years, they’re at their peak when she kills Joel, Santa Barbara they fade away). It also would be a little odd to see her fight Ellie (Bella Ramsey) given they are basically the same height, and I just don’t think I could see her taking on Joel, Tommy, Jessie, etc. That being said, there’s a good chance this next season might be all that happened between the first and the second game, as well as encompassing the second game’s flashbacks. Then they save the revenge for season 3. This would make Kaitlyn Dever’s small frame understandable because Abby would have just started out training. She can hit the gym after they finish filming and will be bulked up by the time season 3 comes around, which would be present time in Part II.
I would have liked to see more accurate characters in the TV show. Seems like almost every character is drastically different than the game. Kaitlyn Dever would have been the perfect Ellie but Abby? I don't see it. Abby is way more manly and those arms cmon. It's essential for Abby's character to have the arms in the TV show imo. I like the show and the actors worked out pretty good so im not disappointed but i would like to see some accuracy to the characters. Awesome video thanks
From Kaitlyn’s casting I seem to think season 2 will be all about Abby. A younger Abby before Part 1. Minimal Ellie and Joel. Season 3 will be Abby/Ellie/Joel. Just my thoughts.
I think you're right, I really do believe Neil is trying as hard as he can to get people to like Abby. From part 2 itself now to this casting. I think that's a good guess. I personally would be all for it weirdly as I really didn't like Bella as Ellie, the rest were fine but that was just such a miscast I can't believe they did that. This would also fit with statements like they see this going 5 seasons possibly more.
Rhonda Rousey would be better as you know WWE is scripted so her acting skills are good as well, plus it wouldn't be no need for a stunt double seeing she can really go in the ring and can take hella bumps plus she looks like Abby too what a lost for Naughty Dog
Im actually glad it worked out this way as ive wanted Kaitlyn dever in a last of us adaptation since I saw her portrayal of Loretta McCready in Justified season 2. I obviously had my heart set on her playing Ellie, and was hugely disappointed finding out it wasn't to be. But the narrative of the second game with her as Abby! Holy Shit!! However they do it I have a lot of confidence that they will be able to pull it off so that the second Season does well too! I hope that they give Joel more screen time like they did with Sarah in the first episode of Last Of Us HBO Season 1.

In the original game she isn't challenged at all as she seeks vengeance - she just turns up and gets it, then she's hunted by Ellie, etc. You could argue her previous actions are challenged late on in the game's story, but that's not what this statement implies at all. I just find the wording very interesting. Those who want the show to mirror the game might be very disappointed with season 2 I think...
I feel like they made the right decision in casting her as Abby. I think she'll do a great job with the main protagonist's role in The Last Of Us Season 2!

Gotta be honest, I'm fuckin pumped for season 2 after seeing this! Also, I hope she doesn't put on a bunch of muscle for this. I hope she just brings what she's already got to the table. A slightly different spin on Abby wouldn't be a bad thing. Abby is pretty sassy so as long as she's got the attitude down then I think we're in for a treat.
Horrible casting IMO. Kaitlyn is 5 foot 1 or (1.51m) and petite. There is no way that they couldn't find another actress that was 5 foot 8 (1.72m) to 6 foot (1.82m) that could show the physical dominance that Abby processes.
Edit: Bella Ramsey is 5 foot 1 as well. There is supposed to be a 3 - 4 inch height difference between Ellie and Abby. Shake my head.
Does she love the game? She didn't say a single thing that was specific to The Last of Us; it was all very generic stuff. Her lack of focus and avoiding the camera could also be a sign of lying. It's entirely possible she was told to say she liked the game to please fans.

Kaitlyn Dever is a much more experienced actor when it comes to subtle emotions and trauma, which will contrast beautifully with Bella's rendition of Ellie having already shown us her innate tendencies toward violence as her first response in most situations, and her being generally disagreeable to most people as a whole. In other words, in this version of the last of us, because the writers have the advantage of knowing the part 2 arch, they've taken into account where this is all headed for ellie, and what this means for her as a character, expanding on the murderous teen angst that will fuel her actions down the line, giving the audience a much clearer picture of who she become right from the outset, and losing a little of her videogame counterparts charm and innocence in the process. This is going to enable a more even playing field for the viewer to decide which character they ultimately identify with more from episode to episode, and giving Dever's portrayal of abby a chance to be seen as an equal and opposite to Ellie, rather than her just being hated on for killing joel, which I don't think they realised was going to be as intense a reaction as they got from the fans after the second game launched!
I don't know what's more shocking; the fact that this girl almost played as Ellie for a planned Last of Us movie (which I'm glad they didn't move forward to that route, but would also would loved it that Sam Raimi was going to work on it at first) or the fact that she played as Cassie Drake from the ending of Uncharted 4 who will later on to play as Abby in the Last of Us season 2. 😅

I never understood the hatred for Abby. She had a righteous vendetta against Joel and Elly, who aside from his love for Elly Tess, and his brother, wasn't really a nice person. At the end of TLOU 2 everyone loses. Frankly, I liked Abby and rooted for an ending of reconciliation.
She caused all her friends to die and Ellie's too Joel never went after someone unless they harmed Ellie

Nobody's talking about how's Bella going to be a badass killing machine like Ellie is in TLOU 2 yet, who takes on everyone and everything and she's skinny as a rake due to not eating or sleeping properly.
Kaitlyn has been linked to Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann for years. She was a character in Uncharted 4. She followed ND on Instagram or Twitter or whatever before season 1 of the show came out and had people speculating she was going to be Ellie. So it makes sense she's made it to the show. I suspect she'll either just play the younger Abby with her Dad (if you know, you know), and that would TOTALLY work as Kaitly has always looked way, way, way younger than she is. Hell, Bella turned 18 during the filming and she's supposed to be like 14. In the second game Ellie's closer to her 20s or early 20s and taller but Bella isn't tall. So Kaitlyn could be young Abby and then they use someone else for older Abby, I mean there's talks of the 2nd game being split over 2 seasons for HBO given the first one's sheer utter success.
Or she'll bulk up a bit with roids and personal celeb trainers before filming starts this year, OR they'll bulk her up a bit and make her more grounded and take away the "woke" backlash Abby got from the game and make Abby a more "normal looking" woman who still has military training etc.

Television and film production has so many little roundabout ways of doing thing and camera tricks and prosthetics
So what she’s the same height as Bella Ramsay and so what she looks petite right now
Celebrities go through more intensive training than bodybuilders all the time, Henry cavil spent most of the filming for the justice league movie only being allowed water every 4 days because when your dehydrated the skin is thinner and rests on muscles tighter, creating a more toned look
As long as she has the biceps, the braid, and the height it’s fine
She could get good enough biceps with enough training, and we don’t even know when she actually STARTED training for this, just because they only now revealed the role doesn’t mean she wasn’t already cast beforehand
And on top of that, fake heels exist. You can get special made boots that look like regular shoes/shoes with a under 2 inch heel, that in reality have a over 5 inch boost
And because it’s a platform not a skinny heel that the actor is standing on, while the strain is still there it isn’t as bad, this easy fix would mean Abby would wear boots that go above the ankle the whole time and there is absolutely zero problem with that
And if she doesn’t wear anything to boost her height

The size of Abby is one of her many intimidating factors but it’s not like she’s HUGE, she’s likely only around 5,6-7 because the female brutes in game TOWER over her, she’s a brawler not a brute

She’s a great actress and looks like Abby in the face, the only nitpick I have is that Abby’s tall, muscular structure is a big part of her character. It’s the visualization of her obsession with Joel (Her muscles grow slowly as she trains for years, they’re at their peak when she kills Joel, Santa Barbara they fade away). It also would be a little odd to see her fight Ellie (Bella Ramsey) given they are basically the same height, and I just don’t think I could see her taking on Joel, Tommy, Jessie, etc. That being said, there’s a good chance this next season might be all that happened between the first and the second game, as well as encompassing the second game’s flashbacks. Then they save the revenge for season 3. This would make Kaitlyn Dever’s small frame understandable because Abby would have just started out training. She can hit the gym after they finish filming and will be bulked up by the time season 3 comes around, which would be present time in Part II.

I would have liked to see more accurate characters in the TV show. Seems like almost every character is drastically different than the game. Kaitlyn Dever would have been the perfect Ellie but Abby? I don't see it. Abby is way more manly and those arms cmon. It's essential for Abby's character to have the arms in the TV show imo. I personally would be all for it weirdly as I really didn't like Bella as Ellie, the rest were fine but that was just such a miscast I can't believe they did that.

Im actually glad it worked out this way as ive wanted Kaitlyn dever in a last of us adaptation since I saw her portrayal of Loretta McCready in Justified season 2. I obviously had my heart set on her playing Ellie, and was hugely disappointed finding out it wasn't to be. But the narrative of the second game with her as Abby! Holy Shit!! Im officially Abby > Ellie. You did it Neil!! You made me retroactively agree with your obvious favouritism for joel's killer! 😂

I can't wait to see what HBO does with The Last Of Us in Season 2 and how they'll adapt The Last Of Us Part 2 to tv! However they do it I have a lot of confidence that they will be able to pull it off so that the second Season does well too! I hope that they give Joel more screen time like they did with Sarah in the first episode of Last Of Us HBO Season 1.

the last of us 2 is gonna do so much better as a show.. i feel the gaming community missed that the game was focusing mainly on negative emotions and because they felt like shit after playing it they decided it was a bad story.
"...whose black-and-white view of the world is challenged as she seeks vengeance for those she loved.” Straight off the bat, this description of Abby is very telling by HBO. In the original game she isn't challenged at all as she seeks vengeance - she just turns up and gets it, then she's hunted by Ellie, etc. You could argue her previous actions are challenged late on in the game's story, but that's not what this statement implies at all.
I just find the wording very interesting. Those who want the show to mirror the game might be very disappointed with season 2 I think...
