- Dive into our latest short video where we conduct a handover inspection of a newly built Australian home, revealing a shocking array of non-compliance issues that every homeowner fears. This property, fresh off construction, is a stark example of what can go wrong when oversight fails and workmanship falters.
🏠 A Laundry List of Faults: From improperly installed windows and unauthorised rain heads to non-compliant cladding and shoddy silicon work, the defects are both extensive and varied. Incorrect measurements add to the property's woes, making it clear that significant repairs and reinstallations are urgently needed.
💧 Leaking Into Disaster: Inside the home, the situation grows even grimmer. We uncover leaks and compromised membranes-problems that should never plague a brand-new residence. These issues are not isolated to just one property; neighboring homes within the same estate share similar fates, indicating a broader issue with the construction practices employed here.
🛠️ Calling Out Poor Craftsmanship: Throughout the video, we do more than just list defects-we discuss the implications of such poor workmanship and the lack of proper construction oversight. The state of this home is not just disappointing; it's a glaring indictment of the shortcuts taken in its construction.
🗣️ A Must-Watch for Potential Homebuyers: If you're considering buying a newly built home, this video is essential viewing. It serves as a critical reminder of the importance of thorough inspections and understanding what your rights are as a buyer.

Apologies about the format of the video, it was meant for TikTok only but we decided to share it here ❤😊
Again? Don't make a habit of it, it's non compliant for RUclips ya know 😉😂
Please do a wide-screen video of the estate, needn't be the entire estate necessarily because it's just gonna be the same horrible leaky shoddy unsafe mistakes repeated over and over.
Be good if you can take your time explaining the simple stuff, from reading comments I kinda get that people don't comprehend what is just cosmetic quality breaches and how much is actually making the house unsafe, like a leaky bathroom floor, means one day you might fall through the floor, or a slight leak in a window that doesn't let water inside the room but just inside the wall, means one day your whole wall falls out. A tiny bit of moisture absorbed by a wooden roof truss from bad roofing; means toxic levels of mould pathogens in your families lungs... etc.
Great work as always.
sir, can i book a inspection?
a non-compliant video for youtube...... yeah nah I think its allowed
People need to start going to jail for this
They need to start forfeiting their assets to the people they screw over. Jail prevents it occurring in the future. Asset forfeiture to the affected parties at least lets them fund the fixing of the issue
Inspectors that provide occupancy certificates with defective works are the ones who need to be revoked or put in jail. Builders then need to be deregistered.
Just force them to live in this lmao

The Bee inspector
He inspect, he object, but more importantly, bee protect.
Full video 😮
👍👍👍
How to contact you please?
Looks like 3rd world hill, built to third world standards. Would love to know what the owners payed for this piece of paradise in shantytown hill 🙄
That bee fainted at the site of the non-compliant items.
The bee was non compliant too
Fuck I love your channel. As an Australian tradesman who actually has pride in my work and does an amazing job. It is outright embarrassing the level of quality that most people produce. Disgusting. They should all be charged
Boy listen please…this man has started to shake up the building industry. He needs weight behind him. We need to rally together share the video tell anyone you know to subscribe as the bigger he gets especially on RUclips the more they will
Take notice. Your a beast brother

The TikTok Inspector for Australian of the Year!
I have personally emailed the relevant Minister in Victoria with details of the shithole build in Preston. The local MP replied to me, horrified, he knew the place as the build backs onto the park he takes his daughter to, but the Minister, nada, nothing, zilch not even an acknowledgement of the email.
Honestly. When one of these disasters occurs in your local area you should email both the local member and the Minister for the state building authority with your concerns and links to the videos. These terrible builds are not only a drain on our energy and environmental resources they are going to be derelict in 20 years or less and increase pressure on our housing problems. They are also a huge breach of trust with the home owners and what is expected to be a tightly regulated industry. The average bloke does not have the skills, tools or know how to inspect this to they rely on the VBA licensed inspectors to certify the work.
@@stuartlaird7341 The VBA is a brotherhood fuck all will done trust me.
the VBA need a royal commission investigation
Royal commission won’t do shit as we’ve seen with robodebt recently. Royal commission means absolutely nothing anymore
Royal commissions are just another way to get taxpayers to pay public servants a few years wages at this point.
@@L0-C01 And the royal commission into the NDIS. Only thing they've done is cut budgets, which is what the previous govt was doing anyway.
Won’t happen because it will uncover the mess they themselves created
Haha not just VBA the whole building industry around Australia but if they do that how more homes will be built to aliviate the housing crisis? Nah just keep building mate haha omg is so bad.
Would love to see more updates on the result of your inspections & how the owners handle the builders & what happens to the builders, name & shame these bastards
Uncovering dodgy construction AND saving bees? Give this man an Order of Australia immediately
Doing god's work mate. Your inspections are what Australians need to see to truly grasp how dodgy our builders and regulators truly are. Keep it up man

Mate you need a new level. That one is so wonky it is bouncing on that level floor.
😜😜
Yes please, we would love a full-length RUclips video on that whole estate.
I have learnt so much from watching your vids, and i now realise that even though the 100yr old house my late mother left me does have its problems, its no where near as issue-ridden as some of those fancy new builds you are inspecting, thankfully.
Yeah it makes me want to buy an old house tbh, at least I can renovate a house that’s well built, but with a new house you’d need to renovate anyways because of all the defects, let alone some structural defects.
Its horrible, im having to take our builder to VCAT, after watching your videos about no water stop, our 2nd floor bathroom is leaking water into the building elements, and the builder is refusing to return our calls, keep up the good work!
Silicone? Looks more like off brand Liquid Nails😂
Do your best. Silicon the rest!!
Except the builder seemed to have run out of silicon on this job 😂
Yep I vote for a full video...looking like could be too much for one video🤨...keep up the great work keeping the dodgy bastards accountable 👍👍👍👍👍
Of course we want a full video. I feel so bad for all these home owners. You’re putting your life savings and future into this, and this is what builders are doing. It’s disgusting that the VBA and NSW equivalent let this stuff slide. Heads should roll.
Full length video would be great mate, what a fricken shemozzle!
Can you do an episode and mention how some AS are far to minimal and simply ridicules. Also, mention a few suggested inclusions.
Would be awesome 🙌
Do a full video of the estate and share the different types of non compliant only. Love your work.
Silicon business must be lucrative 😂
Dear Sir it is great what you do could you please show what happens after your inspections does anything actually get repaired? Thanks
When governments issue builder's licences, annual renewals should be based on the QUALITY of work performed! For example, a builder performs building work and it is checked and found to be perfect, so their builder's licence fee for the year is say $500. Another builder's work is checked and found to not comply with 3 Australian Standards, so their annual renewal should cost $5,000, together with ORDERS to FIX ALL MISTAKES! MAKE THEM PAY FROM THEIR HIP POCKET, OR THIS GARBAGE WILL NEVER CHANGE! BETTER YET, AFTER ONE FAILED ANNUAL REVIEW, PERMANENTLY REVOKE THEIR LICENCE, or IMPOSE A MASSIVE ANNUAL LICENCE FEE!!!
The risk must reflect somewhere. Consumers everywhere are gunna pay for this via their taxes eventually.
@@davidp7241 I would rather the builders be HELD TO ACCOUNT. The customer can always NEGOTIATE PRICE AND USE SOMEONE ELSE! I am sure that most consumers would be happy to pay a small premium to a builder for a TOP QUALITY JOB! ALWAYS DO YOUR RESEARCH, READ ALL GOOGLE REVIEWS, AND SEEK OUT WORD OF MOUTH!
@@davidp7241 They are already paying with the shoddy builds... may as well have it done right to begin with and pay the tax.
Respect for helping the bee
Scary! I love your videos but am afraid to click on them sometimes cos you know the dodgy work can make you angry. Btw: A man who saves 1 bee, saves the world! Great stuff there.
Get the Inspector there, then walk over the entire job.

I have watched quite a few of your videos now. I am building my first investment property. It is 3473km away as the crow flies. Your videos kind of terrify me because I can't get onsite to keep an eye on the build. I think I have done it the right way though. I took on a reputable advisor who did the research to find me the best place to build and then put me in touch with a land developer, and builder. I haven't just left it at that though I have made phone calls and asked about my builder's reputation and it has set my mind at ease. The company has a good name. My advisor also has a building inspector to do the inspections and hopefully that will cover my arse. Spending years as a landscaper, often on new build sites I know some of the dodgy shit that can go on. At the risk of sounding like a boomer, I will say that the quality of workers really does seem to be going to the dogs. You can't kick apprentices up the arse anymore and clowns need to have their phones shoved up there as well.
seriously foam
folks render is rubbish
Europeans don't use it and uk
most expansive and cheapest built homes
Absolutely disgusting work, I hope the owners get payback from these cowboys soon.
With the insane amount of money paid for those homes, so close to each other, without any real back or front yards, that will just lead to domestic violence between neighbours. Greedy f*cking councils having as many homes as they can squeeze in on as small amount of land possible equals more rates for them.
Some people don't want a big back yard and don't like gardening. There are about 100,000 terrace houses in the inner suburbs of Melbourne, typically on 5 x 31 metre (16 by 100 feet) blocks and they are just as sought after as houses on huge blocks.
Smart cities
It's really not an issue, I've lived in houses like that and apartments etc and never had an issue with neighbours any more so than when I lived rurally or in the suburbs.
There is usually more community green spaces around, much better for lots of people.
Looks good from a far and you are blind, look closer isn't looking good, name and shame?
Needs to be a royal commission into the building industry and building authority in every state and get rid of these cowboy builders and officials
And what happens after the Royal Commission? A bunch of recommendations and laws that may or may not be implemented and that definitely don't get followed.
No. There needs to be repercussions and jail time for the people that allow this theft to occur.
@@DanIsNotHome 100% agree and no more changing companies names and starting again
Endeavour Hills---Cowboy Hills 😂
I was in Australia 23 years ago. I was impressed by the thriving car industry and the tradie sector (high wages, high quality) back then still strongly dominated by old-Aussie culture.
Then came the boats
So what happens to the builders ?
why do you people in australia build homes with such rubbish design and materials. polystyrene walls. tin roofs. ridiculously complex drainage. wetroom showers. steel and timber substructures. etc etc.
Cheap skate builders
Not all Australian homes are like this, many actually exceed set requirements to a certain extent, especially with many highly conscious owner-builders, these types of issues we are seeing mainly seem to be with the newer multi-estate type 'Mc Mansions' and town houses etc.
Compared to Western Europe, I agree, but compared to the US, the Aussie construction methods and materials are “not too bad” 😉.
These are some of the worst examples. There is stuff made to standard and beyond.
That said...
Regulation inspection has been privatized. That means that it is the Builder paying the Inspector, not the Morgtager, not the Council and not the Home Owner, but the Builder. This is inherently corrosive.
The VBA, Victorian Building Authority, has basically been directed to reduce friction and facilitate buildings being completed. We do after all have a housing crisis.
In NSW the relevant authority has overseen the building of Mascot Towers, which was evacuated less then 6 months after people started moving in because someone screwed up the concrete and concrete pre-forms. It is now condemned.
Over 30 years ago we gutted our Tech Schools, because they were seen as 2nd class to High Schools and we tried to push everyone into University, which was heavily subsidized at the time. 20 years ago we started fiddling with the TAFE sector (Technical and Further Education) and now there are not enough skilled trades around so we have special visa classes to import supposedly skilled labor. Some of them are, but some of are definitely not.
In general dodgy builders have learned that there is no enforcement and there is no blowback on doing shitty work.
The drainage has to do with large amounts of rainfall in a small period of time.
cmon m8s, just do it right.
I don’t see the appeal of these types of houses is sprawled out suburbs, seems like theres nothing within walking distance and you gotta drive your car to do everything. The housing situation in Aus is so unappealing and degrading that I’m trying to move overseas to Europe to escape to affordable and properly built suburban towns/cities
Don't come to the UK as it's exactly the same here. My Danish mate is looking to buy a house in a rural area and after 2 years of looking at £1m+ houses has yet to find one he says would not be condemned as unfit for human habitation in Denmark.
How about the Master Builders Assoc. of Victoria ?
Wrong tree to bark up. They are the builders industry body and have no f__ks to give about home owners or shitty tradies or even shitty builders. They are there to lobby for builders, so, in a way, they are probably a major contributor to shitty inspections and zero enforcement.
Need a full video of the estate. Beyond a joke
You, sir, are a LEGEND 👌🫡💯 love your work🙌
While i may love you, I can feel much hatred out there for you, you are a problem for the bodges but a blessing for the buyers :)
GO GO GO, we need you !
The people signing off on the jobs need to be fixed.
Terrific video, really shows just how little the contractors value the unsuspecting public, same over here in New Zealand, shortcuts and shemozzle everywhere, I am now viewing all the work done for me with wider opened eyes
Keep up this terrific work
Opposite Endevour Hills Shopping centre, I know the United there!
How come you don't name and shame these builders ?
Legal reasons for sure. If you publicly defame someone they can take you to civil court. Whilst, these charges would likely be dropped later due to Site Inspection having the proof (one of the defences is substantial proof) it still means that Site Inspections would need to hire a lawyer, and go through the process. Best to not do it at all.
@@KeenJT Exactly, he'd spend half his money on lawyers and 70% of his time doing legal paperwork, we'd never get a video to watch lol.
its easy to see, all the corners cut and jobs rushed to save money. As the AC/DC song goes "dirty deeds done dirt cheap".
Another great video and a very accurate inspection for teh client. Love that flexible camera. Great respect for your work. I used Protimeter moisture meters for years but would highly recommend the Tramex CMEX5 Moisture Meter.
I find it insane that dam busters can patent a rain head that is essentially a flashing.
There should be no need for a performance solution
To make a rain head compliant is the ugliest thing you can bolt not the side of your home
what's your opinion on master builder's qld trying to lobby for looser regulations to "reduce building costs"....
Dodgy af.
That is how we got here in Vic and how Mascot Towers happened in NSW.
Private Certifiers.
forget the non compliant stuff. i was sickened by the web on the bee.
Don't even ask if we want a full video... haha you know we do!!
You show many non compliant homes . How many actually pass ??
I can see older houses going up in value. As new houses are a joke
What is usually the outcome of your inspections? Does a higher authority ever agree with you and force builders to fix everything to code or just a long pointless legal battle with no resolution for owner?
Likely the latter. The VBA probably doesn't even know what they're looking at half the time. Corruption may be a possibility but I think it's probably a combination of indifference and incompetence that's causing this.
With how many people are flooding into this country maybe we could find enough people that give a shit to be put in the right places? lmao
Why are Australian houses built like this 😂
corruption? Lots of politicians in bed with construction companies will do it.
So I would love to see if they came back to fix these shamozzles
There are no consequences for these cowboys. Until the VBA, and/or the VIC state govt change the laws/procedures that need to be followed, and provide a budget for enforcement to be conducted - nothing will change.
The laws and processes are theoretically there. They are choosing, as directed by the Minister, to facilitate the speedy building of homes.
Great work mate!
The government officials don't do a bloody thing, just collect a paycheck for incompetence.
As a retired carpenter I've seen standards slipping year after year.
Where's the pride in your work.
Thank goodness for this guy holding them to account.
The bee is more compliant than the workmanship
I feel like I need to move to Australia and specialize in horribly designed modern house repair, there is going to be endless work in the next couple decades
Especially with water getting in everywhere and destroying parts of each home.
Doing gods work by saving that bee
its sad that shoddy work ruins the nice homes like this, water leaks in those homes will be a night mare for someone,
Almost 100% of all box gutters, sumps and rain heads shown on this channel are “non compliant”! Is that a systemic issue especially in Australia? I don’t see any other country making the same demands upon sumps, overflows and rain heads. Are these building regulations just unrealistic and overblown or do most of these non-compliant box gutters actually cause problems for the home owners?
Where I live we have plenty of tropical rain storms and flooding, but virtually none of the gutters use Australian style rain heads or sumps. Most gutters are an external part of a traditional roof overhang. Flat roof internal box gutters are also becoming popular. The gutters have a huge capacity being quite deep and wide. The drainage is usually 3 to 4 separate downspouts for each 12 meters of gutter with relatively big downpipes of 7.5 to 10 cm diameter. The sumps are large 80 liter concrete catch basins underground connected to a 6+ inch main rain drainage system. The huge number of downpipes (about 8 for a family home) provide redundancy without separate overflows. It’s rare that I see a gutter overflowing.
I am no expert but I think it's mostly an issue with these new builds, mostly town houses or multi storey homes on small blocks.
Also remember he's only showing the bad ones.
We do get some torrential downpours at times and the gutters have to be capable of dealing with that.
Traditionally we have sloped tiled roofs with eave gutters for most places and they shed water just fine, but flatter roofs get higher surges off heavy rain and box gutters in particular tend to overflow back into the house in the ceiling, rather than just the eaves.
Also, this stuff here is the shittest of the shit.
Unbelievable dodgey work
Mate, YouR a legend! The Government should create a whole new portfolio, And have you run it
Full video please!!

Faster than a dodgy builder...more powerful than a high performance box gutter...able to leap 3 story townhouses in a single bound... it's the site inspector!😅
TicTok Inspection school for dodgy builders - busted... lol...
- Construction trades get schooled right here....
You’re legend ❤
Builders using cheap imported labour! No sympathy for any tradie/ builders being exposed for doing dodgy work & ripping the innocent homeowners off!
If one home is deemed non-compliant and the builder has built many homes in an estate, then would it be safe to say the rest would be non-compliant too?
I mean, we aren't just talking about a letterbox not meeting standards. My heart breaks for the home owners. Could you imagine a new car being non-compliant? These aren't "allegations", the proof of dodgy work is there in colour... Why cant these mongrels be named and shamed...?
This is why I gave up doing construction work.. being a Bricklayer, I use to build the houses like it was meant to be for myself… but when they started to rush me and started to under quote me.. I gave up… these cowboys are all getting peanuts that’s why the quality is shocking… while the builder make a huge profit from it
The Australian housing industry. Powered by render, silicon and negative gearing.
When the Victorian government build thier 80,000 new homes, this will be the standard they get and accept. Jerone weimar will love this..
It needs to back to councils doing the checks. Blocking the building to be advanced to the next stages of the build. And the blocks the stages of payments being done. That will stop the builder using the cowboys and keep the dodgy builders getting away with it. State Government and federal government needs to step in hard on this. As they are promoting to get more builds happening to overcome housing crisis. No accountability for this terrible structure Australia wide. Absolute disgrace what the industry has turned into. Just saying…
I co-own a construction/remodeling company. I see videos like this and go damn my work is fucking phenomenal
Housing built by the CFMEU and passed by the CFMEU
Inspector gadget, your doing a great job highlighting the short comings of untrained workers ruining the building industry.
You should lobby the breakfast cereal companies to stop putting trade licences into boxes of cereal.
Once again another cheap microwave box all lightweight materials and yet want top dollar for these rice boxes. Junk.
Peter Costello looking for a new job. I’m sure he could give the industry a great shove in the right direction for sorting out the Cowboys and dodgy so called builders.
Yes and I have to compete with price to do the correct job and people think I’m expensive but unfortunately I put more time in and better materials and make less money for the effort. Go figure.
This is what happens with no supervision and no correctly trained trades. As theres no regulation (apparently they’ve all gone out to lunch) builds like this will continue & this just the ones properly inspected, which is in the vast minority.
Feedback - Considering all the equipment you have, mobile phone size video on a TV looks like shiet
Whole project would’ve been built by two dollar shelf company now shut down and gone.
What I want to know is what the hell is being done about it??!!! This residential building industry can't keep going like this.
the VBA doesn't do anything it needs to go back to local council inspectors at every stage no more private inspections where the company can do dodgy inspections because they are paid too and then dissolve the company when they have complaints and then rebirth
Again name the builders involved and the council inspector, should sue the whole lot of them.
you'd think the B in VBA stands for blindness, what a shemozzle
