It would be neat to see mechanical nightmares on aircraft. You might have to do some cold calling to find mechanics willing to take and submit video. There are what are referred to MRO (can stand for Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul, or Major Repair and Overhaul) facilities. You want the latter. You want to talk to people who do C and D checks at a second rate facility that works on cargo planes that operate in third world countries because this is where you're going to see some serious nightmares. I'm retired from maintenance due to an injury and my retraining for a different aviation career may or may not be in the maintenance field. I'm considering several BS options in the Aerospace field. There are serious issues in the airline industry today, especially in the US. Boeing just keeps racking up fails and airlines are cutting costs. I think the general public should be made aware of the result of skimping on maintenance and how widespread the problem is. Aviation safety is cyclical. Crashes lead to new safety regulations, which make the industry safer but then, after a couple decades without many serious accidents, complacency sets in. I won't fly commercial in the US currently. Hundreds or even thousands of people are going to have to die before commercial aviation is safe again. Unfortunately, the 737MAX crashes happened outside the US so they don't help to generate traction due to most Americans thinking there isn't a world outside the US or that the planes must have crashed because of something 'they' did wrong 'over there'. It is nice that everyone survived the door plug blowout but it would have been far better in the long run if it had been a fatal crash. They stretched the 737MAX too much and more of them are going to crash because it is an inherently unstable aircraft. It is inevitable.
No 2 yes changed the oil every 3000 miles, just forgot to say that he drained it out, filtered it through a piece of cloth to get the big chunks out, and put it back in, and then topped up with free oil he got from the local fast food place.
@@skuula I have a large collection of antique cars and in exchange for the mexicans mowing my grass, they take the used motor oil. Everything is changed at 4k and is always 15/40 diesel and he runs it in his tractors and farm truck
I can do some stuff on my own with working on my car, but sometimes I just don't have the strength or the tools, so when my mechanic was replacing the CV joint, he saw my serpentine belt setup. Lovely thing with Honda Civics, one belt does it all, so if your ac compressor is toast, your belt will melt and shred, I couldn't afford a compressor, so I got the belt for the version of my car that has no ac, and bypassed the compressor. Gave my mechanic a laugh when he saw it 😂
I got lucky with my F150. When the compressor went bad, I managed to find a compressor bypass pulley that allowed me to use the same belt until I could get a new compressor. My old Civic has two belts. One for the power steering and the other for AC/Alt/crankshaft.

When I was rally driving back in the second half of the 1960s, we would always finish a stage of less than 10 miles on a flat tyre then literally throw the wheel/tyre away. Fortunately, tyres today are far less prone to puncture and the metal wheels are less likely to buckle. Of course with low profile tyres you can't fix a puncture by fitting an inner tube. Call that progress cos I don't If you fit a sump guard, you will need an oil cooler to cope with the reduced cooling. Jack, the Japan Alps Brit.

Southern cars tend to not rust out quite so bad (unless exposed to sea-salt?) -southern cars the big thing is the get anything that crawls, stings or bites OUT of there before shoving your hand up into the chassis...

Immediately following the sting my lip was swollen past my nose. I started feeling high from the sting. That was a interesting day 😆

Some buddies should be allowed to work on cars. Some people shouldn't try and fix electrical problems. Several of those cars just need to be taken to the scrap yard. Can't blame the mechanic for refusing to work on that fully stuffed car. Given the condition of the tires, rotors, and frames, several of those cars are getting ready to cause a major accident.
That VW steering wheel is nuts. Years back when giving a friend who was only used to smaller cars with tires that have no sidewalls, he was visibly concerned just from seeing my wheel move a little without seeing much if any impact on our direction due to having large flexible sidewalls. I wonder what his face would have looked like had he been in that deathtrap.
These videos make me feel two things simultaneously. One is that I am super savvy when it comes to my car - I can check, top up my oil, know when it needs to be changed, can check my tire pressures, engine coolant, and generally have a good idea when I need an expert. The other is that ... there is something wrong with my car and I don't realise it. Because how could people knowingly drive these cars?! If my car had one of these issues... I'd know it, right?
I've been a mechanic and an MoT tester here in the uk ut I never came across brake rotors detatched from the hub. I'm glad I live in a country where you can't get away with being a total 💩

My opinion is that all prospective drivers should do a basic exam on vehicle maintanance before they can get their drivers licence. Included must be how to change a flat tire within 10 minutes. I have seen lots folks next to road and they have no clue where to start the process of changing a tire. Not to mention the safety aspect etc etc..
This is the kind of stuff that makes me mad. These cars are on the damn road with everyone else and that’s perfectly ok to do but if you start a business and have a dot number then it has to be inspected every year and it one little thing is wrong it must be fixed or it can’t be on the road. Federal government says "it’s for the public’s safety" well these morons are threatening my public safety as well. If big trucks need yearly inspections to be on the road so should EVERYONE ELSE.
Here in Germany we have a mandatory inspection for all private vehicles every two years. Despite all the mockery thrown at those organisations, most people are glad we have that. It keeps the ticking time bombs off the streets, since they have the autority to fix the broken stuff and return within a few weeks if your car has some issues, or even straight revoke the registration on the spot if the thing is unsafe to drive. In such a case, you're not allowed to move the vehicle by itself anymore on the streets, so you got to get a tow truck to get it to the scrapyard, a workshop or back to your private property.

After I starting a truck hauling business. Commercial trucks need annual inspections done before they can legally be on the road. The truck is mechanically sound and has maintenance done well before it was due and is well taken care of. Except the truck is double framed. It wasn’t washed out regularly so the frame rails is rusted and won’t pass its inspection because the frame has been welded due to cracks. That’s not ok and dot told me that it isn’t safe for the road. The frame is beyond solid it’s just been welded due to the rust pushing the frame rails apart. But someone can have a sedan, neglect maintenance never change tires or brakes and driving on tires with the steel cords exposed and brakes almost non existent and that’s fine. The frame can be rusted through and held together with spray foam and that’s not sacrificing public safety. But my truck with a welded frame repair is unsafe. I just think that if big trucks need to have federal inspections done before they are allowed on the road then all automobiles including passenger cars, trucks, and private vehicles along side dot trucks need inspections before they are allowed on the road.

Never ceases to amaze me how people will destroy a wheel costing several hundred dollars to avoid paying $70 for a tow. 13:13 That's-a some-a good pasta! There should be at least one spray foam nightmare in every video. Although the incompetently applied RTV transmission pan gasket was a close second. Pro tip - you apply the RTV to both mating surfaces after thoroughly de-greasing. You loosely put the pan on and tighten the bolts just enough for the two RTV beads to come together and extrude ever so slightly around the edges. Then you let it set for 24 hours and then torque the bolts. Most people just put the RTV on and torque it down and then it leaks. Gaskets only work if they compress some when you torque it down. RTV will shrink as it sets because all the acetic acid evaporates out. 22:36 As a mechanic, I wouldn't want that crap on my boots. I'd just be spreading germs everywhere. A pile of fresh puke is probably cleaner. 22:42 I guess I have a different idea of what constitutes a clunk. You get a clunk when you have a U joint that needs replacing. The scariest thing I saw was an 8 foot crack in the central portion of the wing spar on a 747. How it hadn't already come apart in flight was a mystery to all, including the engineer who designed the repair for it. A lot of the other scary stuff would have caused serious issues in flight but wouldn't likely result in the loss of the aircraft. But if your wing spar breaks, the whole plane is coming apart. Would look like the TWA flight 800 crash because it will rupture the main fuel tank in the process and almost certainly become a fireball.

You're correct there. Where I'm at, we don't have inspections or emissions testing. It's actually different between counties within each state.

There should be at least one spray foam nightmare in every video. Although the incompetently applied RTV transmission pan gasket was a close second. Pro tip - you apply the RTV to both mating surfaces after thoroughly de-greasing. You loosely put the pan on and tighten the bolts just enough for the two RTV beads to come together and extrude ever so slightly around the edges. Then you let it set for 24 hours and then torque the bolts. Most people just put the RTV on and torque it down and then it leaks. Gaskets only work if they compress some when you torque it down. RTV will shrink as it sets because all the acetic acid evaporates out.

You get a clunk when a small rock is kicked up and strikes the floorpan. This here would sound like the whole vehicle is about to fall apart, which it is. This almost turned into a Keystone Kops short, with the vehicle spontaneously disassembling as it goes down the road.

Too bad YT wasn't a thing back when I did MRO on 30+ year old cargo planes that operated in third world countries a couple decades ago. I've seen some things that were likely to cause catastrophic failure, literally on the very next long haul flight. The scariest thing I saw was an 8 foot crack in the central portion of the wing spar on a 747. How it hadn't already come apart in flight was a mystery to all, including the engineer who designed the repair for it. A lot of the other scary stuff would have caused serious issues in flight but wouldn't likely result in the loss of the aircraft. But if your wing spar breaks, the whole plane is coming apart. Would look like the TWA flight 800 crash because it will rupture the main fuel tank in the process and almost certainly become a fireball.
