They are from Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, where the fighting started in 2014. Her name is Tatiana, nobody expects that, lol. She is mostly self taught, with influences including Otep and Randy Blythe (Lamb of God) for the harsh, and Gwen Stefani. Some post production here with layers, but that is all her.
Glad you mentioned the musicianship, this live session is a redo of an older song in order to showcase Vlad on drums, who had joined not long before this. He is classically trained on piano, and self taught on drums. He , Roman (guitar) and Eugene (bass) are all awesome. The guys write the music , and Tati writes most of the lyrics. None of the original members remain. Tati and Roman joined a year after they were first formed. According to their website, they were formed in 2009, but consider 2010 as their year of formation, (wiki says '08 and '09). Considered metalcore, they will switch styles within songs often. Jazz, as you see here , and reggae also.
When the current fighting started , the guys were stuck in Kiev, but were eventually allowed to leave, to tour and be ambassadors for the Ukraine.
The song is about the astrological sign, so the key word here is 'duality'. Tati and Eugene are Pisces, she wrote most of the lyrics with Eugene helping to finish them.
The usual next step is to see her do it live, with either Perennial live at Wacken 2019, or Pit of Consciousness live in Kiev. Other suggestions: Teacher Teacher, Vortex, vocal one take video for Judgement (And Punishment). And Homeback, which is about the fighting in their homeland in 2014.

Really wonderful reaction! It is telling and very uncommon that you noticed the band immediately. Understandably, Tatiana steals the show but the thing that makes Jinjer so special is their balance. While each of them are world class at what they do, there is no ego, and no over performing. They work as a whole to create a complete song. This video is actually the showcase for the drummer Vlad as he had just joined and is a classically trained pianist. Jinjer considers themselves progressive metalcore and groove metal and the lounge melodies and grooves are a huge part of their music. I would recommend you look at "Perennial" live at Wacken, "I Speak Astronomy", "Vortex", and "Home Back", a song with deep personal meaning as it addresses the war in their home country of Ukraine. Can't wait to see more from you!

Jinjer is my personal best find for ages when it comes to music. I saw this video in 2017 and since that no other band comes even close. The vocalist is Tatiana and she has done several collaborations with other bands - including a sound track album for the game Metal Hellsinger. Your intro music (guitar) sounds very much like a song which could be straight from that album. The song featuring Tatiana is called Burial at Night. Edit: I'm an old old metalhead as well.

You have just witnessed a band that will be forever acknowledged as one of the best in metal. Tatiana is one of the best vocalists and lyricists I've ever experienced, but aside from her the rest of the band are major talents in their own rights. Eugene showing us just how cool a forward placed 5 string bass can be, Roman holding it all down with some solid (but not super flashy) guitar work and Vlad beating those drums like they owe him money. The amazing thing, Vlad is the only one with a formal music education and that is as a pianist. LOVE these guys!

I'm a musician myself and I'm around your age and I'm not actually a metal dude, but..................
when I saw and heard this band for the first time over 6 years ago, I immediately realized that something incredible was happening for me!!!!!!!! I have been a music lover for 50 years and a musician for over 40 years, rock, funk, R&B, acid jazz..., but as already mentioned, Jinjer opened the way to metal for me, although Jinjer is much more than that for me "just" a metal band, Jinjer is simply great, and you'll notice that the longer you spend time with this band. Besides, they are all humble and lovely people. What's sad is that they're from Ukraine and you know what's been happening there for almost 2 years, which is why they had to flee to another area in Ukraine in 2014..................
I've been following Jinjer reactions on RUclips for over 6 years, and you're one of the best for me, cause I notice how you get involved with music + also take your time.......

I enjoyed your reaction & subscribed. I like to learn from the reactions people with different musical backgrounds have to Jinjer's music because I always learn something new.
I've been a metalhead for about 40 years, & Jinjer is the 1st growling band I've enjoyed. They single-handedly re-invigorated my interest in music after about 20 years of near-dormancy. They are all incredibly talented.
They are a progressive groove-metal band from Ukraine. The lineup has been constant since 2016, when Vlad replaced Dmytro Kim on the drums. This video was meant to showcase Vlad, who had recently joined...but vocalist Tatiana kind of steals the show for most people. Dmytro Kim left because he didn't want to sustain Jinjer's demanding touring schedule.
Eugene replaced founding bassist Oleksiy Svynar in 2011 for reasons I do not know.
Roman replaced founding lead guitarist Rostyslav Lobachov in 2010 for reasons I do not know. Founding rhythm guitarist Dmytro Oksen departed in 2015 to pursue an acting career, leaving Roman as the sole guitarist.
Tatiana replaced founding vocalist Maksym Fatullaiev in 2010 for reasons I do not know. She is an amazingly versatile, talented & skilled vocalist, a talented lyricist & melody writer & a kick-ass front woman.
Tatiana, Roman & Eugene have been the constant core of the band since 2011, & really forged Jinjer's identity together. Vlad, who is a classically trained pianist & very talented multi-instrumentalist, contributes a lot of musical composition as well as his very nuanced, jazz-influenced drumming style, & has quickly become an integral part of the band, contributing to their progressive tendencies. These 4 are magical together.
Perennial Live at Wacken Open Air 2019 is usually the recommended 2nd reaction, but that's more for people skeptical about whether Tati's harsh vocals are real or people who are newbies to metal with harsh vocals. You evidently fit neither category, so you could go any number of different directions. You'll get tons of recommendations, & they'll all be great songs.

This past summer, I was able to see Jinjer on a very, very hot July evening in Lubbock, Texas. The venue was a small beer garden with a capacity, I am guessing, of around 400. My reward for waiting in line in the 100+ heat was being on the rail in front of the small stage. Jinjer had 3 Texas bands open for them, all with harsh vocalists. None of them were anywhere close to the level of Tatiana. Her range with harsh vocals is unbelievable (Fernanda Lira is not far behind her). Tatiana got so low that I actually felt the rumble in my gut. Pisces was not on the 14 song setlist, but she did perform my 2 favorite Jinjer songs - Teacher, Teacher! and Pit of Consciousness. I have been listening to rock/metal since 1970 (way before metal was even called metal) and I have been going to concerts and festivals since 1975. Jinjer put on the best show I saw in 2023, and one of the best shows I have ever seen. In my opinion, Tatiana is the best all around female metal vocalist ever and arguably the best current metal vocalist, male or female. I feel very fortunate that I got to see them with only a gap of 10 feet or so between me and the stage. It was a special evening.

That is amazing! The wait, the suffering was well worth it! This whole band is underappreciated I think. As is usually the fate of highly talented musicians. I'd love to hear about the bands you got to see going back to the 70's! My first big concert was Iron Maiden Powerslave tour in '85. Queensryche opened for them and I had no idea who they were. Became a lifelong fan, since! Can't wait for more Jinjer! Thank you, my friend. 🤘❤️🤘

@@BemusingBill I was in high school from 1976 to 1979 and I remember seeing Styx, Heart, Van Halen, Boston and Yes. There were probably a few more. In the summer of 1980 I went to the famous heatwave Texxas Jam at the Cotton Bowl. The lineup on that very hot day (summer outdoor concerts in Texas are always miserable) were Eagles, Cheap Trick, Foreigner, April Wine, Sammy Hagar and a few others, including Christopher Cross who was a local guy but out of place. The Eagles were late coming onstage and didn't seem into it at all when they did perform. They sounded great but just no energy (the complete opposite of Sammy Hagar that day). The Eagles would break up a month later. Cheap Trick is the band I have seen most in my life - Texxas Jam was the first of three.
2024 will be great for this old guy. I already have tickets for Journey/Toto, Iron Maiden (both shows in Texas) and the 3rd and 4th days of ProgPower in Atlanta. ProgPower will include four of my favorite bands - Soen, Amorphis, Winger and the US debut of Lovebites. I will probably see a few smaller venue shows. Haken and Insomnium will be in DFW within the next few months and I am thinking about seeing both of them.

Awesome sauce, Bill! I saw them in NYC about a year ago ... I was leaning on the stage in the front row for the entire set .... absolutely stunning! I hate being the "do this one next" guy but there's a Jinjer gateway trilogy that will blow your mind. Do "Perennial" live at Wacken next. Then "Teacher Teacher" official music vid. Both are the best thing ever. Many thanks for your fab content 🤣

Your Jinjer reaction beckoned me me here, as it popped up on my recommendeds. 5 years ago, I reacted much the same as you did here, the first time I heard this...fyi...I still react like a giddy fanboy every time I listen to them, and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
My personal suggestion for the next one you should do is Pit of Consciousness, Live in Kiev.
I like that one, because it really showcases her harsh vocal range. I've never heard another vocalist that has her range, Tatiana is the abosolute best vocalist in their genre of music, imo.
I would die to see Tatiana and Floor Jansen, (from Nightwish), do a colaberation.

Welcome to the famous Jinjer rabbit hole 🤘🏼😃 I can only warmly recommend this band to you. I'm a little younger than you, in my early 50s and have been working in the concerts, festivals and events business for almost 30 years and, apart from Elvis Presley, I think I've seen pretty much every historically known act and artist live on stage as a guest / child - Teenager or then professionally mainly as a 20 year old until today! Fun fact, thanks to my much older sister, I was able to experience my very first Metallica concert as a 10 year old in Zurich, their first tour in Europe, or worldwide with Kill em all...and even better, the boys attended the concert after the concert Locked in the backstage by the organizer, a friend of mine today or for years because they rioted and had to clean everything up first before they were let out of the backstage and into their little bus 😄🤘🏼! I saw and heard Jinjer live for the first time in 2012 on a stage in Bulgaria, and I was completely blown away by how talented all the musicians in the formation were above average and knew that they would get even better! And Tatjana, for me the absolute unicorn in the female front woman vocals of the heavy metal scene... She is even better live on stage and 🤯🤯🤯! And if you knew what their current drummer, Vladislav, actually is by profession, and that they mix all genres with metal, not just jazz... reggae, funk, blues, hip hop rap...!!! Here's a nice sequence of songs since 2012, sorted by year...live concerts and music videos!
    Greetings from 🇨🇭 Switzerland 🤘🏼🙏🏼🙃

I didn't take into account all collabrations between the band Jinjer and Tatjana with other artists & bands with live performances or music videos!
As an example, Hello Death as a single from April 2022...
The order compiled here is not 100% arranged like the album playlist, because sometimes there are no music videos, or they are not good enough quality for me to list here! I started adding to the list, step by step a few years ago with the available songs, qualities and release dates. I'll probably add to the list next year, i.e. more likely at the end / autumn of 2024 when Jinjer starts in the studio with the planned new album!

I may not be as seasoned as you, but I started with Maiden before thrash and groovecore, and I have been into it all ever since. Jinjer is something that, like you said, is refreshing. They are proggy, but metalcore, and the talent is off the charts! Tatiana is a once in a lifetime talent, but to be surrounded with the guys she has accompanying her is what makes it all work, they have a special mesh. They are a live band first, so they pride themselves on their stage performances. This is a great rabbit hole, enjoy 🤘

Great reaction bro. Instant sub. Fellow old metalhead here. Same upbringing, also big into prog--i love Rush, Yes, King's X, Kansas, Genesis, etc. I'm a pro bassist/singer for 45 years. I had the same reaction to Jinjer as you. Love at first listen. Instant fan. I knew right away when I discovered then last year that I had to see them live. And when I got that opportunity just two weeks later, it cemented them as my new favorite band.
Hardly anyone mentions the bass guitar in this song. Understandable, as the shock and awe from Tatiana is pretty overwhelming. I saw you noticing Eugene's bass playing though. As you can tell, Tatiana's incredible unicorn vocal ability is the hook that catches your ear, but a musician immediately notices the musicianship. Here Eugene uses left- and right-hand tapping exclusively for the verse and refrain. It's subtle, it's technical, but it's not overstated or showy, it fits perfectly with the beautiful arpeggiated guitar chords to create a mood. It's super fun to play--try it!
That's typical of Jinjer--the instrumental parts are extremely challenging and fun to play. The time signature is all over the place, but it's so skillfully done that you don't even realize all the meters they flow through. They play "across the bar" all the time, beginning and ending riffs and phrases independent of the beat count. There's plenty of opportunity to bang your head--but they'll also catch you off guard at times, just when you think you've locked into a rhythm. More so than most heavy bands, they incorporate dynamic shifts into lighter moods. No two songs are very similar. They often avoid traditional verse/chorus/verse structure. There are no guitar solos, and I don't feel like I'm missing them.
You'll get a lot of great recommendations from the awesome Jinjer Army. Here's another: Do a RUclips search for "Jinjer playthrough" and check out everything that comes up. You might wanna react to them--not that many do. Or not. But they're amazing. Each song on guitar, bass, drums showcases top-tier playing. Roman will surprise and amaze you with his beautiful phrasing and chord selection, his sick riffs, and his right hand wizardry. Eugene's bass playing is varied, technical, groovy, heavy, and always fits the song. Vlad's drumming is rather revolutionary for a metal drummer, with his low, flat kit setup, no rack toms, dual snare, and open handed (uncrossed) ambidextrous style. He's so economical and ergonomic with his motions, he makes it look easy.
And of course Tatiana. She's my favorite singer of any genre or gender. She's not just "the best female harsh metal singer," she's the most amazing and engaging singer and performer currently residing on the planet, IMHO. Just wait till you see her stage presence bro. She's like a female Bruce Dickinson. But more fun to look at. I call her Captain Metal, cuz she's a superhero onstage, complete with mild mannered offstage alter ego (she's really shy offstage). And if you play your cards right, you can see them headlining in a small venue, and get right up against the rail for a very small price. Regardless of price, it's priceless. You won't ever be the same afterward. Jinjer is just that good. I saw Rush 36x, and Jinjer is one of very few bands in rock history that can approach that level of greatness.
Enjoy the ride! Jinjer has turned me into a reaction video hobbyist! Pisces reactions just never get old!

while discovering new music can be very unpleasant, it is still thrilling. i do that every year in a folk music festival we put up, i have no clue what the bands are about and after the festival i am like "that was some good shit" :D

Big fan here. She can go from melodic to harsh vocals in a second. They've got more songs to react on. Also great musicians in the band. JINJER are:
    Tatiana Shmayluk - vocals
    Roman Ibramkhalilov - guitars
    Eugene Abdukhanov - bass
    Vlad Ulasevich - drums

I been dreaming of this band since the mid too late 80s and early 90s ever since I heard the early death metal genres. I always pondered the questions? Why isn't there girls singing this type of harsh vocals and screaming dark vocals or grawls and back then since there all dudes singing with the harsh vocals or grawls or screaming why couldn't they do clean vocals and do like a vocal mix in there music? It seem back then it was either complete grawl harsh screaming vocals or complete clean belting melodic vocals but for some reason the two vocal styles never mixed until like early 90s with bands like sepultura who fusing alittle of the 2 genres. But then finally The Metal Universal God's answered my prayers with this band Jinjer and there beyond amazing singer Tattiana who's vocal abilities are too beyond epic sick with Greatness 😀😃🙂🙃😊😇 She switches from harsh vocal and grawl screaming too clean and melodic high belt and smooth in seconds totally mind blowing 😀😃🙂🙃😊😇😀😃🙂🙃 Too me one if not the very best band now Period 😀😃🙂🙃😊😇 And am a fan of there's 4LIFE 😀😃🙂🙃😊😇😀😃🙂🙃😊😇😀😃🙂🙃 Please react too Perimenial live by Jinjer that one will blow you way too 😀😃🙂🙃😊😇

Loved your reaction and that you noticed the musicianship. I don't play an instrument but I can admire precision and creativity. I am an older rock enthusiast myself and am happy to say there are several bands out there shredding today. If you get a chance, try Unleash the Archers - Awakening, Arch Enemy - Eagles Fly Alone and, for a bit of a change of pace but you will recognize the stylings...Wolfmother - Woman.

So glad you enjoyed it so much, recognising the pure musicianship. Its a brilliant little miracle of a four piece unit out of all places warzone Ukraine. How can that be?! Anyways, this beautiful song is just the tip of the iceberg. Succes and have lots of fun.

Tatiana is a reggare singer gone... wrong? Awesome group; try Justice & Punishment for rather more of her range. Have you heard the awesome Liliac, with the unique Melody singing? (that's her name...). Rock on, dude!

@@BemusingBill , no worries... "Liliac" is Romanian for bat, I believe; they're five siblings, did a series of awesome covers until the older kids left school, then awesome originals... any of their work is a good place to start, but I'd suggest the extended version of "Not Afraid", in which Melody starts to really use her full range...

I love seeing people react to this song for the first time! Jinjer is great. Check out Tatiana's one take performance of Judgement and Punishment.
For another good female vocalist who does harsh vocals and clean singing, try Handshake With Hell by Arch Enemy.

I remember seeing a Arch Enemy video years ago and I remember being blown away by her vocal abilities. Is her name Angela? I think I will add that to the list, now. Thank you Sharon!

    • @sharoncarlisle9453
      @sharoncarlisle9453 9 месяцев назад

@@BemusingBill Well, yes and no. Angela was their singer several years ago, so that's probably who you've heard. She does great harsh vocals, but not cleans. She stepped back from being their vocalist to manage the band, and in 2014, Alissa White-Gluz (not pronounced like glue) has been their vocalist since then. The song I suggested is with her, but it would be cool to do some of both if you like.
