I have a 2014 Chief Classic and replaced the stock air cleaner to the S&S Intake. I also replaced the stock pipes and put on True-Dual Freedom Racing Pipes, High Performance Cams with a Dyno Jet Power Commander. A completely Different Bike. Try it and you wont be disapointed...
you have to account that the Chief Classic comes stock with 100.6 pound ft. of torque & 76.33 hp. With the mods, it went to: 113.8 pound ft. of torque and went to an amazing 92.2 hp. I've been told that with a dyno I could squeeze out some additional performance. Personally..the power is a little intimidating when your pushing 60.
92 horse??? Wow that's really impressive. I have a 2016 Springfield with the 111 thunderstroke. I get a bit frustrated with the low hp. 3200 for 16 horse is actually a good price. That's a 21% increase! Wow again
The reason I have my thoughts on this is, that on the original there is a small piece of plastic in the air intake that is prepared to break loose, as its done at all workshops. The engine runs significantly better after that action, without tuning. Do you think it's the same with Indian High Flow, that tuning is unnecessary?
Am I correct to conclude that the only difference between this stage 1 air kit and a stage 3 kit is the size of the throttle body and message sent to it from electronic throttle by wire configured by dyno or dynojet calibration? Does your stage 3 kit include a 54mm throttle body or is it the same unit just calibrated for better air flow?
We only offer the AC kit for this bike. The "Stage 3" kit from Indian includes the following. Cylinders Big Bore Pistons & Rings 60mm Throttle Body High Flow Intake Manifold Stage 3 Cams Performance Valve Springs Heavy Duty Clutch Springs 116 Badge Kit 116 Big Bore Calibration High Performance Connecting Rods Just as an FYI, our AC kit will not work with the 60mm TB. Does your stage 3 kit include a 54mm throttle body or is it the same unit just calibrated for better air flow?
Is it necessary to do tuning? Or does the engine run well without new tuning, and tuning is only to bring out those last horsepower? After all, Power Commander costs money.
Hi, a couple of questions; where/how do you install the power commander? Why lift up the tank, it seems you are not going in there at all? Also, if I use a different brand slip-on or set of pipes will the preset on the Power Commander from S&S be the same?
I have a 2002 Indian Scout 96 cubic inch I need to know what happens when the intake bracket the two Bowl hole to the motor that bracket is broken does it suck air
Not sure we understand the question, please call us at +1 608-627-1958 and leave a detailed message if you do not get through and we'll get you sorted.
it´s too bad that S&S does not make a version of the Stealth (i.e. - which allows the use of the stock A/C cover) for Indians. I had them on my previous two Harleys and it was awesome. So far I´m still on the market for an air cleaner for my Roadmaster. I like the stock looks of the standard big air cleaner cover
The cover in this video will not, but we have a collection of other covers that will. Take a look here: www.sscycle.com/search/?keyword=stealth%20cover%20chrome
Wow - that was a great answer, however I was hoping for a little more info than that.. It's a Snap On - can you please provide the model number? I've looked and am unable to find that particular torque wrench.. Thank you...
muggzy62 While it is true that there are a lot of ways to scam people with dyno numbers, this is the real deal. If we were going to risk our reputation and cheat, we'd at least have come up with 10 more horsepower!
Crun Hunt You can buy it from any S&S dealer or you can buy it on line from S&S. Here's a link. www.sscycle.com/products/air-cleaner-kit-for-2014-16-indian-models-with-ss-nostalgic-script-chrome-cover/
this video leaves out some things that makes makes you disassemble and redo the install. It should mention that the wire inside the air cleaner needs to be stretched all the way inside the housing. Drop the humor and let us watch every step. Such as putting the metal sleeves inside the bushings and it doesn't mention that you put washers on the screws. Good thing it's obvious but I had to closely look at the video to see if the washers were on the screws. The spongy wrap that goes around the wire to protect it from fraying is oversized and it a real bitch to fit in the slot properly. Also the zip tie is WORTHLESS! It does not secure the breather hose at all. You need a real adjustable screw type strap fastener. On top of that none of screws are properly heat treated. Cheap Chinese screws that strip out easily. My kit was missing a washer as well. Does it look great? YES! This video gives one a false sense of security. A more detailed video would have been better. Also taking off the stock breather requires hex head, torx head, standard and metric tools. I had all the tools but it made the job much harder. If this video added some of the steps mentioned above it would have been a much easier install.
Hi,
i bought one and will install it promptly, nice video who helps.
Thanks.
that's my first S&S product, kinda proud and happy.

What is it that you like most about the changes you made? Also about how much did it all run?
about $3200+tax

I would have loved to see the removal of the Indian cleaner assembly gone over briefly. Good looking breather, any plans for the tear drop?

I tried putting this on my 2022 Springfield this evening. The stock o-rings are far too big for this. What to do?

Tuning is not needed if only the AC kit is added.

Where did you get that torque wrench?
+Richard Garza That torque wrench is a Snap On. But we got it out of the tool box in the S&S R&D shop where the video was shot.
Wow - that was a great answer, however I was hoping for a little more info than that.. It's a Snap On - can you please provide the model number? I've looked and am unable to find that particular torque wrench.. Thank you...
+Richard Garza Sorry! closer examination shows it to be Mac tool. The model number is TWDFX150IN.
Thank you Sir....
where is the dyno print outs with all the new horse power?
Here's a link to a page on our website that has the dyno chart. www.sscycle.com/indian-air
You can pick up 5 hp just warming the bike up on the dyno. That's what they do at all these rallies to sell air filters.

Is the backplate that's broken
Yes by the two bolts that screens into the heads
Yes the back plate is broken by the two screws that screw into the head
You have two bolts that hold that back played on to the head for the air right around that boat holes there are broken the aluminum plate
Yes where the bolts go through the holes to the head that plate is broken in half on both sides of thebolt hole
Good video
the tear drop air cleaner would look better.
Try getting the cover screws off to clean the filter...who puts locktite on these?...what a pain in the butt...
