I was expecting it to be super hard to spot Adam from the train and kept scanning everywhere and then he was the most obvious and easily noticeable person ever
I was hoping he would pull out a disguise instead of just taking his hat off.
Right, I was thinking the same thing lmao. He was so easy to spot.
The camera gave it away.
@@dddgaming885 or just stand behind a pillar
I was anticipating, like, narration saying "You might have missed him" and footage rewinding to add a red circle. But nope. Waldo he is not.
For some context if anyone was confused why Team Sam thought they could get away with taking a train straight through the station Adam was at, the Shinkansens run on an entirely separate and disconnected track network from normal local trains. To get to the Shinkansen tracks requires running across the entire length of the station, down a couple more hallways, through a different set of fare gates, and then down to the actual tracks. If Adam hadn't been informed ahead of time that they were on the Shinkansen, there's no chance he'd have made it to their tracks in time when their train pulled in. So while the plan didn't end up working, it's not as absurd as it might sound on face.
Taking the Shinkansen was a reasonable strategy, if you keep one team member on it and another gets off, they're guaranteed to at least get one of them to the flag. Shame they were so adamant to sticking together they didn't consider that.
@AM-we1es i agree, the strategy makes a load of sense, it's just a shame they were so hellbent on being together, really messed it up for them
@@Oliviben still is, given it looks like they'll lose round 2 for not splitting up as well (or at least start the round a flag down)
@@AM-we1esagreed. Ben and adam is smart on stopping scotty at omiya. They sure have ways around, but ben and adam are likely get an advantage and could stop scotty team every move.
@@HKG5sentsp Sam and Scotty playing checkers, Ben and Adam playing chess
I love the running gag of the whole snack zone intro playing, one of them saying like 2 words about the snack, and then the end animation immediately playing
_Especially_ when the words are "It's bad." I hope they seek out bad snacks that'll create the funniest reviews.
this easily earns them the title of best jet lag snack review over scotty and sam’s choo choo chew.
Thanks 4 kicking it in
The Snack Zone
that's what makes the snack zone better than choo choo chew
i think it's too much, i get annoyed when it plays again.
If anyone's curious, the flag in Sendai is a bottle of dashi, a type of broth commonly used in Japanese dishes. Just goes to show that vending machines in Japan sell literally everything.
The vending machine even says, in English: "Do not drink, this is a soup stock."
Better image: thejademiles.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/tokyo-dashi-vending-machine-2.jpg
I was really hoping that they would find a way to include vending machines into this season
oh duh it's dashi hahah no wonder it fishy
When I saw that it was the flag, I was very excited to see them try it unknowingly
lmao the people "stopping to help us" were probably about to tell the guy that if he's thirsty after a run, he shouldn't drink that broth
I can't tell if "Snack Zone" is better for simplicity, or "Choo Choo Chew" is better for creativity lol
Snack Zone intro and outro better for sure 😮
choo choo chew works for this hyper specific season, while snack zone works for almost any themed season
@@elle_hamm17I agree Choo Choo chew makes sense because this season is centered around trains
Snack Zone is more versatile; Choo Choo Chew requires it to be on a train specifically.
Snack zone is actually great, choo choo chew is a samified ripoff 😄
2:11 them having to make the challenges so specific because of sam is hilarious
*cough* tag across europe *cough*
@@arandomuser1019 last season also included non-human, though they maybe have to remove fish from the friend list too.
Fish are fine. Even if "fish" counted as one, there were octopi and jellyfish there which leaves no argument
Funnily enough it may be Sam who put that in. He's mentioned that he thinks as if he's in game to find any loopholes and closes them while helping to write challenges
There’s also 6:08 I could be wrong but the “You may not use any materials you are travelling with” feels like it may be in reference to Tobi knitting the tie last season
"Maybe hes eating noodles"
Cuts to Adam sitting in complete silence right next to the flag eating noodles on the ground.
Yeah we all watched the same video as you.
That's actually rice
I loved that. The editing is always so on point on this show (thanks to Ben and Adam themselves for editing).
@@Russiansismthank you every RUclips comment sounds like programming for the visually impaired
It was rice. Look closer.
Adam realizing that they are on the Shin-Osaka at 17:16 and the camera is pointing at it behind him without him knowing at first is beautiful

If this was a movie this is where the "it's right behind me, isn't it?" would go
Omg didn’t notice!! Great catch
i saw it too
aah i saw that too and when he started walking again looking for it i almost started to panic that he would just not walk back and find it in time.

Sam asking if a species is defined by the ability of two individuals to reproduce while pushing two fingers together and making sound effects is very funny.
It, that is, a species is defined by the ability of two individuals to reproduce likely is!
Members of a species can produce *fertile* offspring, Ligers exist but Lions and Tigers are obviously different species.
Just if you're curious: A species is actually defined by the ability of two individuals being able to reproduce with the offspring being fertile itself.
@@polygontower Not necessarily. Tons of separate species are able to reproduce with eachother and have fertile offspring, yet are still considered separate. Species are most generally defined by genetic isolation and having unique traits. Size, traits, color, behavior, and geographic location are the most common dividers for similar species.

I like how it went from almost nothing happening to total domination
Objectively, that's bad game design, but man does it make for exciting content.
honestly wish they played a different game. 90% of what we see is just them inside train stations and trains. I hoped it was something like new zealand where they would show the different areas of Japan. Due to the nature of the game I 100% see that they are only gonna be near shinkansen train lines due to the need to cover a lot of ground quickly. We barely saw what Sendai was. very disappointing tbh.
@@emikomina I like it better when they're on trains, much more fun then when they're just driving all the time imo.
@@emikomina I agree, the NZ season was the best one yet
I feel like if Sam and Scotty had split up when arriving at the station with adam. One leaving the train and running, while the other stays on, that would have been a baller play
I was literally thinking this too - them staying attached at the hip was a big L
They didn't even need to stay together on the train! One on either end and see which side Adam was closer to! That player sacrifices themselves right as the doors close while the other heads to the flag!
True
My thoughts exactly
I think Sam and Scotty will always be traveling together and Ben and Adam are always gonna split up. Also we are gonna have one of the teams mess up in every episode.
Anyone else notice the hat changes for Ben and Adam. Adam switched from Luigi to Waluigi and Ben switched from Mario to Wario!
yeah i was wondering about that
Patiently waiting for an episode where someone accidentally says “Bye. Love you.” over the phone.
But then the other replies with "You too."
With how often Ben gets drunk, it's bound to happen.

14:34 "I'm looking for Scotty. Scotty's very easy to spot. He's tall and ginger, like a giant beacon."
has to be one of my favorite Jet Lag quotes so far
we definitely need an out of context quote bank for all the seasons so far hahahahaha
Scotty making a risky play like that is refreshing. It makes the series progress instead of everyone playing mind games.
Could've worked too I feel. Ben was just on it.
Disagree but ok lol
@@Nooticus I would rather them do something like this instead of a whole episode of them being in a stalemate. Iam not saying those can't be fun but thats how every series has been. Everyone taking safe paths.
If they hadn't sat at the door I think it would've worked as well
I like to watch people play well. It was clearly a bad idea and I found that frustrating.
In 38:11 you can see on the lower part of the machine “don’t drink this is a vending machine of Dashi” a Japanese broth used for Miso and stuff. It’s super concentrated, drinking it is like drinking cooking oil, won’t kill you but it’s gonna be awful.
I was like that Walter White on the car all the time: NOOO SAM DON’T DRINK IT
Small little thing, both teams tried to reach in through the vending machine, then realized you have to pull the door outward, which is opposite of how they are in America.
Them opening inwards fuckin sucks too, I hate it. Half the time the drink/snack just gets stuck between the plastic flap and the bottom of the gap, and you're like "GIMME!" for 10 seconds.
2:11 I'm glad they specified non-human after what Sam pulled in Tag across Europe
thought I was the only one noticing it
Wait what did sam do? My memory fails me lol
@@dashadowgirl he came to Ben and Adam while they were waiting 45 minutes to start the chase
@@dashadowgirl he has to tag an animal out something for a task, and he saw ben and adam waiting to chase Sam bc they had to wait 45 mins, so he tagged Ben or Adam i don’t remember and that was his animal lol
This was more notable in the previous game which had a card which counted any animal except a human. Here, it's more about excluding animals you easily pass by (though this also make me wonder about spiders and centipedes and whether they're counted here as bugs or not).
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the hat switch by Ben and Adam? I love it!
I like how they went from good to evil.
I was waiting for the video to come out on RUclips to look for comments like this.
i hope the next round features toad and yoshi hats
wonder what their third round hats will be? Peach and Daisy?

Just for a note to anyone watching who is visiting Japan anytime soon. It is generally considered rude to eat on the trains, but if its mostly empty and its a small snack, most people won't care. Just be aware of those around you and clean up any mess.
Edit: Yes, it's acceptable to eat on Shinkansen and limited express trains. Also, to those saying that eating is perfectly fine in certain situations, read the above comment. Words like "generally" tend to imply something is not a strict rule. It's just a social norm and it is also impractical to eat on crowded commuter trains (this applies to more than just rush hour). Don't assume because you're a foreigner that you MUST act like a tourist who didn't do any research.
It's also against the rules here in America and would be enough to get a rider kicked off the train/bus. I've seen people get kicked off many times because they were eating. Even drinking non-water beverages is not allowed.
@@Juleyeseriously? People in Germany eat entire meals in trains 😮
@@juliagotz8614yeah as a German im really confused too
Actually, it is totally acceptable to eat on trains, especially on the longer journey one. The things that people hate are food with strong odor, eating food that makes a lot of noise (like chips) and people leaving mess behind.
I see something like this on every comment thread " The X thing Ben and Adam are doing is considered rude in japan...etc.
You'd think that everything is considered rude and disrespectful In Japan, especially for tourists.
Very disappointed we didn't get a snack zone episode with the sushi that Ben and Adam made 😞 (The Snack Zone >> Choo Choo Chew)
#snackzone
Me too. :(
may I just say that the new drawn characters are JUST ADORABLE?
Sam & Scotty: Regularly boarding the wrong trains and having to backtrack
Adam: Running around the station confused but eventually getting the right train
Ben: Breezing through the station and getting the right train first time like it's nobody's business
In the Layover (Nebula podcast) , Sam mentions that he still has no idea how they...[spoiler below]
got on the wrong train at 7:17 of the episode, as he checked that he was on the right platform at the right time. I have a solid theory on why it happened.
Basically, the station they were at, Shinagawa, is served by two different rail companies, JR and Keikyu. They were supposed to take the Keikyu Main Line to the flag, which leaves from Keikyu platform 1. Instead, they got on the JR Yamanote Line heading back to Tokyo, which leaves from JR platform 1. There were two platform 1s at the station, and they were at the wrong one.
Appreciate for the small informational bits in the comments for those who don't have access to nebula.
Yep, one of the reasons why I find the tokyo rail system one of the best and worst at the same time (as a tourist)
What a horrifying logistics nightmare. I hate that so much…
Repeatedly forgetting that multiple train companies operate in Japan with adjacent stations, and keep getting on the wrong ones, is going to be a recurring theme in this season isn't it.
They introduced a lot of countermeasures like line codes and station codes unique to each line and station, but apparently nobody in this series bothers to learn about it. As apparent in the comments complaining about the issue I guess none of you knows about it too. Well, now you know!
@@mfaizsyahmi it just unusual, considering in most cities public transport is unified, even if they are operated by different companies

Just so you know, the southern portion of Part 2 of the game takes places in the Regions of Kanto and Chubu, which are what the Pokémon Regions of Kanto and Johto are based on. Tokyo itself is basically Saffron and Celadon City and the Flag Adam is going for is on Route 29 between New Bark Town and Cherrygrove City. Looking forward to them going to Kyushu and Hokkaido (Hoenn and Sinnoh) in Part 3.
Imagine if in part 4 then end up in Unova, (New York) lol
And did you notice at 3:27 the post boxes with eevee and pikachu on top, holding letters?
And then they screwed up and went to do New York and Paris 😂😂 nice funfacts, thanks 🥰

20:08 “whatever I’m not gonna discuss it” now that’s the seasoned move of somebody who knows to save the good discussion for the nebula-exclusive podcast The Layover, a savvy move by somebody who isn’t all that experienced with Jet Lag
I do love that they are in Japan and I like the show a ton but I wish it was more like the New Zealand version where they have to see the many different beautiful or interesting things in Japan while riding trains. Mainly they are just seeing trains and cities

By the way, the flag which Sam and Scott picked up in Sendai is "Dashi", which is stock. The one they got was fish stock (you can get kelp stock, etc) which is used to add umami to a dish, most commonly a soup or hotpot.
Take or leave this feedback from a super fan who loves you all an has seen every episode!
The most memorable moments of Jet Lag for me are when you are taking the time to experience/do fun things in interesting spots. Fishing in front of Sydney, bungee jumping in Singapore and New Zealand, flying over the Grand Canyon.
While I enjoy moments of strategy talk/planning and watching the phone trackers and trying to figure out everyone’s moves, I feel like it doesn’t have the same level of charm or interest in the journey.
I would love to see more talking/experiencing the area, sights, and culture, and less running through a new area to catch a train while watching your phones.
I know that it takes a TON to plan these out and you can’t always control how it plays out. I’m still enjoying this season, but have missed the sense of adventure.
That’s my personal take, and most people might disagree and say, “more tracking!” But 🤷. You guys are seriously the best. ❤
I completely agree with you! I’ve been missing that part and it’s only episode 2!
I am also a “super fan who loves an has seen every episode” (including crime spree), and I can say I wholeheartedly disagree. I feel like the fun times are nicely dispersed throughout the show anyway, and don’t need to be more common. I really, really enjoy seeing them play logically and make good and strategic decisions though.
I really love these episodes.
Been waiting all day for this
I'm surprised that Sam and Scotty didn't split up in Shinagawa. Let's say Sam stayed on the train while Scotty got off the train as the doors were closing. Adam would have caught Scotty but Sam could have made it all the way to the flag unimpeded.

Nishio seems like an odd choice for the flag location, I'd have thought it would've been better to place them roughly the same time away by shinkansen. Although it's closer to Tokyo as the crow flies, it'd take roughly an hour longer to get there than to Sendai because of the lack of any really local shinkansen stations.

@@emikomina True, or even same game but more rural locations which would have made strategising over what trains to take more interesting, like when they were in France or Germany. In fairness, there's not much to Sendai, it's definitely one of the less interesting major cities in Japan. What I really like about this compared to the New Zealand game, is that it is way more open strategy wise. there is a quite "unlimited" number of strategies here, compared to the limited routes in New Zealand.
Yeah 100 agree. Some people dont like that we see less of the country, but i would trade that anytime if we get more close calls (which we didnt get in nz), more action and more randomness.
